After deactivating bluetooth either with the wifi-switch or clicking the bluetooth icon, it cannot be activated again by either of this two functions. If the BIOS is set to switch bluetooth with the wifi-switch, I could not find a way to activate it again. If the BIOS is set to not switch bluetooth with the wifi-switch, after rebooting the pc bluetooth works again. In any case the bluetooth LED is always off.
I tried Dell online pc diagnostic. It downloads and starts "DellPCDiagnostics.exe", I can see it is running in task manager. But the web page complains: Diagnostic launcher was downloaded but could not be started ...
I loaded all available updates, without success.
My system details: Dell Precision M4700 Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit Dell Wireless 380 Bluetooth 4.0Â

I have been having a lot of issues with my Precision M4700 stalling during boot, directly on the display of the Windows logo so I am attempting to reinstall, btw there are serious issues with recovery mode but that is another issue.
My system is English spec but was bought in Germany so I have a German tag. When I choose the firmware and drivers for my machine I am offered a very different versions to those offered for my model. In particular, I see CV version 2.2 when the version offered without using my system tag is 2.3. Are there technical hardware differences or is it just that the German language version of the software isn't yet available?

I purchased a Dell Precision M4700 pre-installed with Windows 8 just before Christmas. Over all I am happy with it. My biggest regret was getting Windows 8.
The issue that is really starting to frustrate me is the inability to access the internet through certain secure WiFi access points. For example, IÂ am sitting in a Marriott hotel using the Wifi network in their conference facility. Yesterday I could connect, today I cannot get to the login page. After several attempts to force a fresh connect by connecting to another network I have given up and am now tethered via my phone. A Windows 7 laptop and iPad connect without any problems.
At two companies that had a secure guest network I was unable to login at all.
As far as I can tell from the Dell web site the drivers for the Wifi card (Dell 1540) are all upto date (version 6.30.59.26).

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop. When I originally got it from Dell, with all the software installed, it had a feature that would show "Caps Lock On" and so on when I turned on caps lock, or scroll lock.
I re-installed Windows since I upgraded the hard drive and want to know how to get this feature back. I installed the Dell Feature Enablement Pack, which gives me the "hotkey" menu, but no lock status options.
What's the software that shows this on screen?

IÂ have a Dell Precision M4700 and am trying to use the keyboard backlight.Â
The problem is that even a short pause in typing, the keyboard backlight goes out. (about 5-6 seconds). It does not go on until I hit another key, (which then types that character, which I then have to erase).
Is there a way to set the keyboard backlight delay to a longer setting?

I have a Precision M4700, Windows 7 Ultimate on which the touchpad and keyboard nubbin have become unresponsive ever since I installed a Mircosoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000. The touchpad doesn't even appear in the device manager under the human input devices. Pro support at Dell is baffled. I've looked at the settings in the Dell Touchpad software and everything looks OK (e.g., Touchpad is not disabled). It's simply gone. It doesn't appear in the Bios or when we booted from a Windows 7 DVD. Â We well probably either have to send the system back or replace the motherboard? What is to prevent it from happening again?

I'm trying to install an extra Samsung 840 evo mSata in my new m3800 but the BIOS does not recognize the disc. I tried 2 840 msata both with same result not recognized.Â
Changed several settings in BIOS:
- disabled Intel Smart Technology- SATA operations to AHCI- Secure boot disabled- load legacy option enabled
Does the Samsung mSata is supported in an m3800?

The other day I was converting a video file. I walked out of the room and then when I came back 15 minutes later, my Laptop had turned off. I booted it up and the BIOS informed me that it had to close down due to overheating! I felt underneath and the part just above the DVD-ROM drive was extremely hot. I did the same again with my Laptop and it just shut itself down again after about 5 minutes. I removed the bottom and both the Laptop up and the fans on the bottom are working fine.

What is going on with updating the Bios with Dell laptops? I have a Dell M4500 precision laptop. I'm running Windows 7 pro 64 bit an I7 quad processor and 8 gigs of memory. I can't update the bios past V 07. When I looked through the support  posts I found people asking the same question and when I did a search I found over 300.000 hits for the same problem many Dell laptops.  What I have NOT found is Dell addressing the problem.  Is it the update engine it's self or a problem with the computers?  I installed all the patches and all the updates for my computer except the Bios.Â

I have a Precision m6700 that I'm trying to install OS X Mountain Lion on. Â The biggest problem I have at the moment is that the laptop won't wake from sleep.
It goes to sleep okay. Â With the slowly pulsating light on the power button, but when I try and wake it up the machine goes into a loop of trying to start and then turning itself off after a few seconds. Â I suspect it's something to do with ASF and Intel Management Engine getting confused by OSX. Â Or OSX not doing something it needs to before the machine enters sleep. Â In the bios log I see 'ASF2 force off' events that match the time and frequency of the wake attempts. How do I find out what is generating these alerts?
Alternatively, is there any way to turn ASF or Intel Management Engine off? There is a yellow sticker in the battery bay that says 3 ME DISABLED.  From what I've read elsewhere this indicates that the Intel Management Engine is permanently turned off on this laptop. Why it's generating ASF alerts at all!?  Â
I've also trying the CCTK tool with --asfmode=off. Â This reports that asfmode isn't available on this laptop.

I recently updated my Dell m4800 to BIOS A8 with Windows 7 64. I had been using a collection of older power adapters from my previous Dell m4400 without any issues. After the update, wow. A huge performance hit if I do not have the 19.5 volt and 9.23 amp adapter connected.
The m4400 power adapter is 19.5 volt and 6.7 amp. Pretty close right? Not any more.
I do have it connected to a Dell docking station almost all the time. Just checked. They are both 6.7 amp.
What changed in BIOS A8 and what the deal is with the performance? Looks like I need to request a new docking station, but I'm not sure IT will believe my story.

I am trying to find out who the ODM ( original design manufacturer) is for these precision models, dell no longer sells them, perhaps there is another channel for buying one besides Dell???
If anyone has any information please let me know and also what model not just the ODM's name.
For example ALienware laptops are made by the ODM Clevo which also sells the same Chassis without the alienware bling and price under the name of Sager, Averatec also as I recall ....

has anyone ordered and received a 17" Precision M6400 or M6400 Covet? Can anyone post when they ordered and received?
I just gave up on a month-and-a-half old order, and am trying to gauge whether I can actually expect the new one I placed to arrive. The sales rep, of course, will tell you "Oh Dec. 2nd is the worst case scenario, it should arrive before then!"
Ordered 9/26. Gave up and cancelled order 11/5.
Ordered again 11/5. Expected delivery: 12/2. (But will it make it)?
Oh and if you ordered a Covet, can you say whether it was glossy or matte screen? There seems to be great confusion on this! .......

I'm looking to upgrade my cheap consumer-grade laptop with something more robust. My uses are mostly software development as well as photography (Photoshop, etc.). I'm not interested in using this new machine for gaming (that would be a very secondary use).
I'm looking for a 17" laptop, so am considering both the Vostro 3700 and Precision M6500. I understand the system differences between these two machines, as well as the cost differences. Ideally, I'd like whatever I buy to last 3+ years without falling too far behind in technology, but on the other hand the Precision is very expensive (budgets suck).
Thus, would the new Vostro 3700, maxed out on configuration, be a worthwhile investment or, since I'm going to spend the money, should I go the extra mile and get the Precision? What would I miss (other than the graphics card mostly) if I go Vostro?
I've been agonizing over this for a good month or so and realize making a decision like this in a vacuum isn't going to happen, so let me know your thoughts.

Based on this post[url] it would appear the Media bay only allows for 1.8" hard disks!
Is this true? Can anyone confirm this is true for both models?
2xHDD is a must for me - running VMs on a single disk is a _real_ drag!

So I bought a M65 precision a few years ago (3-4)
Now that a good windows OS 64bit is available, I decided to to upgrade my ram from 2gb to the maximum 4gb.
After seeing that my computer recognizes 4GB but is only using 3GB I got pissed off.
After some research I found this link:
[url]
"So you pay a really huge premium (compared with 2Gb RAM) to get 4Gb of RAM ... and so how much memory do you expect the BIOS to make available to the OS. For a Dell M65 the answer is just 3.071Gb.
Response from Dell ...
The processor only has 32 address lines, limiting it to an addressing map of 4 gigabytes.
The chipset, PCI devices, PCI express region, and video cards use some of this map, and the BIOS correctly reports this range as unavailable to the operating system. If the user installs 4 GB of physical memory, then the processor has no way to address the memory that overlaps with these regions, already in use. The chipset directs memory access to the appropriate device rather than sending it to random access memory (RAM).
On Dell's new line of desktops, PCI express uses 500 megabytes (MB) in the map; integrated video takes 256 MB right below PCI express, leaving 3.25 GB of memory available to the operating system via RAM. In some cases, less RAM is available depending on what other add-in cards are installed.

(note: I posted this in the XPS/Studio section, and I'm reposting it here since it pertains to both)
I am looking for a notebook for my girlfriend. She studies architecture, so she needs something with a powerful GPU, high resolution display, but not too heavy (she has to lug it with her every day all over campus). We don't want to spend more than ~$1500, and hopefully get it for less than that with discounts (either through the University or her mother's job) .....

so after complaining to dell many times about terrible heats and non expected shutdowns due to heat they have arranged a replacement for my system, one in the sig.
They called me on friday saying they where going to book an M6300 with the LOWER 1600M, so I opposed as i didnt payed the premium of having the 2500m just for nothing. So now they are looking at 3 main options.
Money Back
Exchange for XPS M1730
Gime me a 1600M and then upgrade it to 2600M.
IMO money back is the best option, eventhough the XPS M1730 base is just a bit more expensive, like 300 eur = 430$, i can make sure that i get it with the stuff i want, I dont really trust them on exchanging it to the base XPS and im sure they will lower stuff like 120gb hd, t7300 , CDRW-DVD etc, Im completelly opposed to a 1600m and exchange for 2600m as Im not even sure if it will ever be released.
What should I expect from them? I have really no clue on that, i have the maximum warranty you can have on the computer that is NBD Multi Care, so from what i can read in the specs of the warranty a replacement cannot be lower of performance in anycase than its predecessor.
If they were to upgrade me to the xps with shity stuff, by that i mean parts that are not available in the web but they can order in an specific situation like mine, should I really complain, Im reading posts of an upcoming 8800GTX for laptops, should i just ask for my money and wait for it to be released? Are they gonna put it in SLI ?
