so I finally received a functional 1640 earlier today and have been getting it set up this evening.
I've worked through a few software quirks so far, but one thing I can't figure out is how to make the PowerDVD program that came with the computer play new Blu-Ray movies.
A newer movie, such as Transformers will begin and then get stuck at the menu because I won't be able to select any menu items. This is not the case with Disturbia, which is a bit older and plays fine, no menu trouble. I assume I need to download an update for PowerDVD, but it won't let me.
It will not allow me to select the "update" option. Do you have any ideas how I could get the dumb program working properly? I think I have version PowerDVD DX 8.2.5408.
I have a HP 15-g094sa Notebook with Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and for the whole of my day yesterday, I spent time trying to make my PowerDVD 12 work.
A while ago I wanted to watch a DVD, and when it came to the language selection screen and just froze when I clicked 'English'. I opened Task Manager and ended the session, then tried to start the DVD again and it still froze there. I tried a few times, but with it still not working I just gave up.
Around a week later (yesterday), I wanted to watch a different DVD and after the opening scenes (e.g. for my FRIENDS DVD's it gets past the 'Warner Home Videos' opening), when it's about to go to the DVD's main menu, it comes up with the dialog box of 'PowerDVD12.exe has stopped working' and a crash report of 'Cyberlink PowerDVD cannot play back inserted disc. Code = 0102':
I tried to replace the files within the Cyberlink folder from my sister's HP laptop, but all I got was it having audio, no display, and the 'minimize, maximize and close' bar not being there.
I tried doing System Restore back to the 7th, which would just mean I'd get the original files back, but not far enough to the date it froze, but after that I got the message that it was unsuccessful due to my antivirus, I tried two other times with disabling my antivirus and both antivirus and firewall, but it still didn't work.
I uninstalled it from the Control Panel, and went to 'HP's Software and driver downloads' for my PC. I downloaded the recent PowerDVD 12, it went past the FRIENDS menu screen but played only 5 seconds of the disc before it gave me the error message again.
I tried to install later versions of PowerDVD 12, but this did not work. These are the versions (in purple) that I attempted to install:
Browsing the forums I tried the HP System Recovery to reinstall it, it still didn't work.
(I noticed that when you install PowerDVD, it asks about loading/scanning files from my computer, after pressing 'next', it loads PowerDVD's home screen, and the loading symbol for the loading of my files freezes for a bit, then the error message appears.)
So now I'm completely stuck on what to do. I tried with other discs to be sure, but my Twilight DVD's go past the opening credits, but never reaches the main menu selection screen.
I was trying to watch a DVD on my laptop and kept receiving an error from PowerDVD 10, saying that it was an invalid media type. After looking online, I noticed that some people said that the update might fix this. So, I downloaded the update and ran the installer. It required that I remove the current installed version of PowerDVD in order to install the patch. After the installer wiped that from my computer and began to install the patch, I received a message stating that "This software can only be installed on a Lenovo system." This was a patch file that the program sent me to, called "PowerDVD_v5630_RiTA10(Lenovo)(PDVDServDelayStartup)_DVD130802-14.exe"
After looking at this, I went through the knowledge base and found that there is another file linked for updating the PowerDvd software called "Lenovo.Lenovo_RiTA10_v_DVD110707-07.exe". When I tried to run this I get the following error:
"Cannot install the patch. Either this patch is not intended for your version of PowerDVD 10 or your system does not have a previous version of PowerDVD 10 installed. The patch installation will abort."
Of course I don't have any previous version of PowerDVD 10 installed, because the other patch uninstalled it in order to install. Now I am stuck without the DVD software in this terrible Windows 8 environment. I even tried VLC player and the video is cut off. This is very frustrating. This is on my IdeaPad Y580.
I am having trouble playing DVD's on my HP Pavillion g7-2300 notebook. I've had this laptop for a long time and I was able to play DVDs up until a few days ago, but today when I inserted a disc I got this message:
When I click on "learn more" it brings me to a webpage where there are newer versions of cyberlink media software available for purchse. As you can see in the image there is an ad for one of the versions.
There was one update available for the Cyberlink PowerDVD software and I installed it. This did not fix the issue and I am still geting the same message as above. I also tried to play different DVDs.
I have PowerDVD OEM version 10.0.8.5723 and am using Windows 8.1. I've had Windows 8.1 for many months and as I mentioned I was able to play DVD's before with this windows version.
As far I as I can tell it isn't a trial version. It's asking me to buy an upgrade not a full version so this is what leads me to believe it's not a trial version.
Why the sudden change?
Unfortunately the Windows Media Player software on my laptop doesn't play DVDs. I've searched for Quicktime software, but there doesn't seem to be any available for Windows 8 or 8.1.
I currently own a XPS Gen2 I purchased in Oct 2005. When I was deployed back to Iraq this past year it started acting up and now when I boot it the screen is just black. I have been told by a few people that it is the Vid card that has died on me. If so. Is there any modding to put a 7800gtx in it? I have seen on the forums where I can purchase one for around $260US.
I'm getting with my rig with everything turned on LOW at native res (1440 x 900). I am using the recommended 163.44 drivers. This is garbage, isn't there anything I can do to make it better?
Pentium M 1.6Ghz pin modded to 2.13Ghz (previous CPu was 1.73Ghz) , 2Gb RAM (667Mhz sticks), 6800 Ultra (Xps Gen 2 Bios flash-A05, previous card was an X300 64MB.)
I seem to be getting odd 3DMark05 socres, around the range of 4500, I tried overclocking the 6800 Ultra to 500/1166 and that produced a result of around 5000. The odd thing is that 3DMark05 appears to be running "choppy" every other frame it seems to skip producing a choppy flow of the tests, the frame rate also fluctuate by about 5 FPS in somewhat low movement/action scenes.
I have tried numerous drivers all resulting in the same thing (every driver has been cleanly installed). I am also quite certain that it's not a temperature issue as the max temp the card reaches (according to I8kfanGUI) is around 80-85 C. Just to be certain I ran 3dmark while the laptop was in an ambient temp of -5C (holding laptop outside the window ;]) and still the same...although max temperatures were a lot lower.
So is it possible that the card is for some reason throttling back and forth from the high performance 3d profile (450/1064/1.38v) to the low profile one (250/658/1.1v)?
I got the card from eBay over a year ago now and thus have no warranty on it.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a solution?
I am currently considering flashing the card with a custom BIOS, using NiBiTor 3.6 get BIOS from card, change ONLY throttling values to 450/1064 and also voltage to 1.38v, do not touch anything else, save the BIOS burn to CD (alongside a copy of original BIOS read from card)-[no floppy] and flash.
However I am a bit worried about killing the card, has anyone attempted something like this? Also the ROM files generated by NiBiTor are exactly 64,000 bytes is this alright?
What, if anything, is needed to be done in order to upgrade my system from having a 6800 Ultra card to a 7800 GTX card? Do I need to purchase any additional parts?
I'm in the processes of cleaning out my XPS Gen2 for the first time since 2005 (yes yes I know...) because it started shutting down during some games. The question I have is related to the heat pads on the video card memory, FETs, and on the chipset heatsink. I know these things suck. I want to use AS5 in place of them but there is a gap between the heatsinks and the memory/chipset/fets when you remove them. How have you guys gotten around this? Is there a better version of a heat pad and where would I get them?
had a dell e4200 with the ultra performance solid state drive upgrade in my hands for a day or two last weekend. i'd looked everywhere for benches on the upgraded drive before purchasing, but i couldn't find them anywhere. so when i got the computer i decided to take some benchmarks to help out any other shoppers.
couldn't take any write benchmarks because the drive was an o.s. drive. i believe this drive is an slc drive with samsung's second generation ssd controller.
i don't have access to the laptop anymore, so i might not be able to answer any questions you may have about the drive or the laptop itself. but i'll try my best.
A couple weeks ago I put my laptop (a Dell XPS M170) beside my bed cause I had to use the MC Alarm to get up cause I had to be up at like 4 AM and I don't do well with the beep beep alarms.
Anyway, I plugged it in and sat it on the floor on top of (for lack of anything better) two Arizona tallboy cans laid longways (the feet sat on these) with a chess set box underneath (in case
it happened to slip off one of the cans). I also left the screen partway up. Well of course I left it on overnight for the alarm, but when I got up to go to the bathroom ...
What do you use to clean your screens with? I have grubby little fingerprints ALL over mine, and it is especially annoying on black screens in movies/games and such.
I almost bought a pack of normal "LCD Cleaning Wipes" but then I noticed it had Alcohol in it and shyed away from it. Why? I'm assuming that Alcohol would hurt the sensitive gloss finish on the screen, but my assumption could be wrong (and hopefully it is, would be much simpler to use those wipes). I also tried just using a dry wash cloth and just gently rubbing the prints off, but it only smeared them, and I'm afraid I'll damage the screen if I push any harder than I already am. Using a wet wash cloth seemed to have no effect either.
So how about it? What method do YOU use, and find best, to clean your screens?
I have been looking into upgrading my 9300 from the 6800 to the 6800 Ultra for the past couple of years now. The prices are finally reasonable enough to do the swap. My question is would the swap even be worth it these days? Is it still a good enough card to make it worth my while to come up from the standard 6800 even with overclocking it?
Keyboard backlit stopped working (it used to work earlier). In BIOS the keyboard is now defined as a nonbacklight (BIOS was updated by L521XA13W.exe from dell.com/support/drivers), not sure how it was defined while working...
I've looked for a solution at community.dell.com/support-forums: - pressing Fn+F6 doesn't switch it on,- launching BacklitKB.exe from QuickSet says the backlight is on but it's not (I can adjust brightness, timing, turn it off/on but it still won't work),- reinstalling the QuickSet doesn't work,- Windows Mobility Center lists the backlit keyboard, but doesn't bring it on;- putting it to sleep and waking it up also doesn't work as well as restarting it.
For whatever reason, my 6800 Ultra in my XPS Gen2 I got awhile ago went dead. Can anyone suggest where I can get a replacement on the cheap(er)? I bought the 6800 Ultra upgrade for $500 back then and now spare parts wants $599 for one.
does anyone know if apple will be making an ultra-portable anytime soon? i prefer apples to windows but i dont like the big size and im not a fan of the air.
I've a Vaio TT that I'm (or was) fairly happy with, and before that I had the TX and the TZ.
I would however like to replace the TT since the Blu-ray has stopped working for the second time and I just refuse to pay an insane amount of $ to have it fixed. The question is, - Replace it with what?
I want an ultra-portable, i.e. 12" or smaller screen, weight less than 3 lbs, and it must have Blu-ray and SSD. Where can I find one
I have two aspire one running XP and one is very slow. I switched the HD and the problem remains with the notebook. I did upgrade the BIOS to the latest one, no change.
What I found is that the ATA/ATAPI controller is set to MODE PIO on the slow notebook and I cannot change it to ULTRA DMA. When I change the driver to the right one then at startup I need to get back to the previous correct configuration as oit will not load windows..
Ok, so I really needed more hard drive space in my T350p, I am guessing alot of you are in the same boat I am and the machine is great if only it had more hard drive space.
Unfornately pretty much all the large drives are in either Zif or sata, so changing the internal drive was not going to get me much more space.
So, I looked at other options. I did not want to use an external, they are great and I have several of them, but it is just not as conveniant as having a large built in drive.....
Screen size : 11 inch Weight with battery : below 1.3kg RAM: 2GB or more Wireless Network : 802.11b/54Mbps(802.11a/g)/300Mbps(Draft 802.11n) Hard Drive : at least 120GB Prefer to have carbon fiber casing
Any particular model I should look for on ebay or in the current market ?
I have a set of 6 new T440s laptops along with Ultradocks. I ordered 2 sets of 3, with a month inbetween. I am having a problem where all of my Ultradocks produce a very loud buzzing noise from the connected speakers whenever the laptop is turned off or undocked. If the laptop is docked and powered on, everything sounds fine. I have contacted support and they are sending me a replacement dock, but since the issue is so consistent and effects all my docks.
I own one Lenovo E430. By now he is running Windows7, fully patched and updated. My issue is related with ultra-high touching sensitivity of the TouchPad. The TouchPad can react even on cloth touch.
This is problem for me, because I use TrackPoint, I don't have external keyboard and during high utilization extra unwanted clicks lead to unpredicted events. So, my question is how can I disable the Touchpoint.
The W540 has an onboard video card in addition to the NVidia video card. We use AutoCAD and Revit, and will never care for the onboard video card driver. We cannot seem to get the 170 watt Ultra Docking Stations (plural) to work with our W540 Laptops (plural) when selecting the NVIDIA card and using an external monitor. We have updated all the drivers Lenovo has asked us to including the firmware on the docking station. We have followed the instructions to make the change in the BIOS so that the NVIDIA card is only used. We have called Lenovo support twice on two separate occasions. On one occasion, they said we are not the only people to call in about the problem, and that our only course of action is to get another docking station or return the dock to our vendor. Using Windows 8.1, W540 on an ultra dock and using HDMI? Even though I mention HDMI, (because I think it is the main suspect), DVI seems to blue screen the laptop too.
