I need to transfer things from my laptop (not working) hard drive onto my PC.
I've taken out the HDD, and it says Hitachi SATA I found out it's 2.5" so ordered an external case.
However the pins (I think they are called) don't fit into the case.

I'm thinking of jumping on my purchase with the $450 off coupon floating around. The thing is to get the $1399 minimum, I would probably need to include the External Tray Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer with my purchase. My question is - if I don't really need this, how easy is it to sell this? Is there a demand for the HP Blu-Ray ROM?

View 10 Replies View Relatedif the microphone jack takes stereo input? The integrated microphone is stereo, so I'm guessing the sound card will take stereo input, but I don't have a stereo mic to test.
If the mic jack is stereo, does anyone know where I can get a converter that would basically mix two mono mics into stereo? To be more clear, I have two singstar microphones and it came with a usb converter that would place each mic on separate channels. However, the input isn't as good as if I directly plug the microphone into the mic jack. Thus, I need something that is like that usb converter, but instead plugs into the microphone jack instead of the USB port. I hope that was clear enough. I don't need the computer to recognize two microphones.
I bought HP 6930p with ATI graphic card, WIN 7, and connected to the external display 24" (1920x1080) trough VGA port. There is a very noticable blurry and annoying image on external display. I tried different settings, but nothing did not help. Is there any solution to this problem? could be my graphic card or vga output damaged? Since with my 4 years old toshiba notebook, image was clear.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a HP HDX18t w/ Windows 7 Home Premium and the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M video card. I'm trying to hook up a Dell 30" LCD monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1600 via the HDMI output using a HDMI to DVI cable. Doing so, the system will only allow the external Dell a max resolution of 1280x800 while the HDX screen stays at 1920x1080. The 1280x800 look really bad. I want to use its native resolution of 2560x1600 or atleast the 1920x1080. When I use VGA output, nothing shows up on 30" (blank black screen).
Using my 24" Dell, I can get 1920x1080 either via the VGA or HDMI (to DVI) fine. Based on my research it seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M because it just doesn't allow that high a resolution (i.e. no dual-link DVI capabilitiy). Is this true? Or am doing something wrong?
Is there any solution in using a 30" monitor with the HP HDX18t? Will one of those Matrox DualHead2Go devices work to run the 30" and 24 inch monitor simultaneous at 1920x1200. I'll be fine with that. My wife is firm in using the 30" monitor we have. Is this a loss cause and I have to get another laptop that will support a 30" external monitor? If so, any advice on which one.
how to get an external monitor working with a HP DV9700 laptop? The screen is cracked and it's totally white, so I'm unable to do anything through the BIOS, desktop, etc.
I've tried Fn-f4 and every other f button combination.
The laptop is plugged into the mains, so there should be sufficient power for an external monitor.
I've also re-booted the laptop with the monitor connected and switched on.
There is no option to switch on the laptop with the lid closed, due to the position of the on-off switch.
The laptop is not networked, so I can't access the hard drive any other way.
I try it without the battery (not sure why?), but that didn't work either.
I have a DV7T on order. How large of a monitor can it push without slowing down?
I'd like to use a 22-24" if possible.
ordered another LCD and tried to replace it, to no avail. I opened it up and everything was hooked up right. Then I tried the other LCD, he gave me with it. Same thing. When I hit the fn f4 in vista, it appears to try to switch but the LCD never comes up. Also, when switching display modes, the LCD will flicker breifly (VERY BREIF). This does not smell like a video adapter or motherboard problem. I am still working on it and researching but figured I would see what all of you thought.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi have an HDX16t w/ bluray drive and i would usually watch blurays thru it. i would connect the laptop to my 42" 1080p LCD and watch. the first few times i did this, everything was fine. the sound and picture were going thru w/ no problems. i also just use the HP Media Center player when i watch so i can use the remote (which actually doesnt work great...not all the buttons work...but that's another story...)
now the other night, i went to put in another bluray and watch it using the HP Media Center but as it loaded the disc, i get a message saying that i "cannot play the movie in the current resolution". i was thinking this might be an HDCP issue but how can that be if it worked before? so i put in a bluray i had previously watched w/ this method and the same message popped up. i tried rebooting the laptop and also unplugging the TV to maybe "reset" the HDMI port. still got the same message when trying to play.
my dv2000t that I use for school and docked at home now has a blue tint on external monitor.
HP wants to repair, so i have a few options:
1. Pay and repair
2. Get a mini-desktop and use the home monitor with mac mini, no external monitor for laptop(Looking at the Mac Mini)
3. Get a USB-to-VGA or similar (laggy though)
4. New laptop.
I have connected my monitor to an external monitor. It works fine. Only problem I have ( and a little irritating one) is that the external monitor picks up display only after Windows is loaded. Pre-OS screens like BIOS settings, GRUB loader (I have Installed Linux ) doesn't show up)
Is this an issue with BIOS? Because, when I connect HP dv6000 to my monitor, I can see the BIOS screen as well. I am sure the problem is not with the monitor.
The BIOS is responsible for detecting displays before the OS is loaded right? I checked BIOS settings and there is nothing to indicate the display ports/devices (however, this page on HP website shows a BIOS screen "Advanced" which apparently has those settings)
I have an hp compaq nx6330 (ex856av) using windows xp. last may, the screen turned black (i was told i need to replace the lcd), so i decided to use a generic external monitor. a couple of months ago, i had to have it repaired and the repair guy said he'll upgrade the OS to windows 7. things were working fine for about a month then the screen (external monitor, since the laptop screen is dead) starting having vertical gey lines (the entire screen). i played with the resolution and i was able to get rid ofthe lines a couple of times. are the lines due to using windows7? can this particular model handle any OS besides the one (windows xp) it came with?Â

i tried using an external monitor and the monitor refused to turn on from standby, a safety feature of the monitor. the small card in the underneath with 2 wires leading 2 the monitor, (i assume that is the laptop version of a graphics card) is fine, inserted properly, and i had a slight issue with the plugs fitting, but that was soon resolved.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ210CE. My issue is that when I use my external hard drive, it works when I first start it up but then after a lil while (tonight it went around 10 minutes), it suddenly says it isn't recognizes & then goes on to install the driver & then it will work again. It's annoying, especially if I happen to be in the middle of something. The first few times I used it, it didn't do this, but it has now for quite a while.
There have been no issues with the hard drive when it's been connected to my desktop (which is slowly dying of old age). There aren't issues with my wireless mouse, flash drives, printer, or scanner. I have tried using different ports, they all do this with this device.
I tried uninstalling the usb drives through the device manager which instantly reinstalled & I even restarted the computer anyway. I had emailed Sony about the issue once & was told to uninstall the drives but lost the email somehow so I don't know if I did it the way they suggested.
To me asthetics are important for the setup of my machine. Call me vain but the whole point of buying apple is the looks and i've been trying to find a external HDD that matches the setup that i have with no avail. I looked at the G-Tech External HDD but they were too expensive. I managed to find somthing by a company called Lindy that makes a HDD enclosure that resembles a Mac Mini Lindy Mini HDD

I have 2 external HDDs.
My 2TB drive is formatted in NTFS, and is used by anyone in the house for backups etc.
Hence I would prefer to keep it as NTFS.
I understand Macs can access NTFS drive data, but cannot write to them. Will I be able to write to the drive through a Windows Boot Camp installation as normal?
My second external HDD is a portable My Passport 500GB, which would be used by the Mac only - so Im assuming HFS+ would be the best format for it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Aspire 9113 which I use as a desktop replacement with a 22" Samsung LCD and Logitech S510 wireless keyboard/mouse combo.
My problem is that every time I reboot the output displays on the laptop lcd and I have to switch manually to the external with the fn key-f5. This doesn't happen if I use the d-sub connector but obviously I want to connect using the DVI. In the bios there is a setting for either auto or both for boot up display but it only seems to apply to the d-sub connector.
I want to create a full back up image on my external hdd preferably with Acers thingy (sorry I can think of its proper name lol) as I feel comfortable with it, but it won't let me do it! And I'm wondering if I need to install the program on my external hdd first?

Does anyone have any experience with this? The only reason I'm looking at the 2048x1152 is because I want to have the same clarity and sharpness on the monitor as I do on the laptop screen.
I want to back up files from both my Mac and PC, aswell as transfer all my itunes to my Mac, which are currently on PC. I am just about to buy a harddrive to do so, but I don't know how to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I use my 24" LCD external with my mbp lid closed but there seems to be a problem.
After I'm done using the computer, how do I put it to sleep? Normally I would just shut the lid, but the lid is already closed.
So what I did was I just put it sleep manually through the taskbar at the top. But when I woke up this morning my laptop had its fan blowing and the laptop was pretty warm. Almost as if the laptop was still on all night.
Anyone else experience this? If so how do you put it to sleep?
I have a macbook pro (older model) and I recently got a second external hard drive to back up my other external disk. Last year i lost all my music because of a drive failure and dont want it to happen again. anyway my question is, is there a way (a program or something?) that I can use to back up files from one disk to another. its kind of a pain to update the 2nd drive by copying the entire disk over again and was wondering if there's a way a program or something can recognize the missing files and just add what isn't already there, rather than copying the entire 300 GB over again.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just got my MBP and when I plug in my external HD I've been using with my windows pc, it will say that it's removed after a minute or so (even though I haven't done anything to it). I managed to copy a couple files onto my mac before the HD disappears. however, when I unplug it and plug it in again, I can't get my MBP to see the HD. Normally it only sees it for about a minute or so when I boot up my computer... is this normal? I'd like to be able to use the HD as most of my files from work are on it...
