Oh, and does anyone know when there'll be new colours for the studio 16? =)

any chance that apple will put some of the new graphics cards in the macbooks/macbook pros?
Modded BIOS 1.27 for Aspire TM 3810.
Version with Intel/Ati/Switchable options in Switchable Graphics menu:
ftp://ftp.ad1ced.ru/JM31.127_SLIC.zip
Extended version with additional unlocked options:

Don't forget to change User Access Level to see all options
advan20092 is AWESOME!
Just to explain how awesome this modded BIOS is: It enables a new INTEL-ONLY graphics setting in the BIOS for the TG models. This disables the ATI chip entirely, basically making the Switchable Graphics TG models act like the T models, which "fixes" the bug where both graphics chips are active after a Resume from Standby.
This gives 3810TG owners the promised battery life of 8+ hours. One caveat - it disables the HDMI port. For HDMI you have to use Switchable or ATI-ONLY modes.
I have come to grips with the fact that my E6400 (see specs below) has idle temps of around 42 for both CPUs and around 62 for the GPU (while docked).
While these are not dangerous, and while the slow fan speed is very quiet and therefore doesn't bother me, I refuse to accept defeat so easily.
So, I am thinking of replacing the thermal paste and possibly the thermal pad on my E6400. There is at least one person here at the Latitude/Precision sub-forum who did that, with amazing results
i have a question for everyone who has removed the heatspreader from an acer 6920g. Did the northbridge made contact with the heatspreader by a thermal pad or by a thermal paste ? mine had something that looked like a thermal pad but when i tried to remove it , it tore into small pieces ( i know a thermal pad is not like that ). i used a thermal paste when i put everything back together. Should i open it up again and use a thermal pad for the northbridge ?. In everst in the sensor menu it shows 42 degrees celsius for the motherboard sensor ( i assume that is the northbridge).

the first one is the graphics card.. i have 4 options...
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD With Express Card
Mobile Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD with PC-Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With Express Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With PC-Card
i would assume that the following cards have different perfomances, but what is the difference between a Express card and a PC card... and what is the better one to have?
And what card would be better for some gaming.. "i am a command and conquer addict"...
i would like to know if somebody use or try this kind of fan pad usb with a dell xps 1530? ...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI checked out the service manual, to read up on disassembly. Thinking about opening my notebook up and removing the heat pads and replacing them with copper shims to reduce heat. that is, unless someone can find a way to downclock the GPU for cooling purposes... But I'd like to get it cooler so the fan won't have to run all the time.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy friend has a 15'' unibody Macbook Pro. He's thinking about getting a cooling pad for it, and he asked me for suggestions. I said that I really couldn't advise him as Macbooks aren't built like regular laptops with the fans on the bottom. Even still, would a traditional active cooling pad lower temperatures by any significant amount, or would it not be worth it. I would usually advise anyone who asks to get a large all metal cooling pad, but if it's not going to do that much, I don't want him to waste his money.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI received my XPS 1530 a few days ago and I'm happy with everything except for the factory supplied fingerprints on the lid. I tried using screen wipes and Windex - but I can't remove the fingerprints. Has anyone else successfully removed fingerprints, and if so, what did you use?

Is it possible to remove the optical drive from the XPS M1330 and put some sort of plastic placeholder there instead? Being able to fit an extra battery or hard-drive would be great, but I can settle for some plastic.
So Dell has taken up two partitions.
1) around 10GB for the factory image
2) around 200MB for something else which I dont know...
I have another windows partition
so that makes 3 primary partitions.
But now I wanna install linux , but I don't want to loose the factory image ( so that i can do a manual restore later on )....
How do you suggest you do this apart from taking the keys off/taking apart the laptop? I've been going with blowing using my mouth and sucking using a vacuum cleaner, but the larger bits stay ...

I have an InspironR Special Edition 7520 and my AMD 7760 2GB will not activate or do any graphics processing. It is stuck on the Intel Graphics. I am running windows 8.
-My laptop is set on high performance and is plugged in.
-I ran NovaBench and it used the intel graphics card
-FurMark detected Intelgraphics as my main graphics card
-I ran a small game called "Slender: The Arrival" on the lowest settings it could barely handle it
-During the game and the graphics run I had Catalyst Control Center Up and it showed 0% usage of the graphics card, indicating it failed to switch
- All the drivers are up to date, per the windows solution and from downloading them from the AMD website.
I would like a solution to either, have the switch start working, or to change a setting so only the graphics card is constantly used. If this does not work I fear I'll have to return the laptop for faulty hardware.
And if so, shut down completely, put to sleep or hibernate, etc?

Is there a free way of removing it that isn't super complicated?

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe LCD on my 700m quit working after I dropped it. But OK on external monitor. Got new screen on eBay. Part # slightly different but that's moot now.
After hooking up the two cables to new screen and putting battery back in, I pressed START button. The light would come on for a few seconds and then blink off, accompanied by a faint click. The data cable to screen got very hot in just a few attempts to start up.
Now nothing works (no more blinks and clicks) with either LCD, on either battery or mains. At this point I would be happy just with external monitor. Had I tripped an thermal overload device, and is there a reset button?
I'm working on my friend's old 9300(It still has the factory Dell image installed)
This thing has been on probably 75% of it's life. I want to pull is apart, remove the dell thermal compound, and replace it with ICD7 thermal compound,
but I am afraid that after so long the dell stuff will have hardened to the point of breaking things as I try to remove the heatsinks.
