View 8 RepliesMy laptop is an inspiron 1520, about a year old now. Ever since I've had it, the hard disk drive has been making a loud, random click from time to time. Sometimes, it will click twice in the space of two minutes, sometimes it will click only once in two or three days.
Typically it's simply a loud snapping sound, like if you get a pencil and snap it against a wooden desk. It doesn't make any other sounds besides the usual hard drive sounds.
For about a quarter of a second, the system pauses. I think it's related to heat, as it happens most often while playing a graphic-intensive game.
I just got my new x100e laptop today, and i really like it. But, it has a problem.
I am connected to my wireless network at home, and it works properly on my other computers at house. But on the x100e, the connection drops from time to time. Suddenly, the internet is gone, but ten seconds later, the network is back up again.
It's not that big a problem, but it is frustrating to lose the internet from time to time. It happens from every 5 minutes to once 30 minutes.
It really annoys me that my new laptop, (Just a week old) when turned on takes a very long time before it starts. After the HP logo, it will show a blank page where my cursor can be moved, then it will stay a very a long time so I end up shutting it down then turning on again and again until it finally starts up. This really takes a lot of my time specially I use my laptop for work.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am recently having a problem where after I shutdown my XPS12 sometimes the fan will continue to run and won't stop till the battery dies. Recently I shutdown my full charged computer and but it in my laptop bag. I show up to office and realize my bag is scorching hot and its because my laptop was still "on" yet the screen was blank and the keyboard light was off. The battery only had 10% running. The computer was so hot I was afraid it was going to melt. This is the second time this has happened.
Summary:
XPS12 fan stays on after shutdown and the screen has turned off and the keyboard light is out. The computer wont turn on or off and the only way to stop the fan is to hold the off switch. Computer then powers on like normal. I believe the processor is also running as the computer get extremely hot and will only shutdown once the battery is drained.
Got our new XPS-15, 9530 Base model last night, and the WFIF will not stay on.
Over 2 hours on the phone with Tech Support, and they are sending out a Tech to replace the WIFI card. I'm not even sure it is the WIFI card as he gave up trouble shooting it when he couldn't stay on Remote Access.
the worst of it was the two hours on the phone, it was pure hell, and I told the Techs supervisor about it afterwards.
I hope this isn't the future of this computer, as a new non functioning computer is not a good start.
This is really pushing me towards an Apple MacBook Pro.
I bought a dell 1558 studi laptop and when I turned it on the fans were running like crazy, I installed speed fan and the cores (i5) were at 60 deg at idle. Bought some Arctic silver, cleaned it with the Arctic cleaners and skimmed it on as usual.I replaced the GPU and 2 smaller chips thermal stickers with Pyobia 7wt and slapped it back togther - jobs a good un.
But when it turns on from stone cold, windows starts up and goes to desktop. I can run speedfan and the cores are at 45degs, the fans then kick in successively faster and then the sceen goes black - computer still powered up fans running. If I then restart it takes less time for the screen to go black - fans now running at vmax..It will happily sit in the Bios screen like a champ, (fans on max mind).
I have a N5110 that just recently started acting up.When I turn it on, it shows me the dell screen and then it tries to boot windows but then it turns off right away. Sometimes it gets far enough to show me a black screen with white lettering that says windows boot manager and wants me to select windows 7 as the operating system but when I try to hit enter to select it, the laptop wont respond and it turns off.
I tried pressing f12 and running diagnostics. Sometimes it will respond and let me get to the blue boot device screen but then it stops responding and wont let me run the diagnostic, then it turns off.
This also happened yesterday but after a few tries i was able to run the diagnostic and it came back saying everything was great, then my laptop rebooted and worked just fine. But today when I try to turn it on it wont work, I have been at it for over an hour.also, when i try to boot it, it will sometimes give me beep codes: 2 beeps, then 1 long beep. It only has time to do this once before it turns off.
I just got an Inspiron 17R a day ago with Window 8 and have been fairly lost in operating it and Windows 8.
1. How I can set the NUMLK to stay on after powering off?
2. How do I turn on the back lighting for the keyboard?
3. Is there a manual somewhere that would explain the computer keys and functions?
I just purchased a 15R and the number lock key does not stay on. I also purchased an R17 in December and that laptop holds the number lock.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs anyone else having a hard time keeping the M1730 power cord plugged in to the back of the laptop?
Mine is constantly falling out.
My Inspiron 15R SE which I purchased from Dell Canada in February 2013 recently acted up on me. It was just like any other day, I run the laptop battery down, then plug in the power adapter when its low.
This time however, the laptop just suddenly shutdown (not through Windows, like just up and died). I tried to power it up again and each time, barely 30 seconds after it powers up, it just up and dies.
I had to do work on it so I thought I let it sit for awhile to charge the battery, thinking that I can run it on battery at least. But alas I left it there for even a whole night and the battery did not even charge a drop.
I then tried removing the battery and only running on power adapter only but it won't even start. I have also tried another power adapter but the same issue persists so I can safely rule out the power adapter.
The power port doesn't look damaged either seeing as I have always loyally bought Dell throughout the years, and I really need to get work done (it is my primary computer).
I have an inspiron n4010. I replaced the battery and it worked for a couple of weeks. But now, it won't turn on or stay on if it's not plugged in. And I can't have it plugged in all the time. It says that it's plugged in but not charging.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHad a laptop for just over 2 years so out of warranty. The laptop will not stay on for longer than 30 seconds - 1 minute, it doesn't matter what I'm doing (tried going into everything, Bios, safe mode, etc). I've bought a new battery and nothing has changed.
The laptop has had overheating problems in the past, whereby it would turn off if the fan was in someway impeded. Since this problem I have tried blowing into the fan and even used a hoover but nothing has worked.
Does it sound like its an issue with a fan or something else?
My Inspiron 1545 use to randomly shuts down (direct shutdown), I think i was due to over heating because i could feel the bottom of the laptop get really hot, so i started to have the laptop elevated for better air flow, that worked for a little while but then it would have the same problem, i have not cleaned the inside of the laptop or ever opened it, but i plan to do it to see whats going on, i don't think i have a warranty on it anymore so i think will experiment, but before i do that, i wanted to know what could be the cause of this problem, my best guess is i need to clean it or replace the CPU fan.
Also, I left my laptop in the car overnight and i was really cold out, after that night, now the laptop doesn't stay on more than 2 mins.....
We thought there was a hard drive issue on my laptop Dell sent replacement drive(It showed drive missing on diags). However, it appears the original issue was the drive was coming loose from the connector. Now anytime I set the laptop down or on the side the hard drive comes loose. We can not find any type of strap or screw that holds the hard drive in place. It is a model N5040. All screws were tightened and none appear to be missing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like very much for the USB ports (or at least one of them) to stay on when the computer is in sleep. I travel frequently and hotel rooms have limited power and I would like to keep my mobile phone plugged into the laptop. I've seen you answer a few questions on USB limitations and settings...
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 2 year old spilled juice on my new laptop about 3 weeks ago, and now when I power it on it goes to the boot screen, the blue bar doesn't finish loading and it turns off. Ok, today I was just trying things. It's 3 buttons at the top right of the laptop, if I hold the middle one the computer will boot, stay on and I can do everything as normal. But if I let that button go, it turns right off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just received my new Aspire One (I actually bought two from Circuit City) and one will NOT boot up. (The second works fine!) I've fully charged the battery. It will boot up to a warning message that a password is incorrect. (It won't stay on the screen long enough to read completely.) The machine seems to loop through the startup process a couple times, and then just powers down. I've tried stopping at SETUP (F2), but it will power down in that screen, too.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a new Inspiron 7000 series that I'm setting up. I have a restore app running to download a sizable amount of data from my old backup to this new computer.
Although I have the laptop plugged in and told it to NEVER sleep when plugged in - and I adjusted the hard drive (advanced power management) to stay awake for 120 minutes, it still seems to be going to sleep after a short (less than 1 hour period of time).
I have to hit the power button and wait for the screen saver, then I swipe it out of the way and must login to my laptop. The restore application stops running when it goes into this sleep mode.
Frustrating as my settings all seem to imply the system should stay awake.
My D630 wakes up in he middle of the night fo apperantly no reason at all. The only program that is running is Outlook Express or maybe nothing at all.
Windows is password protcted so only the log on page comes up but it will download Emai messeges. How can I keep this D630 from waking up on it's own.
I desperately do NOT want my back light to turn off after 30 seconds or whatever it is. I want it to STAY ON. There must be a setting for this. Where is it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried control panel display settings.
Then I've been to advance settings.
And finally I've checked Energy Manager to make sure that it's not set to switch off.
None of this makes any difference at all. It still switches off after a few minutes whethet it's plugged in or not.
Purchased HP Pavilion x360. Everytime I go to use my laptop I have to reconnect the WIFI through network diagnostics. How can I keep my WIFI connected?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using an Hp 2000 Notebook PC, and the wireless adapter that came installed on the computer is a Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter. I have run the driver update tool, and it says that I have the most up to date driver installed. I have also run the "Diagnose Problem" tool, and it says that there are no problems. However, the computer constantly looses internet connection. I assume it has something to do with the wireless adapter, because all of the other wireless devices in the house have no issues. The operating System is Windows 7.
