I've read the sticky and many threads here but I'm confused. What is the symptons of the backlight/inverter problems?
My DV2000, when power off the monitor is dark, when power on, the monitor lit/iluminated. But nothing on the screen. The harddrive led blinks so it's accessing.
I thought it was inverter so I replaced it with the $8+ from y'allstore. It didn't work.
Alright Well I bought a new inverter plugged it in and it still is doing the same thing. Only when i jiggle the wires the light goes on and i see the screen but not for long. I check for loose conncections but can't find any. The external display is fine. I'm wondering if it could be the actual bulb.
I have a DV9000 and the LCD suddenly went dim. I thought the inverter had gone so bought and fitted one. However now when the laptop turns on for the first time I can see the display for maybe 1-5 seconds (5 on initial start, less on soft restarts), but then it goes dim again.
I have tried unplugging AC/Batt and holding power for 20 seconds but it made no difference.
my HP ze4230 laptop Trying to reboot it with a new harddrive it went black on me with no warning.I put the old harddrive back in.Its still dark but I can see in the screen very faintly with a flashlight.I hooked it up to my desktop monitor and it worked well.My problem is,I took the inverter out but how can I tell if its bad or if its the backlight that is bad..
I accidentally dropped my Compaq Presario C571NR and it fires up Ok, but the screen is black. I have tested the video card with other monitor and it seems to work fine. I did some research and I found that it could be that either the inverter board or the backlight might have gotten damaged. I have purched a new inverter card online (awaiting arrival) to replace the existing one, but I wanted to know if any of you know which of them has the propensity to get damaged first, the inverter or the backlight?
I'm hoping is the inverter because it seems the easiest to replace, but if it's the backlight, then I'm screwed because I've read it's quite difficult to replace and it's more expensive. Compaq says they'll charge me $300 to fix it (since my warranty has already expired) but I might as well get a new one if the new inverter doesn't fix the problem.
I have a laptop which has a dim screen, I am not sure if its the inverter or the back light that needs to be replaced. Its a Sony FS-740/w series laptop. I want to be sure which one needs to be replaced so that i can order it online. way to check if the inverter is working correctly.
I have a dell inspiron 600m laptop and my screen is dimmed out. If I turn of my laptop and restart it, the display will come on for a second ( but it is a little bit reddish) and then I hear a noise and it light goes off, and I can;t see anymore. However, I am sure the computer is still running properly
I am sure that the computer is on, and is functioning properly for two reasons:
1- if it is sunny, i can see my desktop, and what ever I have open, be that a browser, a word document, so on and so forth
2-when i connect my laptop to an external display everything is fine...
i have a sony vaio c2z - nvidia geforce 7400; x-black lcd
i have had a lot of problems with my display since august. although i didn't notice at the time, it happened soon after i installed the Win 7 RC.
when i start the laptop up the screen looks all distorted and the colours arent correct:

but when i take screencaps and connect it to another monitor everything looks fine.

i assumed the screen was knackered, but i installed a game a few weeks ago and it brought the display back to life, only for it to look crap again when i restarted. this also happened when i did a clean install of vista, only for the display to go bad when the updates installed.
i have tried many times, but have been unable to replicate this...............
When powering my lappie on, I can hear the fans and the hard drive start, the lights come on but there is no backlight on the monitor. I did a hard boot but nothing. I tried to get into bios pressing ESCAPE or F10 after restart but same nothingness. If I can't get my lappie working, I would at least like to get data off it.
The bottom left part of screen has two through bolts holding the hinge to the screen on my dv5000t.
At first the screen died as I closed the screen and discovered it had broke. This pulled out the display cable, the one from the motherboard. After I plugged it back in all was fine, except my screen was half attached.
So... I took apart the screen and through bolted the hinge to the lid, just below the LCD screen. I noticed a film behind the LCD that is attached to the hinges. I also noticed grounding plates on the inverter. Is the foil part of the grounding for the inverter or screen?
I have quadrupled check the connections. The Wifi LED still works, so I figured the ground is working but I don't know if it has it's own source. I am typing from the computer right now as it is hooked up to another screen.
I think its the inverter as there is nothing on the screen but pitch black even with a flashlight. Does anyone know how much voltage is suppose to come out so I can test it with a voltmeter?
I am sure there is something I did to screw it up, but I was delicate and don't understand how the inverter could have died just like that if it was working just fine.
My neighbor asked me to take a look at his zd7000. When we power it on, the screen turns on, but it stays black and displays nothing. If the laptop is hooked up to an external monitor it shows the graphics no problem on the external screen and still nothing on the LCD.
I took the the LCD apart and checked the ribbon cable to make sure it had a secure connection. That did not solve the issue.
My other idea is that the inverter is gone bad.
Do you guys think it is the inverter? Has anyone else had a similar issue?
I have a HP DV2000 and recently it would not boot up. It gets to the windows screen and then rebots itself. Upon trying to reinstall the windows OS I got into the bios to see that the hard drive can't be detected.
problem can be my hard drive or my motherboard. The computer is out of warranty and my question is how can I be able to diagnose the what the exact problem is? Should I just buy a new hard drive and try that or is there anything I can do in the bios to further diagnose the problem??
Error message 1720-S.M.A.R.T Hard drive detects imminent failure Please backip the contents of the hard drive and run HDD self test in f10
I am having a problem with wireless network, the signal is very weak even the laptop is next to wireless router.
If I move my laptop 5 meter away from wireless router then my laptop could not detect any wireless network. I have updated wireless driver and update the bios.. no luck!
My Wireless card is: 414376-002 (Broadcom 802.11b/g Mini-PCI Express Card)
There is only one thin cable connected to wireless Mini-PCI Express Card.. is that normal?
Last week out of nowhere i noticed some banding on my display. It would be really bad all of a sudden for a few seconds and then disappear for a few mins. It had not been dropped or mishandled at all. 2 days later the display completely went black (but the backlight was still on). I have been doing research about what the problem is and have read alot about how HP had a bunch of notebooks with bad motherboards and GPU's that had to be replaced. My computer still works fine - just with no display. When hooked up to an external display it work no problem. And the original display will flash on occasionally as well.
My question is: Do I have the same problem as mentioned above with the bad motherboard?
Or is it just a display problem (that can hopefully be fixed with a quick display replacement?
When I click on left button (touch pad) on the laptop, it is not responding but I have to press it quite hard then it will response. it is really annoying..
I have an HP-dv2000 laptop hard-drive that's completely crashed now.
I have a Dell XPS laptop 320gig Sata Hard drive that I am trying to replace it with, however when I plug the hard drive in and try to turn on the power. All that happens is all the lights on the laptop just blink really fast, along with the multimedia quick buttons, continuously.
If I remove the hard-drive and it will actually go away and start, it will start up the HP screen thats it.
I recently changed my os to win7, but now some devices are not working(finger print scanner, webcam). i searched a lot for their drivers, but i'm tired.... i want quickplay driver also(hp pavillion dv2000)
i have a hp dv2000 series laptop a friend wanted me to look @ to see if I can fix it. He's willing to selling it to me real cheap ($50). The problem is as soon as you plug it in the laptop turns on. You see lights come on but monitor does not come on and you can see the fan turn on for a second then stops. This happens every time it turns on. He says it everything was turning on yesterday.
I've had my HP DV2000 for about a year. Recently I started having this problem. I would boot it up and the screen would be distorted like the image below. Sometimes it freezes and other times it just stays like that. I've ran MemTest to test the memory and that came out fine. I've also formatted it and started from scratch and it remains the same.
I have been given a laptop to fix.hp pavilion dv2000 when i turn it on the power comes on. But the screen remains black. I have no idea what the problem is as of yet.. Don't know if its screen issues or hardware issues i dont get any beeps or anything. I took out the ram used one stick no luck. So i open it up a bit the power strip bar with the LED the wire was cut. So that was getting no power. All wires for the screen/mirco webcam were plugged in. Not sure what the problem is I pluged in VGA monitor it doesnt turn on ? Any idea why i hit fn f4 nothing is happening? How do i get alt monitor show whats going on screen?...
Went to turn on the laptop and walked away. A minute or two later come back and laptop is not past the BIOS, and a screen talking about a laptop being ran until the battery drained last time it was on. I didn't get a chance to finish reading the screen because the laptop restarted. Nothing shows up on the screen after the restart. I was running off the AC adapter when this happened.
Situation now is pressing the power button causes the power button, media quick play bar. Power notification light , light above mouse pad and the wireless slider to light up. If the AC adapter is plugged in the charge light will light as well. I also hear a fan and i think the HDD. The HDD light doesn't light though. Nothing will show on the screen. stays black. I have tried powering it with AC adapter only, charged battery only, and with a charged battery and AC adapter.
i dissasembled my presario cq60 and when i put it together the monitor won't activate.
i tried using an external monitor and the monitor refused to turn on from standby, a safety feature of the monitor. the small card in the underneath with 2 wires leading 2 the monitor, (i assume that is the laptop version of a graphics card) is fine, inserted properly, and i had a slight issue with the plugs fitting, but that was soon resolved.
I have an HP DV 6000T. I just bought a HP Elite M9510f Desktop from HP.com, and I don't have a monitor yet, so I am trying to connect my Desktop VGA to my Laptop VGA in and use my DV6000T as a monitor.
I also have a Sharp TV which I tried using as a monitor but the thing keeps flashing the Power and OPC lights and won't let me see anything.
Anyway I can make my Laptop monitor work with my desktop for the time being?
The LCD on my DV2000 broke last month and since I dont have the money to replaced right away I decided to use it with my 17" lcd monitor for the mean time. After a few days of using it with the external monitor one day I turn it on and got nothing on my external monitor. Since then I having trying to figure out why I am not getting video signal through my VGA or s video.
Now I am afraid there is something worst than just the broken lcd so I am trying to see if there any way I can test it or find out if it still works before I get the replacement LCD. I at least know the there is signal going to the broken lcd since when it turns on the screens light up and turns white.
Is it possible to use a different size lcd from another hp? I have 15.4 lcd from my sister's old compaq will the dv2000 mother board run a bigger screen or will it kill the motherboard?
Like many others who use this series, I was faced with a dead HP laptop 3 weeks ago, giving nothing but a blank screen and 3 beeps (1 long, 2 short).
It turned out that almost all models under this series had this same problem due to the NVidia graphic card that overheated the mainboard So I sent mine in for repair at the HP service center and just got it back a few days ago.
I was just wondering if there is any way at all that I can prevent the new mainboard from overheating like this again? I would like to my notebook to live as long as possible from now on.
I checked the temperature just now and it was at 75C. It said the threshold was at 105C...
