This is interesting... a friend of mine just tried to order the SXPS with the i7-820 processor and got denied by Dell. Apparently, the 1645 has been fully discontinued, and Dell will no longer be placing the i7-820 processor in any SXPS form factor. They quoted that due to hardware and power issues as the reason behind discontinuing the 1645 (and replacing it with the 1647) and killing i7-820 support. The sales rep said the only offering will be the Studio series for the i7-820.
As a 1645 owner with the i7-820, this is kinda scary that this laptop has been discontinued this quickly as well as the offering of the 820 series chip. We ended up calling a second time, and another sales rep confirmed the same story.
Anyone get similar information from Dell on this? I'm also wondering if this is a "Dell Canada" thing...
Since DELL replacing my mobo I have had no wifi / hdd lights on my XPS13.
I am wondering if he didn't put a wire back or some drivers need to be reinstalled?
turning on then turning off? When I turn it on, the LED lights come on for seconds and then go off. I replaced the motherboard and the processor and its still the same problem. I also took out the RAM and had the same problem?
What else could be causing it? The graphics card?
I recently did a manula reformat of my M1730 and everything works fne but having a problem with the light FX.
I set them to sapphire blue using quick tune but when ever i restart the machine or fire it up for the first time the light are different. The left speaker is orange and the right one and touch pad are crimson red.
Then has soon has it boots into windows they will go back to my setting of sapphire blue.
Do they have to be set in the bios or somewhere else in order to always have them the colour i picked even when restarting?
I replaced my Inspiron 9400 motherboard with M1710 XPS motherboard. The palmrest, lcd cover, hinge cover, front speakers,is M1710 parts. The only parts not XPS M1710 is the standard non led cpu and video fans which I borrowed from my Inspiron 9400.
The cpu and the video fan is borrowed from my I9400.Non LED.Could this be the cause?
My M1710 backcover,M1710 touchpad, and the front speakers do not light on.Eevn when the system is booting up in bios.
I already checked all connections and have the above all above
enabled in bios.
I suffer from migraine that is triggered by changes in luminosity and blinking lights.
I am now reading the review by justGoIt of the M1730 on the Dell website: it talks about "bling bling lights". (This link points to the product, then you have to click on reviews.)
Does anybody know what lights are they?
can they be turned off?
are they bright?
where are they positioned?
or can they just be covered with a sticker?
anyone at all been able to light up the cover lights (just one of the colors even) for those who have done the 9400/E1705 to M1710 mods? I would really like to know how this can be done if there are some theories out there. Please refrain from saying how much you hate the lights or asking why I would care to do this :
Some methods I thought about trying:
USB port: 5V ok, will that work with the cover LEDs?
Fan port: I have heard this one might not work but can anyone confirm?
(I am talking about cutting off the connector that would originally go into the M1710 mobo and trying various things with the wires that happen to be color coded, 2 for each color of LED apparently.)
i recently reinstalled windows on my Dell XPS M1730 but i have some problems. For some reason the lights on the lid of the case (the ones on top lol) dont come on anymore.
To get them on i have to open dell quickset and turn them off and then on again, then they will stay on, but after shutting down and booting back up they are still off. Anyone know what the problem could be?
Also another issue im having is that when i turn on the laptop my left speaker light is orange. I changed it in quickset to be blue but still during booting its orange and then once the laptop is fully booted it turns to blue. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Is this the backlight? i hot glued the connector and wires in the socket into the inverter....?
I have replaced the inverter AND the flex cable (yes, the part numbers are right)
I have to shake or pressure point the left-middle of the screen for it to stop otherwise it stays unreadable...
when i hook it up to an external monitor...
I know it's kinda dumb but it's annoyingly bright when I've got the computer on at night and it's busy converting video or doing other work. It's also less power used.
It can't be done through software but has anyone physically unplugged them? I've not opened up the case yet so I don't know how practical that would be, thought I'd ask around first.
I feel like the keyboard on my SXPS13 was MUCH brighter than the keyboard on my SXPS16.
I also had an icon pop up on the RHS of the screen that told me the keyboard light level (it would pop up when changing intensity 'off', '1', and '2').
I don't have an icon pop up on the 16, and the keyboard looks much dimmer overall.
my dell inspiron 1420 has blinking led lights whenever plugged in it wont boot.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm unable to boot my Inspiron 15R SE laptop. There are no response from the laptop when I pressed the power button. No LED lights, no disk noise ! The only thing I noticed is the power cable light goes out immediately when plugged into the laptop.
I have tried taking the battery and power cable out , hold the power button for 30 seconds , place battery and power cable back then tried rebooting but laptop still won't boot...
I have what seems to be a common problem with my laptop .. laptop turned on and went off . No charge lights and wont turn on. When I plug the charger in the green charging light goes out !!!
Im taking it to be motherboard .. How do I go about sourcing a new motherboard and getting the right graphics with it etc.
I have a studio 14z that has been sitting for approximately 5 - 6 months without being connected to a power adapter or turned on. Needless to say, when I tried to power it up via the battery, there was nothing there. Pushing the button on the bottom of the battery does not cause any lights to flash.
This doesn't surprise me, but even if I plug it into it's AC adapter and take the battery out, it will not power on. Nothing happens. No lights (except on the power adapter) no fans spinning, nothing. If I have the battery in place, the light that is supposed to indicate that the battery is charging does not turn on. Basically it is "dead". It worked fine before sitting dormant.
Is it a lost cause? I just had it apart to check cabling, etc. and can't see anything obvious. Is there anyway to wake it up? I know the power adapter works as it powered another laptop just fine.
My daughter's 1749 laptop shut itself off and now when you plugin the power adapter, the light over the plug on the laptop blinks three times. It will not power on at all.
I have replaced the power jack in the laptop as well as the cpu and tried different known-good ram but nothing makes any difference. What does the light over the power jack blinking three times indicate?
I recently changed the screens on my laptop without difficulty. The next day i went to classes and brought my laptop since it was now fixed. When i went to turn it on it was very dark and i couldn't adjust the brightness. I couldn't get pass the log on screen so i held down the power button but it would not turn off so i took out the battery. I put the battery back in and left the laptop alone till i got home. I thought that the problem with the screen was a wire came loose or something of that nature so i took apart the screen and made sure everything was plugged in. I put it back together and put the battery back in and went to turn it on to see if the screen problem was resolved and it wouldn't boot or anything. I don't get any beeps, fans, or lights that turn on.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is the second time I have had this issue. I have already had the motherboard and power supply/cable replaced and it worked for awhile. Here is the issue.
- Occasionally after powering down, the next time I try to power up, the laptop does nothing but show the power light on. No Dell screen, no back lights on the keyboard, nothing else. I press and hold the power button down and after 5 seconds it shuts the light off. I would then try it again with the same result. I let the battery completely drain; plug the power cord back in and after about 5 minutes of charging, try it again. This seemed to work until one day it did not. Then I had the motherboard and power supply replaced and all seemed well. Now, 6-8 weeks later I have the same problem again. A new L421X purchased in December 2012 with 512GB SSD running Windows 8 64 bit. I use this for business and am about to throw it out the window.
Currently, I have tried the power up, drain power trick with no results. It is dead with all my business info on the drive. I am about to dump Dell and switch to HP.
Anything I can do short of a whole new machine?
My old latitude had keyboard backlights, which I loved, but I can not seem to find out if my new Laditude has them and, if so, how I activate them.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently have had a problem with my Dell XPS M1530. The laptop crashed from what I presume was it overheating. When I switch it back on the screen lights up white with no display. I am able to use the laptop through an external display (pressing FN F8) however the quality is very poor, this is surprising as I used to use an external display frequently at a high quality and I am now unable to change the screen resolution in the display settings. I have also noticed that I can no longed put the laptop into 'sleep' mode. How the two errors could be related but both happened after the same crash.
I have tried to recconect the video cable but unfortunately it didn't work.
Any simple fix to this problem or if the GPU or screen needs to be replaced?
I currently have a dell xps 17 laptop. It will not switch on properly.
When I power it on, the lights flash on as normal, and some of the fans appear to start (although the side fan does not appear to work). The cd drive will open when I press the button, and the touch buttons light up on contact as normal.
However, the screen does not switch on at all. The laptop will stay on but nothing will happen. The side fan does not appear to be working either (i cant hear it, and that area gets VERY hot when plugged in).
I am currently on holiday and do not have an hdmi cable to test it on an external display (though I could maybe buy one).
I have tried fully charging and depleting the battery, I have tried removing and reinserting the coin cell battery and the memory.
So I have a Dell XPS M140 and the blue lights for the Media Direct buttons are much brighter than those on my Inspiron E1405..

View 1 Replies View RelatedFew days ago My laptop start to not turning on. I have replaced ram but it doesn't work.
I have blinking light. When I am turning laptop on, POWER LED turn on and turn off after 4-5 sec, after this BATTERY LED turning on and off after 1 sec. When I am turning on laptop holding FN key, hapends the same but in meantime NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK and SCR LOCK is turning on and off after 5 sec.
I can't find error codes for this laptop anywhere.
My Dell Inspiron 14 1440 froze and i decided to manually turn it on and back on. I pushed, and held the power button until it turned off. Once it turned off i decided to take the battery out (for no apparent reason). So i took it out and put it back it (i didn't really touch anything). Once i put it back in i tried turning it on by pressing the power button, but it wouldn't turn on. The screen is black, there are no blue lights that are on. (These lights are on when you turn the laptop on).I tried the taking out the battery and hold power button for 30-60secs trick, but no luck. I also have taken out my laptop's ram and re-inserted it (same with my hard drive). Oh and my battery is fully charged. I tried searching the net for solutions but no one really has the same problem as me. Most of the other people with problems said they could hear the fan, but with mine there is noting. No sound. No lights. No working laptop just one really expensive door stop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell N5110 is about 14 months old - Windows 7, 650GB HD, 8GB RAM (originally 6GB before I upgraded the memory chip). Up until about 2/2/13, I was able to turn it on, put it in hibernation, etc., but suddenly, I could not turn it on (I had it plugged in overnight, perhaps it was in Sleep mode). I saw no lights, no beeps, no black screen as described by others - just empty screen, no power, nothing.
I waited over a week before I decided to bring it in to get service (my schedule didn't permit me to do so earlier). In the meantime, I kept trying everyday to get it work - I removed the battery, I reseated the memory chips, I clicked the power button on for multiple times, held it down for 30+ seconds, clicked every key on the keyboard, used two different power adapters (one had a blue light to indicate that it was powered), tried to used the AC adapter without a battery, all to no avail.
Eight days after the initial discovery (and a few days before I had planned to bring it in), I tried once more - removed the battery, reseated the memory chips, et. al. and then clicked the power switch (did not use a power supply). Unbelievably, IT TURNED ON! I was so shocked that I immediately took all of my personal information right off and did not turn it off again until I had cleaned the hard drive off. I reluctantly shut down the PC and was able to restart it again! And it was working fine until just this past Friday (3/29/13) where it is now dead again. I think that it went into sleep mode as I just closed the monitor and I saw the lights go off.
I have a feeling that my machine went into sleep mode and it still "thinks" it is sleeping and it can't be turned back on. Perhaps what I saw earlier was the complete draining of the power resources which rendered the machine completely cold so it was able to restart? Was there a Microsoft service release that could have caused this to happen? I have not changed my power settings to prevent the machine from sleeping but if I can get it restarted again, I will definitely change the setting.
I have had my Dell studio xps 1640 for around 2 years now, apart from the common overheating problems has been working fine.
Last night i powered down as usual after watching some live stream football, this morning went to start up again and the keyboard lights up & can hear the fan running but getting completely blank, black screen. It seems windows isn't loading up either as if i push the power button again it shuts down instantly.
I have always kept the inside clean and free of dust and really need to know what may need repairing. Could it be a Graphic or video card or Motherboard problem.
I have also tried the usual checks of memory but have not tried to get display via vgi or hdmi in to another monitor.
