I had to replace a failed HD on an Inspiron 1525. I followed the recommended install procedure in a previous thread[Dell Vista Laptop Reformat and Bloatware Removal Guide].
Thanks to those that made this thread possible! I had to reinstall all drivers[dell.com] but I'm not sure whether I should install the one labeled "Dell System Software" it is a 40.1MB file that may contain much of Dell's bloatware.
Today I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and all of my drivers were found without me needing to install anything except for one. In the device manager I have an exclamation by 'Base System Device

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 3537 few weeks old. Originaly was Win8, but I update it to Win8.1.
After I registered laptop, next step was to partition my C: partition on two parts, partition C (OS), and D (Data). After that I successfully installed all programs I need. And after few days problems started with few BSoD. There are few problems and I will explain all of them.
My Dell checkup "Blue screen troubleshooter" reporting every few days one or more BSoD with explanation: "The unknown driver (C:Windows/system32/drivers/atikmdag.sys) appears to have caused a system crash. Complete the tasks below to prevent unexpected shutdowns in the future."
On same My Dell checkup I try to run "PC Checkup", and everything appear OK, no problems reported. Custom scan on only ATI video card (ATI Radeon HD8850), and result is "Passed".I also run build in DELL diagnostics (Boot menu) and there was no errors, and also Dell online diagnostics and everything was fine.
I try to install new driver from DELL website (AMD Radeon HD 8850M driver 13.151.0.0), but during installation, screen blinked few times and then went off. I thought that this is OK since video driver was installing. I left Laptop for one hour to "finish installation" but noting happened. I turned off laptop by pressing ON/OFF button for 5 sec, but after that laptop don't want to restart. Here I noticed other problem I will share with you in the moment. Fortunately, I installed Acronis True Image 2014 so I was able to restore a system. BTW, same driver version was already installed acording to "MSINFO32).
Now, my system is running, I can still see BSoD warning in My Dell Checkup, but actually I don't actually see this BSoD. Strange. If I right click on desktop and then click on "Graphics Property" or "Configure switchable graphics" I get this warning:
Second problem. During my laptop beforehand explained "BLACKOUT", I tried to use Windows Recovery. I tried "Refresh" and "Reinstall" and both times I got message:
"Could not find the recovery environment. Insert your Windows installation or recovery media, and restart your PC with the media".
If I try to use "Dell Backup and Recovery", I got message:
"Dell Backup and Recovery has not been able to detect the recovery Partition on this computer. It may be missing or corrupted. To recover your computer to the original factory state and restore the Recovery partition, please use your System Recovery Disc." etc...etc...
I don't have any of this discs coz OS was preinstaled. So, basically I can't use any facilities to recover my laptop because I don't have factory recovery media or recovery disc. Fortunately I'm using Acronis, but that's not a point. I want something to recover my system to original, factory state.
Actually, Windows Restore facilities are OK and I can restore to some point I created.
BTW, my hard drive is partitioned on 7 partitions. Originally there were 6 partitions with huge C: partition. I split this one on two.
And also, since this BSoD is likely caused by video driver, how can I safely update this driver. As explained before, after first try I had disaster. Can I try to install new driver for AMD Radeon HD 8850M from ATI site?
I recently installed Windows 7 on my vostro 1015. All the drivers were installed correctly but the 'Base System Device' driver couldn't be installed. I tried the 'Search Automatically for the updated driver software' option but no driver could be found. where can I find the 'Base System Device' driver?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a manufacturer refurbished Inspiron 5720, i7 3612QM, 8GB RAM. The BIOS is currently A12. When I received it, it had a bad hard drive. Dell sent me a new hard drive under warranty, but it was blank and I had to use a recover CD to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have installed every recommended and updated driver for all of my hardware components. But, everytime I install the HD 4000 drivers, the system starts to freeze up.
The system runs fine with the Standard VGA driver, but I can't run anything that requires better graphics. I have tried installing every version and they all cause the system to freeze. Sometimes it freezes during the boot up and sometimes it will run for up to 2 minutes before freezing. And by freezing, I mean that it just stops working. Sometime if I let it just sit and wait, it will shut off automatically. Other times, it just stays frozen for hours and I have to hold down the Power button to turn it off. When it restarts, it boots to the Safe Mode option screen. I then have to boot to safe mode and restore the system to a previous recovery state.
I am getting two error messages that read "Base system device" driver missing. The hardware Ids for the first is:

After doing a system backup the intel wireless n7260 disappeared. I reinstalled it under device managers action and the driver got installed as (2) and not working, meaning the driver 1 must be actually there but is not visible and also not working. I therefore cant get an internet connection or see any available wireless networks. How to get this driver working again?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a brand new HP 15-d035dx laptop as a Bundle from BestBuy. Pre-installed with Windows8.1 OS (my first time using it) and i immediately rejected it and decided to install my copy of Windows 7 Pro. I took all the necessary steps into successfully installing Windows 7. Disabling Secure Boot and Enabling Legacy Mode. I cleaned my partitions through Clean Diskpart. I had all the drivers i needed for Windows 7 saved onto a CD knowing my USB and WiFI drives won't work. I have only been able to install the Drivers for the sound, mouse and internet. Everything else fails, so I entered BIOS and I have very limited options to mess around with and I noticed something. It shows default OS is Win8.1 and my heart dropped. This meant that everything I just did was for absolutely nothing. But I am not taking no for an answer. There must be a way to override this issue and get Windows 7 working perfectly with no problems.

I've just recently upgraded my system from XP to Win 7 and I've been unable to find drivers for two "base system devices". I'm on a Compaq Presario V3440TU and my CPU is a Core 2 Duo T5300, and chipset is Intel 945GM.
The missing drivers are most probably for the Ricoh Card reader in my laptop, since I remember facing the same problem while re-installing XP once...

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning upon booting up my ThinkPad W520, the multi-card reader is no longer working. A look at the Device Manager (Windows 7, 64-bit) shows the "Base System Device", and reports "The drivers for this device are not installed." Attempting to get Windows to natively install the drivers does not work. Some googling shows others with similar troubles in the past; recommendations include installing a Ricoh card reader driver for Windows XP or Vista; this did not work. Other available drivers include 8ass82ww.exe and 8axv51ww.exe - these do not work. Installing Lenovo's own Support Center software shows the Base System Device driver is not installed. I can't find a way to install it. I've tried installing driver exe files and searching for those same files using the Windows browse-for-files window when installing drivers for Base System Device.

I have this as an "other device" in device manager. I had to do a full reinstall a month ago but thought all the things were installed.
Also there is a second "unknown device" with location "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller" are these related or is this a second issue ?
I bought my Elitebook 8560p a few weeks back off of a friend. Wiped the entire laptop clean and installed a new OS (Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit). I thought I installed all the drivers, but the device manager says im still missing a "Base System Device" driver.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter reinstalling W7 the lenovo solution center was complaining saying that the System Device Driver is not working. I saw that the SD card reader was not working neither so I assumend the missing driver was that one.
From the Lenovo page I dowloaded the driver for the Multi Card port for W7 and T420. After installing it the message dissapeared and the SD cards were recognized properly.
However, after rebooting the system, after a while, the mesage appeared again and the card reader stopped working.
I did install it again and the same happened. It was working and after two reboots stopped working.
I'm looking for Base system device drivers.

I had my pavilion zv5000 upgraded from windows xp to windows 7 but the thing that is wrong about it is that it says no driver flies are required or had been loaded to this device. And their is a yellow exclamation point on the base system
View 3 Replies View RelatedCame to a point when I should completely restore the OS on my Acer Aspire 4752. Neither through Alt+F10 nor through eRecovery am I able to get around a Notice with the following "please complete operating system setup process before doing system recovery". There is only one option of this notice, that is to ok it and then the current Windows 7 Home Premium OS starts and I am not able to get out of this viscous circle. The OS works and is completely set up, so I do not understand what am I prompted to do. I see a number of postings out there, but no solution. Local Acer does not seem to know anything about the problem nor it's existence.
