Dell Precision M4700 :: Running Windows 8 Cannot Connect To Secure Networks
Mar 1, 2013
I purchased a Dell Precision M4700 pre-installed with Windows 8 just before Christmas. Over all I am happy with it. My biggest regret was getting Windows 8.
The issue that is really starting to frustrate me is the inability to access the internet through certain secure WiFi access points. For example, I am sitting in a Marriott hotel using the Wifi network in their conference facility. Yesterday I could connect, today I cannot get to the login page. After several attempts to force a fresh connect by connecting to another network I have given up and am now tethered via my phone. A Windows 7 laptop and iPad connect without any problems.
At two companies that had a secure guest network I was unable to login at all.
As far as I can tell from the Dell web site the drivers for the Wifi card (Dell 1540) are all upto date (version 6.30.59.26).
I am running Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop. When I originally got it from Dell, with all the software installed, it had a feature that would show "Caps Lock On" and so on when I turned on caps lock, or scroll lock.
I re-installed Windows since I upgraded the hard drive and want to know how to get this feature back. I installed the Dell Feature Enablement Pack, which gives me the "hotkey" menu, but no lock status options.
I'm attempting to enable BitLocker on a Latitude E7440 running Windows 8.1. The system is in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled, so I'd like to use Secure Boot for integrity validation. I have the appropriate GPO set, but if I try to enable the TPM protector, I get the following warning event in the BitLocker-API management event log:
BitLocker cannot use Secure Boot for integrity because the expected TCG Log entry for variable 'SecureBoot' is missing or invalid.
This is immediately followed by:
BitLocker determined that the TCG log is invalid for use of Secure Boot. The filtered TCG log for PCR[7] is included in this event.
The system therefore ends up configured with a regular platform validation profile instead of using Secure Boot. Is this a problem with the firmware on the Atmel TPM on the system, or is it something else?
my new Precision M4700/Core i5/FirePro4000/4 GB wont recognize a Samsung 830 as a HDD replacement. The SSD does not even appear in the BIOS. Attached via USB, works. Attached via adapter in Optical Bay, works. Sata II but okay. Its even booting the cloned Dell Image on my Z77 PC. ive replaced the Samsung 830 and nothing. No BIOS detection at Port 0.I treid all the Sata Settings with no luck. I bought a Crucial M4 and it works. But Only Sata II.
After deactivating bluetooth either with the wifi-switch or clicking the bluetooth icon, it cannot be activated again by either of this two functions. If the BIOS is set to switch bluetooth with the wifi-switch, I could not find a way to activate it again. If the BIOS is set to not switch bluetooth with the wifi-switch, after rebooting the pc bluetooth works again. In any case the bluetooth LED is always off.
I tried Dell online pc diagnostic. It downloads and starts "DellPCDiagnostics.exe", I can see it is running in task manager. But the web page complains: Diagnostic launcher was downloaded but could not be started ...
I loaded all available updates, without success.
My system details: Dell Precision M4700 Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit Dell Wireless 380 Bluetooth 4.0
Is there any way to change the touchpad gesture scrolling on a new dell precision m4700? There does not appear to be an option in the touchpad settings like on other dells.
I have been having a lot of issues with my Precision M4700 stalling during boot, directly on the display of the Windows logo so I am attempting to reinstall, btw there are serious issues with recovery mode but that is another issue.
My system is English spec but was bought in Germany so I have a German tag. When I choose the firmware and drivers for my machine I am offered a very different versions to those offered for my model. In particular, I see CV version 2.2 when the version offered without using my system tag is 2.3. Are there technical hardware differences or is it just that the German language version of the software isn't yet available?
I have a Dell Precision M4700 and am trying to use the keyboard backlight.
The problem is that even a short pause in typing, the keyboard backlight goes out. (about 5-6 seconds). It does not go on until I hit another key, (which then types that character, which I then have to erase).
Is there a way to set the keyboard backlight delay to a longer setting?
I have a Precision M4700, Windows 7 Ultimate on which the touchpad and keyboard nubbin have become unresponsive ever since I installed a Mircosoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000. The touchpad doesn't even appear in the device manager under the human input devices. Pro support at Dell is baffled. I've looked at the settings in the Dell Touchpad software and everything looks OK (e.g., Touchpad is not disabled). It's simply gone. It doesn't appear in the Bios or when we booted from a Windows 7 DVD. We well probably either have to send the system back or replace the motherboard? What is to prevent it from happening again?
WLAN is shown in device manager as functional, it even can find networks in range and everything. But when I want to connect to a network it gets to a point when it asks me for the username and pass, and stops there. The error sometimes says that it can't identify the server or that i should just try to reconnect. I tried connecting to various networks, and I can't even make it tell me that my pass is wrong... It seems that it isn't able to communicate with the server. It passes Intel wlan tests until the 'association' test.
Rainstalling the drivers and/or the windows didn't help, should I send it for RMA?
I had to upgrade my system to Window 7 Ultimate, the laptop came with regular Windows 7.
I updated all drivers and everything else works perfect except for that I cannot connect to any wireless network. No matter how close I am to a network the computer does not recognize it.
Then I finally noticed the wireless button on the keyboard being red and no matter what I do, I cannot get it to go off.
Also just noticed in Device managers a few "!" next to some items
PCI Device is not installed Network Controller is not installed
I have 3 thinkpads that after a fresh reload are unable to connect to wireless networks. I have gone through and installed the different wireless drivers on the lenovo support website.I have gone through several steps of similar problems others have had but it hasn't made a difference.
I have installed:
-HotKeys & patch -Power manager & driver -Chipset
The realtek network -ethernet adapter and communications LAN driver.I have installed and removed each wireless adapter available
Thinkpad Edge 15 Type: 0319-46U
On a side note in the Device manager screen there is a "Network Controller" alert saying no driver installed for this device. I have determined it is some Realtek device but beyond that I am lost.
The BT Moust is a Dell Travel Mouse F299K. When I add it through the normal bluetooth menu, it seems to add correctly, but the blue light on the mouse keeps blinking.
I updated the BIOS to A12- that got it working for about 15 minutes. Then it quit and I'm back to where I started. I tried the mouse on two other machines and it works fine. Even on a Macbook Pro.
My new T440s sees my home networks yet won't connect with passwords that absolutely are correct. Running Windows 7 (64-bit) Pro, everything is updated.
Also, it won't even connect to an open network.
This is bizarre...and makes the machine nearly useless.
I recently bought a centrino 6300 wifi card from ebay with the correct FRU (60Y3233) from a centrino 6205. The new card detects networks but it cannot connect to the networks.
I am having a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop which came with a Ubuntu installation. For obvious reasons I shifted to Windows 8.1 x64 pro but immediately my machine no longer detected networks. In fact, I can only see the option to use wired connection now (after installing some drivers from Dell) in the system tray network notification.
Yesterday, I updated to win 8.1. The process appeared to go smoothly, but I now have a number of issues:
1 If I close the lid and reopen, the sytem does not wake up. It does not wake up if I press the power button. All I can do is a hard shutdown and reboot. This occasionally gives an error message on restart, but has not produced any solutions.
2 There is a message about secure boot not being configured
3 The support app has a cross on it and won't work
No doubt there are other problems, but number 1 is the killer....
Laptop stopped detecting Wifi. Hovering over signal bars indicates connectioins available. When trying to connect shows no connections available. Have tried cycling the (F3) wifi switch, checked updated drivers. Router is fine and was reset several times. The laptop will not detect any wifi network (all are seen by several other phones and computers). Is this a broken antenna?
When I open a new window on my Dell Precision M6600 Windows 7 64 bit professional Laptop, that window will randomly have an "always on top" attribute. The problem does not seem to be related to any specific application.
we have server at work and we trying to have a folder on ut that anyone can access. the problem is everytime you clic on the short cut it will ask you to log on to the server,
can I creat a shared folder hat doesn't require loging on every single time.
I have a Vostro 3500 with Win 7 Premium and i try boot from external hd ( i install linux in this external hd- Seagate 320 Gb) and it can't run, i think the problem is secure boot.
I bought the new DELL XPS 14 ULTRABOOK about a month ago and since then i have had recurring non stop wifi issues !
it starts, when the computer goes in to sleep mode and it "wakes up" not able to find networks.
then, it just randomly stops finding networks and disconnects in the middle of usage.
and then, the wifi card is not detected AT ALL by the device manager.
I called dell support and they replaced my WIFI card. it worked for about a week and a half give or take and now im writing this post connected to my iphone 3G network through usb cable. luckily, the iphone is not using USB 3.0 protocol or else i wouldnt be able to do even that BECAUSE THE USB 3.0 PORTS ARE NOT WORKING TOO !
Has any tried Windows 7 Pro x64 (retail) on Precision M2300 yet? I notice that Dell's website doesn't have complete drivers yet, they say to use Vista's drivers.
I am planning to do an install soon, so I want to know what is expect not to work.
I have Inspiron 3521 laptop with Windows 8 and Dell Wireless 1703 Card. After I start Windows it cannot find the wifi adapter and any wifi networks (including mine). If I reboot the Windows a few times it finds the adapter and connects to the wifi, however after 10-15 minutes Windows freezes and restarts. Is this a hardware or software problem? How could I sort this problem out?
Any documentation or instructions that I can follow to successfully install Windows 8 onto a Precision M4600 as if Dell had done a factory install?
Here are the problems I've faced with the installation I've tried to do myself:
Fan comes on high speed when screen is locked and gone blank.
Dell have not provided drivers for everything under Windows 8, which means I've got to figure out (a) which drivers I need to get from Windows 7 and (b) what order to install them in.
My HP Envy m6 laptop cannot connect to our wifi connection and only connects using the cable connection, ethernet.
It was still fine when I downloaded windows 8.1 but all of a sudden displays limited/no connectivity. I tried everything I can including resetting tcp ip settings thru command prompt, finding other drivers till someone suggested me to put my laptop back to windows 8. Still didn't fix the problem. Now, my laptop does not access wifi nor detect any wireless connection whether our home wifi, or others.
