View 8 RepliesI installed some windows updates to my computer. The next time I turned on my computer it didn't act normal at all. It went to a start-up repair screen which scanned for a long time only to tell me "start-up repair cannot fix this computer" so I shut down and left my computer. I called Dell's support line and talked with technical assistance, the guy had me run some tests and in the end told me that there was nothing wrong with the hard drive and that it was my systems software that was the problem. didn't wanna restore at that point because wanted to save my pictures.
I ended up taking the hard drive out, transferring pictures onto my brothers computer and then I did a full system restore ( by tapping f8, choosing repair my PC, then choosing "Dell data safe restore and emergency backup" in the system recovery options screen. ) This actually worked and I restored my computer, however after installing updates again (quite a few too, when I shut down my computer it said installing update 1 of 72?! )
My computer went back to the start up repair screen and did the same thing as before. restored my computer one more time, and now again after updates were installed my computer will not work correctly. I do have the windows product key under the battery but would like to know how I can fix this problem. Will have to reinstall my windows software?
I was updating some drivers yesterday and I accidentally uninstalled dobly home theater one way or another, and I have been searching the internet far and wide for a download but I could not come across one. When I go into the dolby tab it says I have dolby digital plus, and I can press the blue power button to turn it on, but I cannot select movie, game, or music as they are not there.

Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, then click OK. I cannot get past here.

View 15 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Vostro 3450 (windows 7) had been running slowly for a while and after a virus scan didn't work, I decided to reinstall my operating system. I used the OS reinstall disk that came with the computer and that seemed to work pretty well. However, when it came time to install the drivers, I hit a roadblock. I put in the drivers disk and tried to go through the list of what drivers to install first (DSS, then chipset, etc...) but each time I installed something, it didn't seem to do anything-- I would go through the whole process for each one, but the little check mark wouldn't appear next to it in the "My System" list.... See below:
My computer can't connect to the internet either by ethernet or wifi, and can only input info through the cd drive.
When i bought my laptop it have windows 8 but i disliked it and have many bugs on my games so i installed windows 7

I not been able , but when i boot my lapto using Windows XP CD it copies the required files but when i press ENTER to install Windows XP the message appears that " Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacture supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3." Please note I have C: drive installed windows vista on it, i have drive D: files are available for recovery disk pre-installed by the windows vista or manufacturer. My lapto is ACER MODEL 4320. Please advise how to install how to install the operating system on this computer.

I just recieved my new Studio 17. I noticed that there's a lot of trial software on it that I don't want.
Also, I want to partition the drive.
I know that there's a recovery partition on the HD. If I partition and reinstall, will the recovery partition still be there. Will it still work down the road if I need it?
Also, if I reinstall Windows 7 and the drivers and utilities, will it be the same as what I have now?
I finally fixed all my problems (kinda) I have sound, wireless card, can go stadby hibernate, ethernet device works etc etc, Don't know how I did it because I went to so many different sites and google it thousand times!!!
I've noticed that sometimes you can't get the right drivers from dell even with the service tag number, I got some drivers from dell, but not from my specific model drivers download page!
The only problem I have now is that my hotkey: fn+esc don't work, it doesn't put my computer into standby like it should, the other hotkeys work just fine, Anyone know why? I also would like to get an older version of quickset because the new version that I got now I don't like it, its 7.1.8, I've been looking for the version that came with my computer from the factory but I don't know what version is! I liked that one better.
I am trying to format my C drive and have a fresh installation of the operating system on my Inspiron 1460, which I bought 3 years back. Steps that I am following:
1. Insert Re-installation DVD for Windows 7 Home, provided by Dell
2. Power off machine
3. Power on machine
4. While it is starting press F12, and select CD/DVD and press Enter
5. "press any to key read from cd/dvd" appears, press Enter
6. System boots up
7. Install now button appears, click it
After this it is asking for a driver cd/location to install. I have a driver software cd which is also not recognized.
I got problem with dell laptop, its 2 year old laptop which got stuck on Starting Windows screen ,not able to proceed further.
After checking several posts I tried all the options but it dint work. I tried running diagnostic , I got error message
Error Code: 0f00:1332
hard drive 0 self test log contains previous error.
I run the custom Test and I got this same message .in the custom window where is shows Result I checked the Help tab where I got this message
SATA Hard disk
Disk Drive stores large quantities of computer software and data. The contents of disk drive is preserved when computer is powered off.
Is there any problem with hard disk ?? Is it corrupted ?? Do I need to Replace it ??
My HHD is completely broken. I've bought a new one.
Where I can take a genuine copy of Windows 7 Home basic for installation? May be I can download image of restore partition for this model?
I'm thinking of upgrading to windows 8 directly from vista home edition and since the drivers aren't available. So how do I go about it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows XP/Vista Reinstall Guide for Dell 17" Laptops
Specifically made for the XPS M1710
Also works for the Inspiron 9400/E1705, 1720, XPS M1730, Precision M90 and M6300, see *NOTE* below
Guide Version 1.20 (Last Updated: 5-20-2008)
I've gotten probably about 15-20 requests on a guide with the drivers I personally use for my XPS M1710 for reinstalling Windows, since I have both an XP-dedicated M1710 and a Vista-dedicated M1710. So... I finally got around to posting it for everyone to see, and it includes some things that some people don't know about... It was originally going to be just what drivers to use, but instead, I morphed it into a full reinstall guide, as there are some things in here alot of people don't know about.
I'm splitting this guide into two parts. The first being for Windows XP, and the second being for Windows Vista. Both are similar in ways, but its better to do it in 2 different sections, to avoid any confusion. I'm not posting a guide for Windows x64, as I unfortunately do not have a copy of it in either XP or Vista form, and most people on the forums don't use it, so this guide is sticking to the 32-Bit versions of the respective OSes.
*NOTE*Inspiron 9400/E1705 - Exchange the Gigabit Ethernet drivers outlined below for the Broadcom 10/100 drivers on the Dell Downloads site for the Inspiron 9400/E1705.
Inspiron 1720 - Exchange the Gigabit Ethernet drivers outlined below for the Broadcom 10/100 drivers on the Dell Downloads site for the Inspiron 1720. Also, exchange the Modem drivers for the one specifically for your laptop. If you have a Webcam, add that software in as the last "driver" installed before moving to the next step.
XPS M1730 - Exchange the Modem drivers for those specifically for the XPS M1730. If you have a Webcam, add that software, along with the "Logitech GamePanel" software, in as the last "driver" installed before moving to the next step.
Precision M90 - Procedure should be the same as that for the XPS M1710, including all drivers.
Precision M6300 - Exchange the Modem drivers for those specifically for the Precision M6300, and also add in the fingerprint reader software (if wanted/needed) as the last "driver" installed before moving to the next step
For the newer (Inspiron 1720, XPS M1730, Precision M6300) model laptops, you MUST DISABLE AHCI (change the setting from AHCI --> ATA) in the BIOS in order to proceed with installation of the Operating System without issues, otherwise the installation WILL FAIL......................
I am using an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 which I upgraded to Windows 8 after partitioning my hard drive (two accessible drives c: and d:). The restore partition was left intact.
Due to a software incompatibility I am going to have to restore back to Windows 7, and I hope to use the Dell restore utility.
My question is: If I use the utility will my D drive data (backed up files etc) also be wiped, or will just the C drive be reformatted?
I am trying to reinstall Windows 8 on my Inspiron 15Z 5523. I recently got the restore media from Dell with a Windows 8 install disk, but the disk does not have drivers present to access the hard drive/SSD array. Every time I try to install it, it says there is a driver missing.
I originally had tried to restore the system, and I reformatted the hard drive with Dell's utility, but then I ran into a problem because the Dell utility to create recovery media only produced one disk (it did not give me the system image, so I had nothing to restore).
I cannot get Windows 8 reinstalled (nor any other version of Windows) on it. What do I need to do to load the HDD/SDD RAID Drivers on the computer to install Windows?
I bought DELL Inspiron 15r N7520 a year back with windows 8 in it, since then I am continuously facing multiple issues , I updated my windows 8 to 8.1 so it was asking for key I searched a lot but never found any sticker on laptop or any CD , I found no way to go back so I tried installing another windows by boot and while doing so I face so many problems at last I went to command prompt diskpart and CLEAN ALL . It removed each and everything I have no way to recover refresh or any other. No option seems to be working for me. And even I don't have dell backup and recovery. If I try to insall windows8 by DVD it gives an error of key doesn't match . Is there any way to install windows without sending my laptop to Dell ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had been using my DVD/Bluray drive but after a reinstall of windows 7 I am not able to access the DVD / Bluray drive. or rather I am able to access it after re-installing the driver and then after I take out the disk in the drive again the drive becomes unrecongnizeable
I reinstalled the firmware PLDS DS-6E2SH 12.7 Tray BD-Combo Firmware Update(SE2_CD11.zip ) from Dell support site but this did not work.
The only way I can get it to work is by uninstalling the device, rebooting and when it starts up again, it reinstall the driver and the drive works. A thing to note is that this also does not work every time.
My xps was having start-up issues and when trying to run the Vista Start-up Repair disk I received an error:
'The instruction at 0x7336e159 referenced memory at 0x00000076. The memory could not be read. Press CANCEL to terminate the program'.
Then at re-boot I accessed the boot menu and ran a PSA Diagnostic and received the following error code while scanning the processor memory:
' ERROR CODE: 0142 MSG: Error 2000-0142 MSG: Hard Drive 1-Self Test unsuccessful STATUS: 79'.
I have installation disks as follows:
Dell Drivers and Utilities for XPS M1530, Dell Windows Vista Home Premium 32BIT Reinstallation DVD, Dell Media Direct 3.5 for XPS Reinstallation Disk.
What can I do?
I have a Latitude E6410. Hard Drive crashed. Bought a new HD, installed and installed Windows 7 Home Premium. Got no wireless. Looking at Device Function I see no driver for:
Broadcom USH
Network Controller
Unknown Device
What drivers do I need and where to find??
I just received replacement media to install win 7 on Inspiron N5110. The install is failing with a general Windows install message, restarts computer to complete setup then errors again. I ran the diagnostics again and the memory is getting this error:

I have a XPS 17. The trackpad worked well. Then I formatted and reinstalled Windows 7 64bits Home Premium. But the Trackpad doesn't work. I can move the mouse, click etc. but the multiouch doesn't work. I can't scroll.

I tried to recover my PC to factory settings using the CD's that I had created with OneTouch Recovery software. However the recovery failed - perhaps due to scratches in the disk.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had a problem with my old windows vista, and cannot restart windows. I put in a brand new 500hd. The windows 7 goes through the whole install procedure, but the last step "completing installation", it does not complete, but locks up. I have tried several times, and even removed the cd before the final restart, to have it search the HD for start-up soft ware, as I have read, but nothing works.
