Games I would hope to play on it would be like Modern Warfare 2.
Is the system itself a good buy with what it offers and what is the average shelf life this type of laptop can give me before I would have to look at replacing?

The USB3 were working, but I had to do a WIN7 restore (full format of the HD).  The USB3 ports are not working now, they will light up a external HD, but the HD never shows up on My Computer.  I've downloaded and installed "Fresco Logic USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver (SP55093)", but Device Manager still says there is no driver loaded. I've run Windows Update--everything is up-to-date. I've run HP Support Assistand updater--no updates available.  I've uninstalled the Fresno Logic USB Root Hub, re-installed the Intel Chipset Driver, rebooted the machine and watched it search for a driver. No driver found to install. So, I run the installation program for the Fresco Logic USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver (SP55093) and reboot. Device Manager still says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)  There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."  Fresco Logic USB 3.0 Host Controller is listed under "Other Devices", not "Universal Serial Bus Controllers."
I have been having a problem with my laptop, I think it may be a virus but it is not being caught by the McAfee virus scan. So there are two issues: The first is whenever I try to download and install a program or update it tells me a part was not downloaded, forcing me to stop the installing process. The other problem is when I open my "Downloads" folder is message appears "COM Surrogate has stopped working" and when I close it it pops up again and does that about 6 times.
HP just updated several notebook models with some new features and options on their US website. I've posted a brief summary of the changes below, with those in bold as considered major. Feel free to leave comments about these new changes or let me know if I forgot something in the list below.

I've this laptop and my hard disk is brokenn with bad accident, for now i couldn't open my pc because i've no operating system on it, so i couldn't run any test program on my laptop. Â Now, i decided to buy Solid State Disk besides my HDD but i want to know about if it is compatible with SATA III or not. I searched on google but there is not enough information about mine, but for the others it fits. Â my motherboard can support SATA III or not ?
My WiFi Network adapter is an "Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN". Occasionally I lose my  internet connection for approx 30 - 60 seconds and then it comes back. The modem appears to be OK as the problem does not affect other computers on the same home network. When I try to update the driver from the device manager, it says the current driver is up to date. Is there another driver I should try?
Alright Well I bought a new inverter plugged it in and it still is doing the same thing. Only when i jiggle the wires the light goes on and i see the screen but not for long. I check for loose conncections but can't find any. The external display is fine. I'm wondering if it could be the actual bulb.
I have a HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00. I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate before which I had windows 7 home premium on which I could use the webcam but now it shows an error when I open cyberlink youcam "Warning, No webcam detected. Try plugging in a webcam into your computer now. If you are using an integrated camera, make sure that it is turned on". I've watched and tried all the steps except for the last step as the cyberlink youcam software doesn't allow me to click the configure settings. What should I do to turn on my webcam?
Have a HP Laptop with windows 7 and I cannot logon. When I try to logon using my password, I continuously get message, "The user profile service failed the logon. The user cannot be loaded."Â
I just received a dual band Time Warner Cable router that I want to wirelessly connect with my HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC that I had for 2 and a half years now. The laptop has no trouble seeing and connecting to the 2.4 Ghz band, but does not even see 5Ghz. I tried playing around with the router settings, but had no luck this far. I believe that it should be able to see it, but I'm not 100% sure. Whether I need to update my drivers or anything for it to be able to connect to 5G? Or perhaps purchase a new network card or adapter? Or am I out of luck connecting it to 5G?
I'm having a really hard time finding the latest Bluetooth driver for my laptop on the HP website. My laptop pavilion dv6t 6b00 quad edition entertainment notebook pc. tripple booted with windows 8, 7 and ubuntu. was working nicely for a year and 35 days. today when I tried to start it, a blank white screen appears. no movement. does not work even with external monitor. even the start up hp logo does not come up to take me to bios. no movement. even lights don't change when I push the wifi or sound button on the keyboard. no external media. has super important data and loss can cause big problems.
We have two HP Pavilion dv6t-3100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment notebooks purchased at the same time. The screen on one of them has been flickering, has had to do a few recoveries, and has generated at least one BSOD. Â Oddly, the problem child's Intel driver is 8.17.0010.0029, and the AMD driver is 8.741.1.1000, dated 6/22/2010. Â But the problem-free laptop has Intel driver 8.17.0010.1043, and AMD driver 8.771.1.0, dated 9/8/2010. Â Huh? The only difference between the two is the "bad" laptop has a i7-720QM ICU whereas the "good" laptop has the slightly more powerful i7-740QM. So why the different drivers?
I can no longer use Simple Pass to log into a BOA on-line account. Â When I swipe my finger, a message indicates that simple pass is launching the address but nothing happens and the website doesn't open.Simple Pass came with my HP Pavilion DV6T-7000 CTO laptop with a 64 bit operating system. Â I currently use windows 7. Â Google Chrome is my default search engine but I also use IE on occasion. Â Previously when my Simple Pass worked, my BOA location was only opening in IE.Â
I'm torn between the G62 and the dv6t. Currently I see one main benefit to each:
G62 - Better Processor (I'd go with the i5-540) dv6t - Better Battery (I'd go with the extended 6-cell)
Other then those two differences, I'd stick with 4GB of RAM and a 512MB video card. Are there any other differences between the two? I do like the looks of the G62...does it really compare (feel wise) with the Envy? Is there any reason to splurge for the Envy? I'll be using this as my everyday home computer...surfing the web, some programming, a lot of office work, a little graphic design.
I saw the dv6t in black on HP's site and I'm seriously considering it over the HDX, but why can't I find a single picture of it in black? The only one's I've seen are silver. Is it just super new?
I have a HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 CTO Quad Edition laptop and currently the WLAN network card does not support dual band connection via WiFi. I wish to upgrade the WLAN card so that it can connect to the Dual band WiFi at my house.  Any whitelist of WLAN card that I can use to upgrade my laptop? Is there a list of supported WLAN adapters?Â
I just ordered one and it should be here soon. I'm not using this laptop as a gaming machine because I have Xbox360 already doing the job for me. With that being said, I still don't want a crappy laptop that isn't stable (As far as graphics). I'm going to be using it for basically word processing, viewing movies, music editing, light video editing, and web browsing of course. I just need to know if it's a good machine, if anyone with the laptop care to let me know their experience, that was would be dope. If it's not any good I could just send it back for an exchange or get my money back. I paid around 625.00, that was with my student discount, but it came up to 700.00 before that.
This model has customized & quick-ship option. I notice the customized version is fitted with Geforce GT 320m - For i7 processor (no other option), while the Quick-Ship model is fitted with GT230m WITH Physx.
I've heard about Physx before, and I always think it is another component bought separately (at least for PC desktop 1-2 years ago). So, is this Physx processor always present with all Geforce GT230m & 320m series, or does HP actually fit this additional processor as a bonus ?
I look on NVidia's technical specs for 320m & 230m, and Nvidia specifies that they are both Physx-ready. What does "READY" mean here ? Ready to be fitted with an optional Physx feature, or does it mean both have already integrated the Physx into 320m & 230m ? ...or do I misunderstand something ?
I got an DV6t-Quad and I did the clean installation of window 7 Ultimate. Now, When I press the Volume Down/Up the Sound Sensitive is not working and the Sound indicated Led does not work through the sound itself still effect.
Im looking at getting a new laptop soon, for moderate gaming and web design. My price range is around $1000, so I really like the dv6t and the envy14, so...
Which would you guys get if you were me?

I just recieved my dv6t today and decided for some unknown reason that I needed Vista Ultimate. Well in doing so I did not make a copy of the recovery disk.
After I installed all the drivers and applications the verisoft program doesn't have the option to register a fingerprint all it lets me do is passwords.
Does anyone know of another program that would work with the fingerprint reader I have?
Buying a new laptop soon... choices are a HDX16t (P8400 and Nvidia 9600M GT 512MB) or a DV6t (T6400 and ATi HD 4650 1GB). I'm just looking to play Everquest 2, and even though it's a 2004 release, it's pretty intensive. So I'm wondering if I should deal with the slower CPU and slightly better GPU or vice versa?
I just received my new dv6t quad edition. The computer is great except one thing that's driving me crazy is the keyboard. Since there is a numeric keypad on the right side, the keyboard and touchpad are not centered to the screen. I find this to feel very awkward.
Anyone else have this issue with the machine? I know the addition of the keypad is not new to this model.
I will be receiving a dv6t Quad edition soon. I am planning to replace the original HDD with a SSD. The original HDD will go in a external eSATA enclosure.
Questions/comments:
- Are there any step-by-step guides out there for replacing the HDD?
- I have read in forums that doing a fresh install on SSD is better than cloning your existing drive. Is that correct?
- In case of any issues with the installation on SSD, I can always put the original drive back in.
- If I dont delete the MBR on the original drive, will it create an issue in the external enclosure along with the new MBR on the SSD?
