View 1 RepliesI got a thinkpad w530 with Windowd 8 from the factory and its ultrabay worked really well. I use a few SSDs in the ultrabay and used to swap through them by just ejecting the one currently in use and plugging in another one. However, since Wondows 8.1 update I haven.t been able to do so, as I have to turn off the machine and change the drives.
I believe it has something to do with the OS set up. How to enable the hot swapping capability of the ultrabay?

I am having a problem when connecting my Aspire 5750G to my TV through my HDMI cable. Previously, I have always been able to go into Manage Audio Devices to choose the HDMI option but today that option has disappeared. Nothing has changed with my TV or my cable and all of my video and audio drivers are up to date.

I am facing a problem that in wireless communication a Bluetooth connection is missing and WIFI is showing there only. Recently on 26-04-2014, i have updated windows 8 completely. before updating it was working.
After updateing from windows 8 to 8.1, my HP Split 13-m010dx x2 no longer has bluetooth. Even the option in the settings is gone. I installed the new drivers with no luck either. Is there a solution other than going back to windows 8?

So, initially, I tried to turn it up, but it seemed locked. It had never done that before, so after several failed attempts, the mute sign disappeared and now it's just a red x, and when I go in to check it, it tells me that there is no sound hardware installed. I tried to install a new driver from your website but it is still not working.

I updated the latest windows update and in Hp assistant as well.
After I noticed bluetooth not working after the upgrade--doesn't even show up on device manager. I actually got it working once -can't remember where the driver came from--and then hp pushed out a new ralink driver and it's not worked since even though i've tried several things, including direct download from mediatek. I have Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter and just need a driver that will work. I think i have about 4 separate bluetooth stacks now--may be part of the problem--but the most recent one came from hp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDue to an update for the Bluetooth driver, my Laptop Inspiron N5010 has gone into a Repair Option Loop. I've visited many Forums where the primary suggestion is to deal with the RegBack folder, something I haven't tried just yet. Why? Because now I've a REAL Problem. I can't see (through Linux Live DVDs or Win 7 Installation DVD) the Document Folder. There's is a User Folder and a UserName Folder but no Document Folder. There's a Desktop Folder but the files that used to be there are no longer there.
I'm not sure if I really lost them (due to Update) or they're hidden by the system. I thought of removing the Hard Drive and connecting it to another PC to see if the Documents are still there but for this Inspiron, you need an Engineering Degree to remove the HD. Seems like the Tech people at Dell hate competition so they make it more difficult for you to mess with the computer.
There is no way to get into Safe Mode. The only option is using the Win 7 Home Premium Ed, go to repair option (which fails) and try the System Restore option. All ten Restoration Points failed.
I'm not sure if it's caused by the Windows 8 update from a few days back, but the problem started around then.
The audio on my laptop is not working. The mute stays on, even when I press the physcial keyboard button to enable sound, and try to enable sound with my mouse from the volume menu. Nothing has audio.

Now I just checked the nvidia panel and there is no option to turn on SLI. I went to device manager and only one 8800m gtx is listed there when there used to be 2... seems like the computer doesn't even see the second GPU.
tried reinstalling the drivers but still only one gpu is showing up...

I have updated my HP Pavilion G6 2242sf to Windows 8.1 and the sound quality is not as good as in Windows 8 : In the Dolby control panel the equalizer works but switch the Dolby Advanced Audio checkbox has no effect so there is no more surround virtualization and the 3 effects "Movie", " Music", and "Voice" are not working anymore.Now my laptop speakers sounds choppy.

All is OK, except the equalizer function in Dolby Advanced Audio V2 is no longer working. You can still move the equalizer sliders but the actual sound quality remains the same. It just sounds flat as if all sliders are permanently set at zero.

The Win7 that it came with also had lenovo energy management through which I could toggle the WLAN and bluetooth on and off. Since I never used the bluetooth, I turned it off via energy mgmt.
Also interestingly, when I was running Win7 I had it dual boot with Ubuntu. And if my Bluetooth was turned off via EM from win7... bluetooth wouldn't be recognised in ubuntu and there was no way of turning it back on... I had to boot back into win7 and turn it on via EM and boot back into ubuntu.
Recently I updated to Win8.1 but hadn't turned on the bluetooth before doing so. In Win8.1 the bluetooth device is not recognised anywhere..not in PC settings(metro UI), not even in device manager. I tried to install the energy management for 8.1 from the support site but it was extremely buggy and didnt find any option to turn on bluetooth. The old EM didnt install properly in comaptibilty mode.
In ubuntu now (dual boot with win8.1) its still the same. Bluetooth not regonised just as before.
I cannot go back to win7 now. There is no proper EM for win8.1. There is no option in BIOS regarding bluetooth. How do i turn on the bluetooth adapter?
Windows Update just offered me a new IDT High Definition Audio Driver for my dv5t. I decided not to install it yet. Has anybody tried it? What version is it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I updated from the Windows 8.1 evaluation to the full 8.1 release and since then my audio has not been working. In the control panel, "Digital Display Audio (AMD High Definition Audio Device)" is listed as unplugged. The audio icon on the taskbar is Xed out and clicking it runs the error finder in vain. Speakers no longer show up in the device listing although now that nothing is working I'm not sure if they ever did or if audio just came through Digital Display Audio. Headphones do not show up as playback devices and the volume controls on the keyboard and taskbar are inaccessible.
I have never used external speakers. The Windows 8.1 update seemed to wipe all of my HP and AMD software that came with the laptop so I reinstalled the HP Support Center and searched for driver updates and all that jive but everything shows as up to date. I don't know what else to look for as most of the forums I've seen seem to be talking about their HDMI out sound not working when plugged into a TV and I'm just trying to have sound, period.

My notebook restarted itself to make updates, once i logged on i found that the sound is not working on music files, web pages etc. other than the windows sound. The other thing i noticed is that the mute button will not go off or on? i tried to troubleshoot but nothing..I found that left clicking my sound icon and clicking on playback devices and then left clicking speakers and headphones and clicking 'Test' led to a pop up; "Device in Use.The device is being used by another application. any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again." I have checked everywhere but i can't find the device being used anywhere? I'm not willing to lose by Beats Audio.

I have the Envy 15 which came pre-installed with Win8. When the 8.1 update came out I installed and now can't get any audio when connecting via HDMI to my TV although image is there.
I've ensured all the drivers are updated AFAIK, but in the Device Manager I get the highlighted, obviously as above, the cable is plugged in.
All was working fine prior to the update and I have also used 4 different cables, which are all fine as I also have an old Compaq laptop which is still running Win8 allows audio via HDMI.
I have an Aspire V5-571G... I updated to Windows 8.1 (64bit) a few days ago.
Since the update, when playing audio on iTunes (was 11.3 but now updated to 11.4 both post win 8.1 anyway)/Windows Media Player and on YouTube & other sites, audio has stopped working completely or become extremely distorted. Sometimes it works fine but never for extended periods of time. I'm not sure what triggers the distortion and silence but it has ONLY been happening since the 8.1 update.
I updated the RealTek sound drivers with the driver for my model from the Acer website and it has not improved the situation. I've been looking around for a solution / cause of the problem and the only questionable driver I have is this: There's no update for this on the Acer site r.e. my model and the Windows online update thing cannot find an update either.
If it's not possible to fix this via updating or tweaking 8.1, is it possible to do a system restore back to Win 8 without removing my files and if so how?
After upgrading to Windows 8.1 x64 bit, my bluetooth is not detecting and cannot be detected by other devices (my mobile phone). In device manager, I have NO yellow triangles with exclamation marks, when I search automatically for updates, windows says everything is up to date (see picture below) so everything seems fine and running. Bluetooth is on but after searching does not find devices (even if the phone is also on bluetooth).
