Dec 21, 2009I have studio 1555, I have Windows 7 with that.
when I tried to install XP on that my Recovery drive for Windows 7 is deleted by mistake...
how can I get it back?

Jan 24, 2014I bought a Y500 a few months ago and I bought a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD along with it. Mine didn't come with the 16GB mSATA SSD for caching so I decided to replace the original 1TB HDD with a 256GB SSD. I also had a copy of Windows 8 Professional that I bought for my desktop. Since I wasn't using my desktop anymore I decided to move 8 Pro to the Y500. And it wouldn't let me format and reinstall, I'd get an error saying "The product key does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key."
I cloned my HDD on to an SSD with Acronis True Image Home. Then I stuck the SSD in my laptop and then selected repair my computer after booting into the 8 Pro disc. And from there I selected the option to reset my PC. Then once it reset it became extremely fast and stuff. And from the add features to Windows 8 option I entered the Productkey I got with 8 Pro and it allowed me to upgrade. Then once the 8.1 update came out I updated immediately.
Now for the last few days my laptop has been getting laggy. So I decided to reset it again. And now when I try to it says that the required recovery partition is missing, I don't recall deleting any of the partitions I cloned the drive perfectly and had also been able to reset it once before. Anyway, now my 1TB HDD is inside my PS3 and I'm stuck with a laggy Y500 that takes 20 seconds to boot up on an SSD and I'm trying to figure out a way out of this mess. Is it possible to get recovery discs?. My Y500 is the model that has a single NVIDIA 2GB GT750 and an intel core i7 3632QM.

Mar 5, 2015I bought an Acer Aspire 5520 few years ago. It has a partition with Windows Vista installed on that. Unfortunately that partition is deleted completely so I can not recover my laptop to its factory setting.
Is there anyway that I can install that original windows Vista again? I looked behind my laptop and there is a label with a product key. Is that useful?

Aug 22, 2014The hard drive on HP G62t-350 CTO Notebook was failing. I was able to create a recovery USB in the Recovery Manager. I installed a new 120 GB SSD. The original hard drive was larger, can't remember now but 250 or 500 GB. I know the Recovering the System after the Hard Drive is Replaced (Windows 7) says "To avoid problems, install a hard drive as large or larger than the replaced hard drive," but that's a question for later.
Computer booted fine from USB (in fact, is set to boot from USB if present by default). Recovery Manager starts. I choose minimal install. It goes through the process of partitioning the SSD and copying files. Then says to remove external media and reboot, computer will reboot several times during the process, blah, blah, blah. I pull out the USB and reboot, but after POST I get "No bootable media present".
If I try to reboot leaving the USB in, it boots to USB and we're back at the beginning. I am able to confirm with a rescue disk that the SSD has one NTFS partition that has had Windows files copied to it, and a large amount of unallocated space. (Something like 60%/40%.)
How do I make the hard drive bootable, and if it were bootable, would the recovery process complete?What's going on with the partitions? Is it creating the recovery partition first, and then after boot the recovery partition installs the OS? If so, I might have to abandon this process because since I'm moving to smaller storage, I don't want to devote half of the drive to a recovery partition.

I have been getting a random blue screen popping up every once and a while, that will "dump my physical memory" or something and then reboot itself after like 30 seconds. my hard drive was the reason for these constant errors. So I backed everything up, in preparation of a real crash. I am in the process of ordering a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is hard to replace a hard drive in a notebook, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. Oct 25, 2014I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.

Jul 1, 2008my seagate freeagent desktop 500 gb external hard drive decided to go tits up on me today. i know it isnt a dell specific question, but i fine the dell owners are generally the smartest people
anyways, all my pictures are on there... ya, i know i should have back ups, and believe me i am kicking myself right now, and i actually did back it up, and thought i was ok, but i guess i formatted that drive a bit ago and forgot to replace the backed up stuff.
it was making a faint clicking sound and wasn't seen by my laptop at all, so i began doing research and found out the light sometimes does something so disconnecting it most likely would fix it. i took it apart and disconnected the light, no joy... so i took it completely apart and plugged it directly into my desktop, and it made that faint clicking sound... so, now i assume the actual drive is really bad, but i have never had a hd fail on me so completely, so who knows?

Jan 8, 2009I am trying to clean up my HP DV9000 laptop because my C: drive was down to 15.2g of free space. The HDD is supposed to be 120g and I know you can't use the full storage capacity but between my C: drive and the D: drive (Hp Recovery drive) I only have a total of 92.04g worth of drive space. That's a total of 27.96g of space I am losing.
So what I am wondering is if I can delete the D: drive so that my C: drive has more storage capacity. I am taking up digital photography and I need to make a partition for my Photoshop scratch disk and want to gain as much space as I can.

Dell Inspiron 1545 :: How To Boot From Recovery Partition On Cloned Drive With Vista
Dec 8, 2014My uncle has a Dell Inspiron 1545 with 3Gb RAM, 160 Gb HD and Windows Vista Home Premium. On boot up there is an error message stating that a back up should be performed immediately as the hard drive has a serious problem.
The good news is that I managed to make a clone of the 160 Gb HD to a 1000 Gb HD (Western Digital Blue) using Paragon software before the original drive failed. The bad news is that the cloning process stopped at 42%, but this 42% included the recovery partition and another part of the HD called Dell Utility.
I installed the cloned WD drive and pressed F8 on boot up, but the advanced boot menu did not appear. Instead I get the error message 'no bootable devices'.
I ran the diagnostics program using F5. All the tests were completed and 'passed'. The BIOS recognizes the new drive as 1000 Gb.
Question: how do I boot the laptop? My uncle does not have any recovery media.
