I'm upgrading my friends TM2200, and installing a Wifi card and antenna. The antenna needs to go inside the laptop cover (as you probably know), but there's a foil sheet inside behind the LCD screen.
Can anyone tell me if I just stick the antenna pads onto the foil, or do I need to remove small sections of the foil and stick them to the plastic?
It's a Tyco antenna I'm fitting.
I want to replace my 1810T's Intel Wifi Link 5100 with an Intel Wifi Link 5300.
The 5100 has two antenna connectors and so the 1810T has two antennas already installed in it.
I purchased a third antenna, but I don't want to disassemble the screen to add the third antenna next to the two stock antennas.
Can I just place the third antenna here (empty area next to mini PCIe slot):
I have ordered E6400 but I have choosen Intel 5100 wifi card with two antenna port. I heard that this model isn't very good so I'm thinking about the upgrade to Intel 5300 with 3 antenna ports. I have a question about the antenna cables. How many cables are there near the wifi card in latitude with 5100? two or three? If there are only 2 cables, so the upgrade brings me no advantage.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was upgrading the graphics card and the plastic lid on my e1505, I had to disconnect the WLAN antenna connectors, and this gave me a chance to see how the antenna is connected to the card.
It got me thinking...Instead of having a wire antenna run up the side of the LCD screen, what about buying a better-quality (higher reception) "rod antenna" with a folding elbow hinge? I thought since the WLAN card is seated so close to the right side of the laptop case..
it would be possible to connect the two pigtail connectors to the WLAN card as normal then drill a small hole through the casing on the side of the laptop casing where the card is, run a few centimeters of the wires through it, and mount the antenna flush to the side of the laptop case (with either screws or maybe even super glue, if you could find a good spot where it wouldn't block any inputs/seams)...............................
I had nvidias latest driver, but it made my DV9774 fan run erratic most times. It came on for a second and off for 30 seconds, just while I was browsing the net. It was odd. It also ran full speed for a few minutes after boot, when it was clap cold.
So I went back to the older driver for now and the fan is fine.
The issue is, with nvidias latest driver that I removed there was a handy feature in the nvidia GeForce control panel in Display Properties that had big arrows on screen on my TV and sliders to resize the desktop so you can see the taskbars and start button, and nothing went off the edge.
Now with the older driver package that feature is gone....of course now when watching stuff via HDMI on my widecreen HDTV stuff goes off the edges and can't click on anything at the bottom, etc.
Is there an app or even anything from nvidia I can get to do the same thing, without installing the latest driver that caused my fan to do what it liked? If it was the driver at fault, it might have been anything in that whole latest pack I got from nvidia before, that made the fan act up.

I have an E4300 and an E6400. The E6400 came with a 5530 WWAN chip, which I would like to move into my E4300 instead. When opening the WLAN/WWAN compartment of the E4300 however there does not seem to be any wiring for the GSM card.
I then found some antenna wires leading to the Latitude ON slot. Since I really doubt I will be getting a Latitude ON chip in the near future, would I be able to run these wires to the WWAN card?
If I want to upgrade my M4400's WLAN from Dell's 1397 card to an Intel 5300 card, do I need to install an additional (3rd) antenna or isit already installed?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi just built an hd antenna and i was scanning for new channels and it was picking up some awesome channels and then i tripped over the cord and busted that little adapter that converts a normal coax cable to the mini one that plugs into the tv tuner.
anyone know the part number? I've looked everywhere online and can only find the partnumber for the antenna, not the adapter by itself. is this mini plug a standard? i even chatted with hp parts department and they were of no help.
i just took a look at the first pics in the E6410 thread and found out that it comes without any UMTS antennas...
according to dell support webcam equipped models do not support umts cards like the dell 5530
is this true or is there a way to add the antennas later on?

Drill a hole in my laptop case and install one of these connected to the first adapter that is connected directly to the card:
MMCX to N-Male, Pigtail 19" 100-Series - CA-MMNMCN19
Now the n-female from the antenna can then connect to the now adapted laptop wireless external antenna?
I am presenting all of this as a question because I think this is what I need to do but I would like to double check with some knowledgeable people first that this can work, is feasible, will bring desired results (increased range) etc.
ive just re-installed vista home premium on my acer travelmate 5320 but now the led for the wireless is reversed, so when the wifi is on the led is off and vice versa does anyone have any ideas whatsoever as i am at a loss with this one.

I bought my HP 15 a few days ago and since yesterday (after I restarted it) it can't find my network. Also, sometimes it finds all the surrounding networks, sometimes one or two, sometimes none of them, but it never shows mine.
All my other devices connect to the network just fine and also when I connect the laptop via Ethernet cable internet works normally. I tried reinstalling the adapter and driver, but nothing happens, the problem is still here.
i have na acer 3680 and it came with vista but i got rid of vista and put xp on it i have all the drivers working the only problem im having is the button on the front to turn on and off wifi will not turn on the orange light will not go on i do have wireless internet
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe model I am looking to get is the Acer Aspire One 160gb 6 celled battery, 8.9" 1gb Ram WinXP based system.
After reading a bit about people having connectivity problems (very big deal for me in a laptop), I'm scared on whether or not I should buy it. Everything else looked great but I don't really know Acer at all, so the idea that they could have shipped out defective Wifi chips and not fix it due to costs could be a reality.
However, when looking at reviews, it seems like everyone who is having these problems have 1) the LINUX version, and 2) the NON-6 celled battery version (120gb Aspire 512 ram 349$ version) and no one seems to differentiate between these (I don't know if it actually makes a difference though).
So, are there connectivity problems on the Acer Aspire One or is this an isolated problem that could happen to all notebooks?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI came home and turned it on, checked my emails... I went to the fridge took something to eat, came back and my internet was gone. No connection or whatsoever. I tried turing the wireless on and off but it doesn't help, I push the side button and it doesn't matter when I press it if it says wireless allowed or wireless off. I just detects nothing. I thought maybe it was the router so I reinstalled it but even that didn't work. My sisters laptop detects our network so no problem there...

I am using NETGEAR wifi router configured to use WPA2-PSK encryption ; All other laptop & phone are working on this setting.
4720Z is detecting the network but it is unable to connect, Even it didn't ask for 'KEY' when I tried to connect to my network.
It just says ''Windows unable to connect...."

A friend of mine has an Acer 7730 and I think his WiFi button is broke. Every time he presses it, it spouts a random set or r[]'s when the light flashes (every 5secs ish). It was suggested he had a virus and so a full reinstall was done, but now I've looked at it I think its a dodgy key! The original keyboard has been replaced as I think something was spilt on it, but of course the keys down the left are seperate.
So long story short, he cant get on the internet as pressing the key makes any text go rrrr[[[[[]]]]]] etc etc. Is there anyway to enable WiFi without this button? and can it be replaced?
I've got an Acer Aspire 5315 which is paying up merry hell. We 'backgraded' to WinXP Pro because Vista sucks donkey balls.
According to hardware scans the machine has got an Atheros AR5007EG wifi module (though on the back of the shell it says it'a an Atheros AR5BXB63 which means it's an AR5006 not 5007 - not sure what diff that would make).
The issue is this: if I connect to my home wifi router, the acer stays connected for three minutes (sometimes 3 minutes and 5 seconds), then TCPIP (event 4201) appears in the Event Viewer-> indicating that the device has connected again. It does this twice (three minutes between events), and on the third event throws an event 4202 indicating that the card has disconnected. Wireless light is flickering constantly.
I have scanned for malware, and driver scans tell me that the firmware for the Atheros card is up to date.
Has anybody else had a similar problem? My next adventure will be to remove the wifi module completely and use a USB dongle for wifi access.
I'm going to try a new AR5BXB63 driver that I just downloaded from a third source, but I don't hold out much hope, frankly.
One more thing - when the Acer cuhcks a spazz, it drags down the whole wifi network is I use our 2Wire 2701HGV-W, but doesn't if I use an old SpeedStream 4200 modem and dLink DI524-UP wifi router. How's that for odd?
