Dell :: Upgrading From A 5400rpm Hdd To A 7200rpm Hdd

Jul 10, 2009

I skimped a little on the hard drive when I ordered my xps1640. Since then I have set up raid on my desk top & notice a huge improvement. Since doing that my xps has started to seem very sluggish. Would there be much of a noticeable speed increase taking out my xps 5400rpm hdd & replacing with a 7200rpm hdd?

Dell :: 320GB 5400RPM Vs. 200GB 7200RPM ...

Feb 23, 2008

I'm looking to spend a little tax money on a HDD upgrade, but I'm just a little curious what everyone else on here thinks about my options and what you would do if it were you?

I can either go with the 320GB Western Digitial SATA300 or a 200GB 7200RPM alternative.

Tom's Hardware has a review of some of the recent additions to the 320 5400RPM Drives and they say the performance is at or above any 7200RPM drives out there.

HP/Compaq :: Hp Dv7t Laptop: 5400rpm Vs 7200rpm

Mar 23, 2009

Has anyone been able to tell a difference between 5400 rpm and 7200?

I think awhile back i ran some benchmarks, there may have been a little bit of a jump between the two.. but i cant recall if in the real world it was that noticeable.

i took a look at some relative numbers, i think the performance mark diskmark for a 7200 rpm drive was around 388, while on the 5400 it was 255, thats a 35% jump if accurate.
Also, i'm not sure if 7200rpm would drain the battery quicker etc..

I had initially orded it with a single 320gb 5400 rpm, i was thinking of adding a 2nd (primary) 7200 rpm drive.

Also.. are these hp dv7ts using sataI or sataII drives?

Apple :: WD5000BEVT (500GB 5400RPM) - 1.5Gb/s

Jul 19, 2009

I am planning on upgrading my stock 120GB to a WD 500GB 5400RPM HDD. Because of SATA limitations on my 2007 MBP, it has transfer rates of 1.5Gb/s and not 3.0Gb/s. I was told that HDD's do have firmware or jumpers that can use 1.5Gb/s.

I've seen alot of members who have used this HDD, but I'm not sure if you guys have 1.5Gb/s or 3.0Gb/s transfer rates and whether or not it will work with this HDD. Can you guys clarify this issue for me?

Dell :: NO 7200RPM On I1720 = On Crack

Sep 19, 2007

I'm trying to grasp this one... but my mind can not wrap around it, so here goes. I just got off the phone with Dell University sales and talked to the rep. Since the i1720 came out in July I have spec'ed and spec'ed and seen that IT DOES NOT COME WITH OR HAVE OFFERED A 7200RPM HD.

I have a e1705, my dad has one, my girlfriend has one, and my uncle has one... all on my recommendation. I have dabbled/worked in the IT industry since I was 10 and I can't believe that this speed RPM is not offered.

5400RPM existed clear back in 1994.

I just bought my GF a 7200RPM 7k200 200GB Hitachi HD with 16mb of cache for her e1705 from NewEgg.

When we ordered all of our e1705's we intentionally ordered them with the cheapest HD's cause we ordered 7k100 7200RPM 100GB Hitachi's from Froogle searches.

Am I the only one that can't wrap his/her mind around this one....

Dell :: Segate 250G 7200RPM -- Gets Too Hot

Jun 20, 2009

I am hating this drive big time.. performance is good, but the heat on left side of the palm rest is unberable. After few mins of placing the palm on left hand rest it is burning my veins... I still feel the burn sensation for long time even after taking the hand out.

All the guys w/ Segate 250G 7200rpm experience the same? I have 2 E6400s, both have same HD, same heat problem. Seems like a bad designed drive... probably have to start looking at SSDs, but damn those too expensive!

Dell :: XPS M1530 -Upgraded To 7200rpm HDD...no Difference..

May 29, 2009

I just upgraded from a WD 5400rpm HDD to a WD scorpio black 7200rpm HDD. Despite reading people saying it makes a noticeable difference...

I have yet to notice any difference in terms of access times and system performance.

Transfer times with my external HDD have decreased but apart from that, it all feels the same.

Maybe I expected too much but I'm kind of disappointed. Is it just me or has anyone else experienced the same

HP/Compaq :: 7200rpm

Feb 7, 2009

I upgraded the hdds in my DV9543 to 7200rpm's. I didn't copy anything onto the new drives I simply installed Vista onto them, after trying several times unsuccessfully to install XP.

The problem is windows doesnt see the 2nd drive when I go to my computer it only shows one of the drives. Has anyone ever experienced this? Anyone know how to fix it?

I tried to do a search but couldn't find anything, I thought I would try here before HP customer service I have asked them a few questions before and it seems to me that they are reading from a script or something and wouldn't be able to help if they didn't have a manual.

Has anyone got any similar experience with this or a similar laptop?

HP/Compaq :: Envy Owners: Raid Using HD 7200rpm

From HP website:
Versatile storage options include the ability to add two solid-state drives in a RAID-0 configuration to improve the overall speed of the ENVY 15 while providing excellent disk performance.

Now my question:
It's possible to use RAID 0 using two HD 7200rpm?
The default one comes with 500GB Seagate then I'll buy another one of this + the hd caddy and cable to install it.

Apple :: Impact Of The 7200rpm HD In New 17" MBP On Battery Life And Boot Time

Jul 18, 2009

I am considering buying a 17" MBP mainly as a desktop replacement for my PC, since I really don't stand it anymore.

Hence, I am going to ask 2 basic questions but I have not been able to find precise answers to them:

1. what's the impact on battery life of having a 7200rpm HD in the new 17" MBP? Will I still have my around 7hrs of juice?

2. what's the impact on boot time? I have just tested the 5400rpm version, and I didn't find it exceedingly quick, i.e. it took him around 47 seconds to boot. Would the 7200rpm decrease this?

One possibility would be to buy the standard version, and then, in a few months, upgrade with a 256 Go SSD...

Dell :: Upgrading CPU In My M90

Apr 28, 2009

I ordered my M90 on Dell Outlet a while ago. Top of the line everything except the CPU. It's a T2300, I believe (Core Duo, 1.6 Ghz). In preparation for Windows 7, I want upgrade the CPU for speed and for 64 bit.

I'm looking at a T7200 (2.0 Ghz, 667 fsb) for under $100 new, but pulled. First off, just to double check, this will work in my laptop, right?

Second, how involved is replacing the CPU? I've built desktops before no problem, and I've repaired my wife's screen on her HP, but never on my M90. I assume it won't be too bad as long as I follow the manual and keep track of parts.

Dell :: What's The Best OLD 17 To Buy For Upgrading?

Jan 26, 2009

I've been putting together cheap, old Gateway Solo 9550 notebooks for a few years now. They use the Coppermine 1066, which is just good enough for Win2KPro, and really light work.

I got a great deal on my Inspiron 9200 from Dell only to find it discontinued just weeks later. My fault, but then again, I got the best I could afford at the time, which was the most slimmed down version.

Here & there, I upgraded everything; CPU, RAM, hdd, DVD-RW, added Bluetooth, better battery, etc.

But I've reached the limit. I can't even overclock it .....

Dell :: Upgrading A Latitude XT HDD

Feb 2, 2010

I bought this the other day for my Latitude XT:

http://www.amazon.com/32GB-1-8-inch-...4&sr=8-2-fkmr0

Wanted to replace the 4200rpm hard drive currently in there with something faster. I updated the BIOS to A09 (January 2010) to prevent any compatibility issues. I plugged it in and booted the computer, popped my Windows CD in, goes through the pre-load stuff. When it gets to the part about setting up (prior to where it asks about formatting and all that) I get a BSOD.

Sorry for the brief description but I'm trying to work on it while I type. Any suggestions? Do I have it plugged in incorrectly? What should I be looking for?

EDIT: I checked for the hard drive in the BIOS. There's not many options to see what HDD is detected. However, when my 80GB drive is connected it shows "80 GB drive". When I have the SSD plugged in nothing shows up in the BIOS for it. Does this mean the SSD is not compatible with my machine?

EDIT2: Forgot to mention their website claims it's compatible with my laptop:

http://www.activemp.com/SSD/18-IDE-P...SD-upgrade.htm

EDIT3: I sent them a "polite" e-mail about my situation and will let you all know if I have any success.
