Sep 15, 2014I have an HP Mini 110-3030nr , the WIFI button quit working , I have checked the operation of the button using a keboard diagnostic program , i have re intalled the Athros driver and I also tried a different PCI half card , something else I might try to make the WIFI button work again ?

i dont want bloat the new OS with DELL softwares.. i havent installed anything from thier CD`s so far on this OS ( w7 )

Dell :: Studio 15 Wifi Catcher
Nov 11, 2008I got my s15 a few months ago. All was well except that I noticed my wifi catcher doesn't work properly. The manual says it should work like this:
Flashing white: Searching for networks
Solid white for 10 seconds and then turns off: Network found
Off (flashing white turns off after 10 blinks): No signal found
Also my catcher never even does '10 blinks' as above, it is always just 3.
When windows is running, the same button works and launches the available networks utility so the physical button works.
I've tried my catcher (always with laptop off) in numerous places including my own home (where my home wifi network is available) and coffee shops where there is a public hotspot. On numerous occassions I have gone into a coffee shop with the machine off. I've pressed the catcher and got
Flashing white: Searching for networks (well, 3 blinks)
Off (flashing white turns off after 10 (well, 3 in my case) blinks): No signal found
After this I've booted up and found / connected to a network straight away.
Last night I tried 'dell chat' with a support teccy and I got absolutely nowhere. Although they admitted that the catcher should work as I've said, they refused to accept mine wasn't working. They basically said they cannot help me.
I am looking for advice here if possible please folks. OK, so I know its not the end of the world but I hate having a feature on my laptop that does not work. I've effectively got a useless button that does nothing but flashes a pretty light 3 times when I press it.
I recently did a road trip in the US and booked my hotels as I went. The catcher would have been very useful here.
My suspicions with this are that it is either a) my laptop came with the higher
DELL WIRELESS 1510 (802.11N) card, or that its got 4gb of ram on vista 32 (home premium).
My g/f s inspiron's catcher works fine but she has the lower intel card.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I do about this? Really I think Dell should be fixing this as its one of the advertised features of the s15. I think I'd like to escalate this further but not sure who to speak to.

May 28, 2009i just got my M4400 and from a first contact, i am very happy with it. i have a question about the WiFi Catcher.
it seems it does not recognize the wifi card (5300) although i am able to connect to the internet over wireless. when i press the button, a window that says radio is off appears.
Also in Dell Control Point it seems like there is no wifi connection in the DCP connection manager and all wifi related options are disabled. i can only see and use the dial up and ethernet connection in this software.

Aug 10, 2007the wifi catcher stop working after i uninstalled the intel proset/wireless application. im just wondering if the wifi catcher is part of the intel proset apps?
i set windows xp to handle my wifi network and just installed the intel proset/wireless driver only.
i can still use the on and off button for wifi, but the other options are greyed out.
i think im missing a software here, but i dont have plans in reinstalling the intel proset application. is there any other dell utility that i can use?

Dec 1, 2009I installed the latest dell connnection manager, but the wifi-catcher switch is still not functional. Has dell abandoned this feature or am i missing something?

May 16, 2009Ok after 3 days of using the 1340 I just realized the button on the top panel that you can use to increase/decrease volume stopped working. I had updated the latest drivers from Dell site but not sure if that is the reason.
Also non of the other buttons that are for DVD work either. And I know they were working when I got the laptop and only thing I have done is update with latest drivers.

Jan 10, 2015I have a Dell Studio 1558 laptop which is currently four years old and out of warranty.
Currently, with or without the battery with AC adapter connected when I press the power button, the power light does not light up but the battery status light keeps on blinking until the power button is pressed. I don't see any boot up screen or hear any sound of CPU fan running in the mean time. Basically, it does not start at all.
I recently got new dell authorized battery as a replacement for laptop fearing that could be source of problem. However, the new battery does no good. I checked the battery health and status and its fine.
Before this issue the laptop would start and immediately on boot screen it would shut down. So, I got it fixed from a repair service center who cleaned up the clogged cpu fan. It worked fine for two days and then the issue resurfaced.
Now, it does not start at all. I even checked with another adapter and also changed the CMOS battery (as date and time kept changing on every boot) but the issue still remains.
Also tried removing and reconnecting the RAMs one after another and then trying to boot. Also tried draining the static charge if any after removing the battery and adapter and then holding the power button for 50 seconds. Reconnecting with ac adapter with or without battery then also does not start the system.

Aug 27, 2014I have a major problem with my hp pavilion dv6-3143sa laptop.
I put it to a shop and they told me it was a motherboard/cpu problem and they couldn't source parts. I managed to get the parts. I put the motherboard first, but didn't work. I then added the cpu and put on thermal paste, but still didn't work.

We were told it was a batch issue with the serial number R9-HNXXX and now all of those are changed into T420. But today we had the same problem with serial number R9-HXXXX that was bought two weeks earlier and with different config - I7 and SSD.

If I hardwire the laptop the connection comes back. When I looked further into this I saw that the wifi was turned off. Feb 22, 2010A friend of mine has an Acer 7730 and I think his WiFi button is broke. Every time he presses it, it spouts a random set or r[]'s when the light flashes (every 5secs ish). It was suggested he had a virus and so a full reinstall was done, but now I've looked at it I think its a dodgy key! The original keyboard has been replaced as I think something was spilt on it, but of course the keys down the left are seperate.
So long story short, he cant get on the internet as pressing the key makes any text go rrrr[[[[[]]]]]] etc etc. Is there anyway to enable WiFi without this button? and can it be replaced?

I also have no wi-fi drivers installed due to that fact.
