Jul 18, 2014I just got around to trying out this laptop from a few years back. It was stored and before that it had only been used a few times.
It's been freezing *every* time I use it. Mouse just freezes in place and it's stuck. I tried doing a fresh install with all of the system disks and it still froze. I then tried to upgrade it to Windows 7, it still froze and it was pretty slow, so I did another fresh install with the system disks. Now I'm back to WinXP and it's still freezing.
I checked the event logs and it doesn't seem to register anything - maybe freezing too quickly? It seems to freeze whenever I do heavy web browsing or transferring files on my network via wireless, But I can't be sure and that might be a false lead, it just seems to happen when I'm doing those.
I think it may be a broken fan, The center fan runs smoothly, but the fan with the cooling unit on the side never seems to run at all. Is there any way to tell if the fan is broken? Is there any way to manually make it run so I can check if it's working? Should it be on all the time, or does it only come on when it gets hot?

Aug 20, 2014Last night my laptop was working perfectly and then when I tried to turn the computer on, it loaded and went to the startup screen with the Microsoft logo and from there it got stuck. I tried to hit F11 but no satisfactory result. I've also tried to take the battery out, but that didn't work either. I also tried to Setup my windows bt it also stuck up there. I don't know what to do...I also ran tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory (Esc>> F10>> File>>System Diagnostics>>Memory tese/Hard Disk test). And the result was:Hard Disk Check: "Quick Check: SMART Check: NOT AVAILABLE and Short DST: WARNING" and "Extensive Check: PASSED in everything"Memory Check: PASSED now what should i do?Mine model is HP ProBook 4440s...Currently running on Windows 7.

Everytime I try to start up my laptop it always shows the menu screen saying Launch Start Up Repair or Start Windows Normally. I've tried to do a system restore multiple times, but the screen just stops on a blue screen. No it isn't the Blue Screen of Death, but it does attempt to start but fails and stands on the screen until it automatically or manually shuts down.

Dec 28, 2014My laptop has been messed up ever since I updated it.It all started when I got a notification to update to windows 8.1. It was all good until the next day when I started it up and it would not pick up any Internet connection even though I knew my router was working as I could get an Internet connection on my mobile. I went to the network and sharing center and it said there that it was disabled so I right clicked on it to enable it. After I clicked it, my laptop went to a blue screen and came up with the following message something like this: we've encountered a problem, we're gathering some error info and we will restart your device.
So, it restarted and I tried to re enable the network again and the same thing happened. After about 5 tries the restart thing kept happening. I didn't know what to do so I thought to just restore the laptop. I did that and now it's just in this continuous blue screen restart loop. I can't even get to the log in Window, it just keeps going to the blue Window and then restarting.This is a new laptop, not even 6 months old and it was fine until I was told to update. I'm thinking of just taking it into the repair Centre as I have warranty and I feel as if I can't fix this problem myself as I can't even get into my actual desktop.

Mar 12, 2014I have a 2 yr old Pavillion G7-1329 wm with Windows 7. I use Windows antivirus and firewall along with Malwarebytes for spyware. I have noticed recently when I download or update anything, instead of restarting as before, it hangs up and after about 5 minutes it goes into hibernate and won't come out of it.
I have to do a hard power off.
I have done a couple of restore points but it doesn't solve the problem.
I do use a cooling fan to prevent overheating although it does still get quite warm.

Jul 8, 2014I have recently purchased an HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook Windows 7 Professional (PC Product #: E1P05AV). I'll usually close the lid to put it into sleep mode when I have to do something else. But when I open it back up, it has the "Start windows normally or safe mode" sreen. I've noticed that this only happens after a certain amount of time of being in sleep mode. If I wake it up prior to that, it works just fine. I hope that this can be resolved since this is a brand new laptop.

Dec 28, 2009I'm having problems with my laptop (HP Pavilion dv4 1428dx) the last thing I did was put it to sleep, then cameback and tried to wake it up but it would not start up. All the lights are on, but the screen is black and the only thing I hear is the fan moving. The caps lock and num lock keys have a blinking light, not really sure what that means. The power LED is on, the battery LED is on, but the hard drive LED is not on.

A week ago it overheated(again), and after that it hasnt started anymore. Also F11 in startup(system recovery) doesnt work.

When it first crashed, I was playing a game, then the screen got all pixelated, then the blue screen. The computer has had overheating problems because the fan doesn't work 100%. It would shut off often from overheating, but I cleaned the vents out thoroughly, and it hasn't overheated since then. Since the computer wont start, I cant get to the crash dump files.

May 27, 2010I have had my Pavilion dv8 for a few months now. A month or two after I received it, I began experiencing problems with the slider treble/bass control. It would sporadically pop up and start changing the treble or bass at random intervals. It also randomly disconnected me from my wireless connection. I thought this might just have something to do with the slider being dirty, but after several attempts of cleaning it, it still remains a problem. At first it was just a little annoying, fixed by clicking the mouse or pressing the top internet button, but now it's REALLY annoying, even popping up as I write this post. Is "slider thing" the right term?
