I have a year old red M1530. My specs are:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
(Clean install on empty hard drive, only basic drivers/no crapware)
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (Dual boot)
Core 2 Duo T7700
x2 Corsair 2GB DDR2-667MHz RAM
GeForce 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3
320GB 5400rpm HDD (Samsung -_-)
Recently I dropped my laptop from my bed, making the bottom left hand corner of the palmrest (i.e. the part right above the HDD) bend and open outwards, so I bought a new Product Red palmrest off ebay and replaced it myself - worked a charm, had no problems for two days.
The problem occurred today: I decided I would restart my computer to work on my Windows 7 partition as it was the partition without Steam. It shut off like normal, but it stopped at a black screen - the Dell startup screen never showed up. I had to switch off the computer by holding down the power button.
Now, when I turn it on, everything starts up as normal for a split second, then all the lights on the multimedia interface go out, and nothing shows up on the screen...I can hear the hard drive running like normal, so I doubt it's a hard drive failure.
The techie at my uni residence says that either the LCD display wiring has gone faulty, or the LCD burnt out (or some other bit of hardware), but I find it funny that this should happen AFTER a restart...isn't that a bit of a coincidence? I opened up my laptop to reconnect the cabling, but nothing seems to work...a motherboard failure perhaps?

a few months ago, had the dell tech come in and replace the mobo on my overheating m1530.. in the process he had to take everything apart incl the screen and put it back after the new one was installed.
question:
does your screen turn off after you close the lid while its on?
mine doesnt, and im wondering if it has something to do with the sensors on the lcd (if any).. or is the screen not supposed to turn off when you close the lid?

I'm having some problems with my M1530 - it won't turn on/start up. I was trying to restart it last night (using the Start button command) and whilst it powered down, when it powered back up the screen does not come on although I can hear the hard drive whirring.
The power button lights up for about 3 seconds and all the volume/music control buttons all light up too, and then the lights go off but the screen remains dark. The hard drive keeps whirring however.
I also noticed that the battery light on the front of the laptop (next to the slot drive) flashes blue then amber then back again.
I have tried starting up after 1) disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it; 2) disconnecting the battery and using just the AC as power; and 3) using the battery only as power, but nothing works.

I have my Inspiron Gen 2 XPS since 2005 and I'm very pleased for all the good years.
But I think is dead now. I don't know what happen but it was a bit overheat this last years, maybe I didn't pay enough attention to its cleaning needs as I did the first year I bought it.
So yesterday I turn it off as usual, and now I tried starting it and it won't even boot the Dell logo.
The fans turn ON and everything, even the screen iluminates, but doesn't show any images and the Num Lock key is iluminated.
I don't even get to the boot screen, it just won't load up anything. My lappy is dying and its in a really critical moment.

Well about 20 minutes ago I plugged in my XPS 13 to charge then went away for a few minutes. Before putting it on to charge I had just closed the screen as I usually do and when I opened it didn't resume from sleep. It is the late 2012 XPS 13 running windows 8, i5 and 8gb RAM. None of the LED lights on the side of the laptop that indicate how much battery life the laptop has left are turning on when I press the button and I am getting really worried. I bought the laptop with a 2 year warranty so I thought I would post on here first before contacting customer support. The bottom of the laptop doesn't feel hot at all so I am fairly sure it is not overheated.

I was using my Dell XPS 15 l502x when it turned off (didn't shut down just turned off instantly) and now it won't power on.
Battery shows full power but i get nothing when pressing the power button and it has now been off for 1 hour.
I have tried battery in + AC, battery in alone, no battery + AC and none of it works.
When the AC power is connected the charging light does not come on either.
No indication as to what the issue is, it wasn't hot, there wasn't a burning smell, had only been on for ten minutes, had a full battery, was AC connected and the AC adaptor is fine (it has the normal blue glowing light).

I have a Dell XPS 12 i7 256 gig (first model) and similar to many of the posts, have had issues particularly with the wireless connection. I have a specific issue however that my computer won't turn on. At last use I was simply watching a movie on it (fell asleep) and the next morning when I went to turn it on, the backlit keys come on, but that is where it stops. Nothing comes up on the screen and after 32 seconds, the backlight goes off. ( I have tried it a few times and it is always about 32 seconds)
It is also completely unresoponsive during this time (pressing keys, or the windows button doesn't change the time before the backlit keys go off). You can hear some form of activity but after the 32 seconds, nothing.
I have tried holding the on button for an extend period for a reset but nothing. It is fully charged and the first time I have had this issue.I am travelling overseas at the moment and cant seem to get onto the tech support wihin my country.

When it's plugged in, the power light on the power button lights, as does the power light on the front edge of the laptop. But, after about 4 seconds, both lights cut off.
After they cut off, the battery light on the front edge blinks just once (even when battery is not connected).
Nothing powers up during those 4 seconds. No hard drive sound, no fan on the mboard, etc. Just the lights ....

I know Dell STILL doesn't have 64-bit for the Dell Studio 17 only 32-bit, but is there a way to GET 64-bit?
Like, is there a specific person or department at Dell to get the 64-bit discs...free?
How would I turn my 32-bit OS into the 64-bit OS if the discs were provided?

As the subject states, my fan will not turn off. Everything was running great, then about a week ago, after installing MS updates, my fan will not turn off no matter what I'm doing.
I'm sure it was an update but am not sure how to go about fixing. I know I can just start uninstalling updates till the fan turns off but if there is a better way that would be great.

I've had my laptop for about two months now. I bought it from a recondition company - ndc.co.uk. It's been fine up till now. On friday night it was working perfectly, then when I went to turn it on on saturday afternoon it was nothing doing. Two of the lights on the back right (the power one and the one next to it) lit-up for about a second, then they went back off again, and that was it. It's been doing that ever since. The light on the AC power supply is still green, but it won't turn on either on just battery or just supply or both. I didn't download anything the last time I used it, just a bit of footy manager, watched a couple of episodes of simpsons online listened to some stuff on itunes and thats it. Nothing's been spilt on it and I am at a loss to understand why it isn't working.
I doubt its that common a problem - I rang Dell and short of opening it up they didn't really know what to do. I tried taking the battery out and holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds then trying to turn it on again, but it didn't work. If anyone knows anything that can help, please let me know, and save me the journey to the repair shop and the millions of pounds they'll charge me.

I have a Dell 15R 5521 laptop with an Intel Core i5 3337U 1.8 GHz (3 MB Cache) and Intel HD Graphics 4000.I closed the lid yesterday after doing some work, then opened it up about an hour later. No life. The power button lit, but there was no sounds, nothing on the screen, no beeps. The HD works fine (I have an external case I used to test it out), the memory doesn't seem to be the issue. The battery had about half-power at the time, and when plugged in the charging light is lit. Without the battery and only the plug there's no change.Â
I press the power button, the power light is lit, stays lit, but nothing else happens. At this point, I'm pretty sure it's my motherboard, but I'm not entirely certain, and I'm not sure about what I can get as a replacement. The parts list for my service tag doesn't seem to specify the motherboard independently.

My dell inspiron 15R won't turn on. I've had it for about 3 years. The last time I turned it on the battery needed to be replaced. It also had an overheating problem. Now it won't turn on but when I plug it in the charger light is lite. I've tried disconnecting the battery and the charger and then holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Then I tried to connect it with just the charger. It didn't work.

Today I installed Windows 7 on my Studio 1537,
but it occured to me that my notebook screen does not turn off when I close the lid.
I installed all the latest drivers from the Dell website and everything works fine, besides this little problem. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? It used to work in Vista...

My inspiron 9400 will not boot. The only functions I can see is the battery light comes on when plugged in to indicate that it is charging, and when I press the power button the power light comes on for 5 seconds then goes off, thats it.
I thought this problem was the board earlier, so I replaced it with a tested motherboard and am having the same problem.
I have also tried booting with just AC adaptor and just battery, no change. Right now my only idea is the CPU, is this feasible? Can somebody help me with this?

My d630 wont start. Whenever i push the power button, the power led lights up, hdd starts but the display stays black. And then, after few seconds i can hear the hdd turning off (it makes this funny "click") and the whole notebook powers off.
I disassembled it few times already. I kept unplugging one part after another trying to power up the notebook after ever one. Finally, with both ram modules (genuine, no upgrades) taken out it powers up, but of course won't boot...
There are now two problems:
1. Both ram modules worked already for some time.
2. The notebook powers up and boots into win xp from time to time and everything seems ok, till it dies after around one hour, sometimes more. This opts against corrupted ram...

I got an E4300 through work and set up the fingerprint reader at the request of my IT department, but I hate this stupid thing. It never works and I always have to manually override it.
I asked them to take it off, but it's "firm policy" for our laptops to have the reader turned on.
Anyone know how to turn it off? It's controlled through Dell ControlPoint and maybe a proprietary program we have.

I push the power button on my 1530 and nothing happens. No lights, no anything. There was no burning smell previously.
I plug in the charger to the wall, and the green light on the adapter turns on, but then when I plug it into the computer, the green light turns off, but still nothing happens.

Just recently i opened my laptop up and got it out of sleep, i opened up the game world of warcraft , and as i was logging in, it froze and made loud noises constantly so i turned it off right away, and tried to reboot a few min later but no dice.
when i push the power button the power led comes on as well as the upper keyboard leds, the caps lock led flashes, idk if that means anything, but nothing from there, screen is blank and no hard drive seems to be spooling. The power brick led remains on when i plus it into the laptop and i have tried it without battery, ram, HD, and such but it won't start
