View 10 RepliesHow exactly often do they happen? I plan on getting an FW very soon, I could buy one early Feb, or wait until middle march will be the best times for me to buy one financially wise. My question is if I wait until middle March sometime, do you think there will be some upgrades on it opposed to the current FW390CTO?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI been working part time in computer service for 2 years now. Most notebook that come in are Dells, while Dell owns only 30% of Ukrainian laptop market. I have seen Dells that literally fall apart while under 3 years of usage. Most low to middle price boxes seem to be build from cheap plastic and 2nd grade parts.
Am I mistaken, is it a local phenomenon? What are your opinions of Dell notebooks?
I am trying to find all notebooks with RGB LED screens with at least Full HD resolution from Dell.
So far:
Dell Studio XPS 16 (glossy) 1920x1080
Dell Alienware M17x (glossy) 1920x1200
Dell Precision M6500 1920x1200
I'm seriously considering getting the Dell XPS 16 Studio laptop for my fiance.
She is starting to really enjoy photo editing and having the 1920x1080 screen would be fantastic compared to her current 15.4" 1280x800 laptop.
I was originally looking at 18.4" laptops from other manufacturers with the 1920x1080 resolution and 17" laptops with the 1920x1200 resolution .....
I'm having to buy a new laptop soon - looking at the XPS - but I don't know when this premium XPS customer service care will subside (which I expect to happen when Dell releases their new solution to getting consumers)

dell was moved to poland ,not?
Is there any news on this? I am in the market for a new notebook computer, but I was going to wait until October when Windows 7 comes out.
Any idea if new models will be released between now and than? Is it even possible to put an i7 processor on a notebook?
So for the upcoming school year I purchased an 17' Inspiron notebook (upgraded some components such as graphics card, procceser etc) online on the first of august. I was very surprised when I recieved an email that said the est. ship date was the 17th of august, est. arrival date the 21st! I probably would have just bought a labtop retail at a store somewhere if I had known it would take three weeks for it to arrive!
My question (to those who have purchased dell notebooks in the past or recentely) is whether or not it really takes that long for the notebook to arrive at your doorstep or in fact its not as long. I figure because its summer, maybe they're backed up a bit?
Why is Dell still selling notebooks with Nvidia GeForce 8000M Series such as the XPS M1730?
They know the GPU is defective and will fail far sooner than it is intended to. They are selling a ticking time bomb.
I know that they release a BIOS update but that will only delay the eventual break down a bit later after the standard warranty expires.
Will HP offer a new series of Notebooks this year? Specifically 17 inch? I am assuming the 18 inch HDX and 16 inch HDX will be just getting spec upgrades.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAny word on the refresh? The hardware on the XPS line is looking a bit dated.
View 10 Replies View RelatedAnyone have a clue as to what and when we are going to get with a NEW XPS 13.
I would love to see an i core CPU and a5000 series GPU.
If there is infact an XPS refresh how much of a change would moving to a 9xxx vid card make over the current 86xx
View 10 Replies View RelatedWondering about those of you who had experience with the Sony Refurb notebooks. My understanding is that they are basically new old model, but come with only 90 days warranty.
THAT is the factor that scares me - the 90 day warranty as Sony repair is very expensive out of warranty.
Anyone comment on the risk vs the reduced price?
New Acer Ethos Notebooks announced.
Quote:
Acer's aspirational laptops have a new Ethos to them now, and it clearly has something to do with entertainment. The newly revealed 18.4-inch 8943G sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a true 5.1 surround sound setup, meaning that somewhere within its shell reside five miniature speakers and a sub. Processor options range all the way up to the quad-core Core i7-820QM, which offers 8MB of built-in cache and a 1.73GHz clock speed that cranks all the way to 3.06GHz when required. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics and up to 1.28TB of storage (2x 640GB) complete the overkill recipe. The 5943G is basically a scaled down version, offering as it does 1366 x 768 resolution across a 15.6-inch display, a 2.1 internal speaker arrangement, and a merely adequate 640GB storage maximum. The rest of the specs are shared, including a 4,800mAh battery, which should perish quicker than you can say "desktop replacement." Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.
What's a good site that serves internationally which is selling Sony Vaio notebooks?
Any other than Amazon?
When will Sony release a new line of notebooks instead of just a refresh? Will all of them be replaced at the same time?
View 6 Replies View Relatedmy notebook has the optiarc 5500S BD Rom and I've only had it for a couple days. I've tried a few blu rays using quickplay but the playback is a little stuttery, especially when skipping from scene to scene. Overall, playback is fairly smooth but my eyes are really picky and I can tell it's not as smooth and fluid as it would be if I were to watch it on my ps3.
I'm wondering if PowerDVD (blu ray version) would be smoother. What are your experiences with blu ray on your notebooks and what software do you use?

I'm a somewhat pleased (after months of displeasure) SXPS1645 owner *points to sig* but after 5 months of carrying this thing with me to my campus daily (and pretty much everywhere else I go) this machine is heavy and big and bit overkill since when I'm outside I rarely use it for video editing and gaming which I tend to do at home. So for the Fall(ish) I'm going to be in the market for an ultraportable, but after using this machine it's going to be hard to go to a machine with a wimpy atom processor or even a ULV C2D. So I found the Adamo XPS and it appeals to me in the same way the SXPS did, an eye catching design that isn't bulky and still performs well. However looking at the specs currently available for it I was disappointed. It's using a hodgepodge of outdated parts. I wanted to basically start a thread on potential component refreshes for the Adamo XPS, in the hopes that by the time I'm ready to purchase one some of these things will become reality. Also I'm curious about other brands of ultraportables (NOT netbooks) that people use/have used and would recommend.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMaybe I missed it? Since I'm sending my 1645 back and my wife likes her 1340 a lot I was curious if anyone heard anything at CES or otherwise about a refresh of the XPS 13 line.
Would really like to see one with an i3 or an i5 and a 335nvidia ro better with 1gb... but i sort of wonder if they'll wait until after the Alienware m11x is out and loses hype so that it doesn't have any competition.
Is dell going to refresh the dell studio 17 soon with a 4xxx series ati card?
View 10 Replies View RelatedDell's has been very quiet on their successful line of business laptops. Is there any news or rumors on yet to be released Vostro's? I would like to see something new other than the A860, 1510/2510, and 1710.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'd like to buy an M1530 but it hasn't been refreshed in forever. Does anybody know if Dell is phasing out this series to replace it with the Studio XPS series?
I'd like to get any computer of comparable build quality, i.e., with a magnesium alloy frame but options around this price range seem limited. I don't want a Thinkpad
New Vostro 1320, 1520, 1720 have arrived and they are sporting the 9300 GS.

On nVidia's SLI zone, they list the m1730 as "featuring dual GeForce 8800M GTX". Whether or not it'll happen anytime soon is anyone's guess but at least it looks like it's going to happen.

Alienware, Dell, Sager, Eurocom, MALIBAL, Cybersystem, Multirama, Nexoc, and Rock have all worked with Nvidia to squeeze two GeForce 8800M GTX chips into their high-end gaming laptops, and the first systems should be available "soon"
Can these be returned within the 14 day period if there is no engraving? Say there are stuck pixels or something.
