View 5 RepliesI have a HP Pavilion dv6700t and I'm looking in the bios to set the the sata controller to legacy mode so I can secure erase my SSD. Trouble is there's nothing there to do it. Question is, does anyone know how to set the controller to legacy mode?

I would like for all the current functions to work such as the camera and video card. Would this be a big issue or should I just reload the original OS(XP).
I have a 3.5" enclosure for HDD that have an horizontal "L" e-SATA interface but i don't know what kind of e-SATA have DV7 that i ordered. Can someone tell me what kind of e-SATA cable should i buy?

View 10 Replies View Relatedif the onboard Sata/eSata controller is "port multiplier" capable? Meaning I can connect more than one drive (via a hub) to the eSata port?
I have an Expresscard eSata that can but wanted to know if the onboard port is capable of this function.
I am having problems with some Blu-Ray DVDs in my DV9774ca with a optiarc BC-5500A ATA.
When I put some Blu-Ray DVDs in the drive starts to spin and makes the normal searching noises for 30 seconds and then it stops without doing anything at all.
I decided to try download a firmware update, but the site says not to flash SATA drives with PATA firmware.
How can I find out what it is? I can only assume its SATA. The firmware I found is for PATA!
Also I assume that the firmware I already have is older than the downloadable version (not from H.P.). The downloadable version is 1.05 from November/08. I bought my laptop in Feb/08.
i have Pavilion DV5-1112ea with limited BIOS
i want to change my IDE SATA TO AHCI...
how i can do this ?
I have an HP dv9000 laptop.
It came with Windows Vista, at one point I was dual-booting Vista/XP, and I am currently using Windows 7beta.
I recently went in my bios settings and tried to enable native sata support, and after that, my computer wouldn't go into Win7, until i disabled it again.
It was enabled when i first got my computer, and i had to disable it for XP compatibility. I figure, if it works with Vista, there's no reason it wouldnt work with Win7. Perhaps it's configured to run without the setting, so enabling it effs it up and confuses it. is there any way i can enable it again, preferably without having to do a full OS install?
For the dv3t or dv4t, the specs list it as SATA compatible. Does this mean I can't pop in a SATAII SSD? [url]
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a HP DV2000 (BIOs states it is a 2500) that I am trying to install XP over vista.
I have gone into the bios to disable the SATA but there is no option to do so. I do have a external floppy to use. I thought I was computer savy but am feeling kinda dumb. Should I start with a flash? What model am I actually working on, 2000 or 2500.

View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to slipstream sata drivers onto Windows XP installation disk I decided to try it out. I had two unsuccessful attempts and I'm wondering that it probably is due to me using the wrong drivers for the job.
I have a Dv5t 1135ee, can anybody please direct me to the right drivers that I need to put onto my Windows XP installtion disk to not get a BSoD.
OS is Vista x86 32-bit.
We couldn't for the life of us get the Seagate HDD recognized when plugged inside the eSATA port. Worked fine via the alternative IEEE1394 connector, though. The "super-duper" trick recommended by the manufacturer, consisting of mere rescanning drives with the HDD manager in Computer Management did not effect in anything. Nor did installation of Intel's hard drive manager (which came with a driver update under the veil)
But the dealer whom he bought the HDD from insisted that the HDD worked fine via eSATA, so it doesn't appear to be a hardware problem, nor could a defective cable be the culprit, since he used the very same.
installing Windows XP on my HP Pavillion Dv2100. Windows could load with Native Sata disabled but when I try to enable it, it gives me a BSOD during the Windows loading screen. I tried doing the steps on [url] and it still doesnt work.
I also tried reinstalling Windows with Native Sata enabled but it says Windows cannot detect a hard disk. Tried reinstalling using a Flash Drive with Windows installed using WinToFlash and it said "Ntldr is missing".
I have a HP dv1131 TX laptop.I am not able to access SATA settings in it. I tried with the BIOS....but it doesnn't seem to display any option pertaining to SATA operation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?
I connected a dvd drive to my laptop using, a sata to esata cable. my laptop has a ESATA port.
I don't know if you should post some kind of config summary (if yes let me know, I will do it promptly) basically I have a HP DV6t quad edition with an Intel 5 serie chipset,
PM55 express chipset (dont really know if it make any sense but still, I will just say state it) so I installed Intel Matrix Storage and when I connect the drive I can see it, but windows 7 does not see it, it's like I didn't plug anything in. [url] also my bios is almost configurable, I don't know why I can change the time, the date, the admin password, the boot order, virtualization, fan on/off that's pretty much it. so what options do I have if I want to make this dvd drive work?
i use HP Pavilion Entertainment laptop.... while working it goes on sleep mode automatically... i hv chked d timer n other details....

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a HP DV9500 laptop with Vista. For the last 2 days I am encountering an issue where the Laptop would freeze 5 minutes after logging in. Then there is no HDD activity and the computer can only be shutdown by holding down the power button. I tried working with the "Safe Mode with Networking" option and this issues never comes up. I kept the system running for almost 5 hours in Safe mode still there was never an issue.
The Freezing only happens in the normal mode. If this was an Overheating/Hardware isssue then irrespective of the Mode the error should have occured is my thought. Overall the system was very fast even in the normal mode before this issue occured. I am also running coretemp software and the temperature is always around 35 Centigrade. Some times it goes up to 45s. But overall it never crossed 50. So i am not fully convinced it it is overheating issue.
The latptop is around 2 years old. Last year during the warranty period there was an motherboard issue and HP replaced my motherboard for free.
Would a system restore do any good if this is typically a hardware issue. I am unable to decide weather it is an hardware issue or a software issue.
i just picked up the new laptop (specs below in sig) and have noticed a few hiccups.
I just got it yesterday, and when initially setting it up, that silly "HP start up" software seemed to lock up more then once (with the silly hands moving around n blah blah blah.) Well eventually had to restart and with that crap out of the way, set things up normally. Got everything updated. Wifi's working well, all windows updates out of the way, etc.
However during all this 2 times my computer randomly went into hibernate mode. It wasn't like I'd left it idle for long. I mean i may have left it go for a minute or two w/o interacting with it (while it was plugged in.) I had also altered the power settings to not go into sleep or hibernate while it was plugged in , which it was.
I could tell it hibernated by the start up screen saying "resuming windows." Well as an experiment after playing around with power settings and so forth, i left it on all nite while plugged in. In the morning today it was still on and running fine.
I own a Hp dv5t and recently the speakers on the laptop stoped working. the only way i can get sound is by plugging in headphones. It seems the computer is stuck in headphone mode. I've been searching for an answer the past few days but couldn't find a solution.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am getting a new hp laptop dv7t and in the past I have pretty much always kept my laptop in sleep mode when it was not in use. If I was going to not use it for a couple of days then I would turn it off. It is always plugged in since it is pretty much a desktop laptop.
What is the best practice for a always plugged in laptop?
My problem is that my 2530p won't come back from sleep mode; the screen stays black.
As seen in this thread, [url] this is a known problem.
It seems that switching from IDE to AHCI will do the trick, but I have no idea how to do that without causing an other problem. I use vista.
Here are my specs.
windows 7 (64bit)
intel sp9300
4 gigs of ram...
Here are my problems as most of you are already familar with....
Mouse freezes when system is woken up from sleep mode.
Speaker crackles and I am unable to update driver. Tried several times.
How do i make sure all my drivers are up to date? Do i have to check each one manually?
Here are the steps I have taken to try and fix these problems....
20 hours on the phone with hp tech support. (i speak fluent indian now)
tried to download speaker driver - unable
tried to install updated mouse driver - unable
installed updated Bios - caused the dm3 to go into blue screen 3 times
re-installed windows 7 - problems still exsist...............
I have dv5t downgraded to XP. I am trying to use the laptop as a desktop replacement. Is there a way to have the lid/cover closed but the system still up and running?

i assume i'd still be stuck with 1.5gbps throughput, but that doesn't matter, i just want a larger drive.
