Where does Quicktime for Windows save its configuration file? I need to manually change the config file in order to solve a problem with Merriam Webster Visual Dictionary that has a problem with the audio. If you don't use Windows but know the name of the file.
Is there any way that when i click clear downloads in the safari downloads window that the actual downloads will be deleted to. Like in firefox if you remove the downloads from the dl window it will remove the actual dl from wherever your default dl folder is.
i like having my m1530 on my lap (unplugged) in the living room while i watch tv/babysit so far i can only make it last 2 hours at the most(surfing the web, messengers) with the brightness 30% and powersaver mode.
well i was reading on the thread on how to underclock your cpu...theres a problem with that:
-numero first im too lazy (hurts my head when i try to understand the thread, hence the "[ADVANCE]" on the title ^^")
-numero dos having a t5450 on power saver mode (50% max perfomance) is slow enough... so i tried to look for a better solution and found this...

i think its great...my battery up to 2 hours and 20-ish minutes.
I recently had a small flood in my basement. While my laptop didnt get wet the power adapter did. It stopped working as there was water dripping out of the adapter. I purchased a IGO adapter from Radio Shack. I tried it in the store on my laptop and it worked fine. I got it home and it was a different story. The unit kept turning itself on and off and i kept having to jiggle it to work. Finally I decided to return the adapter and buy another one. I purchased a 90 watt adapter from Best Buy. Now the machine doesnt do anything. Nothing happens, no blue light or anything.
i was always looking for a good solution to create an ISO of your hard drive. this way, after a clean xp & drivers istall, you can save this image to a usb-hdd/usb-stick/CDs/DVDs/etc. and everytime your system needs to be reinstalled (virus, slowdowns, registry messed up, ...) you can save yourself the endless installation/sp2 download/driver search and simply play back the clean windows in about 1 hour.
there is commercial software like trueimage, which does that. and norton ghost, which i hate, as i hate symantec software and this tool is not really good.
and there is a freeware tool, which is named "driveimage xml". very simple to use and it works great:

you simply click "back up", choose the path to the destination you want and wait a few minutes.
when pushing big files and not choosing the option "split large files", remember, that your destination harddisk has to be formated with ntfs, as you can't push files bigger than 4 GB to fat32 formated drives at once.
the only thing you have to do is create a boot cd with an operating system on it, so you can restore your image to the system hdd.
i used the freeware bart pe to do this:

you only have to transform your xp cd with it to become an operating system cd. and insert the plugin for driveimage xml (available on the runtime.org homepage), so you can run driveimage xml when booting from cd.
This is an issue that's only been going on for a couple of days, as far as I can tell.
Lately, whenever I boot up my Studio 1535 into Vista, it starts off in Power Save mode by default.
Ever since I got this thing and reinstalled Windows, I've had it use High Performance mode by default, and just edited the profile power settings to those of Power Saver when it's on battery.
Once Windows starts, I can go into power options and set it to run High Performance mode again, but it's annoying having to do that at every boot now. It just doesn't save my setting anymore
I have an Aspire 5720. The default mode for the eAuido Management is Movie (which means surround on). When I turn the computer on, I change that value to Music (surround off). However, there is no way to save my preferred mode (Music), and everytime, I have to bother with changing it from Movie to Music.
Is there a way to make "Music" the default mode of the eAudio Management?
as you all may have heard, when your laptop is idle the hdd makes a clicking sound . that means that it is parking its head/s to save power. the thing is that this will make it brake faster. wd hdds have like 300 000 cycles .
By default, the brightness setting on my dell xps m1530 is set to max on AC. I prefer to set it 3 at pushes of the down button.
But I whenever restart or when the screen turns off automatically after inactivity, it just resets back into the full brightness. Is there anyway to make it 'remember' the brightness that I set it to?
I have Acer 6935 (P8400, GF9600 512 DDR3, 4 GB RAM DDR3) and use Vista 64 bit. Today I have noticed a strange behavior of my laptop when the battery is used (power save scheme is on).
On the beginning, the battery is fully charged. I start listening music or watching a movie, it does not matter. It takes about 1 hour, for example.
The battery is about 50-60% full (1h 30 min left) and suddenly the laptop goes to standby. When I turn it on, turns out that only 9% of the battery left. The wireless and the Bluetooth are off. I use Vista 64 bit.
The laptop is only 6 months and the battery has not been hard used.
I am using Sony Vaio SZ. My operating system crashed, When I start my computer, it shows the following message. error: loading operating system. I know I can format and reinstall factory settings if I click F10 at startup. But I first want to save my files. Can I start MS DOS than copy files to external drive or is there any other way?I have all my files in that laptop.
Dropped computer during move, lost all the disks and paperwork.Hard drive was damaged so purchased new one locally..Downloaded ISO win 7 86,installed used original validation. It booted up all fine but no drivers for mouse or Ethernet or wifi actually no drivers.Mouse works.
How can I download the drivers and save them to CD/DVD and install on machine.
I have a zbook with a nvidia quadro 610m graphics. I cannot get the gpu to save settings or engage when playing games. It was working until I tried to give windows 8 a try.I did a fresh install of windows 8. Then I installed the hp drivers cd that came with workstation. Everything says it completed successfully and I've rebooted multiple times.  When I open the nvidia control panel, none of the settings I change stick. E.g. tell every program to use the 610m. I click apply it looks like it was successful. However, if I open the nvidia control panel again, all changes are reverted. I restarted after hitting apply too. It doesnt matter what the changes are, they all revert.  I'm guessing I screwed up with the driver install or something but IDK.The device manager says that the 610m is working properly and the driver is up do date.
When I try to backup using OKR the default partition Lenovo D drive is only about 1.5GB so obvioulsy cannot backup there as not enough space. So where do I save it, is the C drive ok or is that just dumb?
I just received my new Dell UltraSharp u2412m monitor! Now I try to connect my Dell XPS15 laptop (via its mini displayport connection) to my new monitor via a mini displayport to displayport cable.Sadly it doesnt seem to connect and the monitor instantly goes into Power Save Mode..the monitor instantly works with an old laptop via vga connection...Plug and play...
I have a Gateway NE71B a friend gave me and it has Windows 8 installed. I had to do some repair to it after a drink was spilled into it but I cleaned it out and its been fine, sorta...  Resuming from sleep doesn't work. It is just black. I have to shutit down and that works fine. It appears that a BIOS upgrade is needed and I downloaded the latest BIOS and tried to update it. It uses some 'InsideH2O' update app. Well it goes to reboot and when it tries to apply the BIOS, it keeps saying that it is an invalid firmware image. I've verifiedd that this is the correct BIOS file. I tried other BIOS versions and none will apply, always getting the error. I've researched the utility, extracted the config and BIOS. I'm tempted to tell it to write without verify (its that fustrating).  One option, that seems to saved most people is to disable Secure Boot. No matter what, I cannot do this. It never saves. I followed the official steps of powering off, then power on, set the admin password, disable Secure Boot, save and exit. Secure Boot always stays enabled. I've tried probably 30 times, 10 different ways and it just won't stick. I also noticed that I cannot change other settings in the BIOS. I can set some to a different value but they always revert back. I cannot get the function keys setting to stay on Function Keys. It always defaults back to Special Keys after reboot. Same thing goes with enabling F12 for boot menu.  I've tried removing the coin battery, which has a charge, shorting out the contacts holding it for about a minute, removed power battery and power cable, letting it sit but still no good. I've also tried removing the hard drive. Where is the BIOS data being stored and can it be wiped?  I've been considering getting an Acer laptop but this is starting to steer me away. Definately not getting a Gateway.
On my T410 i was able to save my username and password to my network so that loggin in was super quick. Sit, swipe, and surf.  Now on my t440s the finger print reader software only allows you to save your password.  So i have to:
1. ctrl-alt-delete 2.  type my user name 3. swipe (it would be just as fast to type from there)..
HP pavilion model -17-e054ca  After upgrade to Window 8.1 PRO I seeC: 932 GBD: 28 GB -listed as recovery. I want to save system image backup Currently to create system image backup I have only option to create image on external drive or on D:

3. If for some reasons I want to reinstall OS from set of recovery DVD(s) to factory setting what is going to happen with partion E:
Something recently happened to my laptop, and now whenever I boot up my laptop, I get a message stating that "No drive detected", and I don't know if the hard drive might be damaged or not.
I tried connecting the hard drive directly to a desktop pc since it's a sata hard drive, but my desktop pc just froze on the boot screen whenever this hard drive was connected.
I also was going to try and use a hard drive external case to maybe connect it to the pc this way, but I wasn't sure if it would work
I just got my MBP yesterday and I noticed that my Documents and Downloads stacks do not look like folders, they look like PDF files. How do I get them to look like the normal folders?
i've been receiving inumerous spams since i started using adium. I googled for a solution and it was a simple one, to change the privacy settings to only allow messages from contact list, however, when i close the program and open again, savings are reseted to receiving messages from anyone.
This laptop is advertised as having 8 hours battery life, but even when i turn my screen brightness right down and run in power saving mode i can just get 6 hours, is this normal or is there a fault with my laptop?
I have a 1 yr old Macbook Unibody (13.3"- Late 2008 model).
I have the 2.4Ghz version.
Anyway, here's what I have:
Original Batt Capacity = 4100mAh. Current = 3953mAh (can dip to 3800 at times) Battery Load cycles = 58
I'm currently running on batteries. I only have my browser opened along with some widgets and WIFI. I've taken all energy saving steps as well (lowest possible brightness on screen and keys) Currently sitting on 86% w/ 3 hours left..............
Looks like our hunches about what's inside the next MacBook Pros are panning out: AppleInsider hears that Apple's got new MacBook Pros running that can switch between integrated and discrete graphics automagically, which exactly describes Nvidia's Optimus dual graphics tech.
If you remember, the unibody MacBooks from Oct. 2008 were the first to use Nvidia's GeForce 9400M, a combination chipset/integrated GPU that ridiculously outperformed Intel's own integrated graphics, and the Pro models at the time could switch between power-saving integrated and beefier discrete graphics, though it requires a logout.
Nvidia got cockblocked from making chipsets for Intel's latest-gen chips (read: Core i3, Core i5, Core i7), ruling out using Nvidia's better integrated graphics; Nvidia canned their chipset business entirely. So! Nvidia's Optimus tech works with Intel's crappier integrated graphics that are built onto the same die as the newer Core processors, but even more seamlessly than before—the computer automatically switches between Intel's power-sipping integrated and Nvidia's monster discrete graphics, depending on what you're doing. No logouts required.
In the demo we saw on a Windows machine, the automatic part of the tech has some drawbacks—namely, it's entirely dependent on software to tell your computer which graphics card to run. But Apple's obviously worked pretty closely with Nvidia on graphics before, so it seems logical they're doing so here, too. Though I don't expect we'll know until the new MacBooks finally arrive, whenever that happens (hopefully, soon).
I've installed Flip4Mac and I still can't listen to music that's using the WMP plugin on Firefox. I can't see the play, pause, etc. controls on the website. Sometimes, the music would play, but most of the time it won't. If it does play, I still can't see the controls for it.
