I have a HP Pavilion dv6700t and I'm looking in the bios to set the the sata controller to legacy mode so I can secure erase my SSD. Trouble is there's nothing there to do it. Question is, does anyone know how to set the controller to legacy mode?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought an HP laptop for 1300 dollars a year and 3 months ago. The laptop's manufacturer warranty expired in January. So in the beginning of April my laptop died for no reason. I took it to the local Geek Squad in Jensen Beach, FL, and they reluctantly told me it was the motherboard. Now I didn't purchase the extended warranty from HP, but since the laptop is barely a year old and it just died out of nowhere, I've called HP to see if they would help me out. This is the second HP laptop which motherboard has died this year for me. My mother's laptop's motherboard died in February and they swapped hers out for free. Apparently her model qualified for a free motherboard but mine didn’t.
I've been arguing with countless customer service people, being transferred all around, getting promised to be contacted and never contacted. I've escalated my problem twice now with HP to hear from case managers and I've yet to hear from them despite their promises.
I've got the invoice from the Geek Squad to prove that it was a defective motherboard. I saw another person at the Geek Squad TODAY while picking up my laptop with the same exact problem, with an HP laptop! Why should people pay 300 dollars to make sure their laptops last more than one year? They may not be obligated to fix these problems by law but it'd be the right thing to do seeing as how it was their fault. In today’s economy I can't afford 500 dollars to fix everything when HP initially put a bad motherboard in my laptop in the first place!
And to top it all off, my hard drive ALSO fried -because- my motherboard had fried!
I changed my HP to boot with legacy CSM, but I couldn't boot from the Windows 7 boot disc. The laptop was shipped with Windows 8 configured for UEFI boot before my change.  The screen after boot is blank and now I can't even get to the bios menu.Â

I have tried a Windows 8 USB recovery drive, but the computer doesn't seem to try to boot from flash, even with the hard drive disconnected and the CD tray open.Â

I watched a video of a man disassembling an HP Pavilion completely down to the base plate, but I did not see a back-up or RTC battery anywhere in the computer. If I could find the bios back-up battery for removal or reset the bios somehow with the hardware, i would do that. I waited for 4 hours without the main battery attached without any change. At this point I don't know if this model Pavilion even has backup battery. How to reset the bios to default UEFI setting without a bios menu? Note that pushing F2/F8/F9/F10/F11 and a whole bunch of other keys does not bring up the bios menu at boot time (like it did when it was in UEFI mode).

My next steps are to use the HP Recovery Media application on a 2nd computer to create 6 Window 8 DVDs and see if these will boot from the CD. If that doesn't work, I'll contact HP support and see if they can send me a custom recovery disc.Â

It seems strange to me that I can't even get to a bios menu in legacy mode. Is this normal? I suspect that my configuration change corrupted something and no booting will work any more. If booting from disc doesn't work, I think I'm stuck with trying to drain whatever back-up power source keeps the bios in-state, however long that is.

I've confirmed the BIOS is locked in AHCI on my laptop model, so the solution is to update the SATA storage driver to the latest native Microsoft driver, but I don't know how to do that. The only driver available on my system is "Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA RAID Controller"

I am having problems with some Blu-Ray DVDs in my DV9774ca with a optiarc BC-5500A ATA.
When I put some Blu-Ray DVDs in the drive starts to spin and makes the normal searching noises for 30 seconds and then it stops without doing anything at all.
I decided to try download a firmware update, but the site says not to flash SATA drives with PATA firmware.
How can I find out what it is? I can only assume its SATA. The firmware I found is for PATA!
Also I assume that the firmware I already have is older than the downloadable version (not from H.P.). The downloadable version is 1.05 from November/08. I bought my laptop in Feb/08.

I have an HP dv9000 laptop.
It came with Windows Vista, at one point I was dual-booting Vista/XP, and I am currently using Windows 7beta.
I recently went in my bios settings and tried to enable native sata support, and after that, my computer wouldn't go into Win7, until i disabled it again.
It was enabled when i first got my computer, and i had to disable it for XP compatibility. I figure, if it works with Vista, there's no reason it wouldnt work with Win7. Perhaps it's configured to run without the setting, so enabling it effs it up and confuses it. is there any way i can enable it again, preferably without having to do a full OS install?
For the dv3t or dv4t, the specs list it as SATA compatible. Does this mean I can't pop in a SATAII SSD? [url]

I have noticed recently when I download or update anything, instead of restarting as before, it hangs up and after about 5 minutes it goes into hibernate and won't come out of it.

how to slipstream sata drivers onto Windows XP installation disk I decided to try it out. I had two unsuccessful attempts and I'm wondering that it probably is due to me using the wrong drivers for the job.

We couldn't for the life of us get the Seagate HDD recognized when plugged inside the eSATA port. Worked fine via the alternative IEEE1394 connector, though. The "super-duper" trick recommended by the manufacturer, consisting of mere rescanning drives with the HDD manager in Computer Management did not effect in anything. Nor did installation of Intel's hard drive manager (which came with a driver update under the veil)
But the dealer whom he bought the HDD from insisted that the HDD worked fine via eSATA, so it doesn't appear to be a hardware problem, nor could a defective cable be the culprit, since he used the very same.
I want to enable my RAM in dual channel mode... what is the process to do this? i have already checked in CPU-Z that it is currently in single channel mode.
View 1 Replies View Relatedinstalling Windows XP on my HP Pavillion Dv2100. Windows could load with Native Sata disabled but when I try to enable it, it gives me a BSOD during the Windows loading screen. I tried doing the steps on [url] and it still doesnt work.
I also tried reinstalling Windows with Native Sata enabled but it says Windows cannot detect a hard disk. Tried reinstalling using a Flash Drive with Windows installed using WinToFlash and it said "Ntldr is missing".
