My first time bough the dell xps 14 ultra book i5-3317U last week.In day one, I love everything about the ultra book except the fan noise come up every 3 to 5mins, the noise come up so often even when i m just browsing internet.It really loud and last for 5 to 10s. This is the only bad thing about dell bookCurrently on bio version A04.
View -1 RepliesI just bought an Inspiron 5423 laptop which is an Ultrabook. I love everything about this laptop except that a grinding noise comes from the fan even under very regular operations. It comes and go every 10 minutes and last for 30 seconds. Even my wife can hear it from the other side of the room. I'm not sure if something is wrong with this brand new laptop or it is the regular noise for all the Ultrabooks of such brand. It's really annoying and I'm thinking to return it.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased the Dell XPS 14 ultrabook and it is probably just about two months old now. Everything was so perfect until just yesterday the laptop started to make a quiet fast-paced clicking noise inside it. I don't know where it is coming from but all I know is that the noise is definitely inside the laptop. It starts usually about 2-3 minutes after turning the laptop on and then lasts for about 1-3 minutes. Is this normal? And is there a way to stop this noise? I know its just something little but I just think it's not normal to have this problem for such a new laptop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Dell XPS 12 ultrabook that I can't figure out what the issue is. The issues started with the computer not charging completely. It was getting an error saying along the lines that it was unreconized or incorrect power supply when it was the one that came with the computer. We had a second XPS and used that charger, and had a replacement sent I was getting the same error. I could never updated the BIOS because it would not go past 1 percent. Now it no longer powers on at all. I get the Orange and white power light blinking and battery meter with one light and that is it. I hooked the battery and held the power and checked every other connection. I tried powering it on without the battery and did nothing so IDK if it would worked that way or not but just trying it. Is the motherboard or something else going on?

But the pointer is there and when I click, it does absolutely nothing!! I have to use the touch screen for everything or an external mouse that I plugged in.

While at home, I tested the mini-display port output with my TV and it projected my laptop screen perfectly. Now I am on the road at a client site and their Epson projector will not recognize my computer's output (or more likely my computer won't recognize their projector, since other people have no problem connecting to this same projector).
XPS 13... I've tried both duplicating and extending my screen to the projector with no success. I can't find anything about this problem by doing a Google search...
This touch pad sucks! I just got the new XPS 12 convertible Ultrabook and I have always loved the XPS now regretting that I did not go with the Macbook....
The touch pad is rarely seems to work correctly even after I have adjust the settings and it is constantly freezing up for 10-20 seconds and I have to right click several times to get it to unfreeze. Really irritating! The only way to get around this is to use a USB mouse.
I recently received my new XPS 14 (L421x) ultrabook. Out of the box, this machine has a 500Gb C: drive labeled "OS" and a second 110Gb SSD D: drive labeled "Data". Windows 8 is installed on the C: drive. There is absolutely nothing on the D: drive.
Does this sound right? I would have thought that you would want to have the OS on the SSD and boot from that (much faster?) drive.
I thought sleep mode only occured when you did not touch the mouse or keyboard for a specific period of time but my new ultrabook is dimming and locking me out while I am typing. I have to push the blinking power button and then I have the blue screen with CTRL+ALT+DELETE (work laptop).I cannot find any sleep mode settings and perhaps.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy year old XPS 13 Ultrabook's battery is not charging when plugged in. I measured the voltage of the power adaptor at the plug (the end that connects to the Ultrabook) and the voltage level seem fine at 19.4V
However when I plug and unplug the power when the Ultrabook is off, the LED turns on and off accordingly.
My Ultrabook is L321x, running Windows 7, and has BIOS A7 installed.
I bought an XPS13 i7, installed the BIOS (that went fine) and then installed the drivers. After installing the "WiFi Display" driver, the computer will not restart. Here is what happens:
I select the restart option
it shuts down
it powers up (the Dell logo appears)
it then goes to a grey screen.
After approximately 10 seconds (or after I press enter) a progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen with the words "F12 Options." The progress bar is persistently at 99% or thereabouts the computer is completely frozen and nothing happens
If I then press the power button, it powers off. When I press the power button again, it starts perfectly normally.
The main concern for me is that this is the second XPS13 from Dell in 1 week!!! The first one had an almost identical problems after the driver installs but it couldn't even be powered back into Windows. No matter what you tried, it simply went to the screen with the progress bar and froze.
I received my new Inspiron Utrabook today . Everything was fine for the first time that I booted. When I tried booting the second time, it's stuck on the Dell screen. Tried hitting F2 as per the suggested posts but to no avail. And how do you remove the battery ?

Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook
Got a new Inspiron 14z Ultrabook with Windows 8 64 bit, and I want to connect the Internet through a Huawei EC167 3G modem, running a program called "Mobile Partner". When I first install the modem it works fine, but as soon as I switch off the computer and switch it on again it stops working. The only way I get the modem working again is doing a computer refresh and re-installing the modem, but then it only works until I switch the computer off.
That Huawei modem used to work alright with an Inspiron 11z with Windows 7 64 bit.
Have recently purchased a new 14z. When I turn on the ultrabook, with no power cable plugged in - I get a message telling
me that the Battery is not recognized, and that I should press F1 to continue or F2 to go to the Setup screen. Pressing F1 boots
the ultrabook as normal. It seems a strange message to get. Ultrabook was purchased direct from Dell about 4 weeks ago, and
BIOS is A06 (latest).
I just bought my Inspiron 14z Ultrabook three days ago. The first time works fine, but now it's frozen on the Dell logo screen.
I have been able to run a diagnostic test if I hit the f12, and it's all ok.
When I hit f8 and the bar is fully loaded nothing happens.
I had just closed it the other night after charging it. Then there was nothing - no boot, no LED with charger, no fan. I checked and the charger is definitely functioning, so I worry that this is a problem with the motherboard.
Since it's an ultrabook, I haven't been able to remove flea power since the battery is embedded into the laptop.I wonder if it would be possible for a technician to come have a look at it ASAP?

I have an envy m6 touchscreen that is giving me problems that i can't solve. It has been great up until recently. i was using my laptop last nite when suddenly it turned off but i didn't think that the battery shoukd have been dead yet. its acting as if the bat is empty and plugging it in just turn on the orange led by the power plug. when i press the power button it flashes for a second but the screen does nothing and it doesn't actually turn on.I'm using my phone to attempt to find a solution atm which is very frustrating. adding to the stress is the fact that i have school work projects and a midterm project on it that I need to finish.Almost forgot to mention it started doing a few other odd things over the last week such as the touchscreen going nuts registering phantom touches endlessly until i close/hibernate/shutdown it.

I have an external Seagate Expansion Drive 2TB and had backup files on it. I created a new partition by shrinking the E: volume and made F: to use for the DELL System Recovery.
I selected the F: partition when asked what drive to use. I was 100% certain E: would never chosen during any steps in the process. After it finished I looked in Computer and found both partitions had been formatted and a DBR_Boot placed in both. Yet E: (where personal files were stored) is basically empty other than what appears to be a boot up capability and F: has the recovery files.
Why has this happened? I need those files. Is there a way to reverse the process or will file recovery software be needed in an attempt to regain those files?
I can't believe this hasn't happened to other people, must be a common occurrence. What I could do to recover lost files.
Can I add to my HP spectre ultrabook 14-3210NR as a second HDD mSATA Crucial M500 (CT240M500SSD3) . Should I expect any problems with configuration etc?

I just realized that one of the PCI-to-PCI Bridge device was not working properly, the PCI device driver not installed.
I've tried to search the driver in HP support and download for Indonesia, but cannot find any Windows7 Drivers.
I am having difficulty booting Windows 8 on my HP Envy 4 Ultrabook. Firstly when I try to login to Windows using my Windows 8 password it says "The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded".

I recently purchased a HP HP - Split x2 Ultrabook - Model # 13-g110dx and I am pretty happy with the ultrabook. The ultrabook came installed with Windows 8 which I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and after that all Windows 8.1 updates were installed and the latest drivers from HP as well. However I have noticed that the touch stops responding after sometime and I have to restart the laptop to make it work again.
Another issue I've seen today is the touch pad stopped responding and I again had to restart.
HP Split 13 X2 Ultrabook - Windows 8.1 (64 Bit) I have an HP Split x2 Ultrabook that I purchased a month or so ago.
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 recently. I have noticed that my touchpad freezes and my cursor no longer works, no matter how many times I click or try to revive it. If I then start using the touch screen, the cursor disappears altogether and does not come back. This happens completely randomly - sometimes every couple of hours, other times more than once an hour. It has nothing to do with how many programs I have open or how often I am using it.
I go to Device Manager to check the mouse/pointer, and it says the device is working correctly. It also says all available updates have been installed. Most of the times I have to shut my computer and wait for about 30 seconds before opening it, and then the mouse will reappear. But the problem surfaces again after sometime...I am fedup with restarting my laptop everytime.
I just got a thinkpad yoga and I have noticed since I started using it that the screen randomly flickers. I can't narrow it down to a time where I'm doing a specific task.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a "HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-n005eo Ultrabook" running windows 8.1. This last Friday my computer got stuck and when I tried to reboot it said that something was wrong with windows and gave me the alternatives to fix it. I first tried to backup trough the program but got a Bluescreen (System thread exception not handled (iaStorA.sys). I then tried to just restore the Windows part (not effecting my files) but I got Blue screen. I then moved on to a full system reset (with my recover DVD that I fortunately had made just a couple of days before the crash) but after completed all 5 discs the computer rebooted and told that the system restore wasn't completed so I tried again, but I got the same problem.
The last thing I have tried is to make a factory reset and now (after the 5 disc) it started to reboot and a information that told that HP software were about to get installed came up. I left the computer to finish the install and when I checked later on it was turned of so i turned on the PC and after the message "Wait" I got Blue screen again (System thread exception not handled (iaStorA.sys)) and the same happens when I restart the computer.
I have a HP Envy 4 - 1046tx Ultrabook and the operating system is Windows 8.1 64-bit. While downgrading to Windows 7 64 bit I was unable to find the hard drives. In the installation screen it showed me "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation.".
I downloaded all the versions (from latest to the oldest) of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers and tried installing them one by one but they didn't work and still the hard drives aren't visible. But if I use a Windows 8 installation disc and install the driver the hard drives are visible.
I need my computer to display the hard drives by default without requiring a SATA driver. How do I do that? My chipset manufacturer is Intel and the model is Ivy Bridge HM77.
