HP/Compaq :: 8730w- Backlight Bleeding
Jul 10, 2009I just got a 8730w (non-dreamcolor) and experience serious backlight bleeding. It's kind of irritating because it's obvious. Brightness set at around half only.
Does HP warranty cover this?

All the problems with 8730w is it the same with 8530w?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought an HP laptop (d6 series I believe) back in June, and I've been having some issues with it lately.
The laptop's LCD has (what the FS tech's called it at least) "light bleeding". Basically, on the left and right edges of my laptop the screen is faded, kind of orange and pink tinted as well. The best way to see this is using Excel, you can see the lines on the cell grid fade as they get closer to the screen. It's not really a huge deal as far as usability is concerned, but I bought their extended warranty (I know...never again now that I realized my Visa has one) and I figure I may as well get it fixed (especially since I want to sell it and get a smaller laptop).
Anyways, they're telling me it's pressure damage, which I KNOW isn't true. I treat my laptop well, and I had an LG for 3 years that was treated way worse with no signs of damage to the screen. My personal opinion is that it's more likely heat damage. The laptop gets very hot (which is HP's fault, not mine), and I think that may be what's doing it to the LCD. Has anyone else experienced this? My laptop has been shipped to HP for them to take a look, but I feel like they will probably try and get out of fixing it if they can (seeing as FS has already done so). If they return it back and tell me its my fault, any ideas what I should do? I know this isn't physical damage caused by me, and I don't want to have to pay for a new screen because HP built a laptop that is cooking itself. Should I go yell at FS (I think I'd need some factual backup for this...) or just skip around and see if my credit card will cover the warranty?
i just got a new laptop and if i go to a web page or a document with alot of close letters something like this 11111111111111 or lllllllll i get alot of red or green color bleeding in between the letters or numbers. is this normal for a laptop screen or is it a defect that i should be contacting acer on? by the way its a 17 inch screen.
also it is useually when it is all black letters or numbers with a white background
I bought a FW.
On the right part of the screen there was absolutely no blacklight bleeding.
Now it's seems as an internal opening has hatched between the lcd and the bezel and light is passing by. It's like you could see behind the lcd.
When I'm in front of the computer you can barely see it, but being at a certain angle, you can clearly see the white light from top to bottom only interrupted half-way by a one inch dark spot, which I presume is the thing that keeps the lcd glued to the bezel.
My question, is it possible for the lcd screen to have been pushed backwards only on the right part of the lcd during transportation?
new screen/inverter/ backlight installed. NEW screen still black, but visible with flashlight. Went ahead and got ANOTHER inverter off eBay and tried that - screen still black. Haven't ever replaced a backlight, and the operation looks delicate (and expensive to HAVE done) ...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dv9700 that I have owned for over a year and recently upgraded to Windows 7 (about a month ago.) I was happy with how everything was working until suddenly today when I went to turn on my laptop it appeared the screen was dead...upon looking closer I realized that the backlight was off. I could barely make out anything on the screen but it did have an error message stating that Windows failed to boot and gave the option of repairing the system. I went through this "startup repair" utility (still no working backlight) and got my computer to boot up. Everything seems to run normally now except the backlight is still not functioning most of the time (at the moment I have the screen balanced just right so that it is on.) I had a similar problem with my screen about half a year ago but the laptop was still under warranty at the time so HP replaced the screen for free...not the case this time unfortunately I seem to remember reading that flashing the BIOS can solve a problem like this, however there is apparently no support for Windows 7 through HP Support's software and drivers page (I tried installing the latest version of winflash for my laptop...vista 64 bit but got an error message saying it was not compatible with my system)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having some strange problems with the backlight on my dv9700...I started a thread about this maybe 2 months ago but the backlight for whatever reason started working again and I didn't have too many issues with it until recently. Lately the backlight has only been working when it is plugged in...If I unplug it but leave the lid open it still works but as soon as I close the lid and open it again its out until I plug it back in and open and close the lid. Now I can't get the backlight to work at all except it lights up for 2 seconds or so upon closing and opening the lid. I removed the display bezel to access the display inverter and check for any loose or damaged connectors but they all appear to be fine...unplugging and plugging the display panel cable connector back in also causes the backlight to work for 2 seconds and then go out again. Besides the backlight issue the laptop seems to be working perfectly fine...can anyone help me figure this out? I should mention that I upgraded this laptop to Windows 7 right away when it was released.

My insurance will cover this so money isn't really the problem. So I was thinking about buying a backlight keyboard instead of the original black one (which works really annoying in lowlight conditions).
Now I found a thread about backlight keyboard but I'm unable to find out which backlight keyboard is compatible with my laptop. On the motherboard there is input for the keyboard-backlight. So thats not the problem.
I have a DV9000 and the LCD suddenly went dim. I thought the inverter had gone so bought and fitted one. However now when the laptop turns on for the first time I can see the display for maybe 1-5 seconds (5 on initial start, less on soft restarts), but then it goes dim again.
I have tried unplugging AC/Batt and holding power for 20 seconds but it made no difference.
my HP ze4230 laptop Trying to reboot it with a new harddrive it went black on me with no warning.I put the old harddrive back in.Its still dark but I can see in the screen very faintly with a flashlight.I hooked it up to my desktop monitor and it worked well.My problem is,I took the inverter out but how can I tell if its bad or if its the backlight that is bad..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a DV9000 and just yesterday it started where the screen will go black but I can see what is going on on the screen but it is extremely faint. When I close the lid for a few seconds and open it back up it the screen appears like normal but only for about twenty seconds and then returns to the black. If I hook it up to an external monitor and I can see what is going on.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've read the sticky and many threads here but I'm confused. What is the symptons of the backlight/inverter problems?
My DV2000, when power off the monitor is dark, when power on, the monitor lit/iluminated. But nothing on the screen. The harddrive led blinks so it's accessing.
I thought it was inverter so I replaced it with the $8+ from y'allstore. It didn't work.
I accidentally dropped my Compaq Presario C571NR and it fires up Ok, but the screen is black. I have tested the video card with other monitor and it seems to work fine. I did some research and I found that it could be that either the inverter board or the backlight might have gotten damaged. I have purched a new inverter card online (awaiting arrival) to replace the existing one, but I wanted to know if any of you know which of them has the propensity to get damaged first, the inverter or the backlight?
I'm hoping is the inverter because it seems the easiest to replace, but if it's the backlight, then I'm screwed because I've read it's quite difficult to replace and it's more expensive. Compaq says they'll charge me $300 to fix it (since my warranty has already expired) but I might as well get a new one if the new inverter doesn't fix the problem.
i just replaced the previously matte chi mei display on my hp compaq 8510p gb967ea (WSXGA+), with a brand new lg-philips glossy one (both certified for my notebook, of course) and for the first time ever on that notebook (ie. first time since its acquisition summer 2008) i experience backlight issues now.
just like on my very old nx9030 (which happened twice while under warranty, so its been repaired for free, and then once after the warranty period), the backlight keeps turning off by itself or when touching the lid or typing a bit heavier. so i have to close the lid and open it again to make it turn on again!
i watched out for all the cables within the frame and the one going into the inverter board, so none should be squeezed or so.
shall i open it again and look for a specific cable, jack or something like that, whether something is being squeezed?
I recently took my Compaq Presario C714NR laptop on a road trip, and one day some water spilled on the case without me realizing it, so that the case and laptop were wet when I got to my hotel room. The screen no longer illuminates - I can just barely see the proper windows and images on the screen if there is bright light in the room, but it's nearly invisible. I assume that either the backlight is dead or that a wire/connection to the backlight is loose or shorted.
Several months ago I had to replace the screen when the laptop was dropped and the screen broken (bought a new replace ment screen through eBay, replaced it myself), so the screen has had a bit of a hard life.
I'm having this problem with my Pavilion dv9700.

I have let HP Dealer for my country to check things out, they say the hardware is okay, but the only thing i did not let them use the harddrive, due to confidential data on it. But my problem is that it looses connectivity at random, sometimes after 45 minutes or after 4 hours. Sometimes the laptop freezes during usage of the laptop. I need to do a hard reset(holding the power button for 20 seconds).

I have started Windows without start up programs to no avail. does the same.
Â
I'm using: McAfee antivirus, windows firewall, Toad 9.01, MS OFFICE, ssh programs, FTp programs.

Another colleague has the same laptop with the same operating system on it. with the same antivirus, and he does not have this problem.
Alright Well I bought a new inverter plugged it in and it still is doing the same thing. Only when i jiggle the wires the light goes on and i see the screen but not for long. I check for loose conncections but can't find any. The external display is fine. I'm wondering if it could be the actual bulb.
