I have a Latitude E6320, running Windows 7 SP 1 (64-bit). I have all the required and recommended patches installed. I generally use my laptop on a part-replicator. Recently, my laptop has been restarting when I hibernate my computer using either the on/off switch or the start button on the task bar.
View 3 RepliesI have ignored the issue as long as I can but I am too often losing my current state when I hibernate my pc.The screen powers down which makes me think that the hibernation is happening as normal. However I still see the HDD power light remaining active for say 10 minutes.
The computer then throws a blue screen of death and then powers down.When I reboot I get the message Windows did not shutdown successfully. Windows will ask me to upload the crash dump file to Microsoft but I never get any kind of feedback.This process is quite frustrating.
I have changed the Windows power settings so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernate mode. However, when I open the lid it does not start the laptop and restore from hibernation. I have to open the lid and press the power-on button and then it restores from hibernation.
I have a much cheaper Toshiba Laptop that just automatically starts and restores from hibernation when I open the lid. As far as I recall there were no special settings that I changed in order for the Toshiba to work like that, just the setting in the Windows power option that permits hibernation when closing the lid. The Toshiba run Windows 8.0.
Does this model Acer have this feature? If so, how do I set it up to work?

I have looked through the dell support info and can't seem to decide whether it's a power or post problem. None of the lights on the laptop are on and when I attach the AC battery, the battery light on the computer briefly flickers, but doesn't stay on, whilst the led on the battery itself stays on (I can't remember if this is normal). When trying to turn it on, the power led, battery led and caps lock briefly flicker and it makes a bit of noise but then shuts down after 2 seconds.

When it works, then everything works as it should, when it does not work, the keyboard is still lit up and the mouse joystick still works, but no keys work. To get the keyboard to work again I have to reboot and shutdown many times and eventually it will work again. It only stops working after shutting down or rebooting. To me it appears to be an issue with detecting at boot up. It seems it could be either an issue with the motherboard, or the keyboard so was or to get some opinions on how to narrow it down to one or the other. I should also add, that when it does not work, you can not access the bios, or anything prior to the operating system loading, so I am 100% sure its not an OS issue. I also dual boot this laptop and the keyboard does not work in either. I can plug in a usb and that works fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Dell Latitude E6320 laptop that is given by a friend, he mentioned that both laptops has been constantly hanging everytime he restart the device.
The OS for 1st laptop is Win 7 Pro SP1 and the other one is Win XP Pro SP3.
Every time i restart the laptops it will hang in the next 7 or 10 minutes. I still can move the cursor around but i can't open task manager, or any files.
I have 7 Latitude E6320, all with identic Confgiuration and same Problem. Sometimes the Laptop freezes. When this happens I can still click one to three times somewhere, move the windows and mouse, then no Application reacts anymore. I can still move the mouse. It's not possible to start Taskmanager or kill Processe via Process-Viewer. If Process Viewer runs before the Laptop hangs it shows high load at "Hardware-Interrupts" ~30%. If this happens the HD-LED is on without any blinking. The only way to get out of this is to turn the Laptop off.
There are no Errors or Warnings in System-Log (only at restart).
All Updates from DELL (Drivers, Bios) and Microsoft are installed (including SP1 for WIN7). Diagnostic boot runs without Error. the sfc command runs also without any Problems.
What can I do ?.. I want to avoid to reinstall Windows 7 & Software (32Bit) on 7 Laptops...
Is there any known Problem with this Laptop ?( In the last days a few new BIOS has been released .)
I'm attempting to enable BitLocker on a Latitude E7440 running Windows 8.1. The system is in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled, so I'd like to use Secure Boot for integrity validation. I have the appropriate GPO set, but if I try to enable the TPM protector, I get the following warning event in the BitLocker-API management event log:
BitLocker cannot use Secure Boot for integrity because the expected TCG Log entry for variable 'SecureBoot' is missing or invalid.
This is immediately followed by:
BitLocker determined that the TCG log is invalid for use of Secure Boot. The filtered TCG log for PCR[7] is included in this event.
The system therefore ends up configured with a regular platform validation profile instead of using Secure Boot. Is this a problem with the firmware on the Atmel TPM on the system, or is it something else?
When trying to put e6400 on XP SP3 to standby, the screen goes black but I am not certain the laptop is asleep. USB device lights are still lit. When trying to wake the laptop, it will not wake up and if the screen simply went dark, it will not come on. I always have to push the power button and force a reboot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Windows 7 RTM x64 on my SR19 three weeks ago. Everything is working fine except one thing, which I'm trying to fight all the time and nothing helps.
When my laptop reaches it's critical battery level it hibernates. But when I plug it in and turn it back on, Windows says "Resuming from hibernation" and loads until welcome screen, than it immediately says "Shutting down", and shuts down the computer. I have to press power button again and it successfully boots, but all of my work is lost..
As far as I understood, Windows should work normally after resuming from hibernation, even if it was hibernated due to critical power level. So what's the problem?
If I put my laptop into hibernation myself, it resumes absolutely normally and everything is working fine.
I've tried disabling "Automatically enter hibernation when..." in VAIO Control Center, and left "Critical battery level action -> Hibernate" on, this changes nothing. I've tried even uninstalling VAIO Power Management. Doesn't help.
All Windows, drivers and antivirus are updated and free of virus and/ro coruped files. Chekdisk reports no problem. cannot read Mini DUMP files. Blue screen to quick to read.

Now, After I log in to windows 7, after 20 seconds, before it initialises all the programs on the laptop, it restarts.
What can I do to stop the laptop from restarting?
I've tried a hard reset (pulling battery, unplugging power cord and holding power button for 20 seconds), then reinstalled battery, plugged in power cord and started laptop by hitting esc and checking all of the parameters listed - (running tests offered - all came back okay). I tried to do a safe restart with the F8 key, but it did not accept and went to normal startup. What am I missing?
I can't get the screen to stabilize long enough to get a lock on an icon for opening a program or the main page.
For the last several days my Dell SXPS 1645 laptop running Windows 7 Professional randomly wakes up from either Sleep mode or Hibernation mode at any time during the day. The most it seems to stay off is for ~6 hours. It does not happen when I properly shutdown the PC. I checked the task scheduler, and nothing is scheduled to run at most of the times it wakes up, and none of the tasks are set to wake up the PC if scheduled to run. In the system logs, Windows 7 recognizes that it was waked up, but the "Power-Troubleshooter" event entry looks like this:

Any idea what could be causing this? I'm positive it's not a "Wake-on-LAN" feature as that's fully disabled and I'm only using WiFi anyways. I'm not sure if this happens when the laptop is only plugged in or if it happens on battery as well. (I'm continuing to see if there's a trend on this one)
Some background info: I'm running the original Dell build on the laptop with some of the bloatware removed via Control Panel. I've modded the ATI driver to the latest Catalyst version, which does seem to record the odd event error shortly after power-on (I noticed it when checking the power on event logs)... not sure if that's related.
My Laptop automatically installed the recent windows 8 update during shutdown. After that It is not booting properly. It just restarts repeatedly.

I have wiped the hard drive and will be installing win xp pro on it.I only know noticed, in bios, that it says the cpu is running at 800 mhz and not at its proper speed of 1.73 ghz. In the bios i set it to default settings and saved it but no luck there. The bios is A06 from 2005 but i have a friend who has the very same laptop and his is running at the correct speed of 1.73 and he has the same bios so i dont thing that is the issue.

I have a problem with my Latitude E6430 i7-3720QM upgraded to Windows 8,, Bios A09, 8 core...Fan is constantly running and drying the battery out. Tem range between 60-70C. All tests from Dell webpage passed successfully. Tests from Intel Diagnostic tools passed. However, fun is always running, lap top is warm and battery goes down very quickly, in an hour. Under windows 7 it used to last much longer. I even did a clean install of Windows 8 and the problem persists
View 15 Replies View RelatedThe grill on the left side of my Latitude E6400 gets extremely warm--especially when video is playing. The bottom side of the case, on the left side, gets very warm, as well. I've been able to confirm that the fan behind the grill on the bottom side *does* run periodically; however, the grill and underside remain very warm.
How warm? Right now, after playing a video for about 15 minutes, SpeedFan reports the following temperatures: GPU (162F), HD0 (109F), Temp1 (145F), Core 0 (140F), Core 1 (142F). All of the items except HD0 have a flame icon--indicating an abnormally-high temperature. Worse, I've seen the temperatures considerably higher than the above.
I've had this laptop for about five years. The latest BIOS and drivers are installed. It's working OK, otherwise. This problem started, suddenly, perhaps a year ago.
First of all i want to say i have a dell xps 1530, Vista.
Recentrly ive reinstalled vista and now i have something strange going on.
When i got to start (i dont use button) and click on hibernate, notebook save data and when he is about to shut down, it just starts all over, the data doesnt go loss, so it starts the same as i did leave it in hibernate.
The strange thing is that, when i after this try to shut down it restarts again, so the only thing left to do for me to push the button so it just manualy shuts down.
One more thing, when i start again, and i direcly try to hibernate or shut down then it does his job, everything happens as it should be.
I have M1710 with 7950GTX that came with Vista. 4 months later, I finally got sick and tired of Vista problems, and decided to reinstall XP.
I can't install any video driver except the ones from Dells website. Laptopvideo2Go bluescreens on an install.
I tried reinstalling Windows XP (different disk, latest build). Same problem!
And if I try to use coolbits with Dell drivers, I get bluescreen as well when trying to open Nvidia control panel.
I have an Inspiron 7010 which is 2 years old. In control panel devices it tells me to troubleshoot the laptop and cannot rectify problem with Broadcom virtual wireless adaptor. Secondly running the diagnostics say the Read test is not running. These are the only problems but are not affecting the efficiency of the PC. Should I ignore it?

A couple reports on graphics malfunctions, and someone said the Sigmatel drivers were not found.
I wouldn't bother, but I have a couple development projects that require Win7.
Wondering if anyone has had good luck with Win7, and whether there are certain things to watch out for. All drivers work OK? Did you install 32-bit or 64-bit?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7. I try to turn on my computer, it goes through the Dell logo screen and comes up to a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner and will not go any further. I have pushed F2 and F12 during the Dell logo screen, but no way. I have run the diagnostics for my computer, but it reports no errors, everything passes. I have also tried hitting the F8 and Ctrl+F11 keys during the Dell logo screen, but neither of these do anything, I have the OS disc for reinstallation, but because of the computer not going past the black screen with the white blinking cursor in the upper left corner, I cannot reinstall Windows because it will not restart correctly. What do I do?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a month-old dell inspiron 5323 13z running windows 8 that stopped booting yesterday. I had a problem with booting since I got the laptop, namely the boot always stopped and had to press ctr+salt+del to continue the boot process. Dell support recommended the usual things: updating the bios, the OS, resetting the system to factory settings with no effect. Finally, I have decided I can leave this minor annoyance until know when it stopped booting at all after hybernating the system (there was no problem with hybernate before this incident).
So, it displays the dell logo for a short time when powering up, then the screen goes blank but not completely black. After pressing some keys like space a text 'f12 options' is printed in the lower right corner and en empty horizontal bar may appear. Then typing ctrl+alt+del or some random keys the boot may continue and at this point it may be possible to enter the boot menu by pressing f12. So I can change the boot option to uefi or legacy, but neither works. There is no option to boot from USB or anything else (no DVD drive anyway!). So I cannot even try to boot a linux live CD. However, i remember that these options existed before before in the boot order or priority list which is empty now. I can run the pre-boot diagnostics from the boot menu, but it does not find any problem.
