Feb 2, 2009I just bought a Compaq Presario CQ60-216DX laptop, which came with Vista installed and I need to downgrade to Windows XP (for work purposes). I can't seem to find a Windows XP driver for this model and am waiting to downgrade until I know if I need one / if there is one.
my questions are:

Jan 11, 2010I recently upgraded my wife's laptop from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate and almost everything works fine on it. The one sticking point through has been the battery behaving oddly in Win7. The first thing is that the battery icon has a red X on it and when you hover over it it states that I should consider replacing my battery. When the laptop runs unplugged, it literally lasts 20 minutes before it powers itself off. This is a huge difference when it would last over 2 hours in Vista just before the upgrade.
I'm wondering if there are specific drivers I should install or downgrade even though everything in Device Manager no longer has any yellow exclamation marks (I had to install some drivers after installing Win7). FYI, this laptop is about 1.5 years old.
If I can't find a solution to the low battery performance, I may have to revert her laptop back to Vista which would totally negate the reason for buying Win7 in the first place for her machine.

Aug 7, 2011I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ56-112SA Notebook which has WIndows 7 Home Edition OS. I would like very much to install Ubuntu 12.04 OS on its own partition to dual boot with Windows. However, my understanding is that the Notebook has 4 primary partitions on the HDD that are already used and therefore no more partitions can be made. I can shrink the 'C' drive partition to make space but I understand I also have to free up a whole partition. I know I can install Ubuntu 'Inside' Windows but I would rather not.

Some contributors say one can safely delete HP-Tools to provide a partition for Ubuntu but others advise not to because HP-Tools contains a BIOS recovery kit which, they say, is essential.
HP OS/Software :: Compaq Presario CQ71 - Error 1002 When Using Recovery (windows Vista)
Jul 21, 2014I've just encountered error 1002 while using recovery... Recovery successfully went through reformattng my drive but crashed before reinstaling the original content. It doesn't matter if I try recovering from hard driver nor dvd rom, it all results in error 1002. I've done some searching and it seems it's quite common error in hp products without proper solution. I feel I'm out of luck as my warranty expired years ago.. How can I resolve this issue? For me it seems that recovery content orginally placed on my hard drive (and later burned on the DVD by me) had been damaged.
- to order another recovery disks set (though I saw few opinions it didn't work)
- buy new "Windows" and install a new fresh installation (will I be able to perform new installation at all?)

Jan 31, 2010I have a dv9820us laptop, it came with Windows Home Vista Premium 64. I trashed vista fiasco, and installed Win7 64. I cannot believe HP don;t support Windows 7 for this laptop.
Almost everything works fine with Win7, but not the audio, mic, etc. The conexant audio driver has problems and is not compatible with Windows 7. Does anyone know how to fix this? maybe a official driver is available?
I tried a modified version of the driver from here, but it still doesn't work, sometimes the audio work, sometime don't.
I hate bloatware vista, and I don't want to pay for the recovery cds from HP. (i don't have the recovery partition and the recovery cd that i made, brings an error)

This is what I have, and I imagine HP probably use the same drivers for most of its late model laptops on windows 7 for the touch activated media button i.e. the back lit strip above the keyboard just below the LED screen that let you activate WIFI, sound. playback..etc..
I have read from several posts that windows 7 install fine on HP laptop just that the touch strip driver does not work with the factory drivers.

Apr 18, 2010i have a compaq presario 1500 with a pentium 4 running XP SP3 on it. I am having trouble with keeping it under a good heat, the fan is constantly running high! i know this needs a good clean but the screws to remove the back casing are so small for me to do this! any suggestions of how i can clean inside? or get to th fan through the top by the keyboard?
secondly it tends to crash every now and then, maybe when it overclocks on the cpu?? i am recently trying out a program called speedswitchXP which seems to be slowing it down to an extent! but not solving the issue.
thirdly and finally, my battery only holds charge for around 10 minutes before needing constant wall plugin! i constantly have it plugged into the wall, could this be a result to any of my problems?
HP/Compaq :: Presario Won't Boot
Dec 3, 2009got a Presario V2000 that will not boot whatsoever.
Upon pressing the power button, the machine starts up and displays the standard "Windows could not start properly" screen. Every option I choose, from the three Safe mode options, to the Last Known Good Config, to Start Windows Normally will not work.
I choose an option and everything goes smoothly, the Windows XP splash screen pops up & stays there for a few seconds, then goes blanks for a slightly longer length of time before a blue screen pops up. I can't remember the first few numbers, but the rest I'm pretty sure is accurate:
(a series of letters/numbers is here) (Registry File Failure)
The registry cannot load the file
SysCommandSysCom32ConfigSOFTware
or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, (something I cant remember), or not writable
Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete
Contact your system administrator or technical assistance.
.....and it pretty much repeats over and over in a continuous cycle like this until I power it off.
What I'm wondering is where exactly the problem lies? On the Hard Drive--where the drive itself needs to be replaced or the OS just wiped and reinstalled fresh.......or is this indicative of a hardware failure...which would mean this lappy is pretty much dead?

Apr 2, 2009On pressing start button, laptop starts, but blank screen comes. After every few seconds, it keeps on rebooting, but nothing happens.
I have tried pressing F10 and Esc button on startup, but nothing happens.
Moving finger over multimedia touch buttons causes them to beep.
Few times, it shows the BIOS, but does not detect the hard-drive.
Very rarely, everything works fine and OS boots and works fine (without any sign of problem).
I replaced RAMs, hard-drive and DVD Reader in other laptop and there they worked absolutely fine.
I even tried removing the battery, connecting external monitor, keyboard, but nothing worked.
BIOS version is F.3D.
When opened, CPU fan and heatsink were dustfree.

Apr 15, 2009I have a Presario V2000.
After not using for about 1 week I turned it on so I could clean it from viruses.
Got the battery alert and then it shutdown meanwhile I was pluging the cord in (Targus AC cord with
blue light).
When I connected the AC to the power (not connected yet to the laptop) it "turned on" and still today
shows a blue light. But once I plug it to the laptop the blue light disappears after 3-5 seconds!
Not at the beginning nor the end of this process the laptop will turn on if I press the power button
for 'x' seconds. If I plug the cord, the computer doesn't show any "power light" and then the blue
light from the Targus AC fades off.................
