I have been having issues with audio on my G500. One moment it works and the next it doesn't. I don't quite know what can be the issue. I have tried multiple browsers to see if that is the issue and it has not made a difference. I am running Windows 8.0, 64 bit operating system if that makes a difference. This laptop is not even a year old.
View 9 RepliesI have a G500 windows 8 system, and my windows I dont know what happened but when I start it, it shows the windows logo and then a blank screen appears with the cursor, the cursor does move along the touchpad, but the windows does not show anything else on the screen. So, the windows neither starts nor (I am guessing as cursor moves) hangs.
I thought of reinstalling or repairing the windows from a windows 8 disc, but cant get into the boot menu.
I purchased a Lenovo G500 and I am wandering why do they not package a CD/DVD for the Windows 8 OS. I am thinking on downgrade it to Win7, but I am finding problems with GPT partitions.
I could erase all partitions and reformat it, but then I would loose the recovery partition and all possibility of reinstall Win8.
How could I extract this Win8 and get it into a DVD? [URL]
i recently upgraded my g500 from windows 8 to windows to 8.1. But ever since then, my mouse does not work and the keyboard only works after standby. I tried to restore to factory defaults but that hasnt worked.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo, Lenovo thinks my hard drive was failing on my G500. They send me a hard drive and 4 Lenovo recovery discs. I install everything properly and I get a Windows activation error.
I call Lenovo and they verify the O/S and the hard drive are properly installed. However, they tell me they cannot give me a license key and I must ship my laptop back to Lenovo so they can install a license key. Does this make sense?
The windows activation error code is 0xC004C003.
Now, what was interesting is when the rep took remote control of my machine, I saw it was registered under my son's email address and not mine (I entered mine when I did the login after the reinstall) and how/why it shows my son's address.
I've had this issue since new (6+ months) which has been driving me crazy. It's very intermittent, I generally shutdown every day, and it might work for 2-3 weeks fine. Other times I'll boot up, have no sound in browsers and have to reboot multiple times before it works. After booted, it either completely works or it doesn't.
So when the problem happens system sounds and other applications play fine, but no sound in Explorer, Chrome, etc. Checked all the usual things, updated drivers, reinstalled Flash, checked volume settings, etc.
Searching around many other people faced a similar issue which was fixed by a registery change, I checked this also but my registry was correct. For example: [URL] ....
Today, I turned on my laptop to discover that the audio was not working. I have tried updating the drivers, restarting the computer, and trying the default repair tool, but nothing has worked so far.

I have 12 updates showing as needing to be installed in my windows update to go onto my new lenovo G500 but every time I try and install them I get the error message 80242006. I have googled it and tried the suggestions with no luck although I have yet to spot one that is for windows 8.1 which I have upgraded this laptop to.
The missing updates are KB's 2987107 ,2968296, 2972103, 2979573, 2978041, 2979576, 2977292, 3000061, 3000869, 2989542, 2998174 and 3000988.
Could the problem be because I have upgraded the laptop to windows 8.1 from 8?
I signed into my laptop as usual and realized the sound had stopped working for me and i believe i didn't change any settings.
It is saying that the audio service isn't running and then when i right click and then click onto playback to devices it says i don't have any.
I've tried most of the adive on the internet such as device manager (says i have them and they're fine), uninstalling the driver and reinstalling and using a system restore point to before my most recent update. These have resulted in no change to the situation.
I also tried starting the windows audio service on the services and it failed and came up with error 1068.
I open this post to report a brightness problem on Lenovo Z500 Ideapad. Yesterday I've upgraded to OS Windows 8.1 and when I adjusted the screen brightness it goes off, and brightness adjust function doesn't works. I've solved my problem reinstalling the Intel video drivers, downloaded from Lenovo Driver Support.
It seems that Windows 8.1 upgrade disables video drivers.
My 15Z touchscreen works intermittently. It will be working just fine, then it starts to take a second to respond. Then it stops responding at all. Then it starts working again. I cannot identify any pattern to it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedDell Latitude E6400 ATG mouse pad works intermittently. It will work then stop and I have to use the keyboard nub. Then it will work. Then it will not work and it will drift to one corner. If I press on either side of the mousepad wrist rest area it will drift faster.
This is why I think it is a hardware issue.
I have updated with the most recent driver several times and it does not correct the problem. Driver is dated 1/13/2011
I bought this laptop G500 Lenovo 4 months ago and I am satisfy but unfortunately I found out still it have defects my problem is my cd/dvd rom I got un annoying noisy sound inside when I put a cd on it I guess it will give me problem sooner and now it happens it won't read anymore. I try to search for answers maybe it only a software issue but doesn't work any trial. Uninstall driver and bring it back don't work still there is the annoying sound and not reading. I guess a mechanical failure in its cd alignment that it is spinning but the head is keep on adjusting which creating the noisy sound means it was not align to read the CD.

It is supposed to have 8GB of ssd for caching but I cant see it either in the bios or in the disk managment. I tried to make it work with Intel Rapid Store technology, where I see only the main hard disk, and it also needs to make it RAID instead of AHCI so I thought that changinh that in the bios would solve the problem, but there is no such option, only AHCI and "compatible". I have a Lenovo G500. After use, the keyboard touchpad does not click at first. The mouse can be moved first touch, but just click on the second touch. If no default driver installed, you can click after first use keyboard.

I mean the F-function do work with fn, but when I just click F4 it should close the programe, or F7 it should go to airmode, or f9 with should close just the monitor. But these things do not happen. I had some Windows problems recently and luckily managed to sort these out but I have recently discovered that my CD/DVD drive is not recognised by various programs. I have run Lenovo solution centre and that points me towards Windows Device Manager. That says that 'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'. am not confident with this sort of thing but I really need to get this working.

This happens when I start the laptop or if it wakes from standby.
The sound is restored only after a restart. I have already tried microsoft solutions and tested all the services that start with windows start.
I have a new G500 with a 500GB drive and Windows 8.1 preinstalled. I foolishly thought it would be easy to upgrade it to 1TB, which is supposed to be supported by the hardware according to the technical documents. Using OKR I have created a backup USB disk, ensuring that the option to copy the Recovery Partition is checked. All appears fine, I get a message to say that the disk was created successfully. I have not taken the recommended option to delete the recovery partition at this point. When I then replace the internal drive, boot from the recovery USB drive and run the restore, it fails at 42% with the message "There was a problem resetting your PC." No other information is provided and the only option available is to power off the PC. I have tried all three USB ports, 2 different 1TB disks and have tried all the options available. I have also tried two different USB disks for the back up.
This machine is only 2 weeks old but it is starting to drive me round the bend. As it takes the best part of two hours to fail it is a time consuming procedure.
It seems that Lenovo's backup/restore software simply doesn't work. It may be something to do with the BIOS - this machine has a newer version than is available from Lenovo's website.
My laptop has a keyboard where i have to use the FN key to use the function keys at the top, instead of having to press the FN key to use the action keys. ive been looking everywhere for a way to make it so i dont have to press the FN key to use my function keys, i looked at the bios but i dont see an option to disable the action keys, nor can i find an option anywhere elce in my laptop to set it like that, id even embrace an option to go into the registry to swap the on/off signal of the FN key.

I have a G500 laptop. When it boots up, I would like the Num Lock to automatically be turned on. I can't see anything in the BIOS that would do that. Any other places I should be looking? Any other way to keep it turned on?

I want to upgrade the RAM of my laptop, but before I buy a second card, I wanted to make sure that the computer would be compatible with it. I opened it up to access the RAM, but when I tried to put the card that was already installed into the second slot, it wouldn't fit. It appears to be the right size, but it will not fit in the slot.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a W500 running Windows 7 which unexpectedly turns off, usually when asleep but sometimes also while on. The turn off happens as if the power is lost (say, the battery/AC cord are yanked out). After a turn off like that, I sometimes need to reconnect the battery and the AC cord. Did some reading here and elsewhere on the web and came upon the electrostatic suggestion. Was able to get it to turn back on at least a few times by touching the underside of the laptop, but that worked inconsistently.
Since it mostly happens when the unit is asleep, I pretty much ruled out the temperature and software issues.
Decided to check out the memory section pin bending solution. My laptop has to have it's palm rest taken off to access the RAM modules. People kept referring to some RAM door pins but since mine doesn't have a special RAM door, I bent some pins on the bottom of the palm rest and so far, not power loss but too early to tell.
I have just bought the G500 and I'm getting really annoyed by the keyboard. It has "great" multimedia keys as the main keys instead of usual F1-F12 keys. To access their functionality you must press Fn+appropriate key. The problem has been described here many times. But no solution works for G500.
I have tried: enter BIOS (no such option for keyboard)install Lenovo Slim USB Keyboard application (runs, but the option selected have no effect)install Lenovo Ultraslim Plus Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Driver application (do not run at all - just brings me to the desktop and do nothing). I'm not able to use the computer since I use a lot of application depending on the functional keys and if there is no solution I will have to buy another computer...
