Recently I installed trial version of Windows 7 64bits on my Vostro 1014 (which originally had 32 bits Windows 7). I choose clean installation, which erased recovery partition. My laptop came with no CD. I want to restore my laptop to original settings.
I don't use it very much; it's more a backup machine and the occasional Skype to grandkids. Been having a problem with being unable to use windows update; keeps getting an 8007005 error.
Googling reveals a lot of folks with the same problem, some different fixes, and mixed success stories. I've tried several of the fixes with no luck and probably made things worse than they were before (now Defender won't update).....
well i have a very old dell demension 3000, i saw restoring the os with a hidden partition/program created by dell can restore to factory settings. but the thing is if it fails i dont want to go by windows xp/windows vista os operating disk/activation key
I have a Dell INSPIRON 14Z that comes with pre-installed windows 7. The laptop has the recovery partition and i would like to restore it to factory settings. What are the keystrokes for restoring the laptop to factory settings.
Does restoring a Windows 7 laptop to factory settings (i.e., not a clean install) require anything extra besides re-installing programs, such as updating drivers, Windows updates, etc?
I have an inspirion 15R I wish to reset to factory settings, but I can't figure out how.
I've tried going into the control panel and doing it from there, but when I try to reset the system, I'm prompted to insert an installation disc for windows 8. The computer never came with a windows 8 disc.
to put laptop back to factory settings, so I done the Alt/F10 on the Acer logo page to take me to the page to start this. On the Acer eRecovery Management Page I use the restore system to factory default, when I do this I get a message saying D2D32 - Type mismatch and then hangs there forever until you turn it off. I was reading on here about that error code and done what it said to do to make sure that it was enabled and it is.
I have rang Acer and they said theres nothing they can do as it out of warranty, by 24 days
He didnt make any recovery discs and hes pissed at me because this has happened! am not happy myself, as I rebooted 3 other acers with no problems.
Would he need to purchase disks or can they be got free?
I made a DVD as a backup of the recovery partition on an Inspiron 9300. When I run recover.exe, I can see the *.gho file and I can select it. But for some reason, it says it's 76GB in size.
I can't select individual partitions so I can't copy it to the second partition. I know it's not absolutely necessary to have it but the old hard drive was crashing.
Could some good techie please kindly mention the step by step method of restoring Dell XPS 1530 notebook back to factory settings ?
Could this setting be done at home or should it be done by an expert Dell representative ?
How to back up all the driver info and various programs info(not the actual drivers or programs, just the info about which were installed before restoration) ?
I am trying to restore a corrupted M5 to factory defaults. Since the HDD was corrupted, the Acer eRecovery would not work. I purchased the Recovery Media CD set, changed BIOS to boot from CD, disabled secure Boot.
The System Disc comes up, i selected Restore Operating System to factory default. I get prompts to insert Recovery Disc 1, and after a few seconds get a message that the is no sufficient disk space to copy temporary files.
The HDD is 500GB, C: drive is 450GB and 415GB free.
I have a pavilion dv7-6b50ei notebook pc bought 2012. It always gives a command prompt pop up which doesn't stay long enough to read. I also felt there's a virus on it which my anti-virus couldn't solve so I tried factory resetting but when I restart and press F11 it gives an error(something like a boot.. is missing). so I tried my recovery discs. Disc 1 of 4 ran fine but disc 2 keeps stopping with an error.
Now the laptop doesn't load as I think the OS has been formatted during the recovery and don't know what to do. I feel disc 2 is bad too because it also gave an error while trying to copy it to a USB pen drive. I have also tried an external dvd and run the hp test on the hard drive; the hard drive passed the test. If I can get a new set of recovery discs, it would solve my problem.
I get my new "Vostro 3360" and I needed to do "roll back" to factory settings but I had some problem:
- I tried to do a "recover / estore" but there was nothing in the list - I already installed the laptop also installed many programs (e.g: office, winscp, irfanview etc.)
- I tried to go through the "help center" on the laptop and same issue - nothing, all empty
- I even try to reinstall from the disk I got with the laptop BUT it didn't found my hard disks... so basically, my question is how can I install the laptop from the included windows 8 cd that I got?
I just want to reinstall my laptop like it was as I got it from the factory
I have an annoying problem with a Dell 15R-5521 Windows 8 laptop. I tried to do a factory image system recovery via the pre-installed "Dell Backup and Recovery" application. It indicated that the machine would be restarted, however it simply booted back into Windows, as per a normal reboot. I tried this several times, with the same result each time.
I had previously created recovery media on a 16GB USB flash drive, so booted it from this instead. I chose the "Factory Recovery - Deletes data & resets all partitions" option. The process completed successfully, and everything appeared to be fine, however when I looked at the System Protection tab I saw the following.
Protection Settings Available Drives Protection OS (C:) (System) Off?Volume{da47ae8b-20ce-4f8a-8... OffOC (C:) (Missing) On
I've Googled but I can't find anything about this anywhere.
I am trying to bring my inspiron 560 desktop to factory settins but its not giving me the option for Dell Data Safe during system recovery. I have the recovery disks that I prepared when I first purchased the computer but I don't know how to do it with the CDs...
I don't have the recovery partition on my system anymore, but would like to reset my Ideapad Yoga 13 to factory status. Is this possible somehow? All the guides I've seen assumed that my recovery partition was still intact.
I have a Pavilion dv7-1103ea laptop which I need to restore to factory settings. I created a recovery disk from the system but it has become corrupted. I gave my laptop in for repairs to a local repair shop. My laptop is now working but it is not in the same format as when I purchased it. Is there any way of restoring the laptop to its original format?
I have HP Probook G2 G6W28EA#ACB. When I did off of my laptop I had a problem. It is not off up to the end ( key lights was on).I swithed off it only by taken out battery.I recovery OS from boot sector SSD HP ( by F11). After that on the client security screen I found all recovery logins. After last recovery I do not see any logins on the client security screen? but see in BIOS ( by F10 in BIOS). I have a Dell Vostro 1014 (or whatever it is).. And it refuses to start. I can charge it, but as soon as i press the start button, it stops charging. I don't hear any sounds from the pc as it would start either.
I decided to restore my aspire 5930g laptop to factory defaults, and started out with creating the restoration discs. At this point, i wasn't really aware that one could restore from the harddrive.
So i booted up the discs and started the restoration process. But now, the dialog tells me to insert the third disc, while i only have two. What should i do? I could try to kill the restoration process and start over from the harddrive, but im afraid to harm the system.
Dell has announced three upcoming Vostro models- two 14.0" (1014, 1088) and a 15.6" (1015). The only difference I can see between the 1014 and 1088 is the 1088's ATI HD 4330 dedicated graphics card. All three look very similar and have 16:9 aspect ratio displays (1366x768)....
I wonder if the 1320 and 1520 will continue alongside these new models?
I've been trying to restore my system back to factory defaults for a while now. I've tried pressing ALT + F10 at startup, but it just beeps loudly and brings me to a command screen, saying:
[ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN]
I've tried several 'fixes' but have had no luck, I would really appreciate somebody helping me, as it would save me in technician costs.
I have been given an Acer 6930G by a family member to setup. After realising there's 0 discs included with the laptop, the Acer pop up message tells me I have to make my own factory default image. I have successfully made it on 2 DVDs, my question is now in the manual there is nothing about how to use it, I was wondering if anyone can share any insight to me as to how it works.
Basically I know it is probably a bootable DVD as the root of the DVD suggests (several "BOOT" files) I was wondering how it actually looks like? I haven't tested it yet as the user was extremely desperate to get it running so I had to give it up the moment the DVDs were made.
If I put the DVD in and select to boot from it at start up (before getting into windows) does it take me to some sort of custom screen where I can SELECT that I want to reformat and restore the laptop? I want to know what options I am given and I can only assume that it's the same for most laptops.
And I can only assume again, that if I factory restore it, it will come back with Vista activated and all the initial bloatware again, along with all the drivers for it (so I don't need to go track them down).
This is all I need to know, I wish I can test it but I can't even get the laptop back now (until it breaks ...)
If someone can post their experiences with it I will be grateful, this is just more for reassurance than anything, and confirm my assumptions? Many thanks in advance!
EDIT: I have discovered that I can launch that recovery app by pushing ALT+F10, I have managed to wrangle the laptop temporarily to test and have discovered that I can choose from 2 back up options, but I dare not go any further, can someone tell me the next steps? One says factory default, and the other is user's backup.
I can guess that if I choose the first option, factory default, it'll ask for the DVDs I have created? And the 2nd option will restore a backup I made selecting the user option on the recovery app.
