Dell :: M6300 With FX 3600M

Jun 11, 2008

I'm just selling my Inspiron 9400 on eBay and considering to buy a M6300 instead.
It seems to be a powerful Laptop and a worthy upgrade.

1. Is it worth to buy 3 GB of RAM instead of 2 GB? I mean, is there ANY performance boost (for gaming)? Or will upcoming titles be probable of making use of more than 2 GB? I will be using Win XP btw...

2. Is the C2D T8300 (2.4GHz,3MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) a good choice? Or is the T9300 (2.5GHz) THAT much better (in terms of gaming performance)?

3. Is the 1440x900 non-glossy screen any good? Maybe some comparison to the one I used before (sharp/1920x1200/glossy)?

4. My set of choice will cost around 1550 euro (without the VAT Tax) and be something like:

- T8300 (2,4 GHz)
- FX 3600
- 200 GB HDD (7200 rpm)
- 1440x900 non-glossy
- 3 years guarantee

Is there any 15"/17" laptop from dell with a similar graphic performance at a similar (or cheaper) price?

5. Is it really worth to pay the 350 euro more to get the fx 3600 instead of the fx 1600?

Dell :: Quadro 3600M In A M1710

Mar 28, 2008

I am a fully certified DCSE for dell and I was just certifying today on the 2008 systems and noticed that the vcard instructions for the M1710 are identical to the Precision 6300.

the X800 really had 16 pipes, you can damm near oc the 7900GS' core double, amongst other surprises... It would explain why dell may have held out on this card until the dual 8800's came out for the M1730... Who would buy a 1730 w/8700's when you can get a new card for your 1710... Timing me thinks... It wouldn't hurt dell too much to release that card now since the duals are out and are obviously faster...

Dell :: Precision M6300 With FX 3600M (512MB)

Jul 9, 2008

this short review was already posted by me in the dell 17" section,
but i'll put it here, too, so it is easier accessable for all forum users.
it is also a little different, since i added a few things, which i noticed
while playing around with the laptop.

DELL Precision M6300

a few days ago i got my precision m6300 notebook from dell.
so far i benchmarked it with 3dmark06 and took a short look at it.
i payed 1483 euro and the laptop came with the following options:

core2duo t8300 2.4GHz/3MB L2 cache
nvidia fx 3600m card with 512MB
2GB 667MHz RAM (upgraded to 3GB myself)
200GB HDD 7200rpm (seagate)
1440x900 non glare display (lg, replaced by a samsung)
fingerprint reader
vista business to xp professional downgrade (you can use both)
3 years international guarantee

1. 3dmark06

i did the 3dmark06 benchmark at stock clock speeds (i think it's 500/799) with the stock dell driver 175.75. i am running the preinstalled xp pro operation system and most unnecessary background processes are disabled. i have:

8860 3dmarks

with a light overclock (600/900) i have:

9686 3dmarks

i think that's pretty nice. considering the slower cpu (2.4GHz vs. 2.8GHz) and the 175.75 stock dell driver, which is not optimized for gaming, the performance comes pretty close to the 8800GTX in the alienware/ notebooks (~9200 3marks) and it is pretty much the same like the mySN notebook's with the same processor (~8900 3dmarks).
this fact makes me think, that the fx3600 is probably rather a modified 8800gtx card than a gts and that the info shown by gpu-z is wrong. but who knows.

as the card can be overclocked even higher and also there is a way to oc the cpu, the notebook is able to get 10.000+ in 3dmark06.

btw: overclocking is very easy, you can just do it with ntune and there is no need to flash the vbios.

2. what's new

the notebook is very similar to the inspiron 9400/e1705 i had before.

the differences are:

a. different colour (makes it look a lot better)
b. the useless media direct button is used to switch between performance and battery save mode now (useful)
c. the battery is stronger (4 hours battery life vs. 2.5 hours)
d. fingerprint reader available................................

Dell :: Quadro 3600M Pipeline Details / RivaTuner Workarounds / Next Steps

Jul 24, 2008

I spent a few hours working with Riva Tuner and drivers and I am now able to see all of the shader info.

If you also want to do this, download the 169.39 drivers for the Quadro 3700 Desktop model, then hack the inf file to include 061c (3700 is 061a) and install the drivers. In Riva Tuner go into the Power Users Settings and set ForceVGADeviceID to 193 (8800 gtx I think) in Vista or 401 (8600GT) in XP. This will allow you to unlock the Low Level System Settings.

The 175.75 drivers will NOT work with Riva Tuner.

Ok, on to what I found. There are a total of 128 stream units in the 3600M. 64 of them are disabled (units 4-7) with no hardware mask. There are a total of 6 raster units in the 3600M. 2 of them are disabled (units 5-6). It appears as though Riva Tuner is not able to re-enable them - at least not in Vista 32. I also tried XP with no luck.

Looking back at the 7900gs to 7900gtx Bios flashing, extra stream units were probably not enabled after the flash, but performance increased. This led me to compare the 8800MGTX info to the 3600M info. I also compared the 3600M to the desktop 3700.........

Dell :: Precision M4300 Installed The NVIDIA Drivers For The NVidia Quadro FX 360M ...

Dec 29, 2008

I recently got a Dell Precision M4300 from a friend and had a few questions.

When i got the laptop, I reformatted the Laptop and Reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2. I proceeded from Microsoft to Update to SP3 and so on.

Well I also Went to Dell's Website and downloaded all the necessary drivers (using the service tag) for this laptop and installed them.

Now here is where I ran into a problem,

When I installed the NVIDIA drivers for the NVidia Quadro FX 360M video card, everything seemed to go fine. Then I rebooted the Laptop, and now every time I reboot, my hardware acceleration is defaulted back to None, and it gives me multiple pop ups about this issue. I go into the settings and turn the Acceleration back to full and it goes away.

This is a major problem, and is really frustrating to deal with everytime the laptop is booted up.

My other problem, is when I open up Internet Explorer, It tends to lock up the browser for no reason when Loading a website. I then CTRL+ALT+DEL and attempt to close iexplore.exe via the task manager. It closes the browser but does not shut down the browser, making it impossible to browse, so then I have to reboot.

here are the specs of the PC, from the device manager and drivers I have gotten

Dell Precision M4300
NVidia Quadro FX 360M 512mb Video Graphics Card
TSST 8x dvd+-R burner
120GB Hard Drive
3.5GB of Ram
2.5GHZ T9300 Core 2 Duo Processor
1394 Port
2 USB ports
External Monitor Ports
Wifi Support
Bluetooth Support
Windows XP SP2 Pro

Dell :: Nvidia 9M Cards

Apr 27, 2008

So at the moment the most powerful single card is the 8800gtx 512mb correct? It has been out for quite sometime now. I know that some 9 series cards have been released for laptops but have no where near the power of the 8800.

What current 9 series desktop card would have to be released for laptops to out power the 8800? Also when do you think the new card would be released.? I know its all kinda speculation at this point but just curious what people think as I may wanna buy a new laptop in a few months.

Dell :: NVIDIA 7900GS

Apr 27, 2009

I Have a NVIDIA 7900GS in my Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop and AGAIN, the card has gone out on me.

This time it lasted about 8 months and coincidentally, it was a few days after i reformatted the computer.

Are there any other video cards that I could use in the computer without having to do any modifications?

Does anyone know of a place to buy a NVIDIA 7900GS or or equivalent card at a respectable price?

Dell :: NVidia 8400m GS

Dec 6, 2008

I recently bought a laptop and before it ships I have been looking around at how the 8400m GS performs. The video card is labeled at 128 mb but many people have been posting on forums about how they're cards are telling them they have 256mb instead of 128.

More commonly, Youtube videos are all titled 8400m GS *256*. Is the 128mb version just really uncommon? Or is it really 256 mb. I also stumbled upon something called Turbo Cache (not sure if that's the right name for it) that has the GPU use some of my systems RAM...Isn't that what integrated chipsets do?

Anyway here's my system:

XPS M1530 Laptop: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1GHz/800Mhz FSB, 3MB Cache)

3 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (2 DIMMs)

320 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)

128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

If anyone knows anything about Turbo Cache or how this card performs with World of Warcraft.

Dell :: NVIDIA Driver 186.28

Oct 11, 2009

I am in search of the driver number in the title. It came factory preinstalled from dell and I had the installation files on disk, but accidentally deleted them, defragged, and now they're gone (save for if Power Data Recovery can recover them, Recuva already failed at that ).

Does anybody still have these babies? I ordered my laptop the first of October in Europe, so anyone that has ordered or received their laptop in around now should have these installed. They said they were revision A08, but it's nowhere to be found.

These are the only current drivers that would allow hybrid sli stuff to work, so I really need those. They came with a NVDJ.inf and WHQL certificate. I believe the driver date was around 26/06/2009, and I have scoured the dell ftp site for anything released around that date or later, but found nothing. Also laptopvideo2go doesn't have them. Currently running the NVIDIA notebook drivers, but they don't support the hybrid thing.

That is just not logical especially with other OEM using Nvidia GPU having the same issue.

Dell :: XPS M1330 WITHOUT NVIDIA Card

wondering if people have still run into issues with the M1330 with just the Intel X3100 card (overheating, motherboard, etc)? I really liked the XPS due to its looks and portability and wanted to hear people's opinions on purchasing this product with some features (such as 4 GB RAM, 250/320 GB HD, X3100 card, standard display, Core 2 Duo T8100) as I pretty much just use it for Internet, word processing, music, and watching occasional movies...I'm really in it for the portability factor as I occasionally lug my laptop around and use it in class (being a graduate student), but not every single day.

Now I have different colored lines and blinking pixels all over the screen, the background changes colors.. yellow, red, green.. and its not just on windows.. Bios, safe mode, everywhere.. Dell :: XPS Studio 13 :: Nvidia GPU Error

I currently have a 1330, and I am experiencing the dreaded nvidia GPU error and I have an engineer visiting me on Friday to replace the motherboard. I do not think this will fix it, as I have seen others who have had to have multiple replacements.

Therefore, I am thinking of getting a new laptop, and love the look of the Studio 13.

Can you confirm the following:

1) The Studio XPS 13 is not affected by the nvidia faulty chips?
2) I experiencing "popping" during audio playback which is not resolveable, something again to do to with hardware. Does this laptop suffer the same?
3) To your knowledge, are there any design flaws or problems with this model? I don't want go to through the same again
