My Laptop automatically installed the recent windows 8 update during shutdown. After that It is not booting properly. It just restarts repeatedly.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've tried a hard reset (pulling battery, unplugging power cord and holding power button for 20 seconds), then reinstalled battery, plugged in power cord and started laptop by hitting esc and checking all of the parameters listed - (running tests offered - all came back okay). I tried to do a safe restart with the F8 key, but it did not accept and went to normal startup. What am I missing?
I can't get the screen to stabilize long enough to get a lock on an icon for opening a program or the main page.
I did have 10 updates that failed to install for some reason. The error code for all of these is the same (80240054) but I don't get any results on the MS site for that code.

I don't use IE and it's obviously not a Surface Pro... Why Bluetooth would go away?? My computer also ended up in Airplane Mode for some reason, but I turned that off. On the Network Window under Wireless Devices, Bluetooth shows as Off and is grayed out...
I updated my friends system to the f.20 bios - and it now comes up that the bios update did not succeed, and then it restarts.
This is an endless loop - which never lets me boot into windows - so I cannot go back to a previous version of the BIOS.
I have been reading around the forums and discovered a method to try an emergency recovery by getting the rompaq bios and holding down the Windows Key + B when I turn on the system.
Just bought an external USB Floppy drive to try this emergency recovery. I tried the USB - but it wouldn't work. I am getting different results here - but not what I want.
With the USB Floppy plugged in: When I hold down Win+B - the caps light flashes for a lot longer now, it looks like it initializes the floppy drive (green light comes on for just a moment) - but then nothing - just flashing caps lock for a bit and then finally a restart again into the doom loop. It never appears to begin to read the floppy disk or search for a bios file.
What am I doing wrong? What can I try? Does the disk need to be leabeled a certain way? Does my BIOS file need to be renamed?
I have problems with your fresh pavilion 17: after a short time good communications my Wifi interrupts - and stops all communications. The problem is to fix by restarting the computer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 (Model: 15-b022es) in which i'm tryig to install Linux. Since the day I bought it, I've been unable to boot anything directly through USB. I've searched a lot on this topic, and the usual causes are Boot devices order, Secure boot or Legacy Support options. That is certainly not the case, since I have tried all possible combinations. In fact, the exact symptoms that my laptop exhibits aren't described anywhere I've found. This being:
If I insert an USB drive in any port of the laptop, it renders the computer completely unable to boot. It's not that it freezes, it restarts again and again, but never goes beyound a black screen and making some HDD sounds (usual boot up sounds, nothing weird). Within this state, with the USB still inserted, I can access the BIOS configuration by pressing F10, but can not access boot devices menu (usually available at F9), because pressing F9 will just cause a new reboot.
In the past I accessed the boot menu by not inserting any USB and then pressing F9, then I entered the USB, entered and left some random folder to force refresh the display (and so show the USB), and finally selected my USB. This is a bit hacky, and I can no longer apply this solution, since my HDD is completely erased now and there is no folder I can enter to refresh the screen and display the usb drive.
Now the thing is: I can't manage to install any operating system back into my laptop if I can't boot from USB, so how can I do that? Right now all I get are continuous resets of the machine before even getting to the boot menu. And what is the cause for all those reset?
I have a Pavilion dv7-6b78us laptop running Windows 7 64 bit, and am unable to run windows update.
First I was getting HP Connection Manager error messages. All the message said was to check the event view to see the problem. Which, as a lay person, did not tell me what the problem was. Then I noticed that I was not getting any windows updates on this PC when my other PC was. After doing some research, I uninstalled HP Connection Manager, but this did not fix my windows update problem. I have tried running Windows Update manually from Administrative Tools but it will not start. The error message pointed to a service named Background Intelligence Transfer Service which was not running. I tried to manually start that as well and got the following message:
"Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -2147014790."
Updated pc to Windows 8.1 today and now have no sound at all and the pc says no headphones or speakers are plugged in and detection finds no problem and also the AMD 'properties' say sevice is working properly (I have no back drivers to revert back to liste)

I own a HP Pavilion G series laptop and have windows 8.1 running on it. Windows just made me finish an update after which it is not detecing my battery anymore. At first, it said: "Plugged in but not charging". Hence, I shutdown the computer, removed the battery and plugged it back in. Now it just says: "No battery is detected".
I should mention that I am not using the original battery that came with the laptop. It is an extended battery which was working fine until the update.
Now, its switching the message between: "No battery is detected" and " Plugged in but not charging"

I actually got it working once -can't remember where the driver came from--and then hp pushed out a new ralink driver and it's not worked since even though i've tried several things, including direct download from mediatek. I have Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter and just need a driver that will work. I think i have about 4 separate bluetooth stacks now--may be part of the problem--but the most recent one came from hp.

The audio on my laptop is not working. The mute stays on, even when I press the physcial keyboard button to enable sound, and try to enable sound with my mouse from the volume menu. Nothing has audio.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the HP- Pavilion g7 Notebook and have not had any problems until I was getting a Blue Screen of death after an update of Skype got on my computer. I had to do a system recovery several times until I found out this is a problem apparently caused by skype, now skype wants to update again and windows7 doesn't like it at all, the machine crashes again. Last resort, I downloaded an older verson of skype which works fine but in the long run doesn't solve the problem. If there is a fix what is it, I have not gotten any suggestions from skype, to get this resolved. The only thing I hear it might be related to some driver that has not been updated. What can I do?

I can load task manager and get to the internet. tried to get to safe mode at startup with f8 but several attempts were unsuccessful.
