i was always looking for a good solution to create an ISO of your hard drive.
this way, after a clean xp & drivers istall, you can save this image to a usb-hdd/usb-stick/CDs/DVDs/etc. and everytime your system needs to be reinstalled (virus, slowdowns, registry messed up, ...) you can save yourself the endless installation/sp2 download/driver search and simply play back the clean windows in about 1 hour.
there is commercial software like trueimage, which does that. and norton ghost, which i hate, as i hate symantec software and this tool is not really good.
and there is a freeware tool, which is named "driveimage xml".
very simple to use and it works great:
[url]
you simply click "back up", choose the path to the destination you want and wait
a few minutes.
when pushing big files and not choosing the option "split large files", remember, that
your destination harddisk has to be formated with ntfs, as you can't push files bigger
than 4 GB to fat32 formated drives at once.
the only thing you have to do is create a boot cd with an operating system on it,
so you can restore your image to the system hdd.
i used the freeware bart pe to do this:
[url]
you only have to transform your xp cd with it to become an operating system
cd. and insert the plugin for driveimage xml (available on the runtime.org homepage), so you can run driveimage xml when booting from cd.
i'm considering reinstalling windows 7 home premium on my laptop and i'm wondering if i can use a regular windows 7 home premimum disk instead of the "restore/backup" discs that came with my acer laptop. Reason for doing this is because i do not want all the bloatware from the original backup discs. is this doable?
I have an inspiron 1545, and recently a message that said "missing operating system" appeared when I booted it up. I tried pressing f8 and control+f11 but neither of those work. I also tried reinstalling my windows 7 but after it says "starting windows" it just goes to a black screen with a curser. I'm willing to restore it completely if its nessecary.
I Have a HP DV6T QUAD and reinstalled Windows 7. When I touch the volume on my keyboard to increase or decrease the volume, it would appear on the screen for 1 second. Now after reinstalling, it doesn't show on the screen anymore when I touch the volume increase decrease on my laptop.
I have a Notebook hp430 with Windows 7 64 bit ultimate. After having some sort of driver/virus that was freezing my computer, again i reinstalled my laptop with windows 7 64 bit ultimate .
Now it can't connect to the internet through wireless. I've tried all the basics: pressing the WIFI enable/disable toggle key on my keyboard, restarting my computer, enabling disabling the internet connection in the network area, etc.
Under Device Manager I see 4 devices related to the wireless internet:
1. Other devices >1> Network Controller 2>pci device 3> pci simple communications controller 4> Sm bus controller - all the above devices have yellow warning sign next to it - the error is for having no drivers installed.
What should I do? How can I get my wireless internet to work again?
After upgrade to Window 8.1 PRO I seeC: 932 GBD: 28 GB -listed as recovery. I want to save system image backup Currently to create system image backup I have only option to create image on external drive or on D:
1. Is possible without reinstalling windows create new partion E: in order backup system images to it? If yes how create new partition in win.8.1?
2. if partion E: will contain system image(s) can I boot from usb recovery disk and choose restore from one of system images located on E:
3. If for some reasons I want to reinstall OS from set of recovery DVD(s) to factory setting what is going to happen with partion E:
I just installed new HHD; trying to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium 64BIT SP1 from Reinstallation DVD of the Dell Studio 1537; I get twoerrors:
1-This computer’s hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk’s controlleris enabled in the computer’s BIOS menu. How can I tell the disk is enabled?
2 - Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation. What? My HDDisk size is 298.1GB free space?
I have an acer aspire 5630 laptop which I bought in October. Now I had to repartition and reinstall windows vista for some unavoidable circumstances. But I have lost all the softwares like NTI CD/DVD maker and drivers like modem. I do not know what the problem is but my dial up modem does not work. It shows something else in the modem list (Contexant) that is different from what was there originally ("HD audio"). Whether the telephone line is plugged or unplugged it shows the same error message. I mean the error message like no dial tone is shown while no telephone line plugged. Besides it does not produce the speaker sound even after enabling so which it used to do before.
Moreover, now as I have lost the softwares like NTI CD/DVD maker, how can I reclaim them as my warranty has not yet expired. (the driver is not in their website)
I experienced missing several DLL-files, and often got error messages about those. I re-installed Windows 7 64 bit, as I didn't want to mess with those DLLs missing.
After that re-installing, I couldn't get internet-connection to my router. Luckily I have a 10+ year old stationary, where I after some time found the driver I needed, so that works now.
But now it seems there's several other drivers missing/not been installed.
SM Bus Controller; Hardware ID: PCIVEN_8086&DEV_1C22&SUBSYS_1659103C&REV_05
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller; Hardware ID: PCIVEN_1033&DEV_0194&SUBSYS_1659103C&REV_04
I have 4 USB-ports, but only one will work, the others don't respond, and I need all four running at the same time. Plus I'd like to have everything in order after I had to re-install Win 7.
I,ve tried this link, but it doesn't work: [URL] .....
2. And do I need to install some drivers for my laptop's motherboard/chipset AMD A76M FCH ? I couldn't find driver for it, so maybe it is pre-installed with Windows 8.1?
I have a HP 630 laptop with Windows 7 64 bit ultimate . After formatting the hard drive of the computer, I reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate.
Now it can't connect to the internet through wireless. I've tried all the basics: pressing the WIFI enable/disable toggle key on my keyboard, restarting my computer, enabling disabling the internet connection in the network area, etc.
Under Device Manager I see 2 devices related to the wireless internet:
1. Other devices > Network Controller - it has a yellow warning sign next to it - the error is for having no drivers installed. 2. Network adapters > Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller - "This device is working properly."
Below are the hardware ID's for the network controller that is not working:
After I reinstalled windows 7 I can't recover factory settings and drivers (going threw F11 as mention in many support sites). Also I can't download Wifi (wirelees lan driver). It shows that it can't be done on this computer becouse it doens't support this operating system or that it doesn't have wife device at all. I downloaded Lan driver from support and it works, but its diffrent story with wifi. Driver genius can't find it either. Also tried using rescue and restore, but it doesn't find any back up's. Even do there still a partition LENOVO_RECOVERY. So I need to know that I am doing wrong, did installed wrong OS(even do I tried two diffrent setups) or I just do something wrong then I try to restore fatory settings or I just f.
so basically I reinstalled windows 7 Home Premium x64 Operating System and it seems that some drivers are missing. I bought a new hard disk and 4 G of ram..I installed them and the laptop is HP Pavilion dv6-2137sl , Intel Core i5 CPU m430 , 2.27 GHz with 6 G of ram now. When I looked at the Device Manager. I saw at Other devices : Base System Device Base System Device Base System Device Network Controller Unknown device Unknown device. All have yellow triangle. I tried to install a driver, the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Driver but after the installation it gives me the next message : The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable.
I have a HP Pavilion g7-1205ev laptop with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium. I bought a new hard drive so I had to install Windows again. After the installation the laptop can't connect to the internet either by wifi either by Ethernet. After trying troubleshooting it says that windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter.
At the device Manager I can see that there is an exclamation mark to these exact components:
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter BCM20702AO Ethernet Controller Network Controller PCI Device PCI Simple Communications Controller SM Bus Controller
Can I download all these from somewhere ? And of course I will download them to another PC as my laptop doesn't go online at all. I also tried to run Ubuntu from a flash drive on my laptop and the Ubuntu uses the Internet just fine.
i like having my m1530 on my lap (unplugged) in the living room while i watch tv/babysit so far i can only make it last 2 hours at the most(surfing the web, messengers) with the brightness 30% and powersaver mode.
well i was reading on the thread on how to underclock your cpu...theres a problem with that:
-numero first im too lazy (hurts my head when i try to understand the thread, hence the "[ADVANCE]" on the title ^^")
-numero dos having a t5450 on power saver mode (50% max perfomance) is slow enough... so i tried to look for a better solution and found this...

i think its great...my battery up to 2 hours and 20-ish minutes.
My laptop is an inspiron 1520, about a year old now. Ever since I've had it, the hard disk drive has been making a loud, random click from time to time. Sometimes, it will click twice in the space of two minutes, sometimes it will click only once in two or three days.
Typically it's simply a loud snapping sound, like if you get a pencil and snap it against a wooden desk. It doesn't make any other sounds besides the usual hard drive sounds.
For about a quarter of a second, the system pauses. I think it's related to heat, as it happens most often while playing a graphic-intensive game.
This is an issue that's only been going on for a couple of days, as far as I can tell.
Lately, whenever I boot up my Studio 1535 into Vista, it starts off in Power Save mode by default.
Ever since I got this thing and reinstalled Windows, I've had it use High Performance mode by default, and just edited the profile power settings to those of Power Saver when it's on battery.
Once Windows starts, I can go into power options and set it to run High Performance mode again, but it's annoying having to do that at every boot now. It just doesn't save my setting anymore
who came across with slow start up and sleep issues in windows 8.1. ( Dell Inspiron 15-3537).I recently upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1. After installing all the drivers found that fast start up not working and laptop does not awake from "sleep" state.
Actually reinstalling the Intel Video driver solved the problem. When I was going to install video driver, it was said that a newer version is already installed. However neglected that and downgraded the video driver. that 8.1 is faster than 8.you install the latest driver given in dell website.
By default, the brightness setting on my dell xps m1530 is set to max on AC. I prefer to set it 3 at pushes of the down button.
But I whenever restart or when the screen turns off automatically after inactivity, it just resets back into the full brightness. Is there anyway to make it 'remember' the brightness that I set it to?
I just got my new x100e laptop today, and i really like it. But, it has a problem.
I am connected to my wireless network at home, and it works properly on my other computers at house. But on the x100e, the connection drops from time to time. Suddenly, the internet is gone, but ten seconds later, the network is back up again.
It's not that big a problem, but it is frustrating to lose the internet from time to time. It happens from every 5 minutes to once 30 minutes.
It really annoys me that my new laptop, (Just a week old) when turned on takes a very long time before it starts. After the HP logo, it will show a blank page where my cursor can be moved, then it will stay a very a long time so I end up shutting it down then turning on again and again until it finally starts up. This really takes a lot of my time specially I use my laptop for work.
I have two laptops. One is a macbook and the other is a Toshiba that has Vista. The Toshiba works pretty well, but I want to be able to back it up like I can with the mac and time machine.
Is there any Windows software out there that can come close? I know there is backup software that comes with some external hard drives, but I think they just save your files and not your settings.
Dropped computer during move, lost all the disks and paperwork.Hard drive was damaged so purchased new one locally..Downloaded ISO win 7 86,installed used original validation. It booted up all fine but no drivers for mouse or Ethernet or wifi actually no drivers.Mouse works.
How can I download the drivers and save them to CD/DVD and install on machine.
i have bought a dell studio 15 and i am totally satisfied. Now i would format vista, and reinstalling it resizeing the partition.(i have planned to install ubuntu or arch linux).
I have 2 WinPCs and a Mac and I am searching for a solution that will enable me to set up a wireless backup for all the 3.
So I am considering buying the large Time Capsule (1TB) if and only if I can use it as a backup drive for my WinPCs too. Do you know if this is possible or even better, has anyone done it?
I recently had a small flood in my basement. While my laptop didnt get wet the power adapter did. It stopped working as there was water dripping out of the adapter. I purchased a IGO adapter from Radio Shack. I tried it in the store on my laptop and it worked fine. I got it home and it was a different story. The unit kept turning itself on and off and i kept having to jiggle it to work. Finally I decided to return the adapter and buy another one. I purchased a 90 watt adapter from Best Buy. Now the machine doesnt do anything. Nothing happens, no blue light or anything.
I just received my new Dell UltraSharp u2412m monitor! Now I try to connect my Dell XPS15 laptop (via its mini displayport connection) to my new monitor via a mini displayport to displayport cable.Sadly it doesnt seem to connect and the monitor instantly goes into Power Save Mode..the monitor instantly works with an old laptop via vga connection...Plug and play...
