View 10 RepliesI bought this laptop as a mobile editing station and I've spent the past week installing all the things I need (with a whole lot of help from people here).
Now I've just installed TMPGEnc, which is a cuda enabled program. However, when I go to turn the feature on it's greyed out. I did some searching around and it turns out that the drivers dell give out for the m4400 aren't cuda compatible.
How on earth they can get away with this I don't know, but I'm not here to complain. I'm sure there is a way to get this thing cuda enabled, but I don't know how. Surely there must be alternative drivers. I have had a look at laptop2go but I'm more confused.
And OpenCL eventually? Sorry if it was asked before but my searches were unsuccessful.
I am planning a Latitude E6400 and would like this option over 4500MHD if it supports CS4 and vReveal acceleration.
Yup me again, in my hunt to determine if M6400 is right for me as it costs just about as much as a used car, I want to make sure its a good investment before I buy it.
What is the main difference with the M6400 and the M6400 Covet?
I configured both with the same specs and the Covet is about $900 more in price?
Does orange paint really cost that much?
I just formatted my Precision M4400 and was going about installing the drivers. Are any of the applications useful?
It seems like every driver has a utility or application to go along with it
It's been running fine for a long time now as in the Sig, but came home from Dinner last night and some wierd things. Tried to open Irfanview and it said it couldn't find the program.
Same with Easycleaner (a Reg etc cleaner). Also, my Software Firewall (Comodo) popped with 3 flags that basically told me it was not working and a re-installation might fix it.
So I rebooted and now everytime I come into windows (even in Safemode) if I select Start-Program Files (or Control Panel) the menu will lock up. Can still Alt-Tab-Del to see processes running, but thats it.
So I tried a restore point to last week, came to my desktop and nothing loaded. No explorer, menus, short cuts, etc at all. (can still alt-tab-del)
what kind of applications (Free Preferably ) you like to use on your Mac. If its possible link a picture of the application with a brief description on what its used for.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy laptop takes ages and ages to open applications, new browser tabs and websites. Quite often websites I visit give me a "session expired" message. Sometimes an application will give me a message saying "program not responding" but if I stay patient and don't close it, after some time the application opens!
I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 Laptop. I get this message from My Dell:
Dell Notification about Antivirus Conflict: You have more than one antivirus software enabled. This can lead to conflicts that may impact performance.
I have bought and installed BitDefender Antivirus ... the conflict must be from Windows Defender. Maybe I should uninstall Windows Defender ... how do I do this?
I am using inspiron n5110, it shows connected in network and sharing but the net applications are not working, they show as they are not at all connected to internet.

How HOT does your Sony NVIDIA GPU run when running 3D applications (e.g. games)?
I'm trying to figure out if I should have my Sony Z checked out. My laptop GPU runs up to 222 degrees F! And that's after cleaning the fan / filter.
This is my first time re installing OS 10 and would like to ask a question. If I do a clean install with the os x discs, will all the ilife applications be gone?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am reading the various threads about how to go about performing a Windows 7 clean install.
I see and understand the requirements to load the Sony 'platform' drivers to get the various custom hardware working.
but what about reinstalling the original applications? Particularly some of the custom VAIO apps .....
I have recently bought my first notebook, an HP dv6 with amd turion m500, 4gb of ram and an HD 4650 1 gb.
I have some questions:
_Which of the hp applications can be deleted without causing drivers issues etc?
_ What programs should i download for temperature monitoring?
I just got my new MacBook Pro 15" (with auto graphics switching) and was a bit surprised that the discrete graphics card was always on... so I started investigating what apps might be triggering that! As far as I could tell, I wasn't running anything graphics intensive... so it was a surprise to me what I found out
There are a lot more apps causing this than the ones I listed initially... a more complete and up-to-date list can be found at this thread on MacRumors forums.
It's possible to know what graphics card you're currently using by installing GPUInfoMenu or gfxCardStatus, the latter also allows to force switching from discrete to integrated, or vice-versa.

I'm not sure if this really needs a separate thread or could go in the VM sticky, but I thought it's pretty important.
It's just been revealed that Windows 7 will have a Virtual Windows XP mode that will basically be running Windows XP in a VM and include integration features like Coherence in VMWare Fusion and Unity in Parallels Desktop. They are doing this to address the remaining software backwards compatibility issues in Windows 7. Of course, Microsoft being Microsoft with their product segmentation, is currently limiting access to Windows XP mode for Professional Edition users and higher, although it is commendable that they are offering it for free.
Why is this significant for Macs? I think this is very useful because future Window operating systems and applications will be written with the expectation that they will be running in VMs in future OS for compatibility. It wouldn't surprise me if Windows 7 (kernel 6.1) and Office 2010 are already being designed in a way so that they can run well in a VM for a future kernel 7.0 based Windows OS. These optimizations would of course benefit Mac users who still have to use Windows application or perhaps even play games. I'm sure it'll also be a compelling transition point to encourage switchers, especially if they are already familiar with virtualization from Windows 7.
my Acer travelmate 5720 (same laptop that had problems last time) running Windows Vista Home Premium has recently been having some problems.
I.e:
-Any of the Acer Empowering Technology Applications crash uncontrollably
-I can't find any networks, and it's not my router I checked.
-My windows firewall won't turn on which is strange.
-There might be other problems but I haven't found any others yet
I have run a "Deep" virus scan and found nothing.
When using Migration Assistant between two Macs to transfer applications and data, Apple's instructions indicate you can use an ethernet cable.
Does one use a straight cable, or a crossover cable for this function?
Just bought new MacBook Pro after about 15 years of using Windows machines (first experience with Macs was in aerospace when for a time there they used Macs almost exclusively.) Very nice. Even nicer I've found that I don't need BootCamp for Windows applications .. don't miss them at all! For office-type applications just use NeoOffice and Photoshop does a Mac version, too. It's great just to be able to get on a computer and do work rather than spending time (sometimes lots of it) trying to figure out how to make the thing work better or even work at all.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that in a few applications, specifically Outlook 2013 and Visual Studio, using the two-finger slide on the touchpad causes it to zoom instead of scroll. In other places, like web browsing, the functionality works normally. A few weeks back I refreshed my system and for a short time the issue went away...but now it's back.
I'm running a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with the latest drivers from the support site.
Just got a T440p and it's working fine. BUT when I go into an application like Word and either hit the function key or combine it with the Alt, Ctrl, or Shift key, I still get the default action of the Funciton key. For example, in Word, the Alt-F9 combination is used to display field codes. When I do that, however, I get the Control Panel popup. Similarly, in a browser, I should be able to hit the F12 key and get the Developers pane at the bottom of the screen. But instead in IE, Chrome, and Firefox, I get a My Computer popup.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an ideapad Y580 with the NVIDIA GTX 660m. When I run any application with 3D graphics on battery the GPU core will initially run at 405 MHz - All is well.
After around 1 or 2 minutes, the GPU core will begin to flick between 135 MHz and 405 MHz approximaetly every 2 seconds. At 135 MHz, 3D applications are unusable and any audio goes all 'robot voice'.
I've attached a screen shot from GPU-Z
My understanding is that;
-When plugged in, I should get 835.3 MHz when running 3D applications,
-On battery, there is not enough power available to hold at 835.3 MHz, so the GPU compromises and runs at 405 MHz
-When in Windows, plugged in or not, 135 MHz is sufficient.
However as you can see, my GPU keeps falling back to 135 MHz from 405 Mhz when running 3D applications such as Farcry 3, Left4Dead2 and UGS NX7.5 (CAD Software).
Some Patterns I've Noticed:
The following cycle seems to repeat
GPU Core Speed (MHz)
CPU Core Speed (MHz)
Battery Voltage (V)
405
~798
10.85
405
~1297
10.85
135
~798
10.7
Could it be that the CPU starts ramping up which causes a V drop, thus causing the GPU to roll back to 135 MHz? If so,
Is this normal behaviour of a healthy battery? Can anything be done to limit the power consumption of the CPU to avoid the V dorp?
I see a lot of "You can't run games on battery, just accept it", to which I say, fair enough, but I need this laptop for demonstrating 3D CAD models to people. My 2005 Acer 5670 handled this no problem, I expect my Y580 to perform at least as well (really I expect it to perform a lot better).

In Skype when trying to make a call, the program crashes, I googled the issue and it seems others have had similar problems and it was fixed by updating their Intel Graphics driver.
"Intel® HD Graphics Control Panel" program also won't open, it crashes instantly.
"ThinkPad Video Features" driver fails at installation ....
I have the latest driver to the Intel Graphics, which I got from lenovo support....

The trackpoint middle scrolling button doesn't work for some of the newer applications such as ITunes, the newest versions of Picasa, Windows Live Mail, Safari, and Windows Live Writer.
Below is a fix applicable to all Windows OS's. The location of the edited file may vary so look in the Device Manager under trackpoint driver details to find driver locations.
The file must be edited as an administrator in Vista and Windows 7. To do this, at the programs box type in notepad and on the notpad program in the menu right click and select, "Run as Administrator."
In Win7 x64 it is located at: (edit with Notepad run as Administrator).

I've been running on a T520 4239-CTO for a little over a year now without issue. I've been getting lots of random bsod and services crashing in the last few days; even Windows 7 cannot validate itself anymore.
I ran all the hardware checks in the provided Lenovo utilities and it all seems to pass. I didn't trust this so I manually checked the smart values on the hard disk and noticed around 2400+ reallocated sectors so I decided to replace the hard disk.
It should be noted that there are no viruses/malware on this machine. After receiving the new hard disk I did a factory restore using the dvd backups I made when I received the machine. Upon booting the new factory install on the new disk I'm still getting the same random bsod and issues with Windows 7 not being able to validate.
I notice that everytime I boot now on the newly restored os that the "Microsoft Software Protection Platform" service has issues and cannot start. I started doing some updates using the Thinkvantage tools and they're crashing too.
This machine is currently on pass 4 of memtest without any errors so far.
I've replaced the hard drive and from the looks of things so far the ram seems fine. Where do I go from here?
I have HP Pavillion DV6 6115tx laptop and accidently i deleted the Drivers And Applications Source For Recovery Manager from C:.. Now I want to get that source back.

i'm waiting for the M6400 I ordered. I didn't choose any of the Dell bags cause I wanted to get it myself.
So here's the question. Which bag to choose - especially regarding the big power supply.
I already did a search:
Targus - Atmosphere ....
I guess I'm about to get a mobile workstation. I already got an M90 it is great. Only one dead/stuck pixel and the front panel silver button paint came off in a few month of usage.
But I love it. So I am thinking of getting an M6400. Can you back me up on this one..?? Please if you own one tell me the pros and cons.. Have you noticed any Dead/stuck pixels.
What about built quality, feel, comfort, performance, heat, cooling, fan noise, screen quality ( thinking of LEG or RGB LED)..
Any creeking noise while opening the lid or holding or working on the laptop?? Any thing you can tell me about this beast of a machine will be a great help for me indeed
im about to buy my first laptop and just some things a want to clear out.
Whats the diffrent between a CCFL LCD and a RGB and E2E Silver LCD Panel?
And the diffrent between a LCD Back Cover : Silver with CCFL
LCD Back Cover : Silver with Regural LED?
