Just got a new Latitude (my fourth this year), and when I toggle the switch on the side to turn it on/off, it doesnt turn off. The "WIFI" indicator light in the upper right side is also not turning off

View 7 Replies View Relatedi got my laptop last month (VGN-NS110E) and i've recently been having this issue with the wifi switch as I had a MBR error on the partition and had to format everything...green light doesn't go on and i can't get it to turn on with smartWi...Sony tech support sucks bigtime....I am thinking it may be a hardware issue and I just want them to take a look at it but the "tech" told me I need to install the recovery disk first which i hate because all the unneeded extra bs that comes on it....I have misplaced my recovery disks that came with the laptop so I first installed vista ultimate and then sony told me only supports vista home premium. I don't want to order replacement disk knowing that it may not work...what I could try or where I would be able to find the recovery disk i need...?

View 7 Replies View RelatedL501X, working fine until this morning when I was unable to connect to the internet via my wireless connection. Two other laptops can connect as normal. If I hardwire the laptop the connection comes back. When I looked further into this I saw that the wifi was turned off. I updated BIOS and all wireless drivers which I have found on support site.
How do I turn on Wifi with my Envy m6 1117TX laptop? A few days ago, a technician from a mobile wireless provider told me how to turn it off but now I have access to a Wifi connection and I can't remember how to turn it on. I've spent all day trying to find any information on this at all and have come to the conclusion that HP has easily the worst support system for simple questions of any company I've ever encountered.

It says the wireless device is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device. The HP driver support page doesn't have a driver for this wireless device.

This is a new ProBook G1 450 which I am still doing basic setup on; I haven't even added my programs to it. I am setting up the preinstalled OS with the HP preinstalled programs. It does successfully connect to the internet via an ethernet cable, and I downloaded many Win 7 and HP updates that way. But it will not connect via a wireless network. It does not recognize that there are any Wifi signals in the area. My old Thinkpad and my tablet recognize a number of strong Wifs in the area, and connect easily to the one which I am authorized to use. The ProBook says there is no wireless in the area.
The ProBook's Wifi is apparently disabled. The wireless light is on (white), and when I click the appropriate icon, there is a message saying that Bluetooth is enabled, but Wifi is disabled. The light is supposed to turn on if either of Wifi or Bluetooth or both are turned on, so it is not a malfunction if it turns on when only one is enabled. But I have not tried Bluetooth yet.
Many other ProBook G1 450's apparently have a Ralink wireless device or certain other devices. Not mine. My ProBook apparently has an Intel Dual Bank Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device. That's what Device Manager says. And this device might be excellent or perhaps even a nice improvement. However, unfortunately, Device Manager also says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)."
The HP support page for driver downloads for my ProBook does not have any driver for such an Intel wireless device. I didn't try the wireless until having installed many Win and HP updates. At the same time that I have noticed the wifi problem, I found that one HP update won't install: that was for Hotkey Support 5. Since then, I am having a little trouble with a couple of other updates. I mention this in case it is of some interest, but I don't see any connection between these updates and Wifi.
I have a problem with my wifi. The button is always appearing orange, and nothing happens when I press it: no errors, no messages, no reaction at all. Therefore I cannot use wifi connection.
The laptop is kinda new: I am using it for only 2 months.

My windows crashed and I recovered it from the archive created a couple days prior to that. Archive included all hard drives data, so system was restored exactly as it was prior to the crash. I am still not sure if this caused the problem (or if the problem appeared after that): it happened a month ago, and I didn't have WiFi available back then, and only tried to turn it on a couple days ago.
Additional details:
In device manager wireless card is showing up as working normally. In adapter management wireless connection is turned on but says "no connection available". If I run the diagnostics, it asks me to turn on WIFI with a button on my laptop, which I cannot do. In mobility center it says "wireless connection is turned off". Turn on button is gray, and impossible to click on.
Things I already tried:
Reinstalled all HP drivers from the original CD;Removed WiFi card in windows device manager (deleted the device), restarted windows, installed new drivers for it, restarted again;Checked mobility center as was suggested in one of the threads found on this forum;Made a hard reset for HP laptop (removed battery, pressed on/off button for full minute).
I use compaq presario cq43. my wifi button(f12) and few other buttons like insert,delete is not working.
How can i turn my wifi on. is there any possible way to enable the hardware button ....
I'm runnng Windows 8 on a HP Pavillion g4. I was a playing a game with the wifi off, the lan wire connected, and the battery out, on high perfomance mode. The game crashed, I shut the laptop off by keeping to power button pressed. After starting it up again and trying to use wifi, I realized that pressing the wireless button would show "airplane mode off" on screen but it would not turn blue, nor would the wifi turn on.
After this, I attempted a system restore, repairing existing drivers, checking BIOS, and a hard reset by taking out the battery, pressing on the button for 30 seconds, and then starting up again. None of these methods have worked so far.
I want to turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to save the battery but I can't find the way to do it. There is no button or smth like this. How to do it?

I bought my HP 15 a few days ago and since yesterday (after I restarted it) it can't find my network. Also, sometimes it finds all the surrounding networks, sometimes one or two, sometimes none of them, but it never shows mine.
All my other devices connect to the network just fine and also when I connect the laptop via Ethernet cable internet works normally. I tried reinstalling the adapter and driver, but nothing happens, the problem is still here.
Looks like atheros is highly recommended but I'm not sure if I have to be concerned about compatibility (meaning if drivers will be an issue)

I have my Inspiron Gen 2 XPS since 2005 and I'm very pleased for all the good years.
But I think is dead now. I don't know what happen but it was a bit overheat this last years, maybe I didn't pay enough attention to its cleaning needs as I did the first year I bought it.
So yesterday I turn it off as usual, and now I tried starting it and it won't even boot the Dell logo.
The fans turn ON and everything, even the screen iluminates, but doesn't show any images and the Num Lock key is iluminated.
I don't even get to the boot screen, it just won't load up anything. My lappy is dying and its in a really critical moment.
