I think there will be no problems with BIOS whitelist but there may be problems with heatsink fit...

I just got a 8730w (non-dreamcolor) and experience serious backlight bleeding. It's kind of irritating because it's obvious. Brightness set at around half only.
Does HP warranty cover this?
I have an HP Elitebook 8730w with microsoft XP OS. I use the lap top to run an instrument so it is on at all times. We have turned off the powersave options, the MS updates and the time sync with the MS website and it still freezes to where Ctrl alt delete doesnt work.

Anyone have issues with these speakers lately. Mine just got back from hp repair and the speakers seem to be no better than before. Tons of static when playing music, tons of static. Most songs are downright terrible, even at lower volume.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am considering buying a 8530w with a intel x9100 and 7200rpm drive. What kind of battery life can expect from this with power save mode on doing web work or watching a blu-ray disc?
How much time do you get with your 8530w?
how do you like the 1900x1200 screen?
I just picked up an 8530w open box item. It's a great laptop, build is really nice, haven't had any of the issues other people have mentioned. But I can't seem to get the bluetooth going. When I ordered it, the description had this to say:
Wireless details:
Intel WiFi Link 5300 (802.11 a/b/g/n draft 2.0)
HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology
I thought that meant that bluetooth would be installed. I did a fresh install of windows xp right when I got it, and then reinstalled all the drivers. I even tried to install the HP Integrated Module driver from the web but it during and after installation it said it could find no bluetooth bits installed. How do I know if it's in there somewhere? Should it be with a description like above? Here's a link to the full description:

Just got one of these, and the power brick is well erm.. a brick!
I need / want to get a third party one that is hopefully smaller, so does anyone know of one suitable? or, if not.. know of what i should be looking at to try and find one?
my plan is to buy an 8530w and swap out the cpu for a Q9100 Quad Core. Anyway, is there special cooling needed for the quad core? I asked only because i noticed that if I tried to add a quad core on the HP website it requires a 'special' graphics card. This got me thinking that they might have added something for the quad cores that they leave out of the normal ones.
View 10 Replies View RelatedHow can I get HP to replace my LCD? I really am rather tired of the support hassles!
A few months ago, I accidentally dropped my EliteBook 8530w (and since I knew it was bound to happen eventually, I did buy it with ADP). After I got the thing back (after waiting on the replacement LCD screen to come in stock, I've noticed some odd issues related to the screen:The screen seems to have some permanent "smudges" on the screen -- dark areas, that I can't clean off.The EDID seems to be messed up -- it misidentifies the panel name, size, and available non-native modes.
The old LCD identified itself properly as an LP154WU1-TLC2. It offered 1920x1200, 1440x900, 1280x800, and such resolutions..................
Just the other day, I was using the fingerprint reader in my EliteBook, when it suddenly refused to log me into the pre-boot authentication; I had to use a password, instead. Now, it seems my fingerprint reader has (electrically) ceased to exist -- it doesn't appear in device manager under Windows or in lsusb under Linux, and the option to "Swipe Finger or Choose Token" at the preboot authentication screen. Does anyone know what would cause this? The first candidate I can think of is the motherboard.
In addition, my system has started behaving oddly when resuming from suspend -- most of the time, resuming from suspend results in the laptop hard-rebooting about 1/2 second later, and then loop back to the BIOS logo a couple of times before going on and booting.
My question: do I just have to send it in for repair, or is there something else I can do?
When I bought the laptop customized, HP did not offer the option for a webcam; ideally, I'd really like to just pay them the difference and have them add a webcam while they're taking the thing apart, anyway. Is there any way to get HP to do this? If anything, they could probably just swap the GPU with another laptop (a preconfigured one with same specs, but nvidia), so I'd have the same specs with ATI, and now a webcam.
My school recommends[read: buy from them] the FM877ut spec 8530w at 1799.
However looking around online, for less I can buy at FM890UA spec'd 8530w.
Do think a "perfect install" disk image from the school's fm887ut will boot without problem on the fm890ua 'book?
To abrievate, the only differences I can see is the Webcam, a T9600 C2 duo and 4 gb ram vs t8600 C2 Duo and 2gb ram.
On regular bases I get a black screen during startup like the HP 8530w didn't finish it's BIOS check to boot into the OS, it will then just hang there until I shut it down and reboot. I believe that this issue is also preventing the comp from coming out of sleep mode as well because I get the same issue at random when the comp has entered sleep mode.
I've got the latest BIOS since Sept. but to no avail, I've tried disabling everything in the BIOS that I'm not using and that didn't change anything either.
I have the HP 8530w and a D-Link DIR-615 wireless router and am trying to make them work together. Using the G speed (54mbit), the network is stable (signal quality is excellent). But when I try the N speed, the situation is different. The network starts working as it should, but when loaded (big files transferred), the network suddenly dies and windows vista can take up to a couple of minutes before it discovers the missing link. During that time, the 5300 AGN still receives packets from the router (10 beacons per second as per setup in the router). But no packets are sent (checking with Intels statistics tool).
So it looks like the Intel 5300 AGN doesn't send any packets all of a sudden OR that the DIR-615 has become temporarily deaf. But disconnecting/reconnecting in vista make the network work right away indicating the problem is with the Intel 5300.
As an ekstra test, I tried having the Asus EeePC 1000H (also has 802.11n draft) transfer the same files while the HP 8530w was and then the network was MUCH more stable. The HP 8530w experienced 1 dropout but the EeePC continued transferring at full speed. Obviously the Intel 5300 AGN has severe problems talking with the DIR-615, problems so big it cannot figure out how to recover normally. :-(
Needless to say, I have tried playing with most settings in the Intel 5300AGN and also with the DIR-615, but without success. The network breaks down, always.
On the plus side, the EeePC 1000H is stable.
I wonder if it is possible to exchange the Intel 5300 in the 8530w with another wireless lan? I'd prefer to have a card that works.
is it possible? how easy is it to do it yourself?
I have an elitebook8530w 2.5ghz core2duo atm and would like to upgrade it if possible.
way to check out laptops before purchase so i would like to hear opinions on 8530w sxga+ screen(1680x1050)
i work primarily on laptop with no external display and 1920x1200 is way too dense for me. as i have seen in reviews wuxga display is quite good, but i have no idea on wsga+ quality
i use my laptop for design, so i'm interested about viewing angles and color rendition
my elitebook 8530w seems to boot up slow w/ 64 bit vista. i did a clean install and installed the drivers. Ex. it will say "please wait" for 20 seconds before going to the "welcome" screen. after "welcome" comes up..it does boot to the desktop very fast and is ready to go though. what is causing vista to hang like this at the welcome screen?
My specs
8GB(4gb x 2) ddr2-667mhz memory
qx9300 quad core processor- this thing is a beast!
vista x64
Via MS windows update there is an update to Nvidia Quadro FX 770m graphics. I installed it, however the screen back light brightness got capped and would not go beyond 2 points (out of 5 points) and hence i had to revert back to original drivers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there some way around this? I ended one of the process one time, I VolCtrl.exe * 32, and it made the onscreen display go away, but then I could no longer adjust the brightness (probably because the onscreen display is identical for both except for a light icon insteam of a volume icon)
With that process not running volume control still worked fine, but screen brightness changing went away, a price I can't afford to pay for that.

When I'm working, typing the keyboard and touchpad hangs. The only thing i can use is the usb mouse.
after logging off and logging back in, I can use the keyboard and touchpad again(once I needed to restart, because loggin and logging off didn't work). It happened with Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit and 64 bits. I have done all the updates, and HP updates also
I have let HP Dealer for my country to check things out, they say the hardware is okay, but the only thing i did not let them use the harddrive, due to confidential data on it. But my problem is that it looses connectivity at random, sometimes after 45 minutes or after 4 hours. Sometimes the laptop freezes during usage of the laptop. I need to do a hard reset(holding the power button for 20 seconds).
I have started Windows without start up programs to no avail. does the same.
I'm using: McAfee antivirus, windows firewall, Toad 9.01, MS OFFICE, ssh programs, FTp programs.
Another colleague has the same laptop with the same operating system on it. with the same antivirus, and he does not have this problem.
I have a EliteBook 8730w sinds 2010 and I just installed Windows 8.1.Now I don't have any access to my SD reader.According to the device manager the SD reader driver is up to date and is working, but I don't see the SD reader in the file explorer. The SD reader is a RICOH.In the device manager I have some problems with Other devices:
1) Base system device
2) Base system device
3) Fingerprint sensor
4) Unknown device
I suppose that the problem must be in Other devices.
can I to upgrade graphic card for this device
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Elitebook 8530w with Windows 7 32-bit. I did not buy this laptop, it was a gift from a friend. I have gotten recently, just a few days ago. I have not used the fingerprint sensor previously before today. I went on the HP site and went to get the driver for the fingerprint sensor. Here is the link to that page. I tried to install the AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Driver but it did not work, it said the installation process was interuppted and to try again later. So I tried again later and the same happened. So I uninstalled and checked to see if there were any later versions. I had not looked to see that the original one I installed from the drivers page was from March 17 2010.
I did some researching around and found version 6.0.100.272 of HP Simplepass (The AuthenTec Driver had HP Simplepass installation included). I installed this version and it worked. I opened it up and it prompted me to enter my windows account password. So I did. I then clicked Set Up Windows Log On and it told me to enter my Windows password again. I did but it didn't work So I tried again... and again... and again... It didn't work no matter how many times I tried. I tried restarting my laptop and changing my account password. Neither worked. So I'm confused as to what could be the problem. I would very much like to use this feature.
I have got Notebook Compaq Presario.. I cant connect to the internet using the wireless connection.. the reason is that i accidentally did some operations, and cannot switch on the light on the front panel of the notebook.. it does not work, i mean the light of the wireless connection button does not light.... I turned off something...
