Dell :: Adding An External "rod" WiFi Antenna To An E1505?

Jan 15, 2009

I was upgrading the graphics card and the plastic lid on my e1505, I had to disconnect the WLAN antenna connectors, and this gave me a chance to see how the antenna is connected to the card.

It got me thinking...Instead of having a wire antenna run up the side of the LCD screen, what about buying a better-quality (higher reception) "rod antenna" with a folding elbow hinge? I thought since the WLAN card is seated so close to the right side of the laptop case..

it would be possible to connect the two pigtail connectors to the WLAN card as normal then drill a small hole through the casing on the side of the laptop casing where the card is, run a few centimeters of the wires through it, and mount the antenna flush to the side of the laptop case (with either screws or maybe even super glue, if you could find a good spot where it wouldn't block any inputs/seams)...............................

Dell :: Adding External Antenna To Xps M1710 Internal Wireless Card

Mar 23, 2009

This is what I am working with:

Computer rig:
Dell XPS M1710 Review (pics, specs)

Wireless card intel specs:
[url]

And I think this is the external antenna I would like to get (would love any suggestions):
5 dBi Magnetic Mount Omni Antenna - Omnidirectional Antennas for 2.4GHz - Antennas - Fleeman, Anderson & Bird, Corp.

The pdf says the wireless card antenna is, "Hirose* U.FL-R-SMT mates with cable connector U.FL-LP-066"

So basically is all I have to do is buy one of these, 4 inches U.FL Pigtail:U.FL to MMCX WiFi 2.4GHz 802.11g - eBay (item 160119011606 end time Apr-09-09 01:58:22 PDT)

Drill a hole in my laptop case and install one of these connected to the first adapter that is connected directly to the card:
MMCX to N-Male, Pigtail 19" 100-Series - CA-MMNMCN19

Now the n-female from the antenna can then connect to the now adapted laptop wireless external antenna?

I am presenting all of this as a question because I think this is what I need to do but I would like to double check with some knowledgeable people first that this can work, is feasible, will bring desired results (increased range) etc.

Acer :: Fitting A Wifi Antenna

Jun 11, 2009

I'm upgrading my friends TM2200, and installing a Wifi card and antenna. The antenna needs to go inside the laptop cover (as you probably know), but there's a foil sheet inside behind the LCD screen.

Can anyone tell me if I just stick the antenna pads onto the foil, or do I need to remove small sections of the foil and stick them to the plastic?

It's a Tyco antenna I'm fitting.

I have a question about the antenna cables. How many cables are there near the wifi card in latitude with 5100? two or three? If there are only 2 cables, so the upgrade brings me no advantage.

Acer :: 1810T Installing Intel Wifi Link 5300's Third Antenna

Apr 30, 2010

I want to replace my 1810T's Intel Wifi Link 5100 with an Intel Wifi Link 5300.

The 5100 has two antenna connectors and so the 1810T has two antennas already installed in it.

I purchased a third antenna, but I don't want to disassemble the screen to add the third antenna next to the two stock antennas.

Can I just place the third antenna here (empty area next to mini PCIe slot):

Acer :: Adding Intel 5300AGN Wifi To Travelmate 4230

Oct 12, 2009

I've been wanting to upgrade this laptop, but it seems very snappy even with "only" 1gb RAM and 1.6ghz C2D.

One area it does need improvement on is the built-in G wireless. I would like to upgrade this to an Intel 5300AGN, but the 4230 only has two antenna connectors (for those not in the know, the 5300 has three connectors). An option of course is to install the 5100.

Where can I find the thread on a mod to add a third antenna?

Slightly off topic... What's the best N router or WAP for the 5300 to exploit the 300-450mbps theoretical transfer rate?

HP Pavilion G7 2269WM Networking :: External HDDs Disconnecting WiFi?

Oct 19, 2014

HP Pavilion g7 2269WM  W/ Windows 8.1(64bit)

I recently purchased an Insignia powered USB 3.0 hub to connect 2 External HDDS to my PC via 1 of 2 USB 3.0 ports.

HDDS -

1. Western Digital My Passport Ultra 500 GB
2. 500 GB SATA drive from another laptop put in an enclosure.

Both work just fine plugged in alone, plugged into the hub with the hub plugged into the NON 3.0 USB port.

But the second I plug the hub into a USB 3.0 port, wifi goes out, and sometimes 1 of the drives are not found.

When I unplug the hub, wifi continues to work.

I have tried doing this with the hub plugged into power and not, same results.  What is the issue causing a wifi issue? I dont understand how any of this is even related to a network connection.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: Losing WiFi Connection And (external) Screen Flickering On T440p

Jan 27, 2013

This is a brand new TP T440p and I installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 Pro on it (licenced). I've applied all Windows updates and installed all drivers/BIOS updates from Lenovo System Update.

The computer works fine, but when I put it to sleep and wake it back up, the external monitor is almost always flickering (there is a 1mm movement to left and right, line by line - I'll shoot a video, if the camera will be able to capture the movement, because it's very "fine"). Sometimes it stops after a few minutes, but most of the time I need to re-boot the computer.

Also, not always, but many times the WiFi connection is lost and I can't reconnect unless I reboot the computer.

Dell :: E4300 WWAN Antenna Alternative

Jan 20, 2010

I have an E4300 and an E6400. The E6400 came with a 5530 WWAN chip, which I would like to move into my E4300 instead. When opening the WLAN/WWAN compartment of the E4300 however there does not seem to be any wiring for the GSM card.

I then found some antenna wires leading to the Latitude ON slot. Since I really doubt I will be getting a Latitude ON chip in the near future, would I be able to run these wires to the WWAN card?

2) Should I move the 4965 (blue wire too short) and connect blue where in the gray wire is suppose to go?

Dell :: Adding RAM To A M6400

May 13, 2009

This is more for other people's information than my own. I upped my RAM from 2gb to 8gb and when booting afterwards, the system would repeatedly hang before the BIOS screen.

I removed each module one at a time, finally getting down to zero and putting my old RAM back in. The problem persisted. Apparently when the amount of system RAM changes, it scans everything for quite a while or something. I really don't know why.

It took nearly 5 minutes to boot the system. After that, I rebooted and it was fast as can be. Anyway, it was kind of nerve wracking and I was upset by the whole thing, so I'm hoping maybe someone will see this and be able to avoid the same stress I went through

Dell :: Adding Memory To A D620

Apr 18, 2010

I like my Dell D620 so much that I just got another one. I've heard that I should not add an additional 1G module to the existing 1G in this laptop, but rather that it is best to replace the existing 1G with either two matched 1G modules or one 2G module. Is that correct? Seems a shame to toss the 1G that's already in there . . .

Could I add a 2G module to the 1G that's already in there? I'm assuming that the bay will accept two RAM modules.

The OS is XP-Pro, SP3, if that matters.

iv notived that the studio 15 (1555) is getting a upgrade soon and a slight design change, and maybe the 17" studio too. the studio 15" is getting the 4570 soon and maybe the studio will get a better one too.

so will the studio ps get a new GPU too?

it would be amusing to see a low budget 15" multimedia laptop perform near dells high end gaming/multimedia made for performance and quality.

also even more funny to see a studio 17" maybe beat it.

i find it stupid how only MSI have started using the 4XXX ATI cards when they are so good.

some companies are on 3XXX still, its been like over ayears and a half now.

the FW wont get a 4XXX GPU and i need a upgrade now at my pc is a pain.
