I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530c. The problem is that when I press the full stop (.) on the numeric key pad it comes up as a comma (.). Is there a setting I need to change to get it to work as it should?
View 2 RepliesSince the past couple of days I am receiving this Error 2102: Detection error in HDD2 during every cold/warm boot. It pops up even after a complete powerdown for overnight and boot up the next day. Further, the boot itself has become very slow - shows blank screen until the Thinkpad logo is displayed, followed by which the error message pops up.

The fan in my e540 does not stop once it has started spinning. This is completely independent of system temperature. Even though the temperature of the board and the cpu is below 40*C the fan won't stop.
The fan does not always spin, though. If I wake up the system from sleep or power it on, the fan does not spin and will not start spinning until a certain temperature threshold is reached. This part of fan control works correctly.
Interesting procedure: I work until the system gets hot and the fan kicks off. I want until the system is cooled down below 40*C (checked with speccy software, the air stream leaving the notebook is cold). The fan is still spinning at this point and will probably spin forever. I suspend the laptop (no complete power off required). I immediately "wake up" the laptop (system temperature did not change, no time to cool down). The fan is off again and will not start spinning until the temperature threshold is reached.
Have had my Helix for just two days and this morning I got a 'Keyboard Dock Fan error'. I have updated all software including BIOS updates, so before I return my laptop to the reseller, my question is, is there anything I can do since I assume this is a hardware fault ?

So I turn off the laptop, pull the battery out, plug the battery back in and then turn it on and it boots just fine.

I have new E531 with Windows 8 and after Windows Updates was all right.
I might have seen the numeric keypad keys work once since getting this machine, but now can't get the keys to produce numbers. Some of the keys initiate other actions not associated with numeric data entry.
I tried removing the wireless dongle for my Microsoft wireless mouse but no improvement -- I simply swapped this MS mouse from my old W510 without doing any formal install.
This doesn't appear to be a hardware problem since the keypad keys have some effect -- just not the intended effect.
Last week I got my new ThinkPad W530 as a replacement for my W500 that replaced my R60 that replaced my R51. One of the first things I noticed was the changes to the keyboard. I really like the feel of the keys, but I don't like the layout, I think the previous one was perfect :/
Anyway, I'm not here to bash. I'm giving the new layout a chance, and maybe I'll get used to it and not want to go back in some months, let's see. But before I can do that, there is something I absolutely need. I use some software that needs a numpad and the new W530 keyboard doesn't seem to have the numeric keyboard overlay that the older models had.
Is there anyway to get this or simulate it's behaviour? Anything, I don't care if it is a hidden Fn combination that will activate it, a third-party software to simulate it, a fan-made keyboard driver, or some fiddling with Windows options. But sure there MUST be some way, easy or difficult, to make they keyboard work as if it had NumLock and a numpad, right? I don't think I'm the only one needing this functionality...
I'm getting a stop error very frequently with my new sxps 16(running vista 64-bit).
I think it has something to do with the audio b/c it only happens when I'm playing an audio file in windows media player ......
last night, I got on my desktop momentaily. Closed the laptop lid(laptop is still on) and placed the keyboard on top of the laptop so I can open the Linux gFTP program, connect to my sites FTP and run a full backup before I went to bed. No problem.
Slept about 8 hours, woke up. Opened the laptop LID to check email and forums, and I'm greeted with a BSOD. Great. Laptop is extremely warm too. So I soft shut down (holding the power button down) and the computer reboots itself.

I am trying to find a solution to repair a Vista (Home?) installation on an Aspire 5920. The laptop blue screens with a Stop error code 00000F4 when booted in either Normal and Safe Mode. This problem started after installing a program although it may also have a malware/virus problem. The inbuilt Startup Repair and System Restore both fail.
I have the Acer Recovery disks but the Acer eRecovery website suggests that all personal data will be lost if they are used. Is it possible to repair the OS installation from the recovery disks instead of reinstalling it?
I own an Edge 15, 64 bit processor. It came with 2gb RAM. I recently purchased and installed two 4 gb cards for a total of 8gb RAM. I updated my BIOS. Under "Computer>Properties" it is showing only 4 gb Install RAM. Why is it not reading or the system not using the additional 4 gb of RAM on the second card?

When I press just once, the Lenovo`s logo is displayed on the screen, but after 2 seconds everything turns off. On the second trying, finally the laptop turns on and the windows is started.
In addition, rarely the laptop stucks on the lenovo`s logo screen, being necessary to hold on the power to reset it.
My laptop has a keyboard where i have to use the FN key to use the function keys at the top, instead of having to press the FN key to use the action keys. ive been looking everywhere for a way to make it so i dont have to press the FN key to use my function keys, i looked at the bios but i dont see an option to disable the action keys, nor can i find an option anywhere elce in my laptop to set it like that, id even embrace an option to go into the registry to swap the on/off signal of the FN key.

I got my 430s, and it's with a 16Gb mSATA SSD cache inside. Now everytime when I open my PC, it shows Error 2101 Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata) and I need to press ESC to continue. Is there any software or driver's problem, or it just phsically got wrong?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got the Yoga 13 and the fan will not stop... ever... and it's loud. It's not broken.. it works just fine, but the fan is constantly running. This is incredibly obnoxious in a quiet space. Is there a fix for this? Do the later hardware revisions change the fan speed (or preferably turn it off when it's not needed)?
This was purchased from Best Buy, and the model number is much lower than the ones for sale on the lenovo website, so I'm guessing it was an earlier manufacturing run. Maybe this noisiness is by design, but I hope they recognise it's a problem and try to improve it.
My W530 displays the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" message on startup. If I press Enter, I hear a beep and a message comes up indicating that a menu will be displayed, but Windows 8 starts loading shortly afterwards.
When I see the message, I can press F1 to get to the BIOS, F10 for Diagnostics or F12 for a Boot menu, but for some reason enter doesn't work.
I've tried several things, including using Recovery DVDs received from Lenovo to wipe the system (including formatting all drives), but still no luck.
When I originally received the machine, the "enter" key would bring up a menu, but I have screwed something up and even a full recovery from Lenovo DVDs didn't work. I run Windows 8 and after receiving the machine used the Create System Image feature (which I had used many times in Windows 7), but a subsequent restore didn't go well and that is when the "enter" stopped working on startup.
I bought an ExpressCard 34 USB 3 card. However when I plug a USB cable in the card springs out.
I can't see a way to stop this from happening.

I bought my ideapad month ago and had some problems. It is gt 755m sli model.
While playing any game my screen goes weird(Picture bellow) and PC doesn't respond at all. Only way is hard restart. this problem shows only while gaming ad just a few times while watching videos on Youtube.
I tried taking SLi on and off. No difference just Fps drop while sli off but it still crashes.
Also I noticed that it doesn't crash so easily without power cable plugged in so maybe it´s something wrong with my settings.
I bought this laptop mainly for gaming so this problem gets really annoying.

On may 2014 i bought a lenovo thinkpad t440p from amazon. Recently the screen make some white stripes if you press lightly on the borders or if you move the screen.
I dont know how to proceed to check it ( the computer is still on warranty from lenovo )... Also the computer showed me a warning message on harddisk SMART short self test when i run the hardware test.
I just want to know that i have recently purchased the dell inspiron 15R N5520 at that time there is no 10-key number keyboard option available in this series of laptop but recently i saw the laptop which contains the 10-key number on keypad. so is there any option so i can change my keyboard with numeric one(hardware upgrade)??

Particullary unhandy as I use some of these numbers for my password. Problem started 7/15/14. Worked as expected in the AM but now do not register this PM. The On Screen entry method works but not the keyboard! All other keyboard keys seem to work as expected. No error messages and no recent changes made to this Chromebook 14.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless mouse and printer plugged into the USB ports of my docking station and generally have no issues with them functioning. However, when I take my laptop off the docking station and then return it to the docking station, the laptop no longer recognizes the keyboard and also says that the printer is not connected. Once I restart they both work. I have also tried to unplug the wireless receiver for my keyboard from the docking station and plug into the laptop, but it still does not work without reboot.

When I use the software "BlueScreenView" to read the .dmp file, it says that it caused by address "ntoskrnl.exe + 7f1c0".
And recent two days, when I use Vmware workstation 8, the playing music suddenly stuck for few seconds and my screen was freezed. I thought the BSOD coming again, so I stop doing everything with my PC but then the music came back and screen was released. I think maybe the CPU is stucked again but not so serious to cause BSOD. But I treat it as a sign.
By the way, after I got my T430s, I have done lots of stability, stress test, including Prime 95, Furmark, MemTest Pro. But none of them gave me problem and my T430s all survives. But the BSOD just happened randomly.

I enabled Intel Turbo Boost before recent two BSOD.
I am one of the lucky ones who just got the X1 Carbon Touch (after a 2 month wait).
Touch screen is VERY spotty. Will just stop working. All the time. Even in the middle of gestures.
I found that by going to the upper right corner touch will start working again, and then it'll stop moments later in the middle of an activity.
This is Windows 8, of course. I have used plenty of other Windows 8 devices so I'm not a novice. I have never seen this behavior. Is this a driver problem? A setting I don't know about (some special Lenovo thing?). I am hoping its not hardware. The fact that touching the upper right corner enables things for awhile seems to indicate its not hardware but not certain.
