HP/Compaq :: Dv1000 No Ide Device

Recently installed Windows 7 on the notebook, maybe a couple days, started the laptop up one morning and it went into a network boot loop. Went into the bios, and it said no ide device. Popped the hard drive into another notebook, it sees the hard drive (but thinks it's empty), sees it in Win 7 setup as well as in Ubuntu. How do i go about troubleshooting what could be wrong w/ the dv1000.
I figure it's either an issue w/ the motherboard or w/ the hard drive connector if the hard drive works fine in the other notebook.

I have a DV1000 here. It will shut off by itself (over heating?) and no longer recognizes the Hard Drive (even when booting from XP install cd).
This sucker has one of the recalled batteries.
Do you all think that the battery has caused the HD problem? I hope it fixes the turning on and off prob (there seems to be a lot of fan issues on this guy too, but I think the battery overheating has caused most of these overheating/fan issues)
I should be getting a new battery soon. As far as the HD issue:
I have an old Sony Vaio (wish that guy didn't die on me, it was pricey) this a 5200RPM IDE drive. I also have an old Dell Inspiron 3800 with a IDE drive as well.
-Anyone know if either of these HDs will be able to replace the current HD in my HP?

I'm trying to find out why my HP Pavilion dv1000 is randomly shutting down when I'm working on it...and when it does, sometimes I can't turn it back on without first popping the battery out and then putting it back in...
When it fails to re-start, I press the power button and all the little blue lights just flash for a second, and I hear this chirpy sound from inside the laptop...
So what I did was setup some logs with XP's Administrative Tools - Performance, to monitor the processor, memory, cache, etc, and then I will look at them to see what happens just before it shuts down.
I am no pro at this so this method is very experimental, I just started doing that this morning.
So does anyone know of this kind of problems? I read it might be a RAM problem,
it is not the battery, as it happens even with the battery out, just on AC power.
Does someone know of a diagnosing utility I might use, that would pinpoint just what happens before it shuts off?
The specs are
1.7 GHZ Pentium M, 1 GB RAM, Intel Graphics 900, windows XP SP 3

A friend gave me his dv1000/ dv1515cl to fix, I believe it's the mobo but not sure .when I plug in ac adapter wont boot but light shows batt. charging .If I unplug ac, remove batt. then I reinstall batt. all tights come on but when I open laptop it shuts off.

I have the DV9000 series Laptop. It is the DV9235NR model (but not the DV9200 series...shows DV9000 on the bottom).
Anyways...I decided to try to upgrade the interal wireless G with a wireless N card that is from HP. It has the HP part number and everything. When I put the card in, this error comes up. I read that the bios doesn't recongnize the card. I took the card out, booted up to Windows with my old wireless card, put the computer in sleep mode, took out the old card and put the new card in. Works perfect. I know the card it good.
How can I make the new card work without having to do this? I heard about a bios hack. How is this done? Could I modify the Wifi card also? I did update to the newest bios on my laptop (dated 2008) and that didn't work. How about a bios from another series laptop?

I just had to reformat my DV1000 due to a corrupt Windows XP installation. I downloaded the drivers from the HP website but they will not install, it just says FAILURE at the end of attempting to install them.
The p/n of my laptop is ED338AV.

After the complete melt-down of the old WinXp, I installed Win7 - so far most of ti works. However, WLAN doesnt work. (P/N is PY869PA#ABG, it also says dv1303ap on the label)
Is there any driver for WLAN available? Witout WLAn or internet access the good old HP is pretty useless....

I'm using the W540 with an ultradock and external monitors. After upgrading my W540 to win8.1 64 bit, device manager is showing an unknown device. I'm not quite sure what it is, but almost everything seems to be working fine and Lenovo solution center isn't finding any driver updates.
I did notice that the solution center hardware scan did not test the video card memory and listed that test as N/A. Video and monitors seem to be working fine though and both nvidia and intel graphics show up in device manager.
Device manager lists the device in question as follows:

I have just installed Windows 8.1 x64 on my Lenovo E330.
I downloaded drivers from the website, and installed all of them. But after that there's one device listed as Unknown in device manager, and I can't figure our which device it is.
Hardware ID is {48126E0D-4BDD-4D26-8A24-569C7AB522D6}SettingsDriver, so that doesn't identify the device.

Faced with the problem. No sound after the laptop. When you try to check the sound device, a window pops up "the device is already in use by another application." But no program is not running. After rebooting the laptop sound occurs. Drivers are all set.

UEFI boot mode, not Legacy.Drivers for sound downloaded from realtek.com.tw. With standard windows drivers sound is always there. Tried the previous version of the drivers - ineffectually. Could it be that the problem is due to the UEFI boot mode? I do not want to reinstall the OS mode Legacy just to check it out.

I just bought a B590, model 20208, with, i3-3110m, 500GB HDD, GeForce 720M.I installed Win 7 64bits, but in Device Manager, before installing all the drivers appeared Other Devices an Unknown Device with thise details: code 28, Device type: Other devices; Location: on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controllert . After installing drivers, the problem persists.Another problem was with PCI express but resolved with Intel Management Engine Interface drivers.Other problem resolved was with the GeForce 720 M videocard; wasn't recognized but resolved with the last driver from GeForce site. the last problem remained it's The Unknown Devices.

I have an HP Pavilion dv5-1183cl that has been upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) and I have some issues.I have four errors showing up in my device manager, three Base System Device and one Unknown Device, and I don't know what they are or where to get the drivers (since I don't know what they are). Additionally, the battery will not charge (there does not appear to be anything wrong with it physically). I am wondering if the below errors are related to the battery issue. Below are the hardware IDs for each error entry.

after i did clean install my os, i got a driver call unknown device..i install all the driver even gpu and intel chip.. it still having this problem. i use the online dirver updated but nothing found... then i use Hp.com online chat and ask them the problem but they couldn't give me an answer. now i am hopping you guy will know...

I have a hp tx2500z
When I turn on the power for computer there's a beeping noise coming from the hard drive I think and this message comes up in blue letters with a black background
" Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.

When I run the system diagnostics for the Hard Disk Test, it says:
"Hard Disk Test Failed
Hard disk not exist"
What do I do? I went to the website but its suggesting that I basically may have to do a system recovery to the factory installed state...I have a lot of stuff I don't want to lose.
I also tried removing the hard drive and putting it back in, that didn't help either.
I called tech support and I still have my warrranty so I will be getting a Hp box to put my tablet in within a few days. But they told me I would most likely lose all the data I have saved.
Then I used a liveCD in hopes of backing up my harddrive but the liveCD won't even boot..unless im doing it wrong...( burn iso to CD, then load CD into laptop, and press f10? and/or turn on computer with CD inserted in and then let it load if it wants to?)

My volume icon in the system try reads "No audio output device is installed." The audio device is not even recognized in the device manager (i.e. there is no yellow exclamation point or conflicted device to update a driver to). The system simply does not recognize the fact that a sound device exists.
I have tried many, many things:

I have an HP DV6700 Laptop, and I recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) (The full version from MSDN academic alliance, not the release candidate). A few days afterward, I had an issue where my speaker icon has a red "x" over it, and when I hover over it it says "no audio output device is installed". The funny thing is that the speakers worked after windows update installed an update, then they stopped a few days later, and I cannot for the life of me get the speakers to work again!

my Dv2418 has struck again......my webcam now disapeared.... I tried to do a system restore but for some reason, non are avaiable. Heres the catch tho.
On my vista partition the webcam cannot be found and there is no trace of it.
On my Windows 7 partition the webcam works.....

Anyways, I have just about every hardware set except for this one device windows can't figure out. I have a Pavillion Dv7t-2000 series and I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home premium 32 bit. I have just about done every driver install from the driver page that pertains to my config....

Just installed a new har drive into my Compaq CQ57. Ordered the recovery disks from HP. Put the first disk in disk drive as instructed and turned power back on. Now I'm getting a "No bootable device - insert boot disk" message. I thought that was what I had gotten from HP? how to recover system and then reinstall Windows 7?

My computer is HP Compaq 7900p small. I bought new graphics card which is Asus AMD HD6450. When I test it I saw problem - no sound.
When I click on Sounds tab, I see that AMD HDMI Output-AMD High Definition Audio Device - not plugged in and I couldn't change it to default device. When I troubleshooted it, problem was that one or more audio devices isn't running.
I was searched in google for solution, and found it that I need to change in BIOS from DVI port to HDMI port, but in my comp BIOS version is 7.11 and I don't see where it would be changed.
Only what I did was that I swapped integrated audio to enabled then I get sound from my speakers, but AMD High Definition Audio Device still isn't plugged in. How to change it to default!

Installed the new Win7 RC 64bit on my DV2-1030us last night. Was really fast and easy and everything seems to be working great... but in Device Manager, there is an "Unknown Device" with a yellow exclamation mark next to it.
Upon closer inspection it says that it's location is, "on ATi PCI Express (3GIO) Filter Driver". I have no idea what this is. My internet searches have taught little about what this actually is. I have found a few HP dirver downloads for this, but when trying to install them, it just says my system doesn't meet the requirements.
It doesn't seem to be affecting the performance of my system at all and it's not that big of a deal. I just don't like having yellow exclamations in my device manager.

I've downloaded a number of updated device drivers for my new FW490, from the Vaio update site. I've noticed, however, that these may not be the most recent drivers. For example, Sony shows the most recent Realtec audio driver as 6.01.5759, but when I checked on another driver site, it listed a newer driver : 6.0.1. 58. Should I stick with vaio downloads only?
