It's getting kind of frustrating, shopping on the US site, coming up with a nice configuration at a good price, and then going to the Canadian site, having half the options, and paying 1/3rd more versus strict currency exchange.
Are there ANY deals to be had for Canadians right now? I don't know when the next Mystery Coupon will be on, and otherwise I can find zero ways to get any sort of discount on a new Studio XPS 13.
Whats the best deal out there for a new Mini?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am able to get the Studio XPS 1647 for $1634 ($1552 after Bing Cashback) that has the following:
- Intel Core i5 540M
- 4GB RAM
- 500 GB HDD
- RGBLED LCD display
- Blu-ray
- Bluetooth
- 6-cell battery
Would this be considered a good deal, or does anyone know of any other deals (e-value codes, coupon codes, etc.) for the Studio XPS 1647?
Also, I noticed some people are wanting the ATI 5000 series for the SXPS 16. What are the benefits of the 5000 series over the 4670 and what is the holdup? Does it require a new MB layout or something? I will mainly be using my computer for Internet/email, photo editing, and occasional HD video and DVD editing...I am not a PC gamer. So, would it worth waiting for the 5000 series? I'm sure the 4670 will suit me just fine, but I've read that it is 'last year's technology' and I generally like to try to get the latest available technology at the time of purchase...
Both my original 9-cell and the knock off replacement I bought for my Vostro 1500 have broken on me. Where can I get an OEM replacement for a reasonable price?

View 3 Replies View RelatedOther than the Dell website, would anyone know of any deals/coupons or place where I can buy the Dell M6400 laptop for the cheapest price in USA or Canada?
I can't work with my old laptop anymore as it was handed down to me by my brother who is a programmer..
I need a new laptop geared for heavy graphics, rendering, video editing, multi-tasking, and feel the Dell M6400 will take care of all that.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm starting school in the fall and have 4 months before I'll be needing my computer. I want to get a Z11, and apparently, there is a 7% educational discount on RTS models
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of purchasing the M6400 laptop. I cannot stand my current laptop anymore, the Inspiron 9300 . It doesn't suit the tasks I'm involved with... it was handed down to me by my brother who is a programmer while I'm in the graphics/media field.
So I was wondering if any of you know where I can buy the m6400 for the cheapest price? or perhaps any coupons or deals that you may know of.
I'm a student and can't afford the m6400 at the current price on dell's website or without any coupons or deals...
Also I was wondering what is an alternative laptop to the Dell M6400. I'd love one with a smaller screen size but with a similar performance, although there can be some compromise. I will be using the laptop mainly for architectural renderings, 3d modelling, animation, graphics, multi-tasking between softwares etc... I'd like one with 8GB Ram (no need for ability to upgrade to 16GB etc like the m6400)
I'm hoping the alternative will be much cheaper than the m6400 due to the smaller size, and lower specs etc.
I talked to the dell help guy and he recommended the XPS studio 13 model... i don't trust him as he didn't seem too knowledgeable...
What I found quite interesting in the cnet review is that their performance testing of the Dell 1569 was second place just behind the Toshiba E205-S1904 (the other Best Buy Blue Label). I do not understand why, the specs are basically the exact same specs, EXCEPT our Dell has a 500gb 7,200rpm hard drive while the Toshiba has a 500gb 5,400 rpm hard drive. I would think, if anything our performance would be slightly better than the Toshiba because of our 7,200rpm hard drive. All the other specs are the same.
So, with that being said, why did the Toshiba have slightly better performance numbers than ours, since as I keep stating all the specs are the same except we have a faster hard drive?
Does anyone have any idea why? Is this something affecting Dell globally or is it just UK/Europe in a mess?
I guess I could survive with just wireless G, but it seems ridiculous to be limited to that these days;
I guess I could also just order it and pick up an intel/dell Wireless N card for ~£25 and install it myself,
but again the question arises, why is it necessary? I assume some of you do have an 802.11n card of some description in your 1645/1747's have you seen any problems with it? .....
Recently i ordered a Dell Studio XPS and like many of you with dell's,my main use was to be for audio production,dj'ing or any sort of thing pertaining to music. After ordering and then reading up online,ALOT of people are having problems getting the latency and/or pops skips & jumps out of their sound source.
Some say the problems lie within the Lan card, some say video card. And most importantly,Dell does not have an answer to the problem because they are not trained to understand audio type situations(Unfortunately).So...Here is where we are going to solve this thing(or try really hard because besides that...these are prett good laptops otherwise) Once i get mine in the next 3 days,im going to tell you what i did because i WILL fix it or at least try hard and fail.
I'm interested in purchasing one of these two. Probably 15'' for the Studio or the 16'' for the Studio XPS.
I'm just a bit confused as to what the target users are, they seem very similar. From what I can see, the Studio XPS just has a better exterior and a superior display.
I intend to use the laptop for document editing, media (HDMI out to hdtv, most likely) and casual gaming. Price range is about 1300 CAD.
which of the two models seems most beautiful Studio? Think and say why.
Greetings,
Dell Studio 1535
Dell Studio 1555
I've been reading the threads for a while and wanted to get some more opinions on the 1555 vs SSE. I know the SSE is basically the 1537 with the edge to edge monitor.
I placed my order for the SSE last week with an estimated delivery date of 6/15
I could cancel my order and go with the 1555 with an estimated ship date of 6/01. what do you think. I have ~$1000 to play with ......
Right around black friday I ordered a Dell studio with the following specs listed below. It was $1778 with $649 off making an OTD price of $1212 shipped.
I see the I7 is out & I dont believe that was an option for the laptop either. There was also the 20% bing cashback deal which removes another 220 from the price (I dont quite get the math myself but hey).
I am looking at a Studio I7 with the same price but a 3rd year warranty vs my 2nd .....
I'm university student and ntb is meant to be carried almost daily (16" is ok for me), it's mainly for multimedia oriented jobs, some programming in C and Mathematica, some photoshop or even premiere (occasionaly), A LOT of movie watching. I also want it to be futureproof and well-built.
Dell XPS 1645 meets most of my criteria, but there are few things I'm unsure about...
1) after reading a couple of reviews and many posts on this forum I'm really doubtful if RGB-LED is worth the extra money. I'm not doing colour sensitive job (however I do sometimes edit RAW images in PS), but i want things on the display to look natural, especially in FullHD movies... (and I'm occasional gamer too)
Those who had honor to work with RGB-LED: would you pay for it in my position???
And just to make sure I haven't overlooked something: biggest DISadvantages of RGB-LED are supposed to be: inaccurate colors, bigger power consumption and some heat produced;
while advantages should be: 0,4" gain in size, wider gamut and (maybe) better brightness...
Do you know any more to be added?
2) I'm also considering usual Studio 17 with Core i7 720QM (almost the same config), because it should be cooler, it has numpad and place for additional hdd (I'd buy 80GB intel ssd 34nm for system while keeping stock 500GB for data, I think it's beatiful idea), but what I DISlike about studio 17 is: dimensions, weight, speakers and design (and maybe a bit worse overal built quality).
So which one do you think is better for me?
3) how does combined e-sata/usb work? Since I have a external e-sata drive I have to plug 2 cables at the moment: USB for power and e-sata... With this 2-in-1 port do I need only 1 special cable? Or is it meant to be either/or thing??? From the placement of combined e-sata/usb on the opposite side of ntb than other USBs I'd say that 1 cable should be enough,
I'm getting a new laptop soon, which one should I get ?? Does the DDR2 ram make any differences to DDR3?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhich one is better? I know the sxps 16 is better in terms of video & larger/better screen (e.g., performance & rgb led).
But, the sxps 13 is cheaper and better in weight (much lighter than the 16) and could be still perfect for anyone doing school works and even video editing and games .....
I am looking to get a Studio XPS 16 soon, but can't quite decide on which model to get and had a few questions...
1) What is the battery life of the 1647 (i5) compared to the 1645 (i7) assuming they have the same specs. I've read that i5's should last longer, but I really couldn't find anything comparing the two for these systems.
2) When configuring the 1645 and 1647 side-by-side with the same specs. The 1647 is about the same price as the 1645, if not more (depending on which processor selected). I thought the i5's were supposed to be less expensive than the i7's. Since they are about the same price, would it be better to go with the i7? Any reason to choose the i5 over i7?
I noticed that the Studio 15 is pretty much the same as the Studio XPS 16 minus the RGBLED screen. I really don't know which to choose and really need some guidance from some expert people. Here's what I have in mind:
Studio XPS 1645: ...
I was intrested in a new Notebook to replace my Dell Inspiron 700m
I bought an Dell XPS 2 years ago and returned it because I did not like the keyboard and VISTA. The keyboard keys were weird to me. They had no grip, felt too plasticy, hard to explain.
Does the studio xps have different type of keys? or the same keys as the basic studio?
Also whats the difference between the old XPS and the new Studio XPS?
Can I get an Intel Wifi card in it, on dells configuration it won't let me.
Overall what do you guys think of the 13 inch model?
trying to figure out which one is the better buy for me. I am looking for a laptop for mobility, graphics, and battery, pretty much like everyone else.
The studio 14z seems to be a little smaller and lighter than the xps 13.
14z also suppose to have a 6 hour battery life with 8 cell. better than xps 13
The xps 13 has a 9500m vs the 9400, but i heard thats only for conserving battery, or does it outperform the 9400
Please help me decide between SXPS 16 and Studio 17. Configs are below. Main differences in configurations:
SXPS - smaller (15.6"), higher resolution (1920x1080) screen; better build quality; more stylish; slightly better wireless card and graphics card.
Studio - larger (17") screen.
Main uses = Internet, video (not blu-ray, mostly online tv etc), very light gaming, office excel etc

I am looking forward to getting a decent laptop for around £700 and the studio 15 has kept cropping up with real good specs..................................
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to decide between a similarly configured studio xps or dell studio 17.
Both would have i7-720, 500 GB HD, 6 or 8 RAM, blu-ray, blue tooth, wimax wifi, 1080 p screen (studio 17 has B+RG screen), etc .....
Looking for some help deciding between the Studio 15 and Studio XPS 13. With my school discount, they come within $20 of each other, spec'd the way I want, so price does not factor in.
The laptop will be used primarily for word processing, Internet, and old (non-3D) games so I would elect to take a 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo and the standard integrated graphics on each.
Reasons I am drawn to the XPS model is it is lighter and more portable, looks a lot nicer, has a better backlight (inlcuding trackpad buttons), and is supposed to be much sturdier.
I still like the 15 because it has much better audio and speakers (+sub), supposedly stays cooler than the 13 (which is important since I want to use it as a LAPtop), and offers a matte screen option which I would prefer over the glossy in the 13 .....
After plenty of views I got 0 replies in the "What laptop should I buy?" section and since I want to buy a Dell I thought I'd try my luck here.
I want to buy a new laptop and I have seen two good options, a Studio 14 and Studio 15. Both the exact same price. But with two differences (and all that are related to those off course).
Both have:
Windows 7 64-bit
Intel i7 720QM
4GB DDR3
500GB 7200rpm
1366x768 resolution
Wireless a/b/g/n
6-cell battery
Studio 14:
14" and a HD4530 512MB card.
Studio 15:
15,6" and a HD4570 512MB card .....
