View 3 RepliesI have a brand new HP Envy dv7, windows 8, model # DV7-7240 laptop and I am trying to install dropbox from dropshots .....
View 3 RepliesI am looking to replace the HDD that I have installed in my ENVY 14t-1100. Can I replace the drive with a SSD? The laptop is roughly 3 years old.
Â
I would like to replace it with at least a 500 gb SSD.
I downloaded and burned an ISO Win7 install file (legal, I am using a purchased key to register it), and wanted to do a clean install of Windows 7 without all the HP Bloatware crap like the sticky at the top of this forum suggests.... and when the install is done its first restart, and is on the Completing installation... phase the second time, it gives me a:
"Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computers hardware".
Are you serious?
Does anyone have a fix for this please. I now have an inoperable, and un-installable brand new laptop. Sweet.
I am installing it via the USB DVD Drive, through a DVD (Not even a USB flash drive problem!). I have tried it twice now and it failed both times. I even tried reseting the BIOS settings to default.
It's obviously a glitch in something, because I was running Win7 on the laptop this afternoon.
How to install Windows 7 on HP ENVY 14-k010us? I can't install, because RAID Controller did not see any drives...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have all current drivers and software. It came with Windows 8 and I am trying to install 8.1. It does well until the restart. I do the restart and it gets part way through and the screen goes dark and hours later the screen is still dark. I press the power button and it says something like :Trying to recover install" and from there on nothing happens. I finally end up having to go back to windows 8.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an ENVY 17 (3277nr) with windows 8.1 in it but I'm unable to update it since several months ago so I decided to reinstall the OS so I went to the windows site that lets you download an ISO image of windows 8.1 to burn it into a disc (right now I dont have a 4gb usb at hand but is also possible).
Â
I already burned the disc by right clicking the ISO and selecting 'burn disc image' and changed the boot options but every time I turn on my computer all I see is a single underscore and then the regular windows 8 boot screen.
Â
I already visited wbesites in this regard and I've read things like the windows 8 UEFI thing (not on my laptop since I've upgraded from w7) and the security settings on the BIOS but none of them seem to fix the problem.
Â
Additional details:
Â
Oddly, when trying to open the burned dvd it only says 4.37gb out of 4.37gb, do you think my dvd drive might be damaged?
I have this HP envy 17 j000eb notebook with Windows 8 that I really would like to get rid of.
Â
I managed to install Windows 7 on it, but it doesn't recognise some hardware.
Â
Luckily audio and video works as well as the touchpad and DVD-rom, but I don't have any of network adapters installed, nor USB, and I still cannot find any drivers for them.
Â
It shows a dozen of pieces of hardware needed to be installed.

I attempted to upgrade my Win 8.1 ENVY DV7-7230US laptop to Win 8.1 via the App store. It said I had to clear all the updates first. So I went the System Updates Screen. When I clicked on it to see what updates were needed. The circling wait symbol appeared and never went away. I can not do any system updates, thus I can not download and install the FREE Win8.1 upgrade.

Ill install the driver and it works fine till I shutdown the laptop and restart it. Im pretty sure the driver is auto updating and not working correctly.

I have a inspiron 710M. Every time i try installing windows, my laptop shuts down. I have the recovery CD from Dell.
When i ran the diagnostics test, its giving me "DST short test" failed message.
I have checked my hard disk and there is no problem. I have formatted my drive and every single time i try to install windows, it shuts down at different times but never lets me install.
I have a E1705 with an 80GB hard drive. It took me three years to fill that guy up with XP. Still have XP buy the way.
Was considering purchasing a new laptop with a 128GB SSD. Would love to go higher ... too rich for my blood.
I am about to re-install Windows on my friend's laptop, an Aspire 4520.
I am not super familiar with laptops, however I have noted that at the top
of his desktop, there is an utility program, a toolbar that I think is called Empowering Technology. My friend uses it mainly to check his battery charge
level, although there are a few other tools in this bar, like "acer eData Security Management".
The problem is, if I reinstall Windows, all programs on the Windows partition will be erased. That included this program/toolbar. And I don't know where to get back it back...like where to download a new one for installation.
on my dell studio 1535, whenever i try to install latest version of windows live mesenger, works fine first time,, but when i restart my windows,,
it shows me blue screen memory dump,, then when i repair,, it removes those installations of live messenger,,
I have checked,, its hapneing with only windows live messenger ...
I have tried 5 to 6 times,,

I think I made a mistake in purchasing my Inspiron 15 without a CD drive. This laptop came with Windows 8 (I hate it) and I would like to install Windows 7 (I love it), but not sure that I can. Forget it. I am not thinking. I just need to attach an external drive.

But in this case i dont know how to install xp. and my next question is that can i play cd in DVD-Dual double layer.
I have not used my webcam for a while, but recently updated Skype. When I went to use the web cam it was not detected. When I try Cyberlink Ucam it says no webcam detected. I checked the driver in Device Manager and it is ok. I used HP Recovery Manager and reinstalled the Cyberlink software but it is still undetected. Is there some keyboard switch for the camera or something simple that I am missing??
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have downgraded this laptop to Windows 7 x64 (from Win8 x64), all was successful except the wifi drivers.
Â
The driver installer supplied from HP just crashes and manually extracting and forcefully installing drivers results in a blue screen crash. I have also tried whom I beleive to be the chipset manufacturer, Ralink, for drivers but I get a "device could not start" error.
Â
It should also be noted that I have a few other unknown devices which may be impeding progress but I could just be clutching at straws.
I have purchased a new HP 15-s005tx with a dos operating system. install a fresh copy of windows 7 using bootable dvd.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Dell Studio 1535 and encountered the following problem:
I inserted my windows xp installation cd (as the laptop came with no OS). Windows setup began running, installing a multitude of drivers and files as it should until a message, something in the likes of "starting windows" (up to this point the screen is still the dos-style setup program). After a few seconds, a MS windows blue screen appears, stating that it encountered a fatal error.
I admit that I messed up in trying to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit without reformatting and using a flash drive and instructions downloaded from YouTube. And yes, I have learned a great lesson from this experience. Now I have purchased from DELLÂ a Windows 7 CD along with a drivers CDÂ for me to start over with. I would like to know how to do this the right way. I have a Inspiron laptop model 17R N7110. I am hoping that this fresh install will put this laptop back like it was when it was new. Minus the bloatware of course.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have HP Envy dv6 7200t laptop which I purchased directly from HP.
In the speifications I requested a special graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M with 2 GB dedicated ram.
I am using Windows 7 64 bit in English.
Â
Now I didn't have much use for such a graphic card until today - I installed a game and it pointed out my graphic card sucks and the game won't run smoothly on it - it said my graphic card is Intel HD Graphics 4000.
Â
I checked the device manager and found out 2 graphic drivers - for both of the listed graphic cards.
both of them are up-to-date (I made sure about the second one from nvidia control panel, and even reinstalled it just incase)
Â
Assumptions:
I am not much of a hardware expert but I assume I do have 2 graphic card - internal on the motherboard (intel) and external (GeForce) - And if thats the case, somehow Windows chooses to use Intel instead of GeForce.
Â
I also made sure of it by disabling the Intel HD Graphics 4000 from the Device Manager and my screen went black - I guess its safe to assume that indeed the intel driver is the one in use.
I have HP envy 15 j002er laptop. Originally I got it with Windows 8 but then I changed operation system to Windows 7 Pofessional (64-bit).I can`t install IDT high definition audio codec on it. I guess that is the reason why I don`t have and I can`t use Beats Audio interface on my laptop (only speakers are working). There are no audio drivers for Windows 7 available for download on HP website. When I`m cheking for driver updates via HP support, it proposes me only updates for Chipset, Graphics, Network, etc.And no Audio Driver..How can I solve it and install IDT high definition audio codec?

Thinkin of doing it but looking for a guide, there is a youtube video but its bad.
I replaced hard drive with SSD and installed windows 7 ultimate (X64) on my HP Pavilion G4 notebook. However, I am not able to install switchable graphics on my laptop now.
Â
I have tried this
1. Installed HPSA and ran update and tuneup. It asked me to update "AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver" but it failed with multiple retries and after some time now it doesnt ask to do this update at all. Now everything is green in HPSA but I am still not able to switch the graphics
2. Tried to download from HP drivers page but it says "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible harware/software on your computer"
3. Tried uninstalling the driver but windows updates the drivers automatically.
4. I also updated BIOS as suggested at [URL] ..... but still no luck......

I attempt to download the HP Updates via HP Support Assistant, but they fail to install. They download okay, but they don't install. In fact, on a couple they open an install window and go to 100% but then pause and give me an x instead of the green checkmark. (And what is really strange is that the audio driver gave me the checkmark but after restarting says it still needs to be updated).
I have tried the updates several times, and I have restarted as well. Nothing seems to work.

Here are the updates that won't install:

Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver
Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver
Synaptics TouchPad Driver

My laptop arrives soon and just wanted to make sure this would work.Â
