I had the HDX16 on my shortlist for a new laptop but in all of the recent announcements by HP on refreshed Pavilions and new Envy laptops, the HDX has been conspicuous by it's absence. No information at all and I can still only see it available in Win Vista format from retailers, not Win 7. what the future holds for HDX? It looks like a good choice for a general multimedia laptop. Any refresh or updates planned? Or are HP likely to discontinue it?

Working on 3600M.
Should work on 8600M GT as well.
When I ordered my XPS M1730 I wasn't sure if I should or shouldn't ordered this? I really have no idea what this card really do or what slot it's going into?
View 7 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if the Studio XPS 13 with the 9500M support NVIDIA's PhysX?
NVIDIA's new beta drivers list the 9400M G and 9200M GS as supported and the 256MB of RAM meets the support requirement.
I've only just installed the newly released Dell Vista x64 drivers so wanted to see if anyone else had tried it or were going to try it?
Apparently Dell's codename for the m1730 is 'the beast', think they have watched a few too many B movies LOL

I just bought Mirror's Edge and I've installed it, but when I go to enable PhysX the game tells me that hardware acceleration is not supported by my system. I thought this card supported PhysX? For reference I tried using both the stock Apple boot camp drivers and the new official beta 179.28 from Nvidia.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am planning on buying a laptop for college in late june/ early july. The notebook I've had my eye on is the dell studio xps 16 (specs below):
Intel T9550 (2.6 Ghz, 6 MB Cache)
4 GB 1066MHz RAM
500 GB (7,200 RM) SATA - or - 256GB SSD
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 (512MB)
FullHD RGBLED LCD 1920x1080 Screen
BluRay Drive
Intel 5300 WLAN Wireless-N (3x3) Mini Card
Additional 9-Cell Battery
ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Sound Card
Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module (2.1+EDR)
Now, will there be any developments or changes during the time between now and when I plan to buy the laptop? also, any thoughts on 500GB 7,200 RM vs. 256 GB SSD... I'll have the money for the SSD, but I'm not sure if the cost/benefit of getting it is worth it.
But mainly, I'd like to know some insight about the future of the system (ie. price-drops, upgraded parts, et cetera)
I'm in the market for a new laptop; either the Studio 15 or the Studio XPS16. I'm still chuggin along on my Dell Inspiron 600m from 2003! Anyway,
it came with a copy of Windows XP, so I could do a clean OS install anytime I wanted.
Does Dell still do this? I'm waiting for Win7 to come out on Oct 22, and I basically want to have a clean install of the retail OS on my new computer.
This is a newb question: My 1640 now has a 7200RPM hard disk. Will I be able to replace/upgrade it in the future with SSD?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to purchase the dell studio 14z but am looking to get the best price possible.
Do you think if I wait dell would most likely have a back to school sale for the 14z as it is marketed towards students?
Right now I can get 170 dollars off (E-value and EPP). Should I wait or bite the bullet?
I'm curious about a few things. What would you rather have for now? at simliar specs? IE 256 Mb cards of each.
Currently th M1710 is the only laptop at 17" that has DVI support. One thing though, when the XPS is replaced by the new model, it will be based on the current 1720 right? So in other words the new XPS will not have DVI? Are there any threads or information speculating on the new XPS?
Oh and one other thing. Whats a good multiplayer game? I like call of duty 2 but have been out of the game scene for a while.
Onlive Gaming Service GDC 09
read that thread in the gaming forums
Quote:
The service works with pretty much any Windows or Mac machine as a small browser plug-in. Optionally, you will also be able to purchase a small device, called the OnLive MicroConsole, that you can hook directly into your TV via HDMI, though if your computer supports video output to your TV, you can just do it that way instead. Of course, you can also just play on your computer's display if you don't want to pipe it out to your living room set.
loots of potential in this. I might just need to upgrade to 17" MBP for this in the future.
Just wondering if there's any idea how long the bubbly Espresso imprint design will continue? Still deciding whether to pull the trigger on a laptop now though I don't like the finish (DV5t imprint was the best!) or wait for the next refresh, whenever that may be....
Am I the only one that thinks it's a little too cute for a laptop? It's not like a drive a VW bug w/the daisy hubcaps or anything
Is there any word on possibly upgrading the Vaio F series GPU to something better than the 330M in the future? It is the only thing stopping me from getting a Vaio F , since it won't be too great for gaming.

If I buy a 2.8ghz macbookpro, will i be able to upgrade it in the future to 3.06ghz or higher from Apple or another place?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI own an HDX16T. Day 1, I burnt RECOVERY DISKS and then I proceeded with a clean install with a new vista install.
I decided to try to restore the notebook with those recovery disks. Guess what? It appears that you can no longer use those disks without having the original HP RECOVERY PARTITION?
I just simply can't use it anymore. I can't restore my notebook to factory condition anymore. The only option I have is to Click "FINISH" and reboot.
I'm thinking about snagging a copy of iWork 2009 because, well, I don't like Office 2008 even though I paid a marginal price for the suite as available from my medical school. I realize that Office 2011 is coming within the next seven months or so, but until then...
I haven't been able to find a thing out about iWork 2010, so I'm assuming I'd just spring for the '09 version. In experimenting with the trial, I've noticed that even a simple import of a text-only .docx is formatted differently; it seems like the line spacing is different, because in the imported .pages that Pages makes from the source .docx I made, there are two additional lines of text on the first page. Why is this?
My big thing is that all created works must be easily taken to a different platform; I like OS X, but I have no allegiance to it or to Apple, and if a solid competitor to the 15" MBP comes along, I would seriously consider switching back to Windows 7. I rarely need to share .doc/.docx (or any other Office suite) files with others for their own editing, so PDF exports would suffice most of the time.
I know that .pages files are essentially archives containing XML data and a .pdf of the document, but I'd hate to have to hand-convert a bunch of XMLs if I did switch back. And sadly, Pages doesn't natively save to a .doc/.docx -- it only exports (though I did read about a hack to change that some time ago). Formatting mismatches for something as minor as line spacing are just concerning.
Does anybody know if Acer build an new Ferrari NB in the future?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm so disgusted with Dell. I bought one of the Vostro 15" laptops when they first came out. Less than 2 years later the motherboard goes out. Last Christmas (2008), I bought my daughter a 13" XPS. It cost me about $1,000. 16 months later the mother board goes out on it and Dell wants $400 to fix it. Either I have the worst luck in the world when it comes to laptops or there is a problem with Dell's QC. My brother bought a cheap Toshiba 5 years ago and it still works fine. I'm not sure what to do about my daughter's laptop. Is it worth $400 to fix it?

View 10 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else had duplicate laptops for one order sent?
Now, this is the story. My old Inspirion died so I decided to buy a new one, 1525. I ordered it on the 12 February and was told it would be delivered by the 28 February.
On the 17th I am sent an email saying parts to my laptop aren't available - minor parts, the colour I wanted and the free bag colour. I check the online status and it has gone from Shipped from Factory to cancelled on the 19th.
I call Dell to ask why they cancelled my order without telling me, they tell me someone will call me back. No one does.
I get an email on 23rd February saying that my laptop has been upgraded due to parts not being available, 250GB hard drive from 160, Windows Office (never ordered it!), red instead of brown and it will be manufactored asap. A new order number is generated and everything.
On the 24th, my original laptop order is delivered to my work. With both the laptop colour and bag I ordered that apparenetly wasn't available.
On the 28th, I get an email saying the 2nd laptop is shipped. I am away so can't call them so I email them requesting they do not send it. However this second laptop was delivered on 2 March. I call Dell, they don't believe me and according to them the 1st laptop does not exist. They say they will call me back. They don't. However on 4 March, courier calls me to organise a date for the pickup.
I receive an email that day when I get home with a third order, I look at the order status, its the same as the second laptop. I get an email today, the 6th, saying its shipped from the factory.
Everyone I've talked to at Dell do not think my first laptop exists and I can't understand why they are sending me this third one. I don't know what to do, no one at customer service listens to me. There has been only one charge on my credit card.
What if you sent it back because it was defective? Will they strip the working parts and use it in their next new laptop build, or will it go into their spare parts collection?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm curious to hear what experiences you all have had with laptops from Dell Outlet (looking at Latitude D630). Was it a scratch-and-dent, refurbished, previously ordered new, etc.?
I would upgrade to 3-year Pro Support and Warranty and buy additional accessories (docking station, router, etc.).
Is it worth the risk? Will they take it back no questions asked or do I have to pay 15% restocking fee? (Dell was ambiguous about this).
I saw an add ( coming soon) XPS studio laptops.......I have two questions.
1) WHen is the launch?
2) WHat specs?
Is it Quanta? Or Compal? Or some other company I've never heard of?

They have the same specs, but the N0074509 is €100,00 cheaper. Please can anyone explain this to me?
notice that many people on dell forums are complaing about a very large delay in shipping certain computers.
I know the XPS laptops are being delayed right now. So Make sure that you know if your model will be affected by the delay.
Mothers computer had been ordered around the 8th of december. orriginally the ship date was before christmas. later that had been extended to the 18th of january and now its nearly into febuary.
