Dell Precision M6300 :: Mobile Workstation Not Starting
Dec 27, 2014I have an M6300 Mobile Workstation that does not turn on. The green "On" indicator goes on and then the Cap Lock indicator just blinks. The screen never turns on and I never see the Dell opening splash screen when starting the computer. I have to hold the power button for over 20 seconds to turn the unit off.
What is going on with this computer especially what the blinking Cap Lock indicator means? Can I guess that it could be a hard drive problem because it tries to start, but never does and hangs with a blank screen, a Blinking Caps Lock indicator and the "On" indicator on steady?

I keep getting the error "Required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" whenever i select to install windows.
I have my 2x 250gb drives in Raid 0 but i keep getting this error all the time, any kink to a driver ?

Nov 18, 2014I own a Dell Precision M4800 Workstation running Windows 8.1 64-bit and the problem is that when I type text, no matter where (address bar, Office, iTunes, etc), and go to move my cursor immediately after, it takes about 3-4 seconds of me swiping on the touchpad to get it to move.

Dec 16, 2008I've been a diehard thinkpad fan for years and I'm looking to upgrade from my T60p. I love the build quality, but I've been reading too many issues with the FireGL V5700 in the new W500 series. Moreover, I've read good things about overclocking the Quadro M770 to get closer to the M1700 speeds. So I'm now looking at the Dell M4400, normally I abhor the chassis construction of Dells, but the all magnesium casing of the 4400 series looks very good.
First, coming from a thinkpad, will I be satisfied with the build quality of the Dell?
Second, I'll be primarily using autocad, rhino and 3ds Max and have a question about the effect of screen resolution on the acceleration of the viewport displays in the various programs. Normally, I'd get the highest resolution screen possible, but will there be significant performance degradation from sxga+ (1440x900) to the wuxga (1920x1280) display when using these viewport accelerated programs due to the more demanding resolution?
Third, considering that the system uses DD2 memory, will I be able to upgrade the cpu to other Core2 ES chips that you can find on ebay? It looks like these chips use pins, I haven't been keeping up to date with the new mobile intel chips, are they all pga rather than bga format now?
And finally, when can i except some sort of deal on these systems on either the Canadian or American sites? I've been seeing a lot of 30% deals on inspirons and xps systems, but not on the precisions.
Dell :: Looking For Input On M6400 Covet For A CAD Mobile Workstation
Feb 4, 2009From all the specs listed on this machine it should be a CAD powerhouse, however it seems that there are a number of people on the net reporting lots of driver issues when trying to run CAD software.
I'll be running things like Solidworks and some other engineering aps that use some 3D modeling and am wondering if there is any kind of a consensus yet as to weather this machine is good to go or not. This machine will be used for work, so I don't want to mess around with something that will be crashing all the time.
Is it just the Dell bloatware that is causing the issues? If I reformat and reinstall the OS how difficult is it to find all the proper (stable!) drivers to get this machine up and running again?

Followed all the instructions to the letter, but the Defender Offline media won't boot on this new W540, either on USB flash drive, or on the CD drive.

Aug 8, 2009First of all i want to say i have a dell xps 1530, Vista.
Recentrly ive reinstalled vista and now i have something strange going on.
When i got to start (i dont use button) and click on hibernate, notebook save data and when he is about to shut down, it just starts all over, the data doesnt go loss, so it starts the same as i did leave it in hibernate.
The strange thing is that, when i after this try to shut down it restarts again, so the only thing left to do for me to push the button so it just manualy shuts down.
One more thing, when i start again, and i direcly try to hibernate or shut down then it does his job, everything happens as it should be.

For example ALienware laptops are made by the ODM Clevo which also sells the same Chassis without the alienware bling and price under the name of Sager, Averatec also as I recall ....
Dell :: Fn + Z Combination Somehow Stops And Restarts The Fans
Jun 27, 2008I don't know if this is something I did or that came part of the bios in the m1710, but I have the A03 bios and I had just installed and uninstalled I8kfangui , then, after I had rebooted and tried to clean out as much as I could, I was pretty exhausted and laid my head on the keyboard. I noticed the fans stopped then came back on. I did this a couple times before figuring out that this fn + z combination somehow stops and restarts the fans, even at gaming temps. sooooo, I'm wondering, is this by chance screwing up my normal fan control, my temps, etc? Did I do something to cause this? Is it normal? or did I8kfangui do it, and why can't I get rid of it.
Another note, it doesn't work right when I boot up, only after windows is running for a couple minutes.
Dell Inspiron 17 N7110 :: Keeps Turning Off And Restarts Itself
Mar 6, 2013My Dell Inspiron 17 N7110 Keeps shutting itself down, recycling its system (I am sure I am using the wrong terminology). It will get to the dell logo screen and then go blank and restart itself. I spoke with someone at Techzilla who said that this has been happening to other people with this model. I removed the battery, tried hitting the F8, F11, F2 and F12 buttons. When I hit the F12 button the screen went to a black screen with a blinking curser in the upper right hand corner. This screen lasted about a second or two before it shuts down again and starts to recycle again. I was told that it's a software problem (that I downloaded a virus) but if others are having the same problem then I think it's a dell model issue not a software issue.

Dec 20, 2009I have a 1525 laptop that wants to stay awake most of the time. I have it set to hibernate when the cover closes. It behaves most of the time, but occasionally it decides to restart instead of hibernating. When it's acting up, it will do the restart if you try to put it in hibernation, sleep or if you try to shut it down. The only way to kill the thing is to do a hard shutdown using the power button. It's annoying to say the least, since you can't just close it and walk away. If it restarts with the cover closed, it gets way too hot.

Recently I bought transcend 4GB 1333 and have removed existing 2GB ram and replaced with 4GB to increase the physical memory to 6GB. I can see that the ram has been detected and the total is showing up in Bios. After this, the system does not boot, it just keep restarting.
I tried to start with safemode, however the files load but at the end, I receive a blue screen with error like '...Bad pool header...'.

Apr 9, 2009I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ483N with Windows Vista Business Edition SP1. For some reason, everytime i first boot up my laptop Vista will automatically restart with no error messages whatsoever.
I disabled the automatic restart option in vista and the same thing happens. However, once it's done the initial restart everything works normally and therefore i dont think it has anything to do with over-heating. I used to have windows xp pro sp3 and this did not happen

Jul 9, 2009For some reason every time I shut down my pc it restarts itself like 5 seconds after it turns off. I looked it up and someone said try unplugging the Ethernet cable. So I did and when I unplug when I shut it down it doesn't restart itself but only when I leave the Ethernet cable in it. Why is that? Also down on my currently connected icon by the clock why does it show that i'm connected to two networks? I had xp pro before and it only showed me connected to one network but on this new computer it shows me connected to two networks. Network 2 and Network 3, is that normal?

Lenovo Yoga 13 Flex :: Low Memory Warnings And Random Restarts
Jan 6, 2014 I have had my Yoga 13 for a couple of months now (I bought it refurbished from the Lenovo Outlet). It is running Windows 8.1, with 4gb of ram.
Since I upgraded to Windows 8.1, which is practically the entire time that I have had the system, I have been getting low memory warnings and software crashes related to this. When getting these warnings and crashes I am usually running IE (maybe 4 - 5 tabs) and 2-3 pdfs in Adobe Reader. It only has 4gb of ram, but in my mind, this cannot overload the memory on this system!
In fact, I just got the low memory message now ("Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: Internet Explorer") and I am only running IE (4 tabs) in the foreground. I don't think that this is an IE issue, because this problem is even worse, when I am using Chrome. That is what prompte me to switch to IE.
When I check in task manager right now, it says that I am using 81% of memory. IE is using 300mb (which seems very excessive) and there are other programs running in the background - none are using more than 50mb and most are using less than 20mb.
The other part of this problem is that when I am working normally (again with a few IE tabs open and a few pdfs open), the system randomly restarts itself, with no error message or anything. All of a sudden, the screen just shows the login screen and Windows starts as if nothing happened.

At first i thought it was me clicking the wrong button, but it has happened daily now. Only way to shut it down is my removing the power cable and then shutting down.
