HP/Compaq :: HP Nx7400 CPU Fan Full Throttle

Dec 16, 2009

I've been using my nx7400 for more than 3 years. I undervolted it with RM Clock and it was always running around 45-52 degrees idle and 53-59 under load. The fan only kicked in under load and over 55 degrees.

I changed the CPU fan for a new one, I changed the thermal paste for MX-3 and I regularly use compressed air to clean the heat sink.

Lately, it's running full throttle in intervals even in idle and temperatures 45-50. (5-15 seconds full throttle, 10 seconds inaudible... and so on)

I could always leave it on my nightstand 24/7 as it was inaudible.

HP/Compaq :: HP NX7400 Display

Sep 16, 2009

Today when I wanted to turn on the laptop, the screen was RED. I tried couple of times again, with connected to the power AC and without, but it starts Windows and everything is working, but my screen is still RED. I connected the laptop to an external monitor to check if the graphic card is causing the problem, but no, the picture was perfect. So I'm guessing it is something with inverters or the hole LCD. Do you have any ideas? And is is possible to buy spare parts from HP (I live in Germany)?

It is a HP NX7400 with WXGA (1280x800) Display.

HP/Compaq :: HP Nx7400 - Whenever I Plug The AC Adapter To My Laptop Whole Performance Is Very Slow

Apr 1, 2009

I have an HP Compaq nx7400. I've had it for over 3 years now. I've never changed its battery ever since I bought it.

Specs: [url]

Over the past few weeks, I've been having an unusual problem. Whenever I plug the AC adapter to my laptop, the whole laptop performance - from the second I switch it on - is very slow. The moment I pull the AC adapter from the laptop, it instantly operates at a normal and fast speed again!

I figured that it must have been a problem with the AC adapter (it's had its fair share of use - being swung around and dragged to lectures...). So I ordered another one off Ebay. Today, I got the new adapter and when I plugged it in, the laptop only went on AC power. It worked fine - fast as normal. However, it was not charging - just on AC power. I am starting to question if the adapter was really as "genuine" like it was advertised on eBay. But anyway... after about 4 hours with the new adapter on AC power, it stopped recognizing the battery altogether and alerted me with a Critical Battery sign. Of course, a few minutes later, it went dead on me - the laptop switched off. It was as if I removed the AC adapter myself, only I hadn't. Now, I am trying to plug it in again (the new one), to see if it will be able to power up again and it just won't respond at all.

On the other hand, when I put the old AC adapter, the laptop switches on but doesn't charge. Again, it is extremely slow with the adapter on, and fast when I pull the wire out. Only for a minute or so until it dies on me again...

Dell :: S-XPS 1645 AC Power Throttle Investigation

Nov 26, 2009

This thread is getting too large, and too difficult to find useful information. Thank you to everyone who has put forth efforts into the investigation. At this time I feel we can safely say that there isn't any investigating left to do, so without further ado, please direct yourselves to this great help-thread with information about what the problem is, and how you can circumvent it:

S-XPS 1645 Throttling Info. and Updates

====obsolete information====

I've removed all the old information as its mostly speculative, and replaced it with useful factual information.

The following is from a post made by our user Khaledseif on the Dell Forum. I feel this update he posted is so well-written that it deserves to be included here.

Quote:

1. The power conservative BIOS forces the system to throttle to 7x when the power consumption is around 90 watts due to one or more of the following reasons:

a. Limitation of the power supply capability

b. Limitation of the motherboard to accept more than 90 watts (This reason is from DELL, but we suspect it)

c. To increase the battery life

d. To limit heat generation

obviously DELL should be blamed for poor design if it is a, b, or d.

2. Thanks to unclewebb there is a software now to unlock the throttle, this one will almost certainly put the 90 watt charger to rest or fire.

3. Due to the power limitation, it looks like the people with the RGBLED are most affected by the problem due to the added power consumption.

4. DELL is aware of the problem, but according to them it only affects a small percentage of people that put the system on full performance.

5. DELL keeps saying that the 130 watts adapter is not the solution of the problem, which is quite true as it needs both an adapter and BIOS update.

6. After a long wait, DELL acknowledged that there is a problem and that they will address it soon without announcing a time frame.

7. We as a group lack the trust in DELL fixing the problem to our satisfaction.

I think most of our group will agree on the above.

With all the above said, i am quite happy that mine was returned back to DELL after a frustrating experience with DELL level 1, 2, and 3 technical support. This doesn't represent the other members as most of them are happy with their notebook but expect action from DELL.

Acer :: Volume Throttle Doesn't Work After A W7 X64 Clean Install

Nov 9, 2009

I have sent an e-mail to Acer but, as I bought my laptop in Dixons (UK retail shop) they told me that I need to speak to the "Tech Guys". These "tech Guys" are.... well...

THICK as S*** and don't usually give you any help whatsoever. Their advice was something like... it is not our fault, contact Microsoft as they are the one who developed W7...?

Anyway, moving forward, my problem is that, since I installed W7 x64 (clean install) the volume throttle does not work. I am unsure what the driver for this function is. I have tried re-installing the Synaptics drive, the Realteck HD drive...

HP/Compaq :: Battery Full: Charging Cut Off

My original 6-Cell battery fails to charge anymore so my laptop would not power up just on battery power.

I'd like to know more on how to take better care for my new battery, and so my question is; does HP laptop, cuts off charging when battery is already full? Because i noticed that the "charge/lightning LED" does not stay ON anymore when battery is full. Is this a correct indicator? Or should i remove my battery when running on external power?

Dell :: XPS 1330 Harddrive Nearly Full

Apr 29, 2009

This is my first post here and am new to this site.

Yesterday my XPS 1330 arrived with a 128 GB SSD. I was very impressed with startup, quietness, etc. I moved files from an external harddrive with pics and audio (totaled to 40 GB).

I then went to view the drive and saw that I had 12GB left...not even a day that I own a new laptop and my machine is nearly full. My old HP laptop still has 50GB left.

I removed the pics and that gave me 40GB left.

18.5GB is dedicated to "Dell DataSafe Local Backup..." I have no idea why this is so huge

HP OS/Software :: ProBook 650 G1 - C Disk Nearly Full

Apr 10, 2014

Bought this ProBook, with SSD, because I specifically wanted an SSD and Windows 7.I figured that 128Gb would be enough to run Windows and some of my graphic software, but when I booted up the computer I noticed that of the 128Gb just over 100Gb was filled with pre-installed software, much of it HP stuff.I only installed Adobe CS6, Lightroom 5 and some really light stuff, and I'm running everything else off external drives. But with continuous updates from Windows and HP software my C drive has filled up and I'm now looking at only 6Gb free space anymore. Which software I can safely delete and which is absolutely necessary to run the system?It's slightly misleading to buy a computer with 128Gb SSD only to find it nearly full with pre-installed software.

HP ProBook 4720s :: Fan Will Not Go To Full Speed

May 15, 2012

I have a ProBook 4720s laptop, Windows 7 64-bit

The problem is that the fan on my computer always stays at minimum speed and as the computer heats up, the fan will not speed up to its full speed. The computer gets really hot ~70°C. The problem occurred when I upgraded bios to its latest version F.20. I believe that there is a bug with this bios- that the bios will not control the fan properly. This type of notebook has a history of bios bugs: its original bios made the fan run all the time at full speed which was fixed with a bios upgrade.

This bios came with a note that I cannot downgrade to a previous version that worked well. So my question is, can I expect a bios upgrade for this computer that would fix the error.
