Dell :: How Does The 7200rpm HDD Perform?
Apr 2, 2009Definitely it has faster reading and writing speed, but what about the heat and noise? Besides,
I also heard that with a 7200rpm HDD the body of e6400 may even vibrate when in use.

Ive not had my M1730 for very long, just over a month. Its always used on mains as it doesn`t leave the house, today i accidentally forgot to plug into into the mains so it started on battery.
The battery is always in the laptop so it has 100% charge, when using it on battery everything was lethargic, when i opened a browser it would open very dim and faint and then very slowly load. Icons and photos were struggling to load on some websites.
Should the battery perform exactly as it does on mains, this one to me seems as though its showing 100% but its not giving 100% power, its like the battery only has a bit of power left in it and its struggling to open and operate things.
How to perform a Factory Restore, from the Restore Partition. I'm unable to boot the computer. into windows.
Last time I recall it was CTRL-11 upon boot, didn't work for me.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition Laptop with Windows 8, bought on 12/16/2012. The Dell Backup and Recovery version 1.0.0.2 does not seem to work properly when using the "Recovery Media" option (“Create a copy of your factory image in case of critical hardware failure.”) for doing a "Factory Backup" with Discs.I am using new Maxell DVD+R discs.
After the first disc is written and validated it is ejected. A new blank disc is requested, placed in the drive, and then OK is clicked, and the new disc is in for a short while and then ejected without anything being written to it. Also, the DVD is still listed in the File Explorer as "DVD RW Drive (D:) Recovery" even though no DVD is in the drive and the drive tray is in (normally, when there is no DVD in the drive the DVD drive is no longer shown in the File Explorer).
If the backup is canceled and a blank disc is placed back in, then checking the properties of the disc shows 0 GB available and 0 GB Used - this error is corrected by Restarting the computer. After the Restart the disc is properly shown to have 3.9GB Available and 0GB Used.I tried again to do the backup and the same thing happened, with only the first disc actually being written and validated. That first disc is named “Recovery” and it does contain folders: Boot, EFI, preload, and Recovery. It has files: AUTORUN.INF, BOO.MGR, BOOTMGR, BOOTMGR.EFI, MASTERLOG, and Media.ico. Used space is 3.81 GB.
Since the Dell backup program for the factory image does not seem to recognize that a new blank disc is inserted after it was done with the first disc, I cannot make a backup of the factory image.
I have downloaded the current BIOS for the N5110 to upgrade for a Windows 8 upgrade. However, this may sound rather trite but I cannot find any explicit instructions on how to perform the BIOS update. even pointing me to a process procedure that has been written to follow.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've already posted another thread about the issues I'm having with my Acer 5535 however I have a another question that I was meaning to ask about it. If I wanted to restore the laptop to it's factory settings, the laptop I had previously came with a Recovery DVD, this one did not.
How do I perform a clean install? I know there is some sort for recovery partition on the HD, but how do I start the process?
I own an inspiron 1545 which works properly for the most part, except for a small, but annoying problem. Sometimes, when I type, instead of characters or numbers appearing on the screen, the computer would perform random tasks like try to open a file when I press O (and I am not holding down the Ctrl key), save my work when I press S (again, no Ctrl key), and change my typing language. It used to run on Vista, and was recently upgraded to 7, but the problem persists.
For example, typing the word 'frustration' would sometimes lead to this:
frustrati (Open dialogue box appears)
It's especially annoying when it changes the typing language mid-sentence.
I have been having some performance issues with some of my games. I tried to fix it with no success. I figured I should update my BIOS, which I haven`t since I bought my laptop.
I downloaded the BIOS update (3238) from the Acer website. I clicked on the application and it brought me to WinPlash64. It automatically started the bios update, but it got stuck on Flash New BIOS. I had to shutdown my laptop since the BIOS did not update.
how to flash my BIOS properly or tell me what I`m doing wrong?
I skimped a little on the hard drive when I ordered my xps1640. Since then I have set up raid on my desk top & notice a huge improvement. Since doing that my xps has started to seem very sluggish. Would there be much of a noticeable speed increase taking out my xps 5400rpm hdd & replacing with a 7200rpm hdd?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am about to receive my brand new XPS 1530 and it was ordered with the 320gig 5400RPM drive. I will mainly be using the system as a light weight gaming/entertainment laptop as i travel.
I am considering buying a new 500gig 7200rpm HDD but i want to know first if it will make that big of a performance different?
I'm trying to grasp this one... but my mind can not wrap around it, so here goes. I just got off the phone with Dell University sales and talked to the rep. Since the i1720 came out in July I have spec'ed and spec'ed and seen that IT DOES NOT COME WITH OR HAVE OFFERED A 7200RPM HD.
I have a e1705, my dad has one, my girlfriend has one, and my uncle has one... all on my recommendation. I have dabbled/worked in the IT industry since I was 10 and I can't believe that this speed RPM is not offered.
5400RPM existed clear back in 1994.
I just bought my GF a 7200RPM 7k200 200GB Hitachi HD with 16mb of cache for her e1705 from NewEgg.
When we ordered all of our e1705's we intentionally ordered them with the cheapest HD's cause we ordered 7k100 7200RPM 100GB Hitachi's from Froogle searches.
Am I the only one that can't wrap his/her mind around this one....
I am hating this drive big time.. performance is good, but the heat on left side of the palm rest is unberable. After few mins of placing the palm on left hand rest it is burning my veins... I still feel the burn sensation for long time even after taking the hand out.
All the guys w/ Segate 250G 7200rpm experience the same? I have 2 E6400s, both have same HD, same heat problem. Seems like a bad designed drive... probably have to start looking at SSDs, but damn those too expensive!
I own an Envy m6-k025dx TS Sleekbook (product number: E0K45UA#ABA). How to perform a clean installation of Windows 8.1.

I'm looking to spend a little tax money on a HDD upgrade, but I'm just a little curious what everyone else on here thinks about my options and what you would do if it were you?
I can either go with the 320GB Western Digitial SATA300 or a 200GB 7200RPM alternative.
Tom's Hardware has a review of some of the recent additions to the 320 5400RPM Drives and they say the performance is at or above any 7200RPM drives out there.
I just upgraded from a WD 5400rpm HDD to a WD scorpio black 7200rpm HDD. Despite reading people saying it makes a noticeable difference...
I have yet to notice any difference in terms of access times and system performance.
Transfer times with my external HDD have decreased but apart from that, it all feels the same.
Maybe I expected too much but I'm kind of disappointed. Is it just me or has anyone else experienced the same
Which settings are optimum to allow a downgrade to MS Windows 7 on a HP Envy 17 TouchSmart J023CL laptop where the BIOS is F.43?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded the hdds in my DV9543 to 7200rpm's. I didn't copy anything onto the new drives I simply installed Vista onto them, after trying several times unsuccessfully to install XP.
The problem is windows doesnt see the 2nd drive when I go to my computer it only shows one of the drives. Has anyone ever experienced this? Anyone know how to fix it?
I tried to do a search but couldn't find anything, I thought I would try here before HP customer service I have asked them a few questions before and it seems to me that they are reading from a script or something and wouldn't be able to help if they didn't have a manual.
I am trying to find out if you guys have the same issue.
I have ST9500420AS Momentous Seagate 7200rpm 500GB HDD. Since day one I am feeling a light vibration in the laptop next to the touchpad. This is not too bad but is very annoying since it is constantly there.
For those who have a 7200 rpm Seegate drive please see if you have this issue. It is noticeable when fan is off.
Have a Precision M65, 2ghz Centrino Duo, Nvidia Quadro FX350M GPU, 7200RPM HDD, 4GB RAM, and Vista 64 Ultimate.
I play WoW on this laptop, and find that the entire lower chassis gets VERY hot. Have installed RivaTuner which monitors GPU temperature, and the GPU seems to run at up to 83C...! This seems to be pretty hot.
Has anyone got any similar experience with this or a similar laptop?
what model HDD this is?

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhich drive is the better choice between the 128GB SSD (MLC) vs 320GB 7200rpm options currenlty on the Z690.
I've heard the MLC SSD's are fast in certain areas, but arent always the best options vs the 7200rpm drives yet... and have some issues with multi-tasking, etc. So basically, my question is how is the 128GB Samsung MLC rated vs the 7200rpm drives Sony uses?
I know that Envy 15 has the ability to use RAID using the Dual SSD option:
From HP website:
Versatile storage options include the ability to add two solid-state drives in a RAID-0 configuration to improve the overall speed of the ENVY 15 while providing excellent disk performance.
Now my question:
It's possible to use RAID 0 using two HD 7200rpm?
The default one comes with 500GB Seagate then I'll buy another one of this + the hd caddy and cable to install it.
Has anyone been able to tell a difference between 5400 rpm and 7200?
I think awhile back i ran some benchmarks, there may have been a little bit of a jump between the two.. but i cant recall if in the real world it was that noticeable.
i took a look at some relative numbers, i think the performance mark diskmark for a 7200 rpm drive was around 388, while on the 5400 it was 255, thats a 35% jump if accurate.
Also, i'm not sure if 7200rpm would drain the battery quicker etc..
I had initially orded it with a single 320gb 5400 rpm, i was thinking of adding a 2nd (primary) 7200 rpm drive.
Also.. are these hp dv7ts using sataI or sataII drives?
My hard drive just failed on my pavilion dv2700. I was told I could upgrade from a 5400rpm drive to a 7200rpm. Is this true? And what hard drives do you recommend?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am considering buying a 17" MBP mainly as a desktop replacement for my PC, since I really don't stand it anymore.
Hence, I am going to ask 2 basic questions but I have not been able to find precise answers to them:
1. what's the impact on battery life of having a 7200rpm HD in the new 17" MBP? Will I still have my around 7hrs of juice?
2. what's the impact on boot time? I have just tested the 5400rpm version, and I didn't find it exceedingly quick, i.e. it took him around 47 seconds to boot. Would the 7200rpm decrease this?
One possibility would be to buy the standard version, and then, in a few months, upgrade with a 256 Go SSD...
