HP/Compaq :: HDMI Not Working On Dv6700 (dv6780se)
Apr 29, 2009
I've been sitting here for hours trying to figure out how to get my tv to work with my hdmi port on my dv6700. No matter what I do the computer doesn't detect the tv, so I can't set it as a second monitor.
I've updated the nvidia drivers to no avail, I can't think of what else to try.
Last week my computer just stopped working. Just wouldn't boot up all the way, not sure if it got a virus or what...but it sucked.
When it first happened I tried to run the system restore from the restore partition, it got to 87% and failed, on 4 tries. After that I decided to make a set of restore disks from my wifes computer to try that (same exact computer). After 4 tries with that, 3 times error after disk 5, 1 error after last disk...I ordered the official restore disks from HP.
I did the above process on the original hard drive, and then went out and bought a new one...same results with the home made disks on that.
Now, with the restore disks on my new hard drive, it gets through both disk, finishes the restore and then start installing all the damn bloatware that comes with HP...sometime during this process after one of the restarts the computer loads a black screen that says Operating System not found...
any ideas what could be wrong? I did a disk diagnostic from BIOS and it all checks out. But since my warranty is passed HP won't help with troubleshooting so I'm not sure where to go from here.
I'd love to take it to geeksquad at the moment, but sadly buying that new hard drive was all the spare money I can muster up at the moment.
I can't seem to get the ethernet port working on a dv6700 I'm refurbishing. I've installed the drivers from the HP support website, as well as installing the chipset drivers. The device status gives me an error code 39 and says that the driver is either missing or corrupted. The thing is, I can't uninstall the driver or even disable it. I haven't tried booting into linux to see if it works in there though...
The port worked when i got the computer, its been two weeks now and when i plug in the hdmi cable into the port nothing happens. It doesnt show up on the tv and now im stumped,
I used mujjuman's stickied guide to installing windows xp on a HP dv6700 and everything went perfectly except I can't connect to any wireless connections. The driver I'm sure is the right one and I can see available networks to connect to but it never can connect.
There is always an error saying something along the lines of "The wireless connection is out of range or too low a signal" but this is when I have the computer right next to the router and the windows wireless manager shows it as having full signal.
I have been having persistent issues with sound on my laptop.
The issues are:
If the laptop has not been restarted for more than a few hours, the sound begins to distort. This gets progressively worse as the laptop is left on, to the point that it severely distorts, and even movies, etc. (from my hard drive, not the internet) start to visually skip, in sync with the sound. Restarting the computer by any means, i.e. hard restart, soft restart, etc, fixes the issue temporarily, but as mentioned previously, the sound starts to distort again. At times, online videos skip ever so slightly, though this is not nearly as severe as the sound distortion. (This may not be related, as I have a lousy internet connection, but the sound distorts nonetheless). Additionally, this happens not only through the speakers, but through the headphone jacks as well.
I have googled around, and while I have found that there are known sound issues with the DV6700, none of them seem to match this exactly. However, I have heard that the media chip (I don't know the technical name) is known to cause issues, so I suspect this may be the problem. That wouldn't explain the temporary fix from restarting though...
I have installed/updated the drivers for my speakers, among other things. I also checked my system idle process, because I thought it may be a simple case of stressing the CPU. The system idle process is at 85, however, so I doubt this is the problem. I also e-mailed tech support, but naturally this was no help.
I keep getting this error whenever i play Team Fortress 2 or WoW, in WoW my screen flashes black for about 2 seconds then comes back on, it really doesn't effect my game play but it's different for tf2. I play in windowed mode and when i get the message 'display driver stopped working' the game flashes black for about 10 or more seconds. I'm not sure what to do, here are my computer specs
HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook intel core 2 duo cpu 1.83 ghz 3 gb ram
I've had this Lap top sitting around for a year or so. The hard drive went out some time back and I don't know where the original went. what replacement I need? I can't figure out what these connections are.
where could i find the software download for the entire restore of my laptop? i've googled it, and searched stores only to find the disc costs $25 or more, but have been reading about downloads available for free. my hard drive recently crapped out on my laptop, so i bought a brand new hard drive and it says " operating system not found ", so i asked the store where i bought it from what the deal was , the guy said i have to reinstall any programs and drivers onto the new hard drive via a cd. i've tried many times to restore it using F11 on the reboot screen, with no luck.
I've read the stickies and used the search option BUT i'm still going to ask the question - can i upgrade the 'graphics card' on a dv6700 with the 8400M GS chipset currently installed? i've read that HP's aren't upgrade friendly but thought i'd check anyway.......
I am going to install MSDN version Win 7 on my dv6700. Is there any issues, esp. drivers issues so far with this setup? Do current vista drivers work well with Windows 7? I am not concerned about big things like display drivers. I am just crossing fingers for drivers like authentec, wifi and bluetooth?
After upgrade to 8.1 HDMI port didn't work. Followed instructions to correct BIOS and graphice driver; HDMI works - however Silverlight no longer working with DMS.
Get error 6036 in Silverlight which is Graphics device's driver certificate is invalid
Have checked graphics driver and is all up to date
Machine is HP Pavilion 11 x2 Graphics driver version 10.18.10.3366
G60 laptop is working fine with all the latest driver updates...all windows updates... running windows 7, except that when i plug in the hdmi ..... to my toshiba tv... or any other tv for that matter.... the image of the desktop will not display on the tv.... yes its all hooked up right..... but what does happen is that the display adapter recognizes the tv... it will show it { TOSHIBA TV } on the drop down menu...
When the cable is connected... you hear the default windows " yes im connected" sound & when removing the cable... the default "disconnect" sound is heard....
So the pc is recognizing it....but still no image at all on the tv .... cant identify... I've tried 2 different cables & 3 different tv's.... all the same results.....
Everything was fine till I formatted my HDD and installed Windows 7 (wanted to try it).
I have a HDMI cable from my laptop Aspire 5738ZG to my PHILIPS HD Ready TV. Now the picture shows just fine but I've got no sound at all on my TV.
I have tried reinstalling a lot of drivers without success . If anyone knows what's causing this problem please tell me, as I really want sound on my TV while watching movies etc.
brand new hp pavilion 17e135nr window 8.1 tv is brand new 50inch visio.i know the cable is good (new) because my ps 3 works just fine so i unplugged the ps3 and hooked to the laptop to play a movie i down loaded and i selected HDMI 2 where the cable is hooked to on my tv, i get no input on the tv. so i win p and selected duplicate screen and i get nothing, no error messages , the movie starts and plays just fine on the laptop but tv says no input.. i didn't try to select second screen only it should play on both screens, I dont think the HDMI port is working at all.
i have HP 2000 notebook and all of a sudden HDMI port stopped working. Factory restore and a chipset driver worked and it started working. my bad, i installed a graphics driver, that took me back to sqaure one. HDMI port on the laptop is not working. HDMI cable and TV HDMI port is all working.i ran HP support assistant and it shows all required updates are in place. though it worked in between, it should be an issue with the chipset driver.
I have a xps15z and the hdmi connection suddenly stopped working about a week ago. I have tried everything I can think of to get it working again, reinstalled drivers, tried different leads, different monitors but no success yet.
The weird thing is when you plug in the hdmi lead the external monitor is detected on the nvidia control panel and the windows display settings. Also I can scroll across to where the extended screen is and drag windows over there but nothing shows up on the monitor. The monitor says there is no connection.
Relevant system specs: windows 7, nvidia Geoforce GT 525m graphics card (runs the external display), Intel(R) HD Graphics family (runs main laptop display).
My HDMI port does not work. I have a N7010, 17R. I tried downloading other drivers but nothing seems to work. Is there a way to tell is it's a mother board issue or driver issue?
She has been using the HDMI port to connect an external monitor at home, but now it's not working anymore.
I tried to use different cable on different monitor, and they seem to have the same problem, it' displayed " no signal" and the laptop can't detect the display also.
I buy this wonderful notebook with win 8.1 , all works fine, but... the hdmi port seems is not working... nothing appens when i plug the hdmi cable... the tv doesn't recognize the pc... i don't think is a broken port, i think some driver or bios misconfiguration... My video card is the intel 400, i have latest updated driver..

Really cannot i use hdmi ouput because bios doesn't support it?? in 2014?? i can't believe it..
I just recently purchased an HDMI compatible television, for the purpose of extending the screen on my Acer Aspire E1-510P-4402.
At first, I thought it might have been either a faulty HDMI cable, or television. This is not the case, however. The television works perfectly fine on another computer, using the same HDMI cable.
Since I isolated the problem to the laptop not recognizing it, I tried to reboot my laptop, yielding no result on the second screen.
I also downloaded the latest version of the VGA Driver (Intel HD Graphics) from the Acer driver support site, then uninstalling the driver in Device Manager (and removing the driver files) -> rebooting -> reinstalling the driver (to be 100% certain of the latest version) -> then rebooting again. This also did not work:
I also did the same thing with the Intel Chipset driver, seeing as it may have been a conflict between them. This resulted in no effect.
As a final measure, I also downloaded the Intel driver updater and installed it. The updater told me that a generic version of the driver may not work, and to contact the manufacturer for support with it.
I am using an Envy TouchSmart 15 and I have just run an update of Windows 8.1 based on the system auto update (it ran 5 updates).
Prior to the update, I used a 27" monitor as the main screen and this was connected via the HDMI port. Right after the update, the system doesn't seem to recognise the HDMI port anymore and it goes back to using the Envy laptop screen as the main screen. I changed the HDMI cable but it made no difference. I subsequently connected another laptop to the 27" monitor via HDMI and it worked fine. So it appears both the monitor and the HDMI cable are fine.
I bought my lenovo G460 with nvidia M310 (with hdmi) this year and have not been able to get the hdmi port to work.
I have two lcd displays one in our lab and another one at home (LG 2361V-PF) which have hdmi connections in the back.
In the beginning I was able to get my notebook to work on the display in our office. However, now both displays (work+home) are not working.
I have tried to reinstall latest nvidia drivers as of 2010-11-02 (ver. 8.16.11.8990) from lenovo, completely restore Operating system and tried different hdmi cables.
I have even tried to use original drivers and also downgrade that to a lower version all with no luck.
I have even taken my LG LCD display to the LG After Service Warranty office and have found no issues wrong with the Monitor itself.
I am sure I have taken all the trouble-shooting methods into consideration so a simple question is... Is the hdmi port defective?
I just got this U530 and wanted to use a dual monitor setup with a monitor that only supports DVI inputs (Samsung SyncMaster BX2335). I bought a cable for the purpose: an HDMI to DVI-D cable. I cannot seem to get the laptop to recognize that there is a monitor attached, however.
Am I going to have to use a port replicator instead or use some sort of USB 3 to DVI setup? I have no other video output options built into this computer.
I have an Acer Aspire V3-572g. My laptop came with windows 8.1 installed already. Currently, my pc is being reset to factory settings because I can not figure out how to keep the hdmi from going out after windows updates. The only way I can keep get the hdmi port to work is the factory reset it. The only way from keeping the hdmi working is by turning off windows updater. However, I'd like to figure out how to keep the hdmi working without doing so. My graphics card is Nvidia 840 M. Here are a list of things I've done after my laptop stops recognizing the hdmi.
Uninstall and reinstall the display drivers, both from intel and Nvidia Update the drivers to be up to date Downloaded intel's utility manager to keep driver update to date Downloaded factory installed drivers from Acer's website Contacting microsoft and have them remotely connect to my laptop Restored back my laptop to previous working conditions (although the hdmi never worked by going to a restore point) Swapped hdmi cords and displays
After several hours of researching and trying different things I'm stumped. I bought this computer with the sole purpose of connecting it to a TV. I've also had this issue with another laptop which I returned. This problem isn't a hardware problem as I'm connected to the same monitor with an old desktop using the same cords. I'm guessing there is a compatability issue with windows and the display drivers when there is an update.
BTW I downloaded the bios of dv6880ev. Why the heck is the laptop model dv6700 and service tag is dv6880ev?!!?!
I start the laptop up and it freezes at the HP logo screen. Only the ESC key works (Press <ESC> to enable startup message) if i press it fast enough and if i push the F10(BIOS SETUP) key it just hangs at "Please Wait"

How it started: I updated the bios of my Laptop from Version F.57 to F.58(Latest). After the laptop shutdown, I immediatly turned it back on. Maybe its because i didn't give it a few seconds to power on by itself?
What I already tried:
-Removing CMOS, ram, HDD wait half an hour and power on again. -This guide which does not work because HDD is formatted: Recovering the notebook BIOS using a key press combination -The Phoenix tool procedure found here
How to use the HP BIOS update (uefi) utility
What I want to try but don't know how!
-Creating a new partition on the hard disk(HP_TOOLS) to trick the system that I have the old BIOS and maybe recover using the WIN+B combination?
