I have a DV9500tCTO and a DV6000tCTO. Both of them had the issue of good hard drive to SD card performance, but abhorible SD to hard drive performance. It would run one core to 100% and 75% for the other. I contacted HP today about it and they told me about the F.59 BIOS that was designed to fix the issue. My current had been F.52. So I loaded it on my 9000 and rebooted, all good, better temps, and my SD worked as it should. So they said load it on the 6000 and check results. Everything seemed to go fine, said successful, brought up reboot message box, let the timer count down as normal, it shut down. Hit power button and fricking nothing! Black screen, and leds come on. Mute button turns orange, then goes blue and stays blue. Wireless light is orange. The fan starts up fast then slows to a quiet (like minimum speed) run. I don't know what to do. "Within the next 24-48 hours" my escalated case correspondant is supposed to call. I'm a college student. I cannot afford to replace this crap. And I can't afford 300$ charge i've been seeing float around for BIOS repair by HP. My 9000 still has 1.5 years of warranty, I wish it would have happened to it. My 6000 is out of warranty. I gotta have this second laptop for school, no way around it. But I can't afford to replace it right now, I just paid 6,500$ in tuition/rent/books. I did this according to a service techs recommendation, I don't see how I should have to pay for the ed update.
I have followed the method from this forum to flash my dv4t BIOS from F31 to F55, but , now my computer can not start when i push the power button!! it is black screen!
Having problems with the cursor, I have tried various Drivers but to no avail, so i replaced the Palmrest and the problem still exists, The bios recognises the Touchpad, can't figure out were the problem is coming from.
My dv8t should arrive thursday. It has the 320 7200rpm hd in it. I've been sitting on the fence on purchasing a ssd as a boot drive for it. I have narrowed the ssd's down to the 30gb OCZ vertex drive on newegg [url] for $99 + $45 hd cage from new modes [url] for the setup.
So, I'm asking myself if by doing this, I will notice a tangable difference in the computer performance, or if i should just wait awhile and see where the prices and speeds go in the next few months. If the upgrade will make a noticable difference, then I think i should buy it... but if its something that will just increase benchmark scores, then its something that i can hold off on.
is there any chance or news or rumor of the dv8t or perhaps even a new model/series that would get the HD 5870 Graphics Card? This notebook is excellent & is running all other latest specs .... but the GPU option absolutely sucks! A complete deal breaker.
I just recieved my dv8t quad laptop today. However, for some odd reason, the keyboard does not work. It is recognized by Windows, but pressing keys does nothing. You cannot even launch the BIOS with the keyboard. The touchpad does work, but the entire keyboard does work. The HP Quick Smart buttons (those lit buttons on top of the keyboard) do work, but the actual keyboard does not.
Just purchased... haven't received yet.... rather than try and clean up the existing system... I plan on installing a fresh windows 7 OEM.
Are there any problems to expect that those who have preceded me could help with?
1. Do you recommend installing windows and then updating all current drivers from HP's site or get the latest available?
I've always enjoyed running drivers without bugs more than try to eek out a little more performance and put up with bugs. This computer is going to be far faster than anything I need anyway..... so I prefer stable bugless drivers!
I currently own a ZV6000 and I learned not to trust Microsofts drivers or even some of the manufacturers drivers for that matter as the one from the HP site are the only ones proven to be bugless... is that still the case with the dv8t?
2. Previously with XP I have done a total reinstall and found much better performance than trying to clean the existing bloatware.
I've read some folks can't tell the difference.
I"m feverishly reading as much as I can to offset any mistakes I'll regret.
3. Should I try and use my existing OEM serial number than came with my computer or is that considered used already?..... just thought if I could use it, I could save the OEM serial that comes with my new purchase of windows 7 OEM so I can install later on another computer.
I"ve technically paid for two licenses.... just don't know how that will all work and I really don't want to fuss with all the bloatware, easier for me to spend the cash.
I just want to get the system totally installed and up and running with no device manager errors and all working.. then I can worry about tweaking further.
now that i have finished building my notebook cooler, I'm bored...and thus, I started to read up on the current ssd drives. So, I have come to the decision to sell my wife and use the proceeds to buy a ssd for my laptop. I'll be using this as a OS drive and the 320gb drive that comes stock as storage. Now, the question becomes: which one to get? They all seem the same to me? I be interested to hear which ones you think are the best and which ones present the best value.
I just wanted to know which had the better graphics card?
the gt 230m or the gt 320m? I looked up the 320m on notebook check but I'm getting blank info. also, which one would you guys prefer between the dv7t and dv8t?
I got my dv8t about a week ago, and the fingerprint reader that was pre-installed kinda worked, though it would drop out from time to time. I tried downloading an updated driver, but it flat-out refused to install. I didn't think much of it, but when I tried to do Windows Anytime Upgrade, it destroyed everything on the hard drive, including access to the recovery partition. It's just gone.
Now, I've rebuilt the system from a Win7 OEM DVD, and everything works perfectly... except the fingerprint reader. The program that is causing the problem is Validity Sensors DDK. It gets to "Please wait while Windows configures Validity Sensors DDK."
After about 10 seconds of that, the box disappears. The hard drive stops, and there is no longer any trace of the setup program in the Task Manager. I have the latyest version of Digital Persona, and it says no fingerprint reader is installed. However, Validity Sensor shows up in the device manager (VFS301, 2.1.0.2) and Validity Sensors DDK shows up in Add/Remove programs. I can uninstall it (really, i think it just removes it from the list) but the "repair" option does nothing. I have tried different versions of it that I've found in various places.
Of the above SP's, I have tried installing them in regular mode, Admin, Compatibility mode, XP mode, and Safe Mode. None of them will get any farther than I have described above. One time, and only one time, I got the following error message:..........
Just picked this up. Let me know if I got a good deal. I wanted to buy a Dell, but didn't want to spend over $1500 for the Studio 16 XPS. Dell was offering the Studio with Core2 Duo and did not offer a sale on the i7 version. Hope I dont miss out on the LED LCD screen.

i just bought hp dv8t quad laptop recently. the first time i turned on, treble bar (blue horizontal bar to adust treble that is supposed to appear only when i touch that touch tone above keyboard) came up on middle of screen intermittently. everytime i run other application, this bar would come up and stops other application. i spent over 1 hr with hp tech to fix it. now everytime i turn on, this blue bar still comes up but after i adjust treble via tone control above keyboard, it disappears. tech says there is no hardware defect, but i am wondering if others are like this.
I'm thinking about diving into the purchase of the HP dv8t, everything about looks good on paper except that the video card is a bit anemic.
I want to know if the motherboard uses the MXM standard and if the GeForce GT 230M inside is upgradeable in the future or is it soldered onto the motherboard?
I downloaded the latest 3813 bios from acer europe website. I am tying to run the winflash utility but I get the following error.
Cant load driver flashnt.sys

I have tried running as administrator already. Same error.
I was going to try running in vista compability mode or installing xp virtual machine, but I wanted to run it by you guys first.
Updating BIOS is not something to be taken lightly. It can birck your machine easily.
SO whats going on here?
Isn't there a way to update BIOS from the bios?
My asus desktop motherboard allows you to use asus ez flash utility from within the bios and flash from usb or your hdd. I wish this was the case here but I can see nothing of the sort.
I really didnt want to flash from within windows in the first place anyway, but I saw no other way. I'm supirsed there is no readme files or anything that came along with the file. And I cant see documentation on the acer website either. Just a link to the bios zipped with no support
I am currently runing bios 3805. The one that came with my laptop. I have had it for 2 years now and Im the process of trying to upgrade some things on it.
I recently bought an Acer 4810T943G (su9400) with Vista.
As seems to be common with Acer notebooks, it had a freezing problem, so I decided to flash the BIOS.
The version it shipped with was v1.10. I went to the Acer website and downloaded v1.31, extracted it, and executed the program. The InsydeFlash software told me 'This BIOS is not for your notebook'.
I tried the other BIOS recommended by Acer - v1.30, and even the special editions 2.30 and 2.31, but all came up with the same message.
I then located v1.28 from somewhere else, and this flashed successfully, but I still get freezes, so I'd like to try 1.30 or 1.31.
One thing I have noticed is that on the InsydeFlash software, the BIOS ID of v1.28 is described as JM41, whereas those of v.130 and v1.31 are described as AA, and A_A forms part of the file name on the v1.31 download.
Sony VGN-SR series bios update fail. now the computer is dead. battery light blinks. powers on, thats it. I know easiest way it to swap MB but warranty just over. damn viao updates!
Second time this has happened. I've downloaded the BIOS update from Acer's website.
Closed all programs, disabled the antivirus and went to flash it. Right after clicking start I get a Verify Error and the sytem freezes and is a dead unit. First time this happened they tried to tell me it was something like $150 to fix even though I did everything right. Now I went to do it again, same thing. Now Acer is telling me it will cost $450 to fix it. It's only 3 months old. They are also saying they are not responsible for anything downloaded from their web site.
So, couple questions. Has anyone successfully flashed their BIOS to 1.34? Does anyone know where you can buy motherboards cheap?
i jsut DL'd the CL50134_Winflash.zip from acers website to try and fix some issues i've found this can fix, i extracted it, shutdown all apps i could, hit start or run and up popped an error message.. system froze... sat there for about 30+ min (i was freakin the whole time) and nothing didn't move.. didn't budge... my screen saver popped on but before that it hadn't moved an inch... can't toggle capslock or numlock.. can't even get rid of the screen saver now.... i shut the system down (the bad way) and now nothing.. can't get it to turn on at all....
I have a HP dv6500 running Windows 7 for which I want to upgrade the pci-e mini wifi card to one of the intel cards available on Newegg, or perhaps a 4G card. However, I have read that the stock HP BIOS has a whitelist for wifi cards, and only select cards will work.  I have located a modified F5A bios that I am willing to try: [URL] .....  I have also heard that flashing a BIOS from Windows 7 will damage it, and the recommended solution is to reinstall Windows Vista. Is there some way around this? Could I perhaps use a PE CD?
I have an Vostro 1450, already at the latest available BIOS (A08). I have a problem which might be fixed by re-flashing the BIOS. However the BIOS upgrade utility (V1450A08.EXE) detects that I'm already at the latest version and sensibly refuses to "update". Is there a way I can force the upgrade utility to re-flash the BIOS?
After killing my old battery, my Latitude E6500 is refusing to detect the new battery I bought for it. It will run off the battery if I disconnect the AC, but will not charge, I have been using a co-worker's E6500 to recharge it.
I have been instructed to run the E6500 Bios flash, however since the computer does not detect the battery, it will not allow me to proceed with the flash. /forceit does not work. Are there any other command line variables I can use to make the bios upgrade perform without a battery check?
