Dell Vostro 1014 :: Dead Laptop - Refuses To Start
Apr 12, 2013I have a Dell Vostro 1014 (or whatever it is).. And it refuses to start. I can charge it, but as soon as i press the start button, it stops charging. I don't hear any sounds from the pc as it would start either.

Aug 14, 2009Dell has announced three upcoming Vostro models- two 14.0" (1014, 1088) and a 15.6" (1015). The only difference I can see between the 1014 and 1088 is the 1088's ATI HD 4330 dedicated graphics card. All three look very similar and have 16:9 aspect ratio displays (1366x768)....
I wonder if the 1320 and 1520 will continue alongside these new models?

Aug 1, 2009Just recently i opened my laptop up and got it out of sleep, i opened up the game world of warcraft , and as i was logging in, it froze and made loud noises constantly so i turned it off right away, and tried to reboot a few min later but no dice.
when i push the power button the power led comes on as well as the upper keyboard leds, the caps lock led flashes, idk if that means anything, but nothing from there, screen is blank and no hard drive seems to be spooling. The power brick led remains on when i plus it into the laptop and i have tried it without battery, ram, HD, and such but it won't start

Mar 24, 2013Pressing I/O Start Button results in nothing (no blinks, sound, nothing at all).
Blue "Ready Light" lights up when plugged in.
Swapped out AC adapter with one from a Latitude 510 Laptop. Numbers were all identical.
The Vostro ac adapter works on the Latitude 510.
The Latitude 510 ac adapter has the same result as the Vostro power supply. Ergo, ac adapter is good.
The I/O switch appears to be loose. (Probable problem.)

Feb 21, 2013I just bought my new Dell Vostro 3360. That's was nice that everything works out of the box, but I deleted whole disk and installed newest ubuntu 12.10.
And there starts problems - 2 nights trying to get wifi but without results.
So there is possibility to get original image or how to get wifi under ubuntu 12.10 (32.bit) ?

Jun 1, 2009i got my laptop last month (VGN-NS110E) and i've recently been having this issue with the wifi switch as I had a MBR error on the partition and had to format everything...green light doesn't go on and i can't get it to turn on with smartWi...Sony tech support sucks bigtime....I am thinking it may be a hardware issue and I just want them to take a look at it but the "tech" told me I need to install the recovery disk first which i hate because all the unneeded extra bs that comes on it....I have misplaced my recovery disks that came with the laptop so I first installed vista ultimate and then sony told me only supports vista home premium. I don't want to order replacement disk knowing that it may not work...what I could try or where I would be able to find the recovery disk i need...?

If I hardwire the laptop the connection comes back. When I looked further into this I saw that the wifi was turned off. Dec 25, 2014The Wifi on my a new ProBook won't turn on. Device Manager says that the device driver for Wifi won't load and may be missing or corrupted. It says the wireless device is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device. The HP driver support page doesn't have a driver for this wireless device.

This is a new ProBook G1 450 which I am still doing basic setup on; I haven't even added my programs to it. I am setting up the preinstalled OS with the HP preinstalled programs. It does successfully connect to the internet via an ethernet cable, and I downloaded many Win 7 and HP updates that way. But it will not connect via a wireless network. It does not recognize that there are any Wifi signals in the area. My old Thinkpad and my tablet recognize a number of strong Wifs in the area, and connect easily to the one which I am authorized to use. The ProBook says there is no wireless in the area.
The ProBook's Wifi is apparently disabled. The wireless light is on (white), and when I click the appropriate icon, there is a message saying that Bluetooth is enabled, but Wifi is disabled. The light is supposed to turn on if either of Wifi or Bluetooth or both are turned on, so it is not a malfunction if it turns on when only one is enabled. But I have not tried Bluetooth yet.
Many other ProBook G1 450's apparently have a Ralink wireless device or certain other devices. Not mine. My ProBook apparently has an Intel Dual Bank Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device. That's what Device Manager says. And this device might be excellent or perhaps even a nice improvement. However, unfortunately, Device Manager also says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)."
The HP support page for driver downloads for my ProBook does not have any driver for such an Intel wireless device. I didn't try the wireless until having installed many Win and HP updates. At the same time that I have noticed the wifi problem, I found that one HP update won't install: that was for Hotkey Support 5. Since then, I am having a little trouble with a couple of other updates. I mention this in case it is of some interest, but I don't see any connection between these updates and Wifi.

Jun 1, 2012I have a problem with my wifi. The button is always appearing orange, and nothing happens when I press it: no errors, no messages, no reaction at all. Therefore I cannot use wifi connection.
The laptop is kinda new: I am using it for only 2 months.

My windows crashed and I recovered it from the archive created a couple days prior to that. Archive included all hard drives data, so system was restored exactly as it was prior to the crash. I am still not sure if this caused the problem (or if the problem appeared after that): it happened a month ago, and I didn't have WiFi available back then, and only tried to turn it on a couple days ago.
Additional details:
In device manager wireless card is showing up as working normally. In adapter management wireless connection is turned on but says "no connection available". If I run the diagnostics, it asks me to turn on WIFI with a button on my laptop, which I cannot do. In mobility center it says "wireless connection is turned off". Turn on button is gray, and impossible to click on.
Things I already tried:
Reinstalled all HP drivers from the original CD;Removed WiFi card in windows device manager (deleted the device), restarted windows, installed new drivers for it, restarted again;Checked mobility center as was suggested in one of the threads found on this forum;Made a hard reset for HP laptop (removed battery, pressed on/off button for full minute).

Jun 5, 2014I'm runnng Windows 8 on a HP Pavillion g4. I was a playing a game with the wifi off, the lan wire connected, and the battery out, on high perfomance mode. The game crashed, I shut the laptop off by keeping to power button pressed. After starting it up again and trying to use wifi, I realized that pressing the wireless button would show "airplane mode off" on screen but it would not turn blue, nor would the wifi turn on.
After this, I attempted a system restore, repairing existing drivers, checking BIOS, and a hard reset by taking out the battery, pressing on the button for 30 seconds, and then starting up again. None of these methods have worked so far.

Dell :: Vostro 1500 Dekstop Icons Disappeared Stops At Vostro
Feb 27, 2009I bought a Vostro 1500. It has been fine and I got XP instead of Vista. 2GB of RAM.
It boots up fine with quick Dell screen, black XP start up screen with thermometer line at bottom, then light blue XP screen then Vostro.
Before the destop icons show up next after Vostro and I am all set. Now it stops at Vostro.
I can get to programs using task manager file open and browse. Not very convenient.
