HP Pavilion 15-n278sa :: Maximum Temperatures For Various Components In Laptop
Jan 14, 2015
Is there anywhere I can confirm the maximum recommended temperatures for various components in my laptop?
Â
I'm running CPUID HWMonitor after just having bought a chill pad but I'm not sure if the "max temperature" values are being read from my machine or are just arbitrary.
Â
Also, am I correct that you can't read the fan speed on this model with any kind of diagnostic or monitoring app?

The model is a HP Pavilion 15-n278sa. My laptop shuts down randomly when it is clearly completely cool, when it has shutdown, the power button will not respond, and the laptop will flash on, and shutdown immediately if it is moved/picked up/tilted, while it is off.The laptop is increasingly getting more unstable and I'm unable to use it...

I have tried every setting available on this laptop, from all set to default to trying multiple changes in all the settings. The volume is consistently low and has a very annoying reverb and echo effect, even with those settings turned off. I have only had it for a week, and I have been very pleased with everything else accept the audio. The reason for purchasing this model was for multi-media processing and so far I and becoming more disgusted daily with it. It is a Pavilion dv6 and it has the beat audio software.

I have found a "fix" for my laptop's fans not going fast when needed (Putting in Stand-by/Sleep Mode and Waking it up), But is it normal to be having these temps at regular usage?

I have a HP DV9700 laptop that I bought about 1 and half year ago. The RAMS need to be replaced, and what's the maximum RAM speed (The Mhz, not the amount of GB) can I use in this laptop?
The old one was PC5300 667 Mhz 2 x 2GB RAM
Can I use PC6400 RAM? because It's more easily available than the old PC5300.

Just received my new xps 15 touch 9530 and have been using it for about a week. Â I was starting up the laptop and plugged it in during the startup sequence because it was very low on battery. Â Ever since this the laptop will not reach its full brightness. Â When i use the function keys to adjust it the bottom half of the brightness bar does nothing meaning the max value is not reached. Â This also happens under power and control panel brightness options.

I aquired this Laptop in...October 2009. I'm really happy with it, but I have a question.
It reaches high temperatures while gaming, about 90º-95º and it's keeps around 70º in idle.
I haven't noticed any problem with performance or anything, only the fan kicks really high as soon as I start a game.
Is it normal? I always heard that AMD Cpu's are hotter than Intel.

I'm looking at buying a new laptop, and I'm curious about one issue when comparing a MacBook Pro to any brand of high-end PC: the graphics.
In looking at PCs, each has a graphics card option in customization, namely the ATI Radeon 3870/4870 or the nVidia Geforce GTX 260m/280m. As Mac's don't support PC components, they do not have the same customizable option.
What exactly powers the graphic performance in a MacBook Pro and how does it compare to the aforementioned graphics cards found in high-end PCs?

I have kept quiet about my exchange because I don't want to bring the wrath down upon me of people thinking I am trying to pull one over on dell. However, I now feel the need to vent a little.
I received my 1710 about a year ago. It originally shipped with the basic card but I upgraded through dell, having their techs come out and do the install, to a 7900GTX 512 MB. I was assured many times through the process that the upgraded card would fall under my complete care warranty should something go wrong.
Well something went wrong, 1.5 years later I have suffered from many heat issues and they have replaced the exact same 7900 card TWICE! Then we had an accident with my dog and a glass of Ice Tea. Needless to say the laptop is non-functional now. I was issued a complete care replacement machine and this is where the nightmare started.
They upgraded me to a 1730, saw fit to upgrade my processor to a 2.2, and gave me 4 (!) gigs of ram, but then crippled the system by including 1 8700m 256mb card. I immediately called Dell before the system shipped and implored them to look at my history, and see I upgraded the card. That I would happily exchange half that ram (for an 1800 dollar credit) towards the purchase of an equivalent card. The rep had sympathy but told me that my system doesn't have a service tag so they can't schedule a swap, he set up a call back from a manager for the next day where he assured me that I would be taken care of. That was Tuesday.
Wednesday came and went with no call, I called them after work and got someone who couldn't possibly understand why I didn't receive a call back, and he went to work in his area to try and solve my issue. It turns out that there is a call center in Oklahoma and a call center in Utah. The Utah office has the only staff that has the authorization to replace my card. He scheduled another call back for Thursday, assured me that everything was in the notes, and that I would receive resolution.
That evening the laptop was waiting for me. I knew there was a problem when I opened the box, as the laptop is missing the service tag sticker on the bottom. There is no power cord (only the AC adapter half) in the box, but no worries it's a standard PC plug and I have tons of those. I plug it in, open the lid and hit the switch... and nothing. No power, no lights, no nothing. I fiddle with the plug in the back of the case and I see lights flash. A lot of upward pressure and I have power! So problem number 2, Faulty AC Jack. I'm cruising along at this point checking things out, and I go to the invoice to check the parts list vs. what is physically there. Pop off the memory plate and there is only one 2 GB card in the case. Okay I'll call about that, fire up the machine... Boot error, open the hard drive bay... no HDD................

I've owned my M1330 for a few months now, and have been very happy with it. But today, all of the sudden, things changed. I understand that a fan speeds up when a laptop gets hot, but this is not the case here.
All of the sudden today, this started happening: The fan is always on (around 3000rpm). However, the temperatures are usually low (CPU:38-50 , GPU:47-49). The laptop doesn't even get hot.
I've already cleaned the dust out of the the fans/vents, just in case.
My bios is the one that came with the laptop: A09

I recently purchased a M170 with 6800 Ultra off ebay and have been using it for the past week or so. During this time, I have noticed that the temps get quite high when running graphic intensive applications. I currently have an e1705 with a 7900GTX installed so I am familiar with the heat dissipated from a high end graphics card but the M170 seems to get very hot in comparison to my e1705. I am not sure what are considered high temps so I will just post my readings from I8kfan (these are the peak temps):
CPU: 95
GPU: 91
Mem: 77
Chipset: 80
Are these readings too high or about normal?

Alright boys 'n girls!
Considering all the debate going on about the ventilation on this system, I figured it would be best to see the sort of temperatures people are getting.
Post your HWmonitor screenies or the temps alone! Also, make sure you post what power mode you're in! Don't forget to mention whether you have the 9500 or the 9400!
Let's see those screenies!
I think after we get some temperature readings, we will be able to conclude just how bad the ventilation issue is.. if at all.

System:
CPU: Intel t7500 2.2 Ghz
RAM: 2GB 667Mhz
HD: 1 HD 5400 RPM 250 GB
GPU: Nvidia 8600M gt 512 MB ddr2
I got these temperatures by running orthos to stress the cpu, and furmark to stress the gpu at the same time. Are these temperatures normal for an Acer Aspire 5920g? Cause I find these temperatures rather high, and I'm wondering if these are safe. I already have applied some artic silver 5 thermal compound to the both the gpu and the cpu.

My friends model Sony Vaio FZ (VGN-FZ17G) which is the exact same model as mine currently ran into a hardware problem with the GPU (NVIDIA 8400M GT) which is causing his computer to crash and has since turned the GPU off and is running on board graphics. Apparently its going to cost him about 1k (AUD) as its out of warranty to fix as they need to also replace the Motherboard.
He does play quite a few games on it unlike me which I use this computer mainly for design work.
This got me thinking since I've always told him my notebook always runs reasonably hot and thus the fan goes up and down loudly which he never really experienced nor ever complained about haha.
I've just installed the speedfan application
I've had this computer up running the entire day doing basic work like internet browsing/photo viewing and Photoshop usage. Currently its idling at
GPU 75C
CORE1 70
CORE2 70
are these temperatures normal on the vaio FZ notebook models?
what are yours?
these will only go higher when playing a video game such as Left 4 Dead or video rendering with Premiere Pro if these are just basic work temps and that's a bit worrying for me.

I have been reading about the Envy 15 (as I'm getting closer to buying it). However, one thing that concerns me is regarding the temperatures.
So, how hot does it get?
Most likely, I'll be getting the dual SSD rig. For anyone who owns that, how hot does it get for you?
My setup is looking like the i7-820, 8GB RAM, 5830, dual-SSD. I have thought about going to the 16GB RAM option as well, though I doubt I need it.

I have a dv2815nr (amd turion tl-60, 1mb L2, 1600m system bus; 14.1" wxga, 3gb ram, nvidia 7150m) and it works well for me, though I wish i could play games on it better.
Anyways, I undervolted the processor to a 0.9250 VID, which manages to take some of the heat off the processor. However, the temperatures, I think, are still too high.
Temperature when waking up after a while: ~35C
Idle Temperature: ~55C
Web Surfing Temperature: ~68C
Windows Movie Maker Temperature:~80C
I've propped up the feet so the heatsink sights about 3/4 an inch off the table, and it sits above a metal box.
I've heard that HP laptops are somewhat warmer than most, but is mine still too hot?
It'd be great if there are still ways to reduce the temperature.

I've been wondering if anyone with the GPU HD 4650 could post your temperatures. I'm looking into a 2177, with P7550 and HD4650. But searching about the temperatures, I've encountered some people with problems (on older models...)
reporting your temperatures?
Also, does the keyboard, or the place where your wrist "sits" gets hot?
I'm really worried about the temperatures because my actual notebook (which has the same HD4650, but a little bit underclocked) has temperature issues. I can't even run Crysis on full settings that it will just go all black and I have to force the shutdown.

i'd like to know what kind of temps to expect from a normally working card.
What are your temps on idle (normal room temp 20c-30c)
and what are the max temp it reaches when say we run the ati tool graphical view. (Just for reference - when idle, ATI Tool reports 65c on my card, and after running the 3d view of ati tool the card will reach 104c).
I'd like everyone who has that info to post it here and i'll do the math and calculate the avarage working temp of that card.
Since different monitoring progs report different tempratures please state which program is reporting the temps.

Has anyone been able to encode a long HD video to H.264 without it turning off after 10 minutes or so?

I know this as been covered a millions times but I can't seem to find a straight answer. But I am trying to figure out my actual temps on my overclocked 7950 at 650/800
Using I8kfangui my temps are 59 to 82c with out any temp offset
Atitool temps are Identical 59 to 82c
Nvidia Mview is the same 59 to 82c
Now I though there was an 8 degree of set for I8kfangui, but its running the same temps as everything else is this my actual temps or there still an 8 degrees offset making my temps higher?

Well people in my country is summer, and from some days (4-5 days) my Studio 1535 has annoying for me HDD and GPU temperatures.
I will attach old picture and current picture and you can compare the temperatures.
Plus the fan stays on higher speed and it just don't want to turn itself back to normal light speed mode, I guess because high HDD and GPU temperatures.

Just got my new laptop 1/2 a week ago and installed a clean 7 on it. My idle temperatures are as follows:
Processor (T9800): ~43 degrees
ATI: ~48 degrees
HDD (500 GB 7200 RPM): ~40 degrees
Motherboard: ~44-50 degrees
This is at idle! When I game for a while, all temperatures hover at ~60 degrees. Is this normal?
My old laptop with a T5750 idles at 19 degrees for the processor, does the T9800 produce this much extra heat?
Also, if other 1640 users can post their specs and temperatures it'd be great.
