The uefi bios recovery does not work on my computer nether has the .exe files that are bios... I would like to try flashing the BIOS but don't know where to go...

Guess the old one went kaput (even though i just bought this pc on eBay not a month or two ago). So, I have a new hard drive now, but no OS. Is there anyway to retrieve my Windows 8 from the busted hd, or do I also now have to pay for a brand new OS?
I do have a SATA/USB cable that could possibly aid in the transfer if it is possible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI changed my HP to boot with legacy CSM, but I couldn't boot from the Windows 7 boot disc. The laptop was shipped with Windows 8 configured for UEFI boot before my change. The screen after boot is blank and now I can't even get to the bios menu.
I have tried a Windows 8 USB recovery drive, but the computer doesn't seem to try to boot from flash, even with the hard drive disconnected and the CD tray open.
I watched a video of a man disassembling an HP Pavilion completely down to the base plate, but I did not see a back-up or RTC battery anywhere in the computer. If I could find the bios back-up battery for removal or reset the bios somehow with the hardware, i would do that. I waited for 4 hours without the main battery attached without any change. At this point I don't know if this model Pavilion even has backup battery. How to reset the bios to default UEFI setting without a bios menu? Note that pushing F2/F8/F9/F10/F11 and a whole bunch of other keys does not bring up the bios menu at boot time (like it did when it was in UEFI mode).
My next steps are to use the HP Recovery Media application on a 2nd computer to create 6 Window 8 DVDs and see if these will boot from the CD. If that doesn't work, I'll contact HP support and see if they can send me a custom recovery disc.
It seems strange to me that I can't even get to a bios menu in legacy mode. Is this normal? I suspect that my configuration change corrupted something and no booting will work any more. If booting from disc doesn't work, I think I'm stuck with trying to drain whatever back-up power source keeps the bios in-state, however long that is.

Guess the old one went kaput (even though I just bought this pc on eBay not a month or two ago). I have a new HD and a Windows 8 reinstall software from a dealer on eBay. I tried multiple routes in attempting to reinstall the OS resulting in as many dead ends*.The last thing offered up was to delete partitions in the new HD. I looked at an eHow page, How to Delete Partitions on a Hard Drive. It says to get a CD that includes fdisk.com. I burned super fdisk (2 MB) from SFbootablecd.iso and fdisk (40 MB) from fd11src.iso. I went to the BIOS to configure the boot order. I put Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive first, saved it and tried both CDs. It always just boots to a screen with this:

I even tried putting USB CD/DVD ROM Drive first…same results.
So, my questions to you, I guess, is firstly, why are the fdisk CDs not booting? Did I burn the wrong fdisk? Secondly, do you know why my OS couldn’t be installed using the reinstall software? I’m assuming the software is legit and the computer did in fact originate with Windows 8.

Another route for Windows Setup, I get to this: Select the driver to install: Browse for Folder - Browse to the driver, and then click OK.It gives you the list under "Computer" which includes "CD Drive (E HRM_CCSA_X64FRE_EN-US_DV5" (the reinstall software) and underneath that, the folders - boot - efi - sources - support.Picking just the E drive itself, message appears: Load driver: No signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK.
I've recently reset my laptop to factory default using the Windows 8 Reset option, and now when I want to access the UEFI settings I get a onekey recovery prompt instead. Is there any way to bypass it because I just transfered my files back and I don't want to reset everything again.

My mom's laptop failed over a week ago. It wouldn't get past repairing disc errors, even if left alone for 8+ hours. I tried the windows Reset option from the advanced repair menu (Originally came with Windows 8). It started the reset process, but since it was going extremely slow, and I had to work the next day, I left it to go over night. I'm not sure what happened, but it wouldn't even let me get to the advanced options menu anymore. So I ordered the recovery discs from HP.
Those came on Friday, and I have been working with changing different settings in the BIOS, yet I still can't get the notebook to boot from the 1st cd. It says "Push any key to boot from CD/DVD" which I then hit enter, and it just black screens for up to 45 minutes. I'm not ure how the BIOS needs to be set up, and I'm not sure why it would give me that message, then not boot. When i hit F11 during startup, It shows the HP Logo for a while, then black screens for about 20 minutes, then I get an error page saying there is a necessary disc or device missing. I have disconnected and reconnected the hard drive, reseated the RAM.

I have an HP 2000-2b89WM Product code C2M42UA#ABA that has failed to complete the factory reset. The 1st time it sort of worked from the recovery partition, to windows 8, then during the update process to get 8.1 it failed to install one of the updates and rolled them all back. It would not install any updates after that point.
I tried to do the reset again but it would not run. I tried the DVD's but they wouldn't get past either 14 or 16 percent. I created the backup set on a USB drive from an identical laptop, bought at the same time. The restore from the USB seemed to be working but now the computer acts like it's booting, flashes a screen for about 4 seconds with a box with the time setting and reboots. I cannot access the recovery console or any boot options. It is stuck in this loop with no seeming end.
How to get it out of this loop and restore from the USB again?

In November of 2012, my husband bought me an HP 2000-2b09 laptop (Windows 8 came with it). Anyways, a few months after my husband bought the computer, Windows 8 began slowing my computer down causing it to crash. A friend of ours had a copy of Windows 7, so I out that on there. It worked fine for almost a year until about a week or so ago. My computer somehow got Trojan and Malware viruses that I couldn't get rid of it no matter how hard I tried. That slowed my computer down dramatically.
So bad that I can't even play games on it anymore (I'm a huge Sims fan). I recently tried putting Windows 7 on it again. It worked, but the only issue is, it won't allow me to connect to the internet. I need to install the drivers for it, but I need to be connected to the internet to do it. Is there a way for me to get Windows 8 back on it without buying it? I don't have the money to buy that either. My sister purchased a "Windows Recovery Disk" for my father a few months back. I want to borrow it, but I'm not sure it would recover Windows 8.
It seems as if my computer is caught in a loop. On boot up it is constantly configuring the computer for up date but don't get any further than that. On startup it configures my computer for up date. But it never ends

View 1 Replies View RelatedBought 5530 in August but already need to run recovery disks as the photo gallery constantly crashes and using restore to an earlier date does not work. I burnt two DVD's when I got it and they looked OK. However after changing start up in BIOS to dvd drive then restarting holding down f8, when pressing the complete restore tab nothing happens except a message saying no restore dvd or HD can be found. Cannot think what to try as the disks and dvd drive appear fine. I wish they included the disks with machine like sony do then you would be 100% sure it is not the disks at fault. Anyone else encounter this? I am sure the problem with the photo gallery is not a virus as I do not use the machine on the internet

I finally ordered one from the Store, and tried it out tonight. I set the boot order to USB HDD, and, well, nothing happens!
