I just received my XPS 13 and the fan noise is louder than I was expecting. Â It is on almost constantly and will spin up and down repeatedly.all I have really done is install office and some other apps.
I bought my Inspiron 17R in autumn 2013 with I7&1TB and after a week the fan got louder. For a certain period I though it was normal that the fan gets loud while playing games but it started to make noise even when I was watching a video or surfing on the net... I get used to it but now it makes noise from the moment I turn it on. I can´t even watch a movie without headphones because of the loud fan.Is there any way to make it stop or decrease the noise?
Is this normal that when the machine has no cable attached is very silent - the fan runs occasionally for a short period o time unlike when the laptop is plugged in, makes much more noise -
the fan only stops for about 3-4 min and starts cooling again for another 5-6min or sometimes longer depends on work..?
I recently got my Z 530N to repair some things with the keyboard, and I noticed that it's much louder than before. Before the repair, I could hardly hear anything even when playing a game, but now I can hear it clearly when i'm just surfing on the internet. Is there anything I can do about this?
I've been listening to a bunch of podcasts on my laptop lately and realized that the right hand side speaker is MUCH louder than my than the left speaker, in fact if I lower the balance on the right speaker to 0% and left to 100% it's not half as loud as the right at 100%. Is this normal? If not is there a fix for this?
Also when typing, if I press the Caps lock key too fast the cursor disappears and my typing is interrupted anyone know is up with that?
The right speaker in my notebook is louder then the left one is. The only way to compensate for the problem is to lower the "balance" in the sound properties for the right speaker (I have it all the way down to 70 if you can believe that!) Now my audio sounds even between the left and right speaker. I think it's ashame that seems to be the only fix for the problem. Not sure if this is a driver issue or a hardware issue.
NVidia installs audio drivers to the computer when installing the video drivers (which I still don't understand why...I thought NVidia was a graphics company?) Then I install the IDT drivers/software afterwards. HP has verified that this is correct so everything on my end is up to date...minus of course offical drivers for the 320M video card that everyone is still waiting on!
I just got a Dell Studio 15 from the Dell outlet and while it's a great laptop I am wondering about the fan. It runs constantly and you can definitely hear it the whole time.
When I opened the media player it revved up a little but I wasn't even playing a video. Is this fan noise and constantly running fan normal for the Dell Studio 15?
I love the laptop but I think it is louder than usual and find it odd that the fan runs all the time. The bios installed is A05.
I have the model with an ATI video card if that makes any difference.
i order a dell xps 1530, and i would like to know about the fan noise, now i have a hp pavilion dv6645us and fan noise its perfect, its to low, sometimes i cant hear, how about the dell xps 1530? does it do a lot of noise? i know the dvd reader do a lot of noise, but if i dont use, can i listen to many noise about the fans? i to worry about this, please if somebody can help me, and about the weight, is it to heavy?
My first time bough the dell  xps 14 ultra book  i5-3317U last week.In day one, I love everything about the ultra book except the fan noise come up every 3 to 5mins, the noise come up so often even when i m just browsing internet. It really loud and last for 5 to 10s. This is the only bad thing about dell bookCurrently on bio version A04.
The new XPS 3 Ubuntu 12 preinstalled laptop is making loud fan noise. Is there a way to fix it? If not, how do I return the laptop and get my money back?
Just received my Studio 15 today and it's a nice looking machine but the fan seems to run more often than I'd like. I've updated the BIOS to A03, the most current, but it doesn't seem to resolve the issue.
Whenever I am using my M1530 for simple tasks, such as surfing the web or checking my email, my fan is always running. It isn't running loud but it is audible 20 or so feet away. Hardware monitor places the CPU temperature at 45C and the GPU at 62C. According to task manager my CPU useage is right around 10%. Is this normal?
I just recently purchased a Dell Studio 17. I am very happy with my purchase, however, I have started to notice a high pitched whining noise sometimes when I have it plugged in for charging.
If I disconnect the charger from the laptop, the noise goes away and sometimes it goes away on its own..
I just got my M1530 a couple of days ago and I have a few concerns and I wondered if you would be kind enough to comment on.
This is my spec: XPS M1530 CORE 2 DUO T9300 2.50GHz,800,6MDisplay 15.4" UltraSharp Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680x1050) TFT with TrueLifeMemory Dual Channel 4.0GB (2x2048) 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAMHard Drive: 320GB Free Fall Sensor (7200RPM)8xDVD+/-RW Slim Slot-Load Drive,
including SWBattery XPS Primary 6-cell 56WHr Li-IonGraphics Card 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GTIntegrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Firstly, I notice that my hard drive (I assume the hard drive is located on the left palmrest side) always appears to be spinning loudly enough for me to notice. Is this normal? It also makes weird clicky noises intermittently and I have no idea why.
The CPU fan seems to be on an awful lot. I have a Gateway MT6821 and the fan only comes on under heavy load, with the dell it's on almost all the time.
Finally, build quality - I have noticed that the trim that sits around the LCD panel is about 2-3mm away from the screen on the left side. Is this acceptable or should I return and ask for a replacement laptop?
The fan starts after a few minutes when the machine has booted. The fan will start even if I only run simple HTML-webpages etc. Afterwards it never stops but keeps running relatively fast (and noisy).
My current config is:
* P8600(2.40,1066MHz,3MB) * NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M * 250GB serial ATA HDD 7200RPM (Free Fall Sensor) (Seagate ST9250421ASG) * Intel WiFi Link 5300 (802.11 a/b/g/n 3X3) 1/2 MiniCard * Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth * Primary 6-cell 54W/HR LI-ION * 15.4in Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440x900) with LED backlit * Windows Vista Ultimate to XP Pro SP3 Downgrade SP1 with XP SP3 (Running XP currently on the machine)
Since I don't play games much and generally don't run 3D-software it was maybe a mistake to buy the E6500 with the dedicated NVIDIA-card, but I figured it was a nice feature to have in the future if I needed it.
I've tried various software to reduce the fan noise without much luck. Currently I'm considering returning the E6500 for a downgraded version without the NVIDIA-card, a lower clocked CPU and a slower HDD.
I'm considering:
* P8400(2.26,1066MHz,3MB) * 250GB serial ATA HDD 5400RPM * Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD
1) Does anyone for sure know if the fan will run slower or maybe not at all if the E6500 is equiped with the Intel X4500HD instead of the Quadro NVS 160M when I surf webpages etc. and don't run GPU-intense software?
2) Will the fan run slower with a 2.26 GHz P8400 instead of a 2.40 GHz P8600?
3) Will a 5200 RPM HDD generally generate less heat in the system vs. a 7200 RPM HDD? (and hence generate less fan noise?)
4) I would really like to know how the BIOS determines how fast the fan should run? Is it dertermined from the overall system-temperature? The CPU-temp? or the GPU-temp? HDD-temp? Maybe an average of these?
Right now the fan has run relatively fast (docked) for about an hour. According to PC Wizard 2008 the temperatures are:
- ACPI Thermal Zone: 31.5 Celcius - Core 1: 25 C - Core 2: 26 C - GPU: 49 C - HDD: 38 C - Processor(s) activity: 1-3%
I have the fan-noise issue whenever the machine is docked or not. I like the E-port Plus very much, a digital S/PDIF-audio out would have been nice though. I hope I can use the E-port Plus with the integrated Intel X4500HD if I decide to downgrade. Dual-view is a must for me.
5) I'm not sure if DELL at all will exchange my E6500 for a downgraded version. Does anyone have experience returning DELLs when asking for a downgrade? My argument is to much noise from the fan to my taste, but I don't think DELL will buy this if there's no problem with the machine, so I probably will have to pay for the return of the first machine as well as freight for the new machine. It's quite expensive here in Denmark. Returns cost about $125 and Dell will pick up the machine, the only way to return here afaik. I have 3 year International Next Business Day On-site Response, but probably of not much use if the machine isn't broken or don't need repair.
I nice side-effect from downgrading to a slower system though, will be longer battery-life, but my ultimate goal is less noise.
My dad's laptop that he got about 5 years ago is a great desktop replacement. It's never caused any problems.
But my question is about the fan, it's really loud! And it's always on continuously. Is that normal? It's been like that since he got it. I've never heard a laptop so loud.
I blow into the fans regularly but is there something else I can do to get rid of the noise, or is it normal?
I recently purcahsed a vostro 1310 laptop. It's been absolutely great, except for one thing: the fan is incredibly annoying.
Once the processor reaches 45 degrees celsius, the fan kicks in, lowers it to 40, and then turns off. A few minutes later, the computer will go up to 45, and the fan will kick in again; so it goes through this loop of turning on and off, which is incredibly annoying.
Doing some more research, I've found that other people have also had this 'problem'. Undervolting and switching to powersaving mode solved the problem a bit, but once it hits 45, I still have the same problem.
Both the fans of my Inspiron 9300 make a lot of noise. Previously in order to reduce noise I tried to completely remove the fans and cleaned them with compressed air.
At that time I found it weird that they did not make much noise when they rotated (pretty fast) because of the compressed air. The fans keep making the same amount of noise.
I notice that if I apply some pressue next to the keyboard where the fans are located the noise emitted changes.
i recently buyed a dell 1520, i'm very pleased of this laptop, my first laptop, but i'm worryed about one issue
from time to time, like 20-40 seconds, the hard drive (wd 160gb) makes a strange clonk/clink sound like it would park his heads and power off then power back on, and in that time, my games freeze for 0.5 sec or so, just a very fast freeze, and i have no ideea if this is good and normal or not, but from my previous experiece, it does not sound very healthy
i tryed with bypass/quiet/performace settings in bios at hdd management and it's no difference, and ofc the power saving is disabled both on hdd and on display so i'm getting to think the hdd has some problems, what you think?
the thing is that i have no errors on smart, i have no boot problems, i have no errors, just the annoying sound and the very small freezes
I have an XPS L502X laptop.A few months ago, probably just one month after the expiry of the warranty, the fan started to make an unbearable noise. This constant on/off of the fan starts even if I just open Firefox, Windows Media Player, Office or any other software. There's no need to play games for hours. Just to clarify: the fan starts even if the laptop is completely cold and I have just turned it on.
I tried everything: I updated the BIOS drivers, I updated the NVIDIA drivers, I modified the properties of the fan control following the suggestions of some users. In short, I did everything I found on the previous threads but nothing worked!
Do I have to contact the support and plan a sostitution of the fan? I mean, I read tens of post like mine, is that possible that a definitive solution has not been found yet?
I noticed that there is a clicking noise from the transformer of my new laptop (XPS 17). Around the internet i found that it could be a damaged transformer... but there is another strange issue: the clicking occours ONLY when running from windows 64bit, no clicking on Ubuntu 64bit...
So.... 3 questions:
1) do you think it's damaged?
2) do you think it can harm the laptop if used WITHOUT battery mounted?
3) do you think it can harm the laptop if used WITH battery mounted?
I thought this would not be such a big deal when I bought it, but I was wrong. i8kfangui does not work, I turn power to 'power saver", but even then fans go full speed. It does occasionally slow down or off, but seems completely random. Right now I see core temps at 35 and 37, with fans at full speed.
I did a search and found a couple threads but didn't see any fixes. I just received a 1645 w/ 720QM processor and 128GB SSD. Even when my laptop is idle it makes a high pitched noise on and off continuously. Is there a fix for this? It's driving me nuts. I have the latest A08 bios.
It seems to be the hard drive or CPU. When running a HDD benchmark the noise changes immediately to a more intense pattern. It's not very loud but when the room is silent I can easily hear it.
