HP/Compaq :: HP DV9500 Freezing In Normal Mode.
Dec 14, 2009
I have a HP DV9500 laptop with Vista. For the last 2 days I am encountering an issue where the Laptop would freeze 5 minutes after logging in. Then there is no HDD activity and the computer can only be shutdown by holding down the power button. I tried working with the "Safe Mode with Networking" option and this issues never comes up. I kept the system running for almost 5 hours in Safe mode still there was never an issue.
The Freezing only happens in the normal mode. If this was an Overheating/Hardware isssue then irrespective of the Mode the error should have occured is my thought. Overall the system was very fast even in the normal mode before this issue occured. I am also running coretemp software and the temperature is always around 35 Centigrade. Some times it goes up to 45s. But overall it never crossed 50. So i am not fully convinced it it is overheating issue.
The latptop is around 2 years old. Last year during the warranty period there was an motherboard issue and HP replaced my motherboard for free.
Would a system restore do any good if this is typically a hardware issue. I am unable to decide weather it is an hardware issue or a software issue.

I received my laptop a little over a week ago, and ever since I've been using it, the applications/laptop will freeze for a period of time. Sometimes recovering and moving on, other times I have no choice but to force shut down the laptop.
There are times when it will freeze, and only 1 app is frozen, but the sound is running, or I can do other things while it works itself out. When this happens, sometimes I can open task manager, other times, nothing happened. Then even if I manage to open the task manager, I can NOT shut the frozen application down. Either the freezing works itself out, and then it closes down like normal/should when telling it to close this way, or the computer eventually locks up completely.
I did remove Macafee, and after reading some, used the total removal program from their site. However, this has not fixed my issue. My game still froze, forcing me to restart, and after restarting my web browser still froze for about a minute while trying to get here to make this post.
What if anything can I do to find out what is causing this problem? I have tried updating my drivers from Lenovo, this hasn't worked. I thought about using the diagnosics tool from Lenovo, but those do not seem to usable by the IdeaPad series.

I have an HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook PC. The other day, it crashed and gave a blue screen error. Since then, it wont start. Ive tried starting it normally and in safe mode, neither work. This is the information given in the blue screen.:
win32k.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Technical Information:
***STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFF901C066263C, 0X0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF9600006CCA3, 0x0000000000000005)
*** win32k.sys - Address FFFFF9600006CCA3 base at FFFFF96000000000, Datestamp 53c5df64
When it first crashed, I was playing a game, then the screen got all pixelated, then the blue screen. The computer has had overheating problems because the fan doesn't work 100%. It would shut off often from overheating, but I cleaned the vents out thoroughly, and it hasn't overheated since then. Since the computer wont start, I cant get to the crash dump files.

I have a dell Inspiron N5110 which is just over a year old. I upgraded to windows 8 not too long ago and my laptop has been just fine until today. When I close the lid or do anything to put my computer to sleep, it freezes up. The power button light stays solid and it seems like the computer is stuck. The only way to get it to do anything is to hold the power button down. My bios is updated to A11 which is the latest version. I don't know what else to do. Seems like I've tried everything but I can't figure it out.

When I put my laptop to sleep by closing the lid, I'm finding that when I come back to it there will be a BSOD with the message DPC Watchdog Violation showing. I've also noticed that sometimes the laptop will become frozen on going to sleep or hibernating. The only way to get it to completely shut down it by holding the power button down.
I've updated to the latest bios and drivers on the Dell Drivers Support site and am at my wits end now.

I am trying to find a solution to repair a Vista (Home?) installation on an Aspire 5920. The laptop blue screens with a Stop error code 00000F4 when booted in either Normal and Safe Mode. This problem started after installing a program although it may also have a malware/virus problem. The inbuilt Startup Repair and System Restore both fail.
I have the Acer Recovery disks but the Acer eRecovery website suggests that all personal data will be lost if they are used. Is it possible to repair the OS installation from the recovery disks instead of reinstalling it?

Last night I was on my computer working on a graphic design project for school (was running Photoshop) when the screen went a weird purple color and then completely blank after a minute or so. The computer was still running, however, and pretty hard at that, so I shut it off. Since then, whenever I turn it on the screen shows up split into four, equal, horizontal parts.
If I do not touch anything, it will continue to show the Microsoft loading screen, but then shows a blue screen for a few seconds then reboots. Screen Pic
If I press Esc at the initial restart Screen Pic, it launches "Windows error recovery" and gives a choice between using 'Launch Start Up Repair' and 'Start Windows Normally' Screen Pic. It will not start up Windows (Vista), instead it reboots the computer and starts all over again. When I try Startup Repair Screen Pic, after a few minutes, it asks me if I want to restore my computer using System Restore. After about 10 minutes I get a message saying that it cannot repair the problem automatically.

i'm thinking about upgrading my HDD's now. I've got an itch for better and bigger SSDs. I was thinking of buying a pair of Intel 80GB G1 or G2, OCZ Vertex 60GB, or OCZ Agility 60GB SSD's and put them in Raid0 on the laptop.
Currently I have a crappy a$$(OCZ Core series V2) ssd and a 5400 rpm hdd in the laptop atm, but i was thinking of getting something much faster to go with my T8300 CPU doing RAID0 on a 5400 or 7200 rpm hdd is dumb because of the heat issues... but RAID0 with SSD's would be just AWESOME. I have never dose RAID0 on a laptop before so i was wondering if its even possible to do it on a HP DV9500 laptop? My roommate has the Gateway FX with that 1900X1200 screen and he has RAID0 on his hdd's from the factory, so i was wondering if its possible to do it on the DV9500?

I have a HP dv9543cl that was purchased at Costco sometime in late 2007. My nVidia 8600m GS in the laptop started to break down in the summer of last year by presenting symptoms such as system lock-ups, freezing, unable to boot the computer due to video problems, etc. Eventually, the video card finally died in March of this year.
So I recently sent it in to HP (apparantly I had a 2 year warranty on the laptop... something I didn't know. Heh.) I told them of the nVidia issues and etc. so they agreed to replace my motherboard.
I got my laptop sent back to me by HP today with a replaced motherboard and keyboard as a bonus I guess. Anyway... looking in GPU-Z, I notice something strange from the original specs of the nVidia 8600m GS. The GPU clock speed and the memory speed is lower than specified on the nVidia website.
Also, I'm wondering, with this replacement... will this video card die eventually also? Or has nVidia given HP a new 'batch' of chipsets to replace the broken ones?
Here's a pic of my GPU-Z:
Also, my nVidia card is running (idle) at 69C. Is this normal/not unusual operating temperature?

Looking at one drive, in both areas area 1 is always significantly hotter than area 2's. A 15 C increase.
Is it possible to set a single harddrive in the 2nd HDD area (farther away from the CPU and GPU that are causing all the heat), with the 1st area empty?
I tried simply moving it from area 1 to area 2, and it said it couldn't find the OS. Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling?

I have an HP Pavillion dv9500. It worked perfect up until about two months ago. One day I turned it on and the screen wouldn't show anything. The computer actually turns on and all of the keyboard lights turn on but the screen is blank. It seems like the backlight lights up because the screen turns into that light grayish color but it doesn't actually show a picture. I've hooked it up to my tv using an HDMI cable and I don't get a picture on the tv either.
I've read about people having the same issue with their HP pavillion and have tried numberous fixes from other forums online, but nothing has worked.

I may have to replace my fan assembly for a dv9500. There are 2 different parts, one for discrete video system memory and one for UMA type memory. Any suggestions on how to determine the type I have? I have had no luck finding it in the device manager.

I have a HP Pavilion dv9500 notebook and yesterday after more than two years of pretty much running smoothly it wouldn't boot. First it actually booted into windows but the whole desktop screen was frozen with mouse cursor. So I turned it off, turned it back on and it booted into blue screen and restarted itself. After couple of tries I booted into safe mode which was running fine.
I wasn't sure what the problem was but I was thinking it must be software related, so I loaded an image of my system which I've used before and knew was ok. But even after putting a brand new OS it was doing the same thing.
One time I was actually able to boot into normal mode so I thought maybe the issue got resolved magically. But, I have my external monitor plugged in and even when in normal mode the signal wouldn't go through, so I had to use my laptop monitor. I kept trying to switch the signal and even though it was showing the icon like it's transferring nothing happened. So I checked my video card properties and the card all of the sudden had no drivers and was basically unrecognized by the OS.

I'm running World of Warcraft in normal graphics (using Windows XP, SP3), using the notebook on some plastic/wood surface and my temperatures according to SpeedFan and CPUTemp are aproximately:
- GPU: 90C
- Temp1: 45C
- Temp2: 45C
- Core1: 72C
- Core2: 71C
The computer is about 5 months old. I am using it over a notebook cooler like this one [url], and about 2 inches above the table. Are these normal temperatures, especially regaring to the GPU? Up to now, I haven't experienced any freezzing, lagging, shutdown, blue screens or lines in screen yet, but it get's excessively hot, more on its right upper side.
Common usage temperatures are around:
- GPU: 55C
- Temp1: 45C
- Temp2: 45C
- Core1: 62C
- Core2: 62C

I got my wife an HP DV2 for Mother's Day. She was extremely excited because she has needed a new laptop for quite some time. Anyway, we opened it and started to boot it up everything was looking good. I then happened to glance down at the mouse buttons and noticed that the left button looks as if it was pressed. There is definitely a gap when running your finger across the buttons. When pressing the right mouse button, it moves down as far as the left button sits while unpressed.
Now, I should clarify that the left button still works, it is just sitting lower than it seems like it should. I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this with their "brand new out of the box" HP DV2. My wife and I were both extremely bummed out, only because I equate it to buying a brand new car and noticing that the headlight is pressed in a little it and is uneven. Are we being too picky? To us, it seems ridiculous that a $700 laptop would have a quality issue like this.
I'm attaching a couple pictures showing the issue - in one, you can see me pressing the right button down to the level of the left unpressed button.

I have been looking online and getting mixed results regarding buzzing noises from ac power adapters. My old hp dv6000 laptop powerbrick did not make buzzing noises as loud as my new dv6-1235cl from costco.
I noticed that a lot of people now hear buzzing noises from their ac adapter. Then I came onto this website.
[url]
Is this a bunch of bs or are they for real?
I can hear the buzzing noise when I put my ac adapter on the table, but almost non existent when its on the ground. I want to know if this will be a fire safety hazard in the future? I dont want my house burning down even when this thing is plugged in.

I have a dv5t with an eSATA port and an external antec enclosure with a sata harddrive in it. It works really well but it freezes my entire computer every half hour of so. Sometimes it makes my display driver stop also. I didn't know if there is a better sata drive or a way to make the computer not try to access the harddrive if I'm not trying to get a file off it.

I have an HP Pavilion DV9443ca (Turion 64 x 2, onboard nvidia, etc.) that's freezing, mostly on bootup when the Vista bars are going, and blue-screened in Windows a few times.
- hard drive checks out with manufacturer diagnostics, and no slow spots with MHDD
- ran Windows Memorry Diagnostics and RAM checks out okay with thorough diagnostics
- also ran some in-Windows memory diagnostics for kicks, no issues.
- in Windows, I can run Orthos for hours and the CPU will peak a highest of 90 degrees celsius which is just within AMD's operational limits of the CPU.
- BIOS revision is actually 1 level higher than listed downloadable on HP's site.
